Rate this book
May, 1944

In occupied France, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel is in residence at the Normandy chateau of the Ronsceville family.

Following his defeat at the hands of General Montgomery at El Alamein in the autumn of 1942 and the resultant loss of Africa, Rommel still believes that the Allies could be defeated in the Endkampf, the final battle.

Rommel’s present task is to ensure that the so-called Atlantic Wall is strong enough to throw the Allies back into the sea once the invasion comes.

As he knows some time soon, it will come...

But General Montgomery isn’t finished with Rommel just yet.

He has his own plan to defeat the Axis powers.

The plan is code-named Overlord but before it can be successful, General Montgomery has one vital task for Callum Douglas of the Special Air Service.

Only Rommel might have the courage and skill to destroy Overlord and Montgomery knows this cannot be allowed to happen, whatever the cost.

So Callum Douglas finds himself with his most dangerous target yet – Rommel himself…

Target - Rommel is a tense historical thriller filled with action and adventure.

“Target Rommel” eBook was published in 2016 (original paper version published in 1991) and was written by Robert Jackson (https://www.fantasticfiction.com/j/ro...). Mr. Jackson has written over 50 books, both Fiction and Non-Fiction, on World War II, with a focus on aircraft of the era.

I received a galley of this novel for review through https://www.netgalley.com. I categorize this novel as ‘PG’ because it contains scenes of Violence. The story is primarily set in France during 1944 World War II. The primary character is British Major Callum Douglas of the SAS.

The Allied invasion in France is rapidly approaching. In an effort to disrupt the German response, British General Montgomery sends Douglas and a band of SAS commandos into France with orders to kill Rommel. German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel is in command of of the costal defenses. The Allies fear that he may be able to maneuver the German forces and push the Allies back into the sea.

Douglas and his team head into France at night, but they are ambushed upon landing. They must evade the Germans as they attempt to carry out their mission. As D-Day begins, they do their best to disrupt the Germans.

This was an interesting 4 hour read of 145 pages. I have read several of Jackson’s noels and have enjoyed them all. This was a good World War II Military Thriller. The cover art work is reasonable for this novel. I give this novel a 3.8 (rounded up to a 4) out of 5.
