Senior skip day. Things that can go wrong: An explosion renders your hometown into a war zone. Your twelve-year old brother vanishes. The place your brother vanished in is full of dragons. The guy that helps you find your brother is hot. But he has wings. And scales. Yeah, he’s a dragon. And, oh yeah, those dragons think you’re their salvation.
And by the way, you’re invited to a ball, in your honor.
Did not finish. Made it over half way. Girl is seriously too dumb to live, boy they are setting up to be love interest is soooo boring, bad guy had some moments of interestingness (doesn't matter if that isnt a word. We have to add some excitement somewhere.) bro is written in as big character in life and promptly ignored. I just couldnt go on. Soooo much intro in beginning that has zippo to do with anything. I'm sure in a book 2 or 3 something from all that may become relevant, but we will never know because our will to go on will starve in this excitement barren wasteland of words on a page. Just cut out a bunch of filler, re-write a girl with some brains, and start again. The world building was decent to good. Just needs some better plot, action, characters.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, that so enjoys a wonderful story about Dragons, witches, and many other characters which are not "human!" BUY THIS BOOK NOW! . 😍☺
There is so much jumbled in this book I don't know where to begin. Lily finds out about alternate worlds, dragons, prophecies, witches, right and wrongful rulers, races of dark elves and more. There's contracts and castles that make you forget things, a step mom who may or may not be dead or a witch, dragons who may or may not be friends/enemies and worlds that may or may not exist due to unraveling spells. And that's just the rip off the iceberg. She has best friends that she immediately forgets about, goes from crafty to TSTL in a heartbeat and is way to gullible for her own good. And all of this happened in the span of a couple weeks? POV provided no insight, either. In fact, even with POV you aren't always sure who is 'speaking' because of the way it's written. I'm very lost and really not sure that I want to tackle the 2nd book. The few chapters tucked at the end of this one, of it, are just as scrambled as the 1st.
The premise of the book is good. It has a lot of potential. The author just needs to take a few deep breaths and space these events out a bit more. Give some time for development, both of the characters and the story line. Oh, and an editor, the book needs an editor badly.
Lily is a teenage girl who hears and feels a large boom on senior skip day while she and friends had gone to the beach. She is first to realize they need to quietly get away and home before everyone else panics and they are stuck on the island, luckily her friends follow her lead till they get to the car and drive home. Before they ever get their they realize their world and lives have changed forever. At home she jumps from the car running to her house hoping to find her little brother and stepmother.. what she finds and doesn't find leads her on quite an adventure. Other dimensions, dragon shifters, discovering she isn't human herself and learning to train to use her powers (that in the beginning she didn't even want to believe she had), two very different dragon shifter she is drawn to each a little but they are completely different and show her different views they say is the same place but both can't be real, right? Finally she gets her brother and runs right to even worse problems though luckily one of the dragon shifters is there to keep them from freezing and finely start explaining what has happened and why she is the answer to everything to save or destroy the worlds. CLIFFHANGER
What starts out with a day playing hooky from senior school, to go to the beach, turns into a nightmare. The only problem was who could she trust... The silver haired reptilian skinned guy, Cade, she rescues, and seems to wants to protect her or the other dark menacing stranger, Declan. What is she? If she's not human then what? You will have to read the book, to find the answers. A gòd start to a new series.
this book had potential 8n that it had a good plot but that was about it.. no one could answer a single straight question at all... the banter was plain stupid... and I don't say that often at all. it was like: hey tell me this.. no I wont.. but I want u to.. no I wont.. THE. ENTIRE. BOOK! and there's a cliff hanger. I barley could force myself to finish this book much less be able to read another one and agonize my way through confusing and pointless conversations.
This story has interesting deviations from the norm. It also has some standard conventions of dragon love stories. The cliffhanger leaves me in anticipation of the next book.
Fight scenes were poorly co-ordinated, which is the most difficult to read. Characters do not make sense and are hard to follow. I had hoped that the authors interpretation of an 18 year old is slightly more mature that.
I got this as part of a set, so I wanted to give it a go. It was a great concept, the characters intrigued me and it flowed well. I would be happy to continue reading the series.
Lily, and her brother Ricky, were living with their step mother. Who could have been the truly wicked WITCH! Need to read the next part to find out what happens.
Storyline was decent but why introduce so many characters in the beginning that seem to be important and then all of a sudden not another mention of them for the remainder of the book, it just felt unnecessary. Still haven't gotten a feel for who the protagonist and who the antagonists are in this story
This started off really well. We're presented with a very mature heroine who has to take care of her brother and an alcoholic stepmother. But then it quickly changes, Lily hears an explosion on the beach and her and her friends drive back to Houston. Upon returning to her house, she quickly searches for her brother Ricky, and leaves her friends Brad and Alecia. There are so many holes and time jumps to the story that could've been filled in with a bit more information. When Lily meets Cade, for some reason she becomes very immature and impulsive. First, she quickly gets angry at Cade for no reason whatsoever. Second, it seems that whenever Cade warns her that he's dangerous and so are the other dragons, it seems to go in one ear through the other. She doesn't listen and makes very dumb decisions. For example: after she got her brother back, she goes back to the place her brother was captured. Wha???? She doesn't think things through and halfway through the book I just stopped reading. This seemed like an awesome book to read and was excited for it, but it's not for me.
A really neat plot but excruciating to plow through
I totally enjoyed the concept of this story. A cool new idea for sure. The problem was in the writing. Kind of sad that someone will go to all the effort of putting down their nifty ideas in print but won't check their grammar or even the meanings of the words they use. I finished, literally forcing myself to open my kindle, but won't do it again. Please, please get some help (like an editor). You have the creativity, dont let the light get lost in the execution.
A lot of dialogue with no motivation or explanation
The beginning was promising. The first chapter. Then there were a few scenes that were well done but overall the plot had enormous missing motives, illogical dialogue (if the male protagonist does not understand slang, why does he use an untaught piece of slang later after the author has established the whole slang miscommunication?) and above all else, why the big secret?? I kept reading though, which was good, but possibly more of an indication of my stubbornness and a testimony to my ability to speed read than anything else. However, I'm going to give preliminary kudos to the shadowy promise of snarky dialogue potential. IMHO the author needs a wingman editor to point out the points in the story where "but why?", and "who cares?" and "huh?" overpower the reader. But hey, the author wrote a book and I haven't so what do I know...
The story line moves quickly and it was a great read that I couldn't put down. There wasn't too much that was revealed in this one and so I really look forward to reading more of the series and putting them all together. I felt like it left me hanging a little too much as a read on its own so that's why I'm only giving it four stars but I think as the series goes on it will definitely be a five star read. Lily has potential to be a great heroine, she's feisty and quick tempered - definitely in an 18 year old way which is refreshing to see a character act her age ;). Ill definitely be on the look out for the next book!
This book was entertaining with the world it spun. But the author gave us no hint of who to trust. Both leading males are seemingly good, and Lily just seems to arbitrarily choose one over the other to trust. It was very hard to understand her motivations as they constantly seemed to be shifting. In the end I had no idea what the purpose of this book was. I was highly disappointed with a book that had such good potential and yet failed to follow through. In the end I was filled with too many questions.
