Meet Liv and Danny...

4.5 STARS!
Well, I was going to say that this is a super cute, easy, quick read... and then Kerry Heavens bulldozed me with a really mean cliffhanger! This will teach me to do my research. I totally didn't realise that this was a cliffy. It isn't completely brutal and it won't leave you a snotty, incoherent mess, but you will be like 'Whaaaat? No! I need to know what happens!'
An adorable second chance romance, this story, set in the UK, begins when twenty-nine-year-old Liv discovers her douchebag boyfriend cheating on her, and finds herself newly single, once again. After a string of crappy relationships, she ends up throwing herself into her work, running her diner and bar, and deciding she's going to 'have some fun'.
But then her first love, her only love, gets in touch via Facebook...
And suddenly, everything is flipped upside down. After a few intense Facebook conversations, Danny and Liv realise that they both still harbour strong feelings for one another, following their relationship as teenagers, before Danny was forced to leave for the US with his parents.
Is a relationship possible when they live on different side of the Atlantic? Are they still in love, or are they just idealising the young romance of their past? And after twelve years apart, are they still the same people they once were?
I really liked this book. We've got so many tattooed bad boys who fall for the lovely, clean cut, good girls... well, this book is a little different in that respect. Liv isn't a bad girl, but she's covered in ink and got plenty of piercings. I loved that they were a little different to our normal book couples.
And I really liked Liv. She was ordinary and down to earth. I liked her surrounding family and friends, I liked her work ethic with her diner and her bar and I liked that she was strong enough to kick her ex-boyfriend into touch and then try (and fail) to fool around and live a little. But it just isn't her. She's a romantic at heart, even if all of her crappy exes have knocked the romance out of her and left her settling for second best.
My only complaint about Liv is the way she dealt with the circumstances at the end of the book. COMMUNICATION, PEOPLE!!! Come on, now! Urgh! But, saying that... wouldn't a lot of books be totally boring if everyone was sensible and rational all the time?
So, then there's Danny. Mr. Romance himself.
Awwww, he's just adorable. He loves the new Liv. The grown up, inked up, independent woman that looks a lot like the vulnerable young girl he left behind and loved with all his heart. I like how decisive he is. Danny knows what he wants and he doesn't hang about.
So, we've all been there, when we're embarking on a new relationship with someone and one of the most exciting parts is the anticipation of the phone call, or the text/email/Facebook message. The butterflies in your tummy, the subtle flirting, the uncertainty... the 'is he flirting with me?'... Urgh, I love it. And that's exactly what you get when Danny gets in touch with Liv.
I absolutely adore a book with great flirty text/email/Facebook exchanges. There's just something about it that gives me the warm and fuzzies. So I knew I was going to enjoy that part of Just Human.
This really is a whirlwind romance, written in alternating POVs. It all moves at rapid speed, but I think you need to remember that these are two not people who have only just met. They have a history. It's the only way these two know how to be with one another. It's natural and inevitable, and I think Kerry Heavens does a great job of illustrating that, despite the crazy fast pace that this relationship move at.
I really thought that this was a simple, sweet romance, with a good sprinkling of steam... and then came the ending. Aaah... things started going a little pear shaped and I suddenly realised that there weren't enough pages left for the characters to sort themselves out. I hate it when that happens! *sad face*
Despite the cliffhanger ending, this is a nice, easy read. Childhood sweethearts, second chances and lifetime loves. I'm really looking forward to reading the next instalment, as these characters are so likeable, you can't help but root for them.

Just human is enjoyable second chance romance that will capture your attention and warm your heart. It’s really realistc story, that can happen to all of us and that makes it even more enchanting read.

Just Human plot is really simple, but in a way it makes it better. Reading it is like living Liv’s life for a little while. You can’t help but wonder about your first teenage love. Keary Heavens created funny, sweet and heart warming novel mixed with great steaminess. I can highly recommend it for fans of Second Chance Stories who won’t be disappointed by it.

I am on such a book high, I could scream!!! Who knew a book I accidentally picked would end up turning me into a hermit for two days and then rocking my world to a point where I have no desire to start another?! This story was everything I seek, need, hope to find in a romance book, and then some. A modern fairy-tale of second chances at love, of true love surviving time, distance, life – from the very first page I was hopelessly captivated and unable to step away.
Liv is a modern-day independent woman. A self-made entrepreneur, she spends her days working at her diner/bar, successful in her business venture but struggling to achieve any real work/life separation. When her latest relationship fails due to infidelity, Liv finds herself wishing for a change, aware that something is painfully lacking in her love life, but unable to pinpoint the missing piece. And then one day, her childhood sweetheart, the only man she has ever loved, contacts her by email and everything changes.
“Looking back, and comparing that innocent love to my relationships since, it still feels like the only real love I’ve ever experienced.”
Danny has loved Liv since he was six years old. Inseparable from the moment they met, best friends at first, they were each other’s first love, but also each other’s first and only heartbreak. Told from both points of view, we get to see almost every scene from Liv and Danny’s eyes, giving us unique insight into both characters, knowing what they are feeling, thinking, stressing over, this only adding a further layer of intensity to already deeply emotionally charged scenes. This is not a story where the reader takes sides, there is no right or wrong in this scenario – we fall in love equally with both Liv and Danny, understanding what is in both their hearts and seeing where their actions stem from. As we watch them make up for lost time, we cannot help but feel every emotion, every beautiful nuance of their newly found-again love as time goes by, and we love every poignant moment of it.

