Shortly after the first suicide, another man commits suicide in an arena yelling the same thing; everything is a lie. She told them all to come together and find out the truth behind their lives. Bit by bit, the truth comes out. They were never born like normal people. They were created as part of a project called Project 99. They were built to be the perfect human beings. The eight of them come together to find out who created them and why so many of these people are dying around them. They want to know just what Project 99 is about and what a perfect human is supposed to be. What they end up finding out is going to change everything that they have ever known about their lives.

Project 99 (Perfect Human Book 1) by CS Patra is the first book in the Perfect Human series. This book is a science fiction-fantasy gene. I have not read a well put together science fiction story in awhile and this is story is well put together and will keep you engaged until the end. You will enjoy how the characters all seem to connect and relate to each other. These characters will take you on a fantasy journey that will leave you wanting more. Crystal Garrison is a young woman who just hasn't had the best of nights. She witnessed someone jumping off the bridge. Then a woman who she doesn't know, comes up to her with a message, everything is a lie. This same woman also confronted seven other young teens and told them the same thing. Shortly after this woman tells these eight teens this, another person commits suicide, yelling the same thing, everything is a lie. This woman tells these teens that they need to come together to find out the truth. What will happen when they find out the truth about themselves? Find out what happens to this group of young teens when one night changes everything for them and what they find out could change their lives forever.
These characters are unique in their own right. I don't think the story would be the same without these eight characters. They really do make the story flow until the end. These characters are well written and well rounded as they grow throughout the story. There characters take you on a journey of twists and turns that you will need to see what happens next with them. You will fully enjoy the way the author has put the POV in each of the characters version. They each have their own story and their own strength and weaknesses. Find out what happens with these eight characters as they go on their journey to find out who they are and what happens next.
This is my first story by CS Patra and I know it won't be the last. I can't wait to see what she will write next. CS dabbles in different genes and loves to cross over. She favorite is to write about female characters in different situations. She works during the day but by night, she writes and writes. She lives with her husband in North Carolina. She has wrote a story that will keep you reading until the end. I read this story in one sitting, totally losing track of time. “Project 99” the first book in an imaginative and gripping science fiction series “Perfect Human” begins when a strange woman approaches college student Crystal Garrison with a cryptic message after she witnesses a man leaping to his death from a building. Like Doug Ruskin, Pam Turner, Ren Abernathy, Jackie Vargas, Ashton Blackwell, and Misty Zeng she’s told that her life is a lie and that the truth can be found at a robotic sporting event, only to flee from the arena with other spectators after a man sets himself on fire.
The plot thickens when in the confusion that follows Crystal and the six find themselves at the apartment of Nikhil Sampath who convinces them that they’re not normal but were created as part of an experimentation project at Bradley Institute to produce a perfect human being. But there’s a flaw in the research as many of those created are dying. Banding together they decide to search for answers but the truth will change their lives forever.
Set in the future with the advancement of genetic research scientists at Bradley Institute are working to create a perfect human producing specimens from a chimera whose absorption of its twin in the utero has resulted in male and female genes. But Project 99 has had a poor success rate because of disease and suicides.
Narrated by eight people of different social backgrounds, ages, sexual persuasion and race their voices echo their uncertainty and fear after suddenly learning they’re lives are a lie and that they are related through an experimental project that’s determined to produce a perfect human being. Although what constitutes perfection is still a puzzle in this story. Intensity and suspense mount when the eight join forces and begin looking for answers only to discover that the number of survivors of Project 99 are few and that danger lies in getting too close to the truth.
Well-developed and intoxicating the plot is fast-paced and chilling as Crystal and Ren infiltrate the Institute as potential parents and overhear a troubling conversation; Jackie searches for answers to her coughing fits; Ashton discovers disturbing facts about his brother’s death; and Pam is faced with a threat to her family. Twisting and turning with multiple surprises the story keeps you enthralled until an ending that begs for a sequel.
Skilfully C.S. Patra has created vivid, complex and very realistic characters like the reserved and mistrustful Crystal Garrison; the rich, brilliant and snobby Ashton Blackwell; the scholarly and loving family man Doug Ruskin; and the shy, overachieving Misty Zeng. These main characters and others infuse emotion and high-energy into a story that borders on frightening with its authentic flavour.
I thoroughly enjoyed “Project 99” and can’t wait to read the sequel to see if the mystery will be unraveled before the menace of Bradley Institute closes in.
