Despite his wealth, Alex Thompson has been living in fear since his wife died in childbirth. A frivolous wrongful death lawsuit, harassing phone calls, and anonymous threats drive him and his five-year-old twins away from their home in Houston and into the crosshairs of a sniper.
Molly McDill is a struggling single mom who lives next door to Alex and his twins. When she helps them adjust to their new life in the country, she exposes herself and her son to the same threat that followed Alex.
An attempt on his life throws their lives into chaos, inviting more threats, public scrutiny, and Molly's ex-husband back into her life. The tension tests the attraction they feel toward each other as they struggle to keep life normal for their kids.
Alex still doesn't know who wants him dead but suspects his former in-laws. As the threats become a visceral danger, Alex and Molly race to uncover the secret that died with his wife before it costs them everything.
I’ve been writing novels for fun and practice since 2012. After completing eight novels and a few dozen short stories, I published my novel Letting Go. When I’m not writing, I’m the CTO for a technology consultancy and a professional singer.
Decent idea for a plot, but with poor, choppy character development.
The storyline was engaging. The characters could have been too. However, the character development seems to jump ahead where it shouldn't with regards to certain key relationships. This engineered unnatural, premature familiarity that just didn't feel right between some of the characters. Also, many of the romantic scenes felt contrived and juvenile.
This is an interesting and compelling story. When you think it must be getting close to a conclusion something else happens that draws you in again. Well written.
I received an ARC - this did not affect the outcome of my review.
It's almost downright frightening when you feel like someone has been able to take a peek at portions of your life and recreate them into a story that grips you from your darkest corners! I immediately put myself in Alex's shoes. I felt the fear, anxiety, and stress that he felt. He has to think about himself, but more importantly, his daughters. He moves out into a rural area and just as things finally turn a corner to normal, he realizes that Molly and her son are now twisted up in the situation. Tears flowed a few times and I enjoyed the relationship that Alex builds with Molly. There's enough romance to keep the flames burning but I was happy that it didn't engulf the main suspense factor of the story. The first few chapters were a bit hard for me to keep reading but once I was able to place everyone, understand their role, and get a grip on the scenery, I couldn't stop flipping through the pages. It's rare that I want to skip to the end - I didn't and please don't as you'll ruin it - but keep reading! You'll find that your pulse quickens and your heart melts page after page!
WOW - this is the first book that I have read by Anthony Awtrey and OMG OMG OMG -- it was amazing!!!
I loved the way that he takes the time with describing things, thus making the reader feel like they are there and a part of the story. I loved the way that he developed the characters - making the reader feel like they could be best friends with them. All in all, it was an amazing story and was a pleasure to read!!! I don't write spoilers - so I will not give the story away --- but, I can definitely say that once you start reading this book and get past the first 3-4 chapters of story setup, etc, you will find it hard to put the book down. You will get so tied up in the story - trying to figure out the outcome and being caught off guard by the surprises and are thrown in. AND - have a few tissues ready for the ending, because you just might need them!!!
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
This book grasped my attention from page 1 and I didn't want to put it down. The book starts with a shocking and unbelievable scene.
Molly and Alex met and their attraction for each other was immediate. As their friendship grew so did their attraction for each other. When you meet “the one” you just know.
The past has a habit of coming back to haunt you just when you least expect it and that is exactly what happened with them. Molly's ex husband comes back into town, and Alex's life is threatened even more.
I loved reading the love story with these two though and about their adorable children.
I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this book are 100% my own.
Alex lost his wife in childbirth, He been through a wringer of threats and harassing phone calls. He decides to leave the city lives and move to a small town with his daughters. There he gets help from his next door neighbor Molly, who is a single mother of a son. While he adjust to living in the country with her help their past catch up to both. Alex feels guilty about it when Molly gets dragged in his problems. But then there is Molly's ex-husband.
The characters in this book are great I could totally relate to them, I love the authors way of writing and the story line, there is some romance in it too. Even Though the kids sound almost to perfect it was a very enjoyable book. I had a hard time putting it down.
Very thorough and impelling story. In every aspect not one detail was spared on mystery, suspense, romance, and action. There was so much to read,I was full of the characters in a good way. The characters were relatable, yet very distant in an emotional way. For a man to be a single father to twins after being an investment banker is a dramatic lifestyle change. Then to transition from city life to country life is even more of a worldwind mindf**k! Blended families are all the rage nowadays, but a family that has been through such unconventional and traumatic circumstances has to either thrive and solidify or break and burnout. This story has everything and if I get time would like to read Jenna and Larry's story too!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was an interesting book with lots of suspense and intrigue that you want to keep reading to find out what happened. This is the first book I read by Anthony Awtrey—I liked the synopsis of the book. The characters of Alex Thompson and Molly McDill were interesting, but there were not a lot of sexual escapades in the storyline. While we see how the characters are enthralled with each other, I was looking for more sexual content. The book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the end.
I loved this Romantic Thriller! It was exactly what I needed to escape everyday life! Thank you for writing a book full of family suspense and romance. If you enjoy a book without smut and sexual assaults, this is the book for you! I'm hooked and looking forward to your next book!
The author wove this story so well! We meet Alex and his children and see the plot forming and of course this is a romance story so along comes Molly! Well written with love, mystery and intrigue thrown in for good measure. A captivating read!
Letting Go by A L Awtrey. 3 and half stars. A second chance at happy ever after story. The romance part of the story was very insta lust/love for Alex and Molly. I question the fact that the villain was never on any one's radar. What kind of personal protection security firm would not look at all family and friends and do a back ground check on all. A solid read.

Wow! I totally enjoy the ride that this book brought me to. The characters are nicely developed and I enjoy how both Molly and Alex overcome their differences, hardship and secrets together. It's fun to read about dual POVs instead of one and there's lots of the children involvement in the book. Although it's very obvious what's really going on but it just keeps me going on reading the book. I'm looking forward to this author next book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a well-written romantic suspense novel with realistic characters. Alex, Molly, their children, and their friends were people you could relate to, and the villains were chillingly believable. My heart ached for Alex from the beginning of the book since he didn't know the truth about his wife's death and was so haunted by it and by the threats to him and his children. The ending was perfect. A great debut novel!
This book was my introduction to Mr. Awtry's work. A slow burn, but filled with suspense, Letting Go kept me engaged from the first chapter. I'll definitely follow Anthony's work and look forward to reading Larry and Jenna's story in the spring of 2017.
I liked this story. A tad predictable. It made me laugh. It made me cry. I guess the thing I wasn't crazy about was that there was a lot of story left after the final showdown.
Thought I reviewed this already but it seems it didn't take. This book grabbed my attention and I read it straight through. Can't wait for the next..these characters live!
