WARNING: reading Catch Me If You Cannes may result in embarrassing outbursts of belly-aching laughter on public transport. Romantic, funny and full of Cannes Film Festival magic, it's perfect for fans of Giovanna Fletcher, Paige Toon and Mhairi McFarlane.
Jess has decided it's time to get out of her comfort zone and live a little. So when her best friend Bryony, a journalist on a gossip magazine, is sent to cover the Cannes Film Festival, Jess decides to seize the day and go along for the ride. Two weeks of sun, glamour and exclusive entry into celeb-filled parties is just the kind of adventure Jess needs.
Reality soon bites though when Jess and Bryony find they're staying in a dingy hotel far away from all the action and Bryony's expenses budget barely covers a glass of local wine. Undeterred, the two women are determined to live like the elite and enjoy one fancy night out to begin their holiday. So what if they have to tell a few white lies along the way? It's just this once. No harm done . . . right?
Full of hilarious one-liners, sparkling blue seas and plenty of romantic moments, Catch Me If You Cannes is the story of two friends, a few white lies and one very sticky situation . . .
Hello! I wrote The Twelve Dates of Christmas, You Had Me at Merlot and Catch Me If You Cannes. Hope you like them. You look super-nice today. L xx
Oh, here's the official bio:
Lisa Dickenson was born in the wrong body. She was definitely meant to be Beyonce. Despite this hardship, she grew up in Devon attempting to write her own, completely copyright-infringing versions of Sweet Valley High, before giving Wales a go for university, and then London a go for the celeb-spotting potential. She's now back in Devon, living beside the seaside with her husband and forcing cream teas down the mouths of anyone who'll visit. She is sadly still not Beyonce.
This is THE perfect beach read, and exactly what I was looking for this summer!
Lisa Dickenson is the queen of British romcom. She is the funniest, kindest and coolest author I have had the pleasure of knowing (and let it be said, I "met" her online AFTER becoming a fan of her books!). Her humor is sometimes over the top and slapstick a la Bridget Jones and I just love it. I get it. It makes me smile.
If you're looking for a book to throw into your beach bag and laugh at while sipping cocktails on the beach, look no further!
If you are going on holiday this year then pick up a copy of Catch Me If You Cannes as it is perfect summer holiday reading. It's quick witted, hilarious, set during the Canne Film Festival and is generally a delightful story to read.
It is split into four parts that all follow on from each other, but if you are are just trying to read for a short time, aim to read it part by part...although that may just lead you to reading the book in once sitting due to the mini cliffhangers, that make you want to continue reading regardless of real life pressures.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to try and infiltrate the gliterati at the Cannes Film Festival? Well that is exactly what Jess and Bryone manage with all manner of hilarious outcomes. There are some little white lies, some brilliant parties attended, both of their wallets take a beating, as they attempt to fit in somewhere they arguably shouldn't be.
Bryony is a journalist and is attempting to dig up some dirt on the festival to try and make a breakthrough int more hard hitting journalism than her work at Sleb lets her. With her investigating and active imagination, it leads to all kinds of assumptions.
I warmed to Jess from the first sentence of the book, which gave a great insight as to potentially the sort of character she would be. Not too long into her first day in Cannes she meets a gorgeous man, and I loved seeing how their story developed, along with their addiction to Nutella Crepes!
With the whole book I really felt as though I was there besides the characters, that I could feel the sun beating down in me in the South of France, as they experience Cannes during the crazy two weeks of the Festival. I loved their day trip to Monaco, and could picture everything so clearly that i thought I was there too.
Every second of Catch Me If You Cannes had me smiling, feeling so happy that I was able to enjoy this fabulous book. It is such a joyous reading experience, quick paced, the whole story takes place over just two weeks, and what an action packed two weeks it is. The sense of humour in the book was great, as was everything to do with Catch Me If You Cannes.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Sphere for this copy of the book which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I was expecting a light and enjoyable summer read when I started reading "Catch me if you Cannes" but unfortunately the book couldn't hit that spot for me.