The story overall is entertaining, interesting and engaging. It took me a while to really get into the story. Even though things were happening it just wasn’t holding my attention. As the story unfolds it pulls you in and before you know it your hooked and wanting to know what is going to happen next. Interesting story the author has created I'm curious where the author will take the story from here.
Scientist wanting to create the perfect human is not a new concept. Parents wanting a perfect child is not a new concept either. How they go about achieving their goal and what lengths they are willing to go to is the question.
Science is constantly changing and it's scary to think of exactly what the Scientific community is able to achieve. Something like the concept of creating the "perfect" human is not to far off in the future. And it's a scary thought. What happens when your are one of those who was suppose to be perfect but just like anyone else you have your flaws. Interesting premise not only creating the perfect human but a human that can also fuse with another.
The story however does not always flow smoothly and some of the dialog seems stilted and awkward. Not sure if the awkwardness in the flow of the story is the story itself, the narration or a combination of the two.
Morven Watt does an overall good job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Some really good character voices. She does bring the characters to life through her narration. However the narration does not always flow smoothly and there are awkward pauses in the narration which affects the flow The recording quality seems tinny and hollow at times.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.
Whatever flaws we might identify or frustrations we might feel are trivial in comparison to a reader's pure joy in losing himself/herself in a narrative. When all the elements come together: an intriguing plot, thoughtful, profound themes, complex, troubling, characters, and language that make us shudder for its honesty, clarity, and confidence; we gratefully set all analysis aside and give ourselves up to the sheer magic of a great book. And for me, Project 99 is such a book.
Project 99 is a well crafted Sci-Fi fantasy tale. And, I would imagine that fans of this genre will love sinking their teeth into this one! This is my first time reading this author and I must say I was very impressed.
The story begins when Crystal Garrison was on her way home one evening and witnesses a man who jumps off a building. Immediately afterwards, a strange woman appears out of nowhere and confronts her and tells her, “Everything is a lie.” The same mysterious woman also confronts the other characters in the story and tells them the same thing. People are dying around them also. She tells them all to gather at the Arena to find out the truth about their lives. Slowly but surely the truth is revealed that they were never born like normal people. They were created as part of a scheme called Project 99. What they discover is going to change their lives forever.
The story had every element a good story should have. An exciting plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well illustrated scenes that really make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that's something I really look for in a good book.
This captivating and commendable work had me immersed from the beginning. The story flows from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional skill when it comes to storytelling. There are twists and turns in this page turner that will take the reader on a gripping journey!
It’s one of those stories that come along once in awhile that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!
I’ll certainly be looking forward to reading more from CS Patra in the future! I would definitely recommend this book! Five stars from me.
Granted there are some issues with the writing in the synopsis, but I was willing to give the author the benefit of the doubt and purchase this novel anyway, as the storyline did sound pretty interesting and intriguing and the cost of the book is very low, so I felt I could take the chance. Overall, I was pleased with this purchase and felt like I got a good story which justified the low purchase price. The premise of the story is interesting and is presented in a compelling way. This story has a lot of intriguing elements to it, and the story does keep you interested in reading to the end so you find out what happens and what it all means. There is good character development in the novel and the storyline is well thought out and structured. I recommend this novel to readers looking for an intriguing read, with plenty of action, drama and mystery to keep you enthused about reading to the end.
****4 Stars**** Perfect Human (Book 1: Project 99) by CS Patra
Perfect Human by CS Patra is a 4 star sci-fi story about a group of eight people of very different backgrounds who are mysteriously brought together at the same event one night. They find out that everything they know is a lie and that they were not born like normal people. Instead, they were created as a part of Project 99 which had the main goal of creating perfect human beings. The group of strangers were brought together by a stranger, and now with the little knowledge they have, they've decided they must work together to figure out who created them, why so many others from Project 99 died from health complications and suicides, and why they may now be in danger.
The book was written with alternating chapters from each of the 8 people in their group having chapters from their own points of view. This allows the reader to see each character's personality and point of view as they learn more about Project 99 and search for how their families and themselves fit into things. I appreciate the diversity of the characters in this book. The story was very intriguing as well as thought provoking when you consider the motivation people may have for wanting the perfect child and what lengths they are willing to go to scientifically in order to get that perfect baby. There were several grammatical issues in this book, but the story itself is worth overlooking these issues. This book ended with more unanswered questions that I look forward to learning in the next book of the series. For those readers who enjoy sci-fi and Dystopian novels I would definitely recommend this book.
