From International Bestselling Author Katie Graykowski comes a love story about friendship, laughter, and Louisiana politics.
Charlotte Guidry, Charlie, is Louisiana royalty. Her ancestor, Jean-Bapiste Le Moyne De Bienville, settled New Orleans and someone from her family has been running either the city or the state ever since. Her father, The Honorable Thaddeus Thibodaux governor of the great state of Louisiana, is up for reelection and Charlie is in charge of his campaign.
Wagner Scott will do anything to help his candidate, Andre Chauvin, win the governorship including wining and dining the competition’s campaign manager. It certainly isn’t a hardship taking Charlie Guidry out on the town, in fact, he’s enjoying this assignment. He’s never met a woman quite like Charlie. She’s anything but dull. Soon, she comes to mean more to him than just a means to an end. He has feelings for her.
Can he sacrifice everything he believes in for love? Can she forgive him?
Fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson won’t want to miss this story full of laughter, love, and ranching.
I've been waiting to read/listen to the final book in The Marilyns series for a while now and finally got around to it and it was a really lovely end to this very funny and enjoyable series.
Charlie works for her father, governor of Louisiana, and so is used to being around lying politicians. Her father is up for re-election and his opponent is the (much older, horrible) guy that Charlie left at the altar after being nearly bulldozed into marrying him by her Father. Because of that Charlie, and her Father, aren't his favourite people and he hires Wagner to romance Charlie and find out all her Father's political secrets so he can win the race.
Wagner is a 'fixer' and takes the job on willingly, until he meets Charlie and falls head over heels in love with her. Charlie doesn't know exactly what's going on to start with, but she knows something isn't right, as do the other 'Marilyns', her friends Betts and Lucky (from the previous two books), along with Bett's mad but very funny Mother, and they set out to uncover the truth and protect their friend.
Charlie was such a laid back, honest character it was hard to believe she worked in politics, but it was so refreshing that she was that way. You had to love Wagner too, even though he started off lying about his intentions, as he was also a great character who kept putting his foot in his mouth every time he was around Charlie and lost possession of his brain!!
Very, very funny with great characters, and a really lovely happy ending - but I would expect nothing less of a Katie Graykowski book read by the wonderful Pam Dougherty. I'm sad this series has ended, but if you're looking for another book then the 'Lone Stars' series is just as funny and well worth a read/listen.
This was a delightful listen! The story by Katie Graykowski was the funniest I've read in a long time! Wagner Scott is hired by Charlie's father's political opponent (who happens to also be her ex-fiance) to get close to her to learn the campaign secrets. Wagner is a "fixer". He goes in and fixes problems that people have. However, he turns out to be the one that needs fixing. Charlie brings something out in him that makes it impossible for his brain to filter the awkward and sexually inappropriate thoughts he has around her. It makes for a lot of hilarious dialogue! When he realizes he's in love with her, he wants to quit that particular job and make things right. But will it be too late when Charlie finds out he was working for her ex-fiance? Charlie was a great character (very sophisticated and put together, but with a great sense of humor), but Wagner Scott was my favorite character. All of the characters in this book were amazing and the performance by Pam Dougherty just made them stand out even more. I will definitely be looking for more of the works of Katie Graykowski and Pam Dougherty, together and separately.I highly recommend if laughing out loud while listening isn't a problem for you!
The last book in this series. Charlie is all set to marry the man her father wanted. But she does not love him. In grand Marilyn fashion her soul sisters help her escape the wedding. Now she is working on her father's campaign. Her jilted ex is running against him. The new hire for her ex's campaign has his hands full. Even though they are on opposite sides of the elections there is chemistry. In true Mama Cherie fashion a story without her is dull. Her way with words have grown men covering up all manly parts for safety. Now when Charlie finds out why Wagner is in town may break her heart.
