Three Men and a Maybe

Rate this book
A free short story…the perfect treat for yourself this Christmas

It’s the age-old saying. You wait all day for a bus, and then three come along at once. But proposals? That’s just ridiculous. And yet, on New Year’s Eve, as the countdown finishes and the whole pub erupts in celebrations, Cerys finds herself staring at her ex-fiancé, Ricky. Who just so happens to be kneeling on the floor, ring in hand, asking her to marry him. Again.

And if that weren’t enough, hot barman Angelo, and longtime friend Huw also decide to pop the question. At the exact same time.

Three men, two real contenders, but just one choice. What on earth will she do?

For a 50 something page story it was good. There was the element of cliffhanger, the throwback to learn the story and last the conclusion that leaves you satisfied. Though I was sure she would choose otherwise.

This is a sweet short story about finding love. Cerys is a thirty year old woman, quite particular about a few things. She is bringing in the new year in a pub, with her friends. At the count down ended, she's proposed by three men. All of them proposed her for different reasons. Then we find about their history.
She says maybe to one of them, and the best one of the lot.

I liked the slightly satirical tone. Enjoyed it.

What a fabulous short story!

Sometimes short stories can to be lacking in content, but this one is full to the brim.

The characterisation is excellent; such well developed, relatable characters and a lovely, gentle humour throughout.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and intend to read more from Katey Lovell.

It's New Year's Eve and Cerys is at a pub with her friends. Nothing special is happening until countdown, when all of a sudden her ex-fiancé Ricky goes on one knee to ask Cerys to marry him. Soon after the barman of the pub, Angelo, who's a real ladies' man, proposes as well. And then last, but not least, Cerys's best friend Huw asks her to marry him at the exact same time too. Which man will Cerys choose, is one of them giving her enough butterflies in her stomach to say yes?

Three Men and a Maybe is a great story set in a crowded pub on New Year's Eve. I loved the idea of beginning the new year very different from the one before because of three amazing proposals. Cerys has a history with each of the men, but who is the one that has won her heart? It was certainly entertaining to find out and I read the story with a big smile on my face.

Katey Lovell writes lively, dreamy stories that always have a creative angle. I love the way she sees the world and her writing makes me cheerful. She has a distinctive writing style and I like her original use of adverbs very much. I enjoy her sense of humor and she makes sure there are plenty of unexpected and interesting twists and turns. Three Men and a Mabe is festive, fabulous and fun.

Proposals a-plenty for Cerys at the stroke of midnight... her best friend, her ex-fiancé and a recent sexy fling. Spoiled for choice...?

I loved this light-touch festive short from Katey Lovell (queen of coffee-break reads!) and devoured it in one sitting. Jumping back from the multi-proposal scenes, we see flashback vignettes that sum up her relationships with each of the men. I loved this approach, which was clever and quick and very effective.

This little novella is FREE, which is amazing.

"Three Men and a Maybe" is a story of a girl by the name "Cerys".

Cerys is a simple, down-to-earth "kind" of a girl working as a receptionist at a doctor's clinic. The story is about three men whom Cerys meets at different phases of her life. The first guy "Huw" (strange name, though) is Cerys' closest friend and they know each other since their school days. Cerys' loses her virginity with him. The second chap is "Ricky" with whom Cerys was engaged. The relationship comes to an end because Ricky loses all his money in gambling. The third guy "Angelo" is very attractive and she meets him in a bar.

On a new year's eve, when the entire world is having a blast, a turmoil hits Cerys' life as she encounters all the three men at the same point of time and all of them proposes her for marriage. She suddenly finds herself in a very delicate situation but handles it quite well.

Honestly, I did not like the story much and neither did I like the style of writing :(

Its a time pass read and only if you get this book free, I would suggest you read it (as I did) :)

This was a really sweet novella and bring Welsh myself it was nice to see the action set in Cardiff.
Cerys and her group of friends go out over new year but Cerys is faced with a choice, three men either want her or want to marry her so she gets to thinking of the past and how they all treated her and what went wrong with their relationship before.
How can she decide?
Will she choose one of them or reject them all?
Only time with tell.
Just a cute, quick and fun read that can be digested in one sitting.

A Cute Shorty

A cute, fun, short read. Love the fact that it is the typical wallflower that gets the attention in this one. The characters are fun loving and sweet. Enjoyed the interactions with the main character.

A short and sweet story that I read in no time at all. I quite liked it and the decision at the end was pretty good! I was quite hoping it would turn out that way and when it did, it felt pretty satisfying!
Over all, it was a quick and lovely read.

This is a lovely, festive short story. It's full of romance, fun and a little bit of raunchiness, because frankly, if you can't have that during your festive celebrations, what's the point? It's currently free on Amazon, Kindle and if you're missing Katey's writing, having finished, The Singalong Society for Singletons, The Cafe in Fir Tree Park and Joe and Clara's Christmas Countdown, then you can console yourself with a little extra hit of Katey loveliness.

