I was born in 1962 in Coventry (scarily ancient, I know). I wrote my first picture book for my little brother when I was eight or nine. I loved making comics, too - pages and pages of picture stories, features and competitions.

I went to Art College in Liverpool, then got a job as fiction editor on the fab and legendary Jackie magazine.

I have worked as agony aunt on Shout magazine and also as an art teacher in the local primary & secondary schools, as well as as a freelance illustrator. These days, I am a full-time author.

I love my family, I love living in the middle of nowhere and I love my work. Of all my jobs, writing has to be the best - it's the perfect excuse to daydream, after all!

I finished this book yesterday, and Cathy Cassidy is my favourite author. I would recommend this book for ages 9+.
Positives;
-Skye and her family is so believable. That's what i love most about this book, the fact that it feels like i'm having a conversation with Skye, or it feels like i'm looking inside her brain. Obviously most books are like this, but Marshmallow Skye really stood out to me in the way the story was described.
-Cathy's style of writing is brilliant. Similar to making her stories believable, Cathy's style of writing is amazing. I particularly like the way she describes every single detail, like the food spread out at the buffet, she carefully describes exactly what is there using all five senses. She creates a perfect image in my head, and I think that's why she is my favourite author. I can really connect with the book and her characters.
-The plot is suitable for tweens/teens growing up. I think this book is great if you're starting to feel a bit more grown up, around the age of 11/12/13. I love how there are problems in the story that I would have with my friends. Being a teenager, I think this book gives younger girls a little taste of what it's like coming into puberty, blah blah blah
-I love the relationships between her characters. There is a boy in the story - Alfie - and he and Skye become really close. They go to a cafe and order hot chocolate, and Alfie really opens up to Skye. It's nice how the reader can see the relationship unfold between their eyes. It's also really clever but disappointing how Alfie doesn't end up with Skye, but it keeps you wondering about where that leaves Alfie and his crush.

Negatives;
-A little predictable for my liking. Although Alfie doesn't end up with Skye, you can tell Skye will somehow find out about the 'boy of her dreams' and meet him.
-The ending is too sudden. The end of this story is a cliffhanger, which, yes, ultimately makes the reader want to read onto the next book, but I think it's just too quick. In the last page is where all the magic happens, and I think Cathy could have possible spread that over more pages, possibly a chapter.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would really recommend it to a teenage girl, who enjoys reading about girly things.

4½ Out of 5
Skye Tanberry feels like she’s constantly living in her identical twin’s shadow. Skye loves Summer more than anything… But she’s tired of feeling second best, like a mirror girl. So when Skye finds a trunk full of beautiful old clothes, belonging to a long-dead relative, she sees an opportunity to be different. Only, when she tries the dresses on, she has dreams. Dreams that feel real. Dreams in which she doesn’t feel herself… Dreams in which she is Clara Travers, her dead relative, dead by suicide…. And then she finds herself falling in love with an equally long-dead gypsy boy – a boy who probably is just a figment of her imagination… But is he? After all, Clara did love a young gypsy boy…
Marshmallow Skye was a beautiful, heart-warming, chocolate-filled story about finding yourself – with a scrummy side of an impossible romance, a tragic death, finding freedom – whether from a cage or your family – and a wonderful supernatural twist. And I was lift feeling all warm and squidgy inside – much like the namesake sweeties, marshmallows. I loved this book. I’m now desperate for Cherry Crush and Book Three. Whoever’s story it may be, I know – I know – it will be fantastic. (Fingers crossed for Honey, by-the-way.) Plus… Too Cute!
Skye Tanberry was wonderful, rather mature and really sweet. I just instantly fell in love with her voice, her kindness, how devoted she was to her twin. She was addicted to history, something I loved – plus her fashion sense was awesome: history inspired! She was kind of a realist, but she was so supportive and caring. But poor Skye felt like she was living in Summer’s shadow, like she was second best and always would be. How wonderful she thought her twin was just ate away her confidence. She was sometimes jealous of Summer – I mean, she felt like the “shadow twin”, useless and dull compared to Summer. I felt so sorry for her. Because she wasn’t. She was wonderful. I loved Skye!
Her twin Summer was quiet, confident and addicted to ballet. She was also a real feminist – woman power means that boys and romance equals trouble. But she wasn’t nearly as supportive of Skye as Skye was for her. She just didn’t understand that some things were as important to Skye as ballet was to her. I think she thought that identical twins were identical in all ways, and she struggled when she realises that wasn’t true. At one point, I wanted to just yell at Summer and shake her, like: “can’t you see how much you are hurting Skye?!” But then, she just changed in my eyes. I love characters that do that – that become so strong you just can never tell where they’re going.
Skye and Summer were identical twins. The first thing they did when they were born was hold hands (how cute?). They finished one another’s sentences, felt what the other felt. But recently, everything had changed. It had always been “we”; now there was “you” and “me”. It was so interesting seeing how the twin whole twin-thing works and how their relationship developed,
The rest of the sisters were vastly different from one another – each felt like they had their own distinct personality. Fourteen-year-old Honey, who used to be the “coolest sister” ever, but since the whole Cherry-Shay and Dad-moving-to-Australia, had been “off the rails”. Even though she wasn’t always ‘likeable’, I really liked how she said what she thought. Cherry Costello, the new sister, was really sweet and really worried about fitting it. Cherry was super smart and wise and cool. I loved her! Eleven-year-old Coco was cute: all hyper and rather funny. She was really excitable, bouncy, cheerful, and full of life. Plus: animal mad – I like this kid!
Finally, Alfie Anderso: the class clown – cheerful, a joker, who played – bad – practical jokes. Gotta give it to the boy: he was darn determined. Stubborn bordering on stupidity. And he was so, so cute – and hilarious! Love him!
The whole story was just wonderfully writing. It really felt like a teen – I could feel Skye, if that makes any sense. Sometimes it did feel a little formal. But, in my opinion, that was Skye. She wasn’t your average teen. She’s special and unique and the writing was her. It was so beautiful. And I just loved the supernatural aspects to the story. The dreams of Skye’s: ghostly memories or the imaginings of an overactive imagination? Either way, so cool and really interesting. Personally? Leanin’ towards the paranormal. Call me a Mulder but… some of the things? Real spooky and way too coincidental…
I have no clue what it was, but I was addicted to Marshmallow Skye. I didn’t want to put it down. It was heart-warming, sad, hauntingly beautiful, perfect and super moreish. It didn’t have me on the edge of my seat; I wasn’t scared out of my mind. It was a sweet, 100% addictive story, with some pretty great psychological suspense woven in there, that had just left me wanting more Cathy, more Skye, Summer, Cherry… I can see why Cassidy is a “Queen of Teen”.
P.S. I loved the little pictures at the start of each chapter. So cute, and really pretty!