I already had some trouble getting into the story and connecting with the characters. I found everything quite shallow and everything remaind very distant to me. Unfortunately this didn't get better throughout the story, it got rather worth as I totally lost interest in the story and there was nothing that hooked me to the book.
After reading the book, I was wondering what the story was about because I felt the only thing the protagonists were doing was to search any celebrities and pretend to be important themselves.
Lisa Dickenson takes us on holidays - again! After Italy in "You Had Me at Merlot" it's time for France, and not any France but Cannes itself! I've packed my bag already with flip - flops and very roomy sarongs and am readyyyyy! Yes, I would go anytime and anywhere with Lisa and her brilliant sense of humour and colourful, witty storytelling. Just imagine what great holidays would it be!
"Catch Me if You Cannes" introduces us mainly to our two main characters, Jess and Bryony. Bryony works for a tabloid that is fairly at the end of all the tabloids but nevertheless, her boss sends her to Cannes Film Festival to cover as many juicy, sexy, fat scandals as possible and Jess, who lately seems a little low, decides to tag along with her best friend. The girls very quickly find themselves in the middle of action, among the right crowd and well, Jess meets a boy! OK, they weren't expecting to stay in this hotel at the outskirts of Cannes where, if you want to see the see, you must do some yoga - like moves, and so when they are taken for other people, they just decide to fib a little, throw in some white lies and see when reality is going to bite again. For now, they are determined to live the celebrity life and enjoy their holidays as much as they Can(nes).
Guys, everything is right with book. Everything! Characters. Setting. Dialogues. Pace. EVERYTHING! Lisa can create the most incredible, warm, realistic characters ever, characters that I have a feeling I used to know when I was a baby, through my childhood, teenage years and half of my adult life. They might be incredibly funny and easy to like people, but there is also incredible depth to all of them, and they all feel like real people, as if you could just stretch a hand and feel them. I fell in love with Jess and Bryony from the start - Jess, who has a cafe back in Cornwall, is right now escaping all the troubles and worries that were preoccupying her, and oh my, there was something in this girl that made me want to hug her hard and never let her go. Bryony seems to be the louder and more feisty of the two friends, larger than life, but there is still such a vulnerability to her, and she's dreaming of becoming a serious journalist one day, and they compliment each other so great, and it is only Lisa who could capture all those contrasts in the girls so well. I absolutely loved the fact that the girls just went with the flow. Oh well, when being mistaken for being other people, some kind of VIPs, they just went with it, and methinks, why not??? They had the guts for this and I admired them for this and because I would be too scared, it doesn't mean that they couldn't spend the holidays of their lives, right? But also all the other supporting characters are just a real pleasure to read and you can't help but root for them or want to slap them, or wipe away the smirk off their faces, yes, Celine. Lisa knows when and where to add a new character and she finds uses for all of them, they are all absolutely needed and add tons of fun to the story. Jess, Bryony, Leo, Harvey, Richard and Co., they were so damned and utterly likeable! I absolutely adored the awkward conversations made by Jess and Leo, they were hilarious, and OH. MY. WORD but they team up together so well! They are so cute, and so shy, and they say the funniest things, and everything between them seems so real and honest, the glances, the brushing against each other , light touching... Absolutely adorable!
Lisa can so truly vividly describe the settings, and it's no exception with this story. I could feel the warmth of the sun on my face, see the blue water sparkling and oh my gosh, what I need right now are crepes with Nutella!!! (Well, because there are no crepes in the distance of around 160 km from me, I've just settled for Nutella. It did the trick as well). And oh, what with my nosiness, I couldn't wait to spot a celebrity or two, partying on the biggest yachts in the world! One of the highlights of this book must have been the trip to Monaco (casino! Formel1!, Palace...! I must stop or I'll start crying with jealousy at all the sights and good weather and money won in casino. I LOVE casinos.), losing glasses and then buying new ones, in the most over - priced shops in the world when you credit card is maxed up totally, and of course all the scenes with Jess and Leo doing their very awkward flirting, and saying all the things you shouldn't say on a date - but it was all so genuine and honest, and I just wanted to hug them to my respectable bosom, kiss them on their heads and assure them everything is going to be OK.
