Carl Weber brings the best of Urban street lit authors together, each telling their own dramatic tale of life in the streets in cities across the USA. The third installment continues with veteran Urban Books author Brittani Williams.
Dontay had it rough growing up in the projects with a mother who forced him to become a man at the young age of fifteen. His father was a rolling stone, having multiple children with many women. He always fought for his father’s attention, until taking his spot became more important than gaining his love. Now Dontay is the leader of one of the most successful and most feared drug organizations in the city of Philadelphia. From the outside looking in, he appears to have it all—tons of money, respect, and women falling at his feet—but it all comes with a hefty price.
He meets Desire, a biracial beauty, and instantly vows to make her his queen. Unfortunately, trouble is lurking, and Desire may not be the woman she claims to be. A war ensues with a rival drug gang, and Dontay reigns supreme, but he begins to lose the tight grip that he has on his organization as he struggles to find the person responsible for leaking details of his activities to the feds.
With jealousy, envy, and revenge as motives, one of his most trusted understudies moves forward with a plan of takeover that quickly leaves Dontay without the things that he’s worked his whole life to attain. In this fast-paced tale of deceit, nothing is what it seems, and Dontay learns that even his own family can’t be trusted.
Filled with drama, lies, sex, and police corruption, Carl Weber’s Kingpins: Philadelphia makes it clear that even for a kingpin, more money means more problems.
I found this book th ok but you really had to pay attention or you'd get confused on some parts. The switching of characters had me going back and forth trying to keep everything straight. One other thing there was really no closure on all the relationships Dontay was involved in especially the one with his wife Tracy. The storyteller is more about Alisha rather than Desire. Overall had potential to be a great read but it never really got there for me 3**
this storyline was all over the place. the synopsis lead me to believe this book was about Dontay and Desire , but Alisha was the main character. it was like someone took 2 storylines and tried to make them one book.
SPOILER.. So my previous question was answered, Desire didn't know Dontay was connected to the man who killed her brother, and I can only assume she aborted her baby. I was really shocked that she also became a police officer, and was 'in love' with Lamar who was Dontays half brother. Kinda of felt bad for Alisha, she was felt a shitty hand from the beginning. But I was happy to see that her and Desire got their revenge on Dontay. This was my favorite book out of the 3 Kingpin books.
I really enjoyed this book it was a page turner. I love how it was fast pace and didn't skip a beat to me. Great job Brittani Williams you made a fan for life.
Violent crimes of power or revenge reap like rewards. A young boy, who with his mother was abandoned by his birth father, works his way up to the head of a drug syndicate. He seeks revenge as do others who have been victimized by his actions.
Plot driven, the character development is secondary. Good for action readers who are OK with gritty language, violence, and sex. Lots of action and suspense. Large cast of characters. In spite of the title, there isn’t much Philadelphia texture. Story could have happened in any urban environment.

I copped the Miami; Chicago; Los Angeles; & Jamaica "Kingpins" books from the NEVER-ENDING SERIES. I perused this from a library copy & found that it was what I'd thought: The books may be promoted as 'Stand Alones' in the CARL WEBER'S KINGPINS" Series, but TO ME, IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME OR SIMLIAR STORIES WITH ONLY THE LOCATIONS HAVING CHANGED! Therefore, I refused to entertain reading any other books in the KINGPINS Series given that the females in the series, NO MATTER THE 'STAND ALONE' Collection, SEEM TO BE WRITTEN TO BE SSOOOOOOOOOOOOO STUPID THAT I WAS GETTING MORE & MORE PISSED OFF AT THE WRITING OF THE CHARACTERS WITHIN EACH BOOK THE FEMALES PERSONIFIED STUPIDITY! ALL DONE WITH BOTH THE REVIEW & THE READING FROM THESE SERIES!
This book was so good because in the end Desire got her payback for what Dontay did by string. How long all of years. Dontay got exactly what he deserved after he passing his stuff around like it was mike and Ike. Alicia learned the hard way to keep her stuff to herself, but ended up with stuff that she could never get rid of.
I felt like the author tried to have way to many different storylines and she didn’t complete them well. At lot of the book left me confused and wanting more information. Other than that it was a solid read.
The book was ok...but it seemed a bit Run On..No Lines of Separation sometimes with The Characters... All of the books in this series seem to be Standalones...on to the next..
It was extremely amazing! I'm glad the girls colided in the end to serve justice. I guess 4 different characters can make the book interesting afterall. Wonderful job Mrs. Williams! I recommend this book to girls and boys who are to free and don't care about the world out there, take some warning and be a good person to life. Remember the law of KARMA.
Did not like this one. The back and forth of the characters made it difficult to keep them straight. Would have like to have more character development as well as the story line. Huge disappointment.
The book description is a little misleading. You think it's a book about Dontay and Desire. No. There are also Tracy and Alisha's point of views. The middle towards the end, Alisha actually dominates. That's fine. Multiple pov's isn't a problem to me. But again. Misleading. There was a lot going on. Which, can make for excitement. Not in this case. Things were just kind of thrown at you. I'll still read the other installments.
The last of the three Carl Weber's Kingpins!! Yikes, a two star for this one. Why? I had difficulty following the story line. Reading the back description was a catalyst to get me revved up for what was inside, but instead, I barely got out of the starting point. Yes, I did finish. The story is there, but not as clear as the other two. Maybe my expectations were to high! :( Maybe it's just me and I had a bad couple of days. Try it, you may like it!
It was good but nothing like I expected. It was more of a soap opera then the story of a kingpin. It went back and forth between characters and there issues. Other than a few incidents it truly didn't seem like a kingpin story. It repeated some of the same things over and over, making things predictable. It was interesting but doesn't seem like it belongs in a kingpin series.
I was being nice with the 3 stars simply because parts of the story were very intriguing and there were no errors but the storyline itself was all over the place! Tracy just completely dropped out of the book. Alisha appeared from thin air and Dontay was just nerve wrecking. He did make the story interesting though
I had problems following the storyline. I thought this was about Desire & Dontay, then it jumps to Alisha. I was more than halfway through the book before the connection between their stories hit me.