Far better than cherry crush, but perhaps it’s just because I’m a vintage lover myself. For real though, no clue how Skye was so chill when all these finches were appearing. I’d be having a nervous breakdown.
i prefer skye to cherry because shes like an actual person with like sorta a genuine problem? like yeah, youre being haunted and having an identity crisis. real. all of cherrys problems were self inflicted. she was just... a nasty word that i wont use to describe a child. but im thinking it. like yeah, you steal someones boyfriend and they dont like it? thats what you get. but skye? completley valid issues. unrealistic, but valid. and then finch is REAL?????? i would die. on the spot. death. instant. i would have to renounce satan. cause i would fully believe the devil was in my home. i would kill myself. from the stress of it all. she is a far stronger woman than me.
i would hit summer in this book. love her in her own book, but not here. here she is nasty.
ALSO
cannot believe she didnt end up with alfie. not sure why, because im glad they didnt end up together and there was literally no hint of romance between them, but i was just... surprised. i cannot explain it.

Is it wrong to want to hide away in the past when the present is so uncertain, the future scary? I don't think so.

I'm so miffed right now. It's 2AM and I just stayed up finishing this instead of doing something I probably *actually* needed to do. And even for all its history mystery, vintage dresses and marshmallow madness, I'm in disbelief of this being a step down from Cherry Crush.
AND now that I can barely see what I am typing, I think I shall be brief and not sugarcoat a thing:

1) SUMMARIES ALWAYS LIE. From the way it's written we're expecting Skye to be in a strop because not only is she in Summer's shadow, the summary implies that Alfie's crush on Summer makes it all the worse because Skye's the one who's in love with him, and that's our main plot. And I'm actually glad it wasn't, because I found the REAL main plot way more intriguing. But then—

2) THE BALLAD OF FINCH AND CLARA: I'm actually more sad about this because in concept it sounds irresistible. Skye, resident retro fashion aficionado, discovers the belongings, letters and authentic 1920s clothes of her great-great-aunt, Clara Travers, who allegedly drowned herself at the age of 17 because she fell in love with a Romani boy instead of the old man she was supposed to marry. Skye takes to wearing Clara's clothes and begins having intensely vivid dreams where she is supposedly seeing Clara's memories, prominently starring a handsome Romani boy that Skye dubs "Finch" and falls head over heels for. She spends the whole book thinking about him and trying to discover his identity, but of course she can't tell anyone else that she's in love with a literal dream boy. So that's love, ghosts and a real history mystery. IRRESISTIBLE. But the way Cassidy wrote Skye's dreams was just so flat. We're TOLD that Skye's fallen hard for the supposed Finch but it's all telling, telling, telling. We don't know what he's actually like other than the fact that he has DARK WAVY HAIRRRRR! And THEN it all resolved itself slap-bang, complete with a rehash of the climax of Cherry Crush where our narrating girl wanders off into danger alone. It's great that Clara didn't actually die and got to be with the man she truly loved, but what the hell was her letter to her fiance doing inside a hidden pocket (?) of her green coat? Who put it there? It never reached him!