Review: This was such a fun Christmas read. If you're looking for something to read during this busy time of year, you have it right here. Because this short story is under 60 pages, you can read it in one delicious sitting. But what it lacks in pages, it certainly doesn't lack in content. This little beauty has all the features of a full-length novel and will definitely leave you wanting to know what happens next!

This book sees Cerys on New Year's eve and, as you can see from the blurb, she is the recipient of not one but 3 proposals that night. We get to learn a lot about each of these three men and Cerys herself as well as her best friends. We learn as much about her in 59 pages as you would do in a full length novel and I loved spending this time with her.

The structure of the story is that we flashback to when Cerys met each of these potential suitors and we get a little insight into what went down with all of the men. I really liked that, although the story is set at literally 5 minutes to midnight, we actually get to see this story unfold over the course of 13 years or so, so not quite the short story it seems to be at first.

I loved the structure, I loved the characters and I absolutely need to know what happens next to this fab main character. Katey Lovell, please continue this story!

I've read a few of Katey's works now, but I think this might be my favourite so far. Too good to be free, but I'm not complaining!

When heroine Cerys agrees to be designated driver for her friends on New Year's Eve, she's not expecting a night that's anything out of the ordinary. She's certainly not expecting her ex-fiancé to turn up and drop to one knee before waving a ring at her. Or her close friend Huw. Or her sexy crush Angelo...

Three proposals but only one real contender for Cerys' affections. Who'll get her "maybe" as midnight chimes?

The story is cleverly told in a series of vignettes, each one a key scene in Cerys' past relationships with her three suitors. Without giving away any spoilers, I really fell for one of the men. Their past together was so sweet, I couldn't help rooting for him. Cerys is such a likeable heroine too, the sort of friend you'd definitely choose to spend a New Year's Eve in the pub with. I loved the way she balanced vulnerability with a certain no-nonsense attitude that told the men in her life she wouldn't be played.

This is somewhere between a novella and a short story, longer than Katey's MeetCute stories, but it was just the right length to feel you'd really got to know the characters. My only complaint is it ended too soon! I'd love too find out what comes next for Cerys. Sequel please!

It must be nearly every girls dream to be proposed to by the one they love, for Cerys she gets three! All on the same evening!

I have to admit I didn’t know whether to be envious or just glad that I wasn’t in that position myself. Obviously she can only say yes to one of them but which one will she choose?

The story flicks from the proposals to Cery’s time spent in a relationship with each contender. All seem to be quite perfect to start with but as with any relationships cracks start to appear, well in some cases with Cerys, big craters.

It is all a very light hearted read. Even though obviously things didn’t work out with any of them originally, Cerys has to decide which one is worth having another go with. I have to admit to not finding any of the love interests that great on the appeal scale. Where some may have it all in the looks department they are sadly let down in the personality department. Do you know what though? Who cares, it’s Cery’s decision and I was just glad to be around for the ride.

Three Men and a Maybe is a light hearted and enjoyable short story. It’s great for something quick that you can get stuck straight into and as it’s currently free, what have you got to lose?

This is a cute short story for the festive season. It begins one New Years Eve, Cerys is at the pub with her friends. Just before midnight two of her ex's and her best friend all go down on one knee. This is only 60 pages or so, so you can easily read it in one sitting. Although it is so short, it does feel like a full length novel. By going back in time to discover what things were like for Cerys when she was going out with these men and how she feels about them, really gives the reader character description and understanding.

By the time the clock strikes midnight we have visited Cerys flashbacks and she has made her decision.

This was a very enjoyable read and the best thing is this little gem is currently free on Amazon so you have nothing to lose.

if you see me speed reading all the free romance novellas I downloaded to my kindle over the last five years in one month to try and meet my book goal... no u did not. no u didn't

✨ 2.5 stars
✨ content warnings: nothing major
✨ tl;dr: quick read about a woman and three of her life's different romantic interests with vignettes back in time, all culminating in a single wild new year's eve
✨ liked:
- the setting was cute, I just love the holidays in the UK and you can't make me stop
- the concept was also very cute and unique
✨ less into:
- the characters were so underdeveloped it was hard to understand what any of their motives were or actions meant, with a lot more time and care the concept could be really cool actually

This is a sweet, short romance story set over the New Year celebrations - just as the midnight bongs finish, Cerys is proposed to unexpectedly by three different men.
The following three chapters are each devoted to flashbacks of Cerys' previous relationships with each of her three suitors, and the final chapter returns to the present. I liked the way the story was set out in this way - the opening, the detail and finally the decision!
This was a fun, quick, easy to read short story which I enjoyed.

Wow, what a feel good book

My new favourite book of the year

This book was such a feel good book and covered so many of my favourite things, WALES, PUGS, BRAINS BEER AND THE MAIN CHARACTER HAS THR SAME NAME AS MY FIRST CAR.

Anyone who is welsh or lives in Wales needs to read this book, it is a short story and such a lovely light hearted feel good book.

Cerys is your typical Welsh girl who loves to have fun and spend time with her friends and follows her heart to find true love.