Even though I am normally not a fan of social media references in contemporary literature, in this book they are utilised to aid the plotline, sparingly but purposefully, and they fit the story brilliantly. I won’t lie to you, this book ends with a dreadful cliffhanger, one that would have made me break something had I not had the sequel readily available to me. But I honestly feel that sometimes you need to fall before you can fly, and that only a storm could force Liv and Danny to let go of their past.

Just Human by Kerry Heavens
4 stars!!
“There has been something missing in my life ever since that day and last week, for the first time in twelve years, something changed. The missing piece came into view and I had to come see if I could put myself back together.”
I love second chance romance and I love friends to lovers and this had both!! So I was extremely spoilt!! This is another debut author who has done an amazing job for a first book. I was engrossed from start to finish which is no mean feat.
Liv and Danny were best friends as children, in fact they became inseparable, Danny had come over from the USA when he was six years old and moved in a few doors down from Liv. His dad was British and his mum was American. His mum was a high flyer in her field and had come over to the UK to head up the UK side of the company. They met at school, Liv attached herself to Danny (he had no choice) and over 80’s movies they gelled. At the grand old age of 15, they realised their feelings ran deeper than best friends and they moved onto the next level. Not only were they lovers and best friends but they were also soul mates. When they were eighteen Danny’s mum had to head over back to the USA, she had done so well in the UK they wanted her to go back and start something else, Danny had a choice to make, stay in the UK or head back to the USA with his parents. Liv didn’t want to seem like the clingy girlfriend and encouraged him to go, Danny not wanting to be the clingy boyfriend didn’t want to let her know he wanted to stay without her asking him to…and so the lack of communication begins!! Danny goes to America.
12 years later and a string of unsuccessful relationships between them and a meddling Aunt, Facebook brings the two together! Liv’s Aunt, after witnessing Liv’s latest relationship fall apart, decides to intervene and sends Danny a message through Facebook. She knows that the reason Liv cannot hold a relationship is because she still loves Danny. No man has ever matched up to him and they pale in significance. Unbeknown to her, Danny is in the same boat, he still misses Liv and she is the only girl that he has ever loved. As both never told each other how they felt at the time Danny left they both feel that the other broke their heart. After much soul searching and help from a close friend Danny decides to take a leap of faith and messages Liv….and so the story begins!!
I won’t go into any more detail so as not to spoil it, but will say this…their lack of communication continues which was extremely frustrating at times. Although without it, this couple just wouldn’t be the same. There are ups and down’s and it does end on a bit of a cliffie but the next instalment is out in about 6 weeks so not too long to wait.
Liv is a great girl, she is a successful bar/restaurant owner, but the downside is she works and works and works and is totally married to the job. She has tattoos and piercings but they all mean something. It was refreshing to get the tatted girl rather than the usual tatted bad boys that we are used to.
Danny is also successful, he works from home designing computer programmes for others, he also works all the hours and is often a hermit, he has casual hook ups but has had nothing serious. With encouragement from his BFF Jen, he makes the first move and messages Liv. Danny was just perfect, he was totally adorable and was big on the grand gestures, his only pit fall….lack of communication.
Their relationship does hit the ground running but you have to bear in mind their past history, there is no taking it slow, they have been there and done that before. This book is very HOT!! It is an adult book, they are 30, they are mature and they do get it on a lot!! Kerry can write a great sex scene too!! You could feel how much they loved each other and you were willing them along.
I loved both their BFF’s Danny has Jen and Liv has her gay BFF Max. Everyone needs BFF’s like those two. This book is littered with humour and as it is set in the UK I could relate a lot. As Danny is American there are also parts that our US friends can relate to as well!! I loved the Facebook message interactions between the two, you can so see this happening in real life and using social media is just so apt now in the society that we live in, it was real, it made it all the more believable!
I loved this book, even though it frustrated the hell out of me at times, but that is a sign of a good book. If it makes you “feel” then the author is getting through to you! I love these two as a couple and I cannot wait to read about them going forward, I just hope that they get their HEA, after everything they have been through, they deserve it.
Bring on book 2, I need it!!