"Catch Me if you Cannes" was packed full, as it usually is with Lisa's stories, of incredible, belly - ache one - liners. There is something magic and addictive to Lisa's writing. It's so light and easy to follow, and it leaves you full of sparkles and will to live, really. But it's not only laugh - out - loud story about the adventures of two best friends, oh no, Lisa, as usually, has added some softer and emotional moments to the plot as well, that just made me love the story much, much more, because well, life is not only a bed of roses, right? But let's be honest, it is the ultimate chick - lit, summer-y read that's going to leave you with cheesy grins. There is a feel - good factor to it, sunshine, humour and good vibes, everything that you could wish for! It's funny, it's flirty, and it's full of surprises and hilarious situations. It has the best characters ever invented, the greatest friendship and crazy family. Let's be honest, no matter what Lisa Dickenson writes, she turns it into a real cracker, and I absolutely can't wait for more from her. Her writing is so warm and addictive, and there is no such thing as too much humour in her books, and moreover, this humour is incredibly clever and with belly - laugh effect. It is also oh so very gentle and lovely, and the characters that Lisa creates are so genuine and feel so realistic. "Catch Me if You Cannes" was a brilliant novel, quick to read and quirky, perfect to settle down in the sun, probably with a glass of mimosa (or two, depends on how fast you drink) and devour it, just devour it, such delicious read it was. - it's an absolute MUST READ, so please don't wait, just BUY THE BOOK RIGHT NOW and thank me later for the recommendation.

At 32-years old, Jess is content with her life. She has a successful cafe, the best friend a girl could ask for, and a loving, supportive family. But she hasn’t ever left her comfort zone. Heck, she’s barely even traveled. So when her best friend, Bryony, is being sent for work to the Cannes Film Festival, Jess sees it as the perfect opportunity to live a little. Two weeks in paradise with a bunch of possible celebrities, what could go wrong?
When Bryony and Jess arrive in Cannes, it’s not quite as glamorous as they thought. Their hotel doesn’t have the promised sea view and Bryony’s expense budget covers no more than the house glass of wine. But they’re determined to make the best of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Their first night on the town, they happen upon a group of socialites and in order to fit in, they tell some white lies. They want more than anything to appear like they fit in with the elite. When in Rome, right?
And then Jess—literally—runs into an extremely attractive man at a crepe cart of all places. His name’s Leo and they hit it off immediately. And better yet, he’s successful and owns a yacht. Beside the money and the super yacht, Leo is funny, sweet, and a really good kisser. But Jess doesn’t want to come off as a gold-digger, so she keeps up the facade of grandeur from the previous night. A couple white lies won’t hurt, especially if her supposed success impresses Leo.
But it appears that Leo may not be as honest as Jess thought and she may not be the only one telling some fibs. And the seemingly harmless white lies are getting way out of control and land Jess and Bryony in a rabbit hole they may not be able to get out of...
Catch Me if You Cannes by Lisa Dickenson is a lighthearted, breezy beach read. It’s fluffy and cute—nothing too serious—and sometimes that’s exactly what I’m in the mood for. The plot line is funny, maybe a little predictable, and the characters are likable. This is the perfect vacation read and I look forward to reading more by this author! 4/5 stars.
Lisa Dickenson's Catch Me If You Cannes is finally out in paperback and I couldn't be more excited. I loved Lisa's previous books and completely fell in love with her witty and fresh style where the laughs are guaranteed and Catch Me If You Cannes is no different. In this story we meet Jess and Bryony, two very different but close friends who are gonna stay for two weeks in Cannes while Bryony covers the famous festival for her magazine.