There are eight main characters in the story. Each of the characters has a ‘voice’ and events are told from their point of view. The story moves forward as more and more secrets unfold through the eyes and voices of these characters that come together to discuss and explain what has happened to them so far. It all begins when a woman; a stranger to Crystal appears in front of her after she has witnessed a suicide act. The strange woman (Marie) confronts each of the eight characters in turn to tell them one thing: ‘Everything is a lie’. Shortly after this first suicide the eight are present at an event in an arena that they have been told to go to or guided into going to. Neither character has ever been to this venue before. Startlingly, another man commits suicide in front of them after yelling that ‘Everything is a lie’. As the crowd stampede and push their way out of the venue, the eight are somehow guided to the same place of refuge so that they all come together for the first time and begin to share their experience of how they came to be there. There is a common theme to events leading up to that moment. What they begin to discover is puzzling and could have devastating consequences for them. What if you were never conceived or born like normal human beings? What if you were part of a scientific project to create the ‘Perfect Human’? What if your parents had lied to you all of your life? Have you ever felt like a misfit in your own family: convinced you didn’t belong to the people you called mum and dad or the brothers and sisters you were raised with? Join the eight in their quest for answers to their questions and their desire for the truth.
The storyline and the eight characters (nine if you include Marie) are complex as well as intriguing. The way the ordinary lives of each character was detailed before and after their first meeting enabled them to become realistic so that you could empathise with their day to day lives, the curiosity and anger relating to what was happening to them as well as their confusion. C S Patra takes you on an imaginative, thoughtful journey that has you asking questions not only for the characters but also for life as we know it. Could someone, somewhere be doing this? Has it already happened? The writing is fluent and fast paced. I like having events ‘voiced’ by different characters so that you can get an almost 3D view of things, it allows me to ‘see the bigger picture’. I am already looking forward to the next part of the journey. I’m sure it won’t disappoint.
Project 99 (Perfect Human Book 1) By: C.S. Patra 5 out of 5 stars
The story Project 99 (Perfect Human Book 1) by C.S. Patra is a science fiction/fantasy book. How would you react if after witnessing a suicide a woman shows up and tells you your entire life is a lie? That is the situation that Crystal Garrison finds herself in. Then Crystal along with seven others witness a second suicide and end up in an apartment building together. This strange meeting begins an investigation that leads to some answers coming out however it also brings more questions. Will this band of eight find all the answers that they are searching for?
This book had me from the first chapter. It is told from the POV of all eight characters that find they all have something in common, Project 99. They find out that it is a project to create a perfect human being. I like that you are given an introduction to each character in a separate chapter. They all have felt, at one time or another, that they are different and these feelings have never gone away. The atmosphere in this book is heavy with mystery. As their investigation intensifies the danger to each and every one of them plus their families starts to become apparent. All of them want to find out the whole truth, although some of them also want to make sure that those behind their situation are brought down. The book is very suspenseful and I found myself holding my breath through several scenes. The characters are well written. As the book progresses, I found myself relating to them and asking “what I would do in their situation?”
If you are looking for a book that will have you on the edge of your seat and quickly turning pages to find out what happens next, this is the book for you. This is the first book I have read by the author and I find her writing style smooth and full of detail. Two things that to me, makes a book enjoyable. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and also her other books as well.
Project 99 is the first book in the Perfect Human series. This is the story of eight random strangers who come together because of an identical message given to each of them: “Everything is a lie”. These eight people come from different nationalities, backgrounds, socio-economic standings, ages and sexual preference. They do not come from a cookie cutter mold, so what could they have in common? I think this is a good start to a series which explores an intriguing concept. My hope is that this does not turn into one of those series that we have to wait years to get to the end of (remember that TV show that we all got hooked on and at the end we find out it was all a dream when the dude woke up on the island and the dog was licking his face??). I am anxious to find out the truth behind it all. There is nothing in this story that is too far-fetched. This could actually be playing out in our world today. Three things I liked about this book: 1. Great concept. The fact that science could further genetic engineering to the point of perfection. 2. The characters are introduced in a quick way so we understand their background and a bit of who they are. It’s not hard to keep the characters straight as I was reading along. 3. The pace of the book moved along quickly. There wasn’t too much murkiness to swim through to get to the point.
I look forward to the next installment of this series.