I really wish this book had been longer. It seems unfair Charlie would only get 150 pages when Lucky and Betts had 200+. That's not to say the story wasn't good, but I felt like it could've been even better. I loved seeing Lucky and Betts doing well and thriving. And as always it is a pleasure to see the Marilyns look out for each other. Special shout to Mama Cherie for always keeping things interesting!
This was the last book in the series. This installment featured the daughter of the governor of Louisiana. She also happened to be his campaign manager targeted by the competition. Though a fast read, you won't be disappointed. There were fewer high-jinks than in the other installments, but I still enjoyed this series closure.
Katie Graykowski writes the best stories about friendships and belonging. This is the second series i have read of hers. They are about family's made up of love more than blood. Wonderful heartwarming stories!
This was another wonderful book that I read last week. I read in ones sitting so you could call it a page turner and loved it. This is a home run for KATIE with this boom!
This book was awesome. I hated putting it down. Loved the characters and just the story in general. A must read. I read this book out of order and it works as a stand alone book.
Sorry Charlie is the long awaited charming and funny third book in The Marilyn's series written by author Katie Graykowski. Everything she writes is delightful.
What a good book! Such great characters and the setting of the book in New Orleans is just perfect. As I'm reading this I feel like I'm there walking down the street or sitting on the porch at the guest house. I love the Marilyn's and the friendship between these three and you can't forget about Mama! In this book mama was a bit tame and I would have loved to see her over the top personality and clothing shine!
The third in a trilogy about three friends from high school - Charlie is the last to get her story but it was worth waiting for...
Charlotte is Lousiana royalty - her ancestors are some of the first settlers in New Orleans - and someone from her family has been running either the city or the state ever since. Charlie is in charge of her Dad's reelection campaign - the Honorable Thaddeus Thibodaux is governor of Louisiana.
Wagner Scott will do anything to help his client win the governorship - including wining and dining the competition's campaign manager. this seemed like business as usual to Wagner, until he actually met Charlie. Nothing like her dossier he has on her - it throws him and makes him reconsider his job.
The question is can Wagner sacrifice everything he believe in for love and can Charlie forgive him when she finds out the truth
I enjoyed this book - it was an easy read with likeable hero and heroine but also an engaging wider cast including the other Marilyns and Mama Cherie
Charlie finally gets her own story and I love it. Wagner came into town to ruin Charlie but things change as soon as he meets her. Great book and i will recommend it.
Charlie's ex-fiance, Jerome Breaux is running against her farther for governor of Louisiana and he hires Wagner Scott to romance her and find out any secrets. Scott is surprised when he meets Charlie and she is nothing like what he was expecting.
Charlie is down to earth and Scott can't help but say what's on his mind in the form of cheesy pick up lines. They go out and get to know each other but Charlie is suspicious about Scott's intentions as Jerome has sent in his spies before.
Scott sees himself falling for Charlie and imagining a life with her but his contract with Jerome makes it complicated. Although he is no longer interested in the contract there is still the issue of Charlie finding out the real reason he is New Orleans.
This was a nice sweet read and was good seeing Betts and Lucky as it has been a while since I read the first two books in the series. Although I thought the ending was a little abrupt and would have liked to had more of a resolution but the epilogue was a nice edition.
I have been waiting for this book it seems like forever. The final Marilyn book was all the things I've come to know and love in Katie Graykowski's writing. There are funny moments and emotional moments. These women are the best examples of friendship and love. You can't forget Mama Cherie and the laughs she already brings. This book added so much to the series including a little of the supernatural. I highly, highly recommend this series to any and every reader out there!
I love this story. Graykowski`s Marilyn series will leave you in stitches and with a smile on your face. Her characters have big personalities and are very entertaining.
This is the third book in the Marilyns trilogy. I really enjoyed this book. It's a sweet read with some funny moments in it. The ending was a bit abrupt but the epilogue was a nice completion to the story. It was a shame I read it see so quickly.
Charlie ditches her fiance at the alter and takes control of her life. But Jerome hires someone to romance and fix her but they fall in love. A great fun book set in my home state -the Marilyn's rock N.O.