Jess, as Bryony says, is a ray of sunshine, and I liked her from page one. Tired of never leaving her small village, she has decided this trip is gonna be full of adventures. And what adventures! Soon the two friends find themselves surrounded by A-listers, oysters and yachts. All this in the beautiful setting of Cannes, with its sunshine and azure sea waters.
During their adventures, Jess meets gorgeous Leo. He seems like the perfect match for Jess, they really connect and I loved reading about their interactions. They were really cute together. But Lisa Dickenson is full of surprises and soon you realise Leo might not be that lovely. While reading this story, I couldn't stop thinking about what was going on and what was going to happen next.
Lisa created a great story that made me want to forget about everything else. I felt like I was in Cannes with them. And we also got to go to Monaco. Montecarlo sounded so glamorous and movie like. I can't wait to visit for myself!
All in all, I think this story will be a summer hit: laughs, beach, cocktails, sunshine and Cannes (oh! and Nutella!!). What a perfect combination for a lazy afternoon by the pool. And now that the paperback is out, you have no excuses for not getting it and devouring it.
Take my advice, put some Lisa Dickenson sunshine in your life this summer, you won't regret it!
Welcome to Cannes where not everyone is who they appear to be.
It was just a couple little white lies to fit in with the rich and famous. What could possibly go wrong? After all, Jess and Byrony were only in Cannes for a couple weeks during the Cannes Film Festival. Jess is just tagging along with Byrony while she is working on getting some delicious gossip for Sleb, the gossip magazine she works for.
When Jess meets Leo, a man who lives on a super yacht, she falls for him right away. But she worries that her lies could be the downfall of what could be a perfect relationship. In the end Jess finds out Leo has some secrets that he is keeping as well. Meanwhile, Byrony gets a chance at the interview of a lifetime, but she fears working for Sleb will close the doors before they even open. So, she decides to say she works for The Times. That is enough to impress everyone. When she learns the secret Veronica wants to come clean about, Byrony wonders if she should even write it for Sleb. What will she do when Veronica expects to see it written in The Times?
Glitz and glamour and love and lies, all rolled into one unforgettable story. I couldn’t help but cheer on Jess and Byrony though their adventure even if they weren’t honest with everyone they met. Hasn’t everyone told a little story to make their life sound more interesting? The secondary characters were just as interesting as Jess and Byrony. I had a hard time closing this book when it was over. I needed more.
My very last book of 2021 was The Twelve Dates Of Christmas by Lisa Dickenson, which I enjoyed very much, so obviously I was eager to read more of her work.
Well dear reader I'm happy to say I really enjoyed this one too.
Jess has decided it's high time she got out of her comfort zone and start to live a little, so when best friend Bryony, a journalist for a gossip magazine is sent to cover the Cannes Film Festival, Jess literally begs her to take her along too.
Two whole weeks of sun, glamour, and more celebrities than you can shake Un Palme D'or at perfect right ?
Well actually you would be wrong, the girls end up in a dingy hotel far away from the action and a glass of the local plonk is about as far as Bryony's expenses account will stretch, and that's not the only thing that will be stretched throughout the next two weeks.
It's only a couple of little white lies after all, I mean what could possibly go wrong ?
I'm saying no more, but there are some cracking one liners throughout, and I'm so glad I picked this book up, I will definitely be reading more by this author.
Jess and Bryony are life long friends and so when Bryony gets sent to the Cannes Film Festival to dig up dirt on celebrities for the sleazy magazine that she works for Jess decides that it is time to start seeing the world and go with her.
They soon manage to get in the thick of it and make some great friends partying but they have to tell a few porkies along the way to be part of the in crowd........and all that champers is definitely not good for the bank balance!