Project 99 (Perfect Human book 1) by C S Patra is the first in the Perfect Human series and is a Sci-Fi thriller exploring the world of genetics. It starts with Crystal Garrison, on her way home from college witnessing a suicide as a man jumps from a roof. A mysterious woman approaches Crystal and tells her that ‘Everything is a Lie’ and that she must find the others before it’s too late. This confuses Crystal as she has no idea what is meant by this. This same woman approaches 7 other characters individually and tells each of them that ‘Everything is a lie’. The 8 main characters (Crystal, Ash, Jackie, Misty, Nikhil, Ren, Doug and Pam) each individually receive a message from the mysterious woman (Marie) telling them to go to an event at a nearby arena. At the arena a man commits suicide by immolation whilst shouting ‘Everything is a lie’. In the confusion that follows they find themselves all guided to Nikhil’s apartment where (instead of going to the arena) he had waited for them all to come to him. Here Nikhil tells them all a terrible secret; they are not what they seem. Each of them (himself included) is the result of an experimental genetic project to create the ‘Perfect Human’. They are all different ages, race, social background etc; the only thing they have in common is Project 99. All they know about Project 99 is that it is based at the Bradley Institute, an institute to help couples that are having problems conceiving a child. From Nikhil, the others learn that there were more of them but many have died through health problems (mainly respiratory) or suicide. Between them they take the decision to work together to find out what Project 99 is, what its purpose is, why so many of them have died young and why their lives may now be in danger. The book is written from the points of view of each of the main characters but is not difficult to follow with the diversity of the characters making for interesting reading. You do find yourself having favourite characters but each of them is interesting in their own right. The story is both thought provoking and scary. Thought provoking as you ask yourself to what lengths will people go to have the ‘perfect child’? How much do the couples who go to the Bradley Institute really know about what goes on there? To what lengths will geneticists and the medical profession go to produce the ‘perfect human’? Scary as, in today’s modern world of genetics, the day when scientists can produce genetically perfect children may not be too far away! I rate this book 4 star and I look forward to reading The Chimera; Perfect Human book 2 by C S Patra
Crystal Garrison has had a long day and just wants to get home. Only a few more stops and she will be there. Walking home Crystal hears a noise, turning she see’s someone who has jumped off the building. Ashton is confronted by a stranger, a woman who tells him to attend a meeting, come together and told him everything is a lie. Jackie Vargas turned up for work but is sick and not getting better. Confronted by a stranger, a woman who tells her to attend a meeting, come together and told her everything is a lie. Misty Zeng has just finished with practice when she is given a letter that tells her to attend a meeting, come together and tells her everything is a lie. Doug Ruskin, Pam Turner, Ren Abernathy and Nikhil Sampath are also confronted by a stranger, a woman who tells them to attend a meeting, come together and told everything is a lie. All attend the arena where another man commits suicide after yelling everything is a lie. After coming together they learn bit by bit the truth behind their lives, they were not born like normal people, each one was created to be the perfect human. Each one was created by scientists as part of a project called Project 99. Many of those created under the same project have died but why? Coming together they are determined to find out who created them and why people are dying. What they find stuns them and changes everything, everything they have ever known. What happens when they get to close? What happens when they don’t cooperate? Can they ever get back to a normal life? Can they risk it all to come together? The story is told by each of the eight individuals giving it a unique touch with lots of twists and turns. This book is a Sci-Fi fantasy and people who like Sci-Fi will enjoy it.
Project 99 is the first book in C. S. Patra’s Perfect Human series. It was my first encounter with this writer. It is a cool science fiction piece that is taking its story line from the well-known concept of human desire for a perfect child. Of course, as it is about how we go after it then Project 99 is one version of it! It took me a while to get into the story, there were different things happening from the beginning but for some reason it was not holding my attention. The story itself is well written, it was simply that I had hard time to relate to it. Maybe it was the concept, I am not sure …. Maybe it was the sometimes awkward dialogue, maybe it was something about the flow of the story … When looking at the story objectively, I can say that if you are science fan and like science fiction fantasy then you might find this story intriguing and when you are done with the book then you might be wondering what comes next, how will the ‘eight’ go about fighting back! It is also interesting how you get the story through so many voices, the writer did a good job with merging all these different characters. It is a solid start for a series dealing with such an intriguing concept. I mean, considering how much progress is done in science every day, maybe … just maybe … all this is already happening? Ever thought that?
Perfect Human: Project 99 by CS Patra is a scifi story of eight individuals from completely different backgrounds, who all receive the same message. I won't go into to much detail, as have the fun in the book is experiencing it for yourself, and I don't want to give anything away.