3) BIRDY BIRDY: not gonna lie, the last page made me gasp out loud. I actually kind of liked that. Skye IS a bit psychic. Speaking of which:

4)BEING 13 IS AN EXPERIENCE: it's been a while since I was 13, and I'm fully aware I'm no longer the target age for this book. But 13 is anything but BORING, which is what I felt for the majority of this book.

TL;DR, sorry Skye, but maybe just maybe there's a reason why you're in Summer's shadow. But we'll see about that.

Another really good instalment in the series. Skye is trying to stay herself when everyone around her has decided to start ‘growing up’ by being into boys and such. But she has no interest in any of that and feels quite mature without it all. Skye also has a big interest in history and a certain mystery of the past that relates to their estate. I liked where that storyline went although it did get a bit cheesy at the very end of the book.

I also really liked her friendship with Alfie and how she gave him the benefit of doubt when no one else did. Alfie is messy and adorable. I think Alfie is going to be included more in the story especially as his storyline has something to do with Skye’s twin sister, Summer. The fact that his storyline is open ended and secondary again shows how these books do a good job of having longer running plot lines across the series while having ones that start and finish in the same book too.

Skye is also struggling with her relationship to her twin sister, Summer. They used to do everything the together, but Skye starts to grow up she realises she doesn’t like doing everything the same as her sister. She wants some independence. Skye wants to voice that but doesn’t know how. Change is hard, especially when it comes to close sisterly relationships. I know this first-hand coming from a family that had four girls growing up together! This book reminded me of those times in my childhood and I like that it represented it so well.

Tykkään tästä sarjasta, koska menee alakoululaisista yläasteelle. Vähän hämmästyin, kun teinit rohmusivat näistä hyllystä, mutta sellainen Jaq Wilson-light - kama tuntuu vetoavan.

Mystiset romanihistoriat ja mahdollinen onnettoman rakkauden vuoksi tehty itsemurha ja kummittelu upposivat hienosti.

Amazing Book, I loved it. I have been waiting for it since I read cherry crush and I wasn't disapointed.

I found this book a little creepy but I felt the tension so much I couldn't put it down!I finished it in 4 hours :O
I really think Alfie should have kissed Skye, when they were in the snow, It would have brought even more tension to the book and all of it because of Clara.

Overall I loved this book, but I prefered 'Cherry Crush'. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Cathy Cassidy.

P.S. I can't wait for the book about Honey, It should be awesome !!1<3(:

Okei, ihana!

I guess my opinion on this book still hasn't change, even though it's been 3 years since the last time I read it. The whole "echo of the past" story is really intriguing, but the characters are really... juvenile. Granted, their oldest is only 15, and our MC Skye is only 13. I, personally, never have been the kind of girl that's really feminime, so this book is kinda too much for me. All the sweet names (Honey, Coco, Cherry, Skye, Summer), all the talk about chocolate and sweets, connecting everything with marshmallow... it's just too much for me. It makes me feel like I'm over-eating sweets. Other than that, I really enjoyed it though! Alfie looks like a sweet kid.

Revisiting another fave of 10-year-old Alex. I can clearly see all the things that charmed me when I was younger.

We have a quirky yet gorgeous MC who loves vintage fashion, history, romance and marshmallows. She lives in a fabulously old building by the sea with her complicated yet loving family who buy her really thoughtful Christmas gifts. There's reference to some money worries as the parents struggle with running a B&B alongside a chocolate business (no, I'm not joking), but ultimately it's a middle class fantasy. And there's a ghost, kind of.

Fun read for nostalgia and I think the intended life lessons are handled much better than some of Cathy's other books. If I could travel back in time to when I first picked up this book, I would 100% read it again.

This book was incredible.
It's all about Skye, who is intrigued by the past and History. She loves to wear vintage clothes and tries to stay with her twin sister, Summer. But she also feels like she is in Summer's shadow as the lesser-liked twin. She finds a box of historical items from a girl called Clara, and starts to dream her memories. Within these dreams she also meets Jamie Finch (she just calls him finch) and tries her best not to fall in love, as she believes he isn't actually real. When I finished the book the ending was so good, I screamed and threw it across the room. It was that good.

the end of this when everything tied together was pretty perfect but the story up until the final few chapters didn’t have me as hooked as Cherry Crush.
I related to skye and her emotional state, always feeling second best and longing for a connection.
This one also gave me similar vibes to Addie in A Kind of Spark and her desire to create the memorial for the women of the witch trials and uncover the truth of their lives and legacy

This was a very interesting and well written book. I had a lot of fun reading it and could not stop! I liked the plot but it was a wee bit too predictable and the ending was too sudden. Everything else was great and Skye wasn't too annoying either (Its hard to find a good protagonist world!) so yeah, I had a pleasant reading experience. Cathy's books almost never disappoint me :)
