It’s the holidays at the salon, and Savannah is tasked once again with solving the case, this time of a Grinch who’s determined to ruin Christmas… for everyone
***This is a 52,000 word Novella***
It starts much like the old fairy tale… everyone asleep in their beds, while a grouchy old Scrooge steals all the decorations and presents. But this time, it’s real. When the spirits of the townspeople are dampened by the loss of their holiday cheer, Savannah sets out with her beau, James Woodley, to find the thief and make him (or her!) bring back Christmas. But Savannah has bigger problems than a holiday thief. Pete, one of her stylists, is currently the lead for the Christmas play, as the original actor broke his leg while walking up Pete’s steps. Did Pete sabotage the stairs in order to get the part? Even worse, Savannah’s charge, Sarah, is turning seven on Christmas Day, and her parents are coming back to Knockemstiff. Are they taking her away from Savannah… forever? A cozy mystery full of romance, suspense, crafts and Christmas cheer, Holiday Hooligans is a humorous tale of friendship and parenthood. Pour a cup of eggnog and sit back to enjoy the third installment in Constance Barker’s suspenseful, thrilling murder mystery series.
Constance Barker lives in the Midwest with her husband and two Akitas where she can look out from her screened porch onto a wooded area brimming with activity. Since she was a young girl she read mysteries, often given to her by her grandmother. She loved figuring out who the culprit was and sometimes she was right and other times startled at who the author picked as the assailant. Now she enjoys writing mysteries herself. When she isn't writing stories, she can be found in her favorite vacation spot, Las Vegas or shopping for bargains.
This story is small town at its best and it's worst! Just like real small town are. The characters are well developed and quirky enough to keep you interested. It's definitely a cozy mystery, the genre I love most. Looking forward to reading more from Constance Baker!
Savannah is tired of Grinch stealing Christmas, make it where people have to wait two before Christmas to shop. A thief breaks in and takes the presents from her shop. Delightful, funny of what goes on in a salon.
Loved the book and the characters are wonderful. Now need to read the others in this series and then maybe some of the other series she has out. Very fun book and who fun it was a real surprise. Very enjoyable. Highly recommend it.
Easy read. Somewhat cute story but had trouble with the 7 year old being wise beyond her years. Sorry , but this just didn't ring true. Still, a good read to escape reality!!
Grinch, accident, and birthday..no murder! Christmas is coming to the Teasen & Pleasen Hair Salon. In spite of customers who don't think Christmas decorations should be out around town, Savannah and crew decorate the salon and get ready for the holidays. Only the next time Savannah goes to the salon, she has been robbed of all the decorations and presents. First "on" the scene is the same person who is janitor at Sarah's school, Billy. He proclaims his innocence- he just happened on the open back door (and the dumpster of full of goodies and tree that have magically disappeared.) All of a sudden it is happening all over town. Woodley, who is in town to see Savannah while on a vacation, joins Savannah and Sarah in detecting the mystery. Then there is Pete, one of the hairdressers, who is an understudy that gets the lead in the Christmas play by default when the lead breaks his leg on the steps to his apartment in a building where Pete also lives. Did Pete sabotage the steps to get his opportunity? And most importantly, Sarah turns seven on Christmas day. Her parents are coming...to take her away from Savannah?
So many mysteries at a busy time of year. It was a delightful read that makes the small town an idyllic place to live and celebrate the holidays. Ms. Barker continues to keep the characters realistic and enjoyable. I liked getting to know some of the characters better and seeing Nellie's home life! Action doesn't lag, and mysteries and character's problems are nicely tied up at the end, but with plenty of opportunities to continue the fun series.
In the small town of Knockemstiff, Louisiana, Christmas is in full swing and has been for a while. Decorations are up all over town and everything appears quite festive.
At the Pleasen Teasen Hair Salon, they are planning on decorating once they have closed for the day. It makes for a fun evening, but when they return the next morning all their decorations have vanished. And not only that, but it looks like someone has gone around town and pulled a “Grinch” by stealing and getting rid of everyone’s Holiday decorations. Who would do such a thing and why?
This was an entertaining little holiday story, but it really did need to have gone through another round or two of editing. Had it been a little better edited before I read it, I would have definitely enjoyed the story much more.
The story the author shared with us was presented in an intriguing manner with characters that were well developed and was clearly part of a continuing series. As a fun little mystery series, it works quite well. I enjoyed it and will likely look up other books from this author in this series at some point in the future.
I very much enjoy the Cozy mysteries. Even though this book included a mystery, it was heart warming to include a very loving side story. Although you could guess what the ending was going to be, it was one of the best side story I've read in these books.
I have never heard of this author before. I received it as a free book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I definitely will be reading more of her books. A nice clean read which isn't always easy to find these day with a nice story line .