When I first read the summary for this book, I thought it seemed interesting. And after I started it, I thought it was a great start to a series. The concept for the story line was interesting, and seemed like something that could actually happen now or in the very near future. The characters were brilliant and very clear, as the book alternated between the POV of each of the main characters, which was an intriguing idea that could have backfired, but actually worked really well. They were easy to keep track of who was who, which can be hard since there are so many characters. The author wrote it in such a way that everything was clear and easy to understand. No one was left out or overlooked, which can happen in books with only a few characters. It's happened in a lot of books I've read over the years, so I was a little hesitate about reading this. But it was handled nicely.
Overall, I would give this 5 out of 5 stars. It was interesting and well written and I honestly can't wait for the next book in the series. I'm excited to see where it goes from here!
Perfect Human Book One: Project 99 CS Patra **4 Stars**
Project 99 by CS Patra is a well written science fiction story. Project 99 is the first book in the Perfect Human series. This book is from many different point of views. CS Patra created a very original storyline. Each person comes from many ages and backgrounds. The different perspectives really enhances your reading experience!
We follow 8 people in this book; Crystal Garrison, Ashton Blackwell, Jackie Vargas, Misty Zeng, Nikhil Sampath, Pam Turner and Doug Ruskin. Each are looking for the truth about their lives. None of them to seems to fit in with the others around them. As they learn about where they come from the one thing each of them is told: “Everything is a lie.” They were told to come to the tunnel and they would finally be with others like themselves. What questions will be answered at the tunnel? Who is behind all the secrets? What makes them so different?
I enjoyed reading this interesting book. It might be a little cryptic in the beginning but it truly pays off to keep reading! I can't wait to read the other books in this series! CS Patra is definitely worth the follow!
What would you do if you were minding your own business and in front of you someone committed suicide, or better yet while watching this horror someone run up to you and saying “Everything is a lie” and leaving the area? What if you found out it happened to eight other people? This is exactly happens to eight people in the book Perfect Human. It is not hard to imagine that this was going on in parts of the world today. CS Patra has brought unreal ideas of “perfect human” to the next level. Crystal Garrison was having a day and then the unthinkable happened if front of her, someone commits suicide. But even more unsettling someone comes up to her and tells her everything is a lie. What would you do in Crystal’s place? I know I would be trying to figure out what the heck is going on. This story is actually told by eight characters POV. It takes a special writer like CS Patra to be able to write this as eloquent as possible. She keeps your interest from the first word to the last work. She also makes you want more. I love when you get a writer who is on top of plot to just throw in a wrench in what you thought was going to happen and the exact opposite. Science Fiction is not one of my most favorite genres but I think CS Patra just made me a fan of the Science Fiction genre.
Project 99 is the first book in the Perfect Human Series by CS Patra. It is a Science Fiction story that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It was a little scary, creepy and entirely suspenseful. There was something a little dystopian about the whole story and it certainly captured my attention and made me think. The story is told from eight differing point of views, as all the characters give us an insight to ‘their story’. I think the author has produced a well written, interesting and unique storyline. If you are in anyway a fan of Sci-Fi/fantasy or even dystopian stories, you’ll be sure to enjoy this read. Crystal Garrison is about to have her life turned upside down- on her way home from college she sees a man plummet to his death after jumping from a roof. Then a strange and slightly mysterious woman appears and adamantly tells her ‘Everything is a Lie’ and to find the ‘others’ before it’s too late. Crystal is quite baffled, as she has no idea what the woman is referring to or what those words could mean. The same strange woman then approaches 7 other people, telling each of them the same thing; ‘Everything is a lie’. Then these eight people- Crystal Garrison, Doug Ruskin, Pam Turner, Ren Abernathy, Nikhil Sampath, Jackie Vargas, Ashton Blackwell and Misty Zeng- all get a message from the strange lady to tell them they must go to an arena in the area. When they get there, they all witness another suicide, and the man screaming ‘Everything is a lie’ before he dies. They must all come together to discover the truth. What they find out about themselves is really hard to wrap their minds around. They discover that they are created- their lives are a result of an experimental project called Project 99. The project was developed by an institute in an effort to create the perfect human. Now, they must work together to figure everything out, piecing it all together. And, why are so many of the others from Project 99 dying from serious health complications, or suicides? Does this mean that they may all be in danger now too? I’d love to tell you more, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. Grab a copy of this book and find out for yourself- what is the “Perfect Human”? The story was very original and the concept was really intriguing. I was so curious about the book after reading the blurb. I couldn’t wait to start reading it. I found that it did take a little while for me to get a feel for the story, and then wrap my mind around the fact that we get eight different characters points of view. But, it did all come together in the end.
