Black Wolf

Rate this book
Mark Taylor is the hot new horror writer, and countless readers are eagerly awaiting his next bestselling novel featuring Black Wolf.

When Mark receives a fawning note from an Americaqn fan, he unwisely writes stright back with a signed photo. But this friendly gesture provokes a deluge of letters becoming increasingly werid and rambling. Clearly the man is an obsessive misfit that identifies much too closely with the novel's violent supernatural hero.

Distracted by personal problems, Mark loses patience, and fails to notice the mounting psychosis of his 'number-one' fan. He cannot know that a small US town is already terrorised by a spate of bizarre deaths dubbed 'the wolfman murders'.

Nor can he predict that London will soon suffer its own sequence of grisly killings - each one modelled on the dark workings of Mark's imagination.

Will the author fall prey to a monster of his own creation?

I'd never heard of this author before but as I've been in the mood for horror just recently, I couldn't help but pick it up in a local shop...& what a little gem it is!

"Imagine your worst nightmare...then watching it come true" pretty much sums up what happens to author Mark Tyler. Tyler's number one American fan, Leonard "recognises" himself in Tyler's creation Black Wolf & contacts him trying to establish a friendship. On learning Tyler has no desire to continue with the "Black Wolf" series & is killing all the characters off, Leonard turns up in London hell bent on a killing spree that mimics the death of the "Black Wolf" characters.

I really enjoyed this, the style of writing appealed to me, no nonsense it just gets on with the story with just enough blood & gore to be gruesome yet without slipping into schlock horror territory. Coupled with the sort of dry humour that I like it was my sort of book.

While reading it the storyline seemed very plausible. After all Leonard isn't a werewolf, his wolf-like bites are caused by a pair of dentures he made himself - don't snigger! Leonard's dad was a dentist which is how he learnt to make his own teeth & so it all seemed perfectly possible while I was engrossed in the tale.

Most definitely one of the better...much better...horror thrillers I've read certainly in the past year or so. A good find indeed :o)

A slow plotted thriller. The premise of a fan of a horror writer, becoming infatuated and trying to grab his attention when the said author starts to ignore his letters. He starts killing people.