Then while secretly stuffing her face with a nutella crepe Jess meets Leo and totally falls for him.....but why would a super yacht owner be interested in her and what are the secrets that he is keeping and why is he so reticent about what he does for a living?
A great fun book, lovely characters and loads of humour perfect escapism for the beach
Quite simply I loved It!! Not that I'm surprised I've loved all Lisa Dickensons books. This one is set in dreamy Cannes during the festival so plenty of glitz ,plenty of parties and loads of humour! The story centers around Jess accompanying Bryony on her work trip (She's a journalist) and after some small white lies and hilarious misunderstandings it slowly becomes the holiday of a lifetime and the exact kind of adventure Jess needs although what will happen when secrets are revealed? Main characters bff's Jess and Bryony were both relatable and likable. Leo was really lovable also and obviously very swoonworthy! This is the perfect book for any girl who likes abit of romance and humour there's nothing I can diss about the book I'm just looking forward to the next book she brings out which luckily I think is later on this year!
I am a mans man. I eat iron nails for breakfast and read SAS novels. For fun I steal hub caps off moving vechicles. As I spent a bit of time working with Lisa (many years back) I felt checking her latest book out should be done. A rom-com. The lads down the pub laughed but after finishing my 8th pint and third fight I headed home to make a start on it.
What a great read. Yes it could have used some more gadgets, some sniper action and a high speed car chase might not have gone a miss, but such a warming tale of love was told.
Seriously though, really great and thouroughly enjoyed.
I very nearly gave this 4 stars but it’s just not quite good enough for this so really a 3.5. The story was fun and enjoyable but the characters didn’t really develop much and were not greatly rounded either. The author seems to be a little uncomfortable with romance interactions as these lacked emotion and were bland. I also don’t like books that promise me I will belly laugh on public transport (unless it’s a review) and this book was fun but didn’t make me laugh at all. Which was very disappointing. However, it was a fun read and I found myself picking the book up at every available opportunity so this was worth reading.
Catch Me if You Cannes is laugh-out-loud funny, romantic, sparkly gem of a book. The setting, Cannes Film Festival, is gorgeous, the characters are quirky and endearing, and the writing is superb. I loved Jess, Bryony, Leo and Harvey and I loved reading about their adventures and mishaps. Catch Me if You Cannes is a perfect summer/vacation/beach read. If you are looking for a romantic summer book you can’t go wrong with Catch Me if You Cannes.

Good. A real page turner as you just want to keep going on the adventures that Jess and Bryony get up to. Makes a good escapism story as you feel that you are in heart of the glitz and glamour that is Cannes and that you are underneath it's warm sun soaking up it's rays.
WOW......Lisa Dickenson has smashed it with this book. I have read all of her other books and loved them, however this one is my favourite. I could not put it down and found myself waking up early, going to bed late and reading in my lunch break.
The characters are fantastic and I instantly knew I was going to enjoy the book....well who wouldn`t? It`s set in Cannes, huge boats, champagne, celeb parties and a hot guy called Leo with a jar of Nutella!!
If you are going to read one book this Summer, make it this one!
Reviews can also be found on my blog Escapades of a Bookworm I knew from the very first page, the very first line that I was in for a treat. A few pages in and I was in stitches. Honestly this book is hilarious. Every page throws something new and some amusing story.
Jess was a lovable vibrant character whose sunny nature makes up for Bryony’s grumpy days. Both are in harmony with one another and both knows instantly what the other is feeling or need. Theirs is a true friendship, that you instantly warm to and connect with. And Leo and Harvey was so cute.
I love how a little white lie can build and build leading to some awkward situations, an expensive bill and the need to add another little white lie. After all if you’ve started how can you possibly stop? After all there is the beautiful sea views, sunny weather and a little bit of romance.
This was a fun, hilarious read, that is perfect for whatever your mood. Like always, Lisa Dickenson delivers. And if I’m being honest I think this is the best one yet. If you are after a summery read then look no further.