Project 99 by CS Patra is the first book in the Perfect Human series. This is without a doubt a five star book for me.
I don't usually read the sci-fi genre but I am exceedingly glad that I decided to take a chance on this book and author. Wow! I just wish that word covered it for this book but it doesn't. With this book you have the sci-fi element with murder, mystery, tragedy and romance. Everything you could possibly want in a book.
Wow! This is definitely a five star read for me. What a wild ride. It had me gripped from the very first page and I did not want to put it down and even took it with me to read whilst doing housework just so I could finish it. This book can be enjoyed time and time again. It is amazingly intense and the author prepares you for the journey for you to take alongside the characters really well.
The characters and story development were perfectly done. This book was extremley well written and has fast become of my favourite books. I will definitely want to one click future releases from this author. This book was full of different emotions with many twists and turns in the book that will keep you guessing what is going to happen till the very end.
I think that this author has done an absolute amazing job. This is definitely a new author to watch out for as they take their journey into the world of being an author. The characters were extremely well done and relatable.
Highly recommended to all friends and family. Definitely an author to watch out for. Job well done
Project 99 by CS Patra is the first book in the Perfect Human Series. This sci-fi/ fantasy genre had an interesting plot and the changing POV between the main characters was different than any other book I've read. The author set quite the stage with a diverse set of characters and the hint of mystery and suspense kept me reading from the first page to the last.
So what do Crystal, Doug, Jackie, Misty, Pam, Ashton, Ren and Nikhil have in common? They have never met when a mysterious stranger brings them together and gives the message that “everything is a lie”. As people around them start committing suicide the eight start looking into the circumstances of their births. They find that despite their age differences they were made in a lab as part of project 99 and their parent had in vitro and were promised perfect humans.
There are many twists and turns as they race to find out what Project 99 is and who made them and why so many are now committing suicide to get away from the truth. As the POV changes with each chapter and each character finds a different piece of the puzzle the story really comes together in a well written story. This book left me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next part of the story in part two. I hope we don't have to wait too long. This is the first book I have read by CS Patra and I really like her writing style.
Book Review: Project 99 ( Perfect Human book 1) Author: CS Patra FOUR STARS The changing of chapter in this book is the meeting of new characters. Eight of them to be exact. In the changing of the chapters we are thrown a lot of information on the different characters and who they are and how they all get the invitation to the meeting. The thing the eight different characters can't figure out is why were they invited to this meeting and how did this woman know their names? This book is different than anything I have read before. It has me quite intrigued. The mystery behing Project 99 is why were they developed and what is going to happen to them the older that they get. There is no rhyme or reason to the characters as some are still young and there are others who are already parents themselves. The group is trying to find out the answers to their questions and the main question now is can they find the answers they seek before it is too late for them? People all around them seem to be killing themselves off, or is that programed into their "perfect human" plan and once they get too close to the answers will they as well " self destruct"? Not somthing that I would have normally read but it was well worth the read. CS Patra will pull you in and make you want to continue reading just to find the answers as well. KELLI HARPER
Project 99 is the first book in the Perfect Human series and sets the scene really well.
Life as she knew it changed for Crystal Garrison in one night. Witnessing a man jump off a building in front of her, she is then confronted by a mysterious stranger who tells her “everything is a lie”. She tells her to come to a sporting arena later that night to learn the truth. Intrigued, Crystal does what she says. At the arena another man commits suicide in front of the crowd repeating the same thing: “everything is a lie”. Rocked by this, Crystal is then rushed away to safety by a stranger Nikhil Sampath, where she meets Doug Ruskin, Pam Turner, Ren Abernathy, Jackie Vargas, Ashton Blackwell, and Misty Zeng. They have all been contacted by someone with the same message. What unravels is the truth that they were born differently to other people, created for a project – Project 99 to make the Perfect Human. This novel tells us their adventure as they race to discover who created them, and for what purpose. What they find out changes everything they believed about their lives. As there are a lot of characters to introduce I found it hard to work out who was the lead character in the novel for the first 40 % of the book. However, I did like the fact that the author introduced each one’s life individually so we could understand where they came from in order to sympathise with their difficulties in the journey to find out why they were created. This novel was a fascinating take on “designer babies” which is a bit of a hot topic at the moment and becoming a reality in the society we live in. The conclusion to the novel leaves us wanting to read the second part and find out what happens next. An enjoyable distraction but more open ended than I would have liked.