I am so happy to be a part of this Blog Tour for Kerry Heavens’ debut novel Just Human. Not only because Kerry is someone I became friends with over Twitter a while ago, but because this book is truly a terrific read and definitely one you need to look out for. I’m not gonna lie . . . As I was reading I was really surprised at just how good it was and I kept thinking “Wow! I can’t believe Kerry actually wrote this!!!”
So we have Danny and Liv. Childhood sweethearts that got separated by the ocean when Danny had to move from England to America with his family. They both thought the other didn’t love them enough because they never put up a fight for their relationship. They lost contact but after twelve years of failed romances they are reunited. And this is where the story really begins. Told mostly in Liv’s POV with Danny’s POV thrown in occasionally to strengthen the story, Just Human sucks you in, takes hold, and won’t let go.
This was really, honest to God a great book. I was drawn in from the start with Kerry’s writing and the characters she created. They were fun and witty, with big hearts and I found myself really wanting to get to know them. Connie – Liv’s great aunt – was one of my favourite characters! I thought she was a really wise old lady and she seemed like so much fun! I had a sneaking suspicion that she was up to something and I loved that I was right! She was so cool and I really hope we get to hear more from her in book #2.
I loved Jen and Max as Danny and Liv’s BFFs but to me it really was all about the two main characters. Usually in books it’s the guy that’s covered in tattoos and the girl has “pure” skin, but it was the other way around in this book. Liv had loads of tattoos and (being tattooed myself) I thought that was great. There’s on specific tattoo mentioned that has a really moving story about it and I went a little mushy when I read that bit and even though it was only talked about briefly, it’s really stuck in my head. She wasn’t a whiney, annoying female main character either. She was strong and spunky and really in control of her life.
Then we have Danny. Oh my. Swoon!! He has the looks and the charm in abundance and he sure knows how to make a girl go weak at the knees! He was so dreamy and so dirty!! This book is HOT! Kerry sure knows how to write the sexy stuff. There was a lot of fanning going on while reading this. Another thing that surprised me . . . Danny’s POV was fantastic! Kerry certainly has no problem writing for either sex. I really don’t think it’s possible to read this book and not fall in love with Danny, so I hope we get to hear even more from him in book #2.
One thing that some people might not enjoy – it’s a cliffhanger. Though I will say that I don’t think it’s a MAJOR cliffhanger. But things aren’t sunshine and roses at the end for the characters. Overall this book was absolutely awesome! I couldn’t put it down and read it one day, only stopping to hydrate. There were plenty of laughs, steamy moments and throughout the majority of the book I had a smile on my face as I read it. This book is definitely worth it’s 5 Stars! Well done Kerry Heavens. I anxiously await Still Human – out in Autumn/Fall.

3.5 stars. It was a nice but pretty uneventful romance for a good 95% of the book. If I had read this book a year ago, I probably would have given it 5 stars. Now, I am always looking for a twist in the plot. I also like elements of surprise in my stories. Book 1 does end in a cliff that is totally predictable and it makes me want to smack both Liv and Danny. It's what happens when one withholds information for too long and the other jumps to conclusions too fast. I will read book 2 just to see how things play out. Their chemistry is amazing! Danny kept me reading, he is swoon worthy and I did like Liv most of the time...but overall is was just 'eh' for me.

All right so here is the deal. The ending of this booked left me wretched! I mean come on...Really?!? However in saying that- this book should be on your TBR list. You need to take the time to fall in love with this fabulous story!
Liv is fabulous. She is a funny, take charge gal. She is successful in life. Runs a great business. Has great friends - Max is absolutely fab! The one place she is lacking - love! Her love life is awful. Loser guys, never feel the void in her heart. Problem is she gave her heart away years ago and never got it back.

Kerry Heavens you have a new fan. I enjoyed the banter. I enjoyed the doubt even. It was relatable and I was swept into the story. Max and Jen- omg! What kind of person does not need BFF's like this?! I want to know more about them too. However, as stated before... Wretched! That Cliffy is one that breaks hearts and leaves them open! Book two cannot and I repeat cannot get here fast enough. Need more Danny and Liv- stat!

I first read Just Human on holiday in France August 2013. It was my book of the holiday - and that is praise indeed. I also read Sylvain Reynard's Gabriel books, Nicole Edwards Zane and Kaleb, some Abbie Glines. Anyway something about Just Human clicked.
May be it was the sweet, first love of Danny and Liv when they were young. I can still remember that awful feeling when young love ends and you feel like you stomach has been scooped out by a big melon baller.
May be it was the movie references that were a huge part of my teenage years. Dirty dancing and Cocktail were my staples. The ends of laces on shoes really are called flugelbinders - well to me they are.
May be it was the hot, perfect sex. And it wasn't over stated i.e they don't shag 5 times in one night. What you get is true love sex.
It could have been the way Kerry Heavens created such fab characters. I would love to have Liv, Danny, Max, Charlie, Jen and Scott as my buddies, they all seem so real. Neither Danny or Liv have baggage other than the way they were pulled apart by his move to the US.
It could have been the way Kerry Heavens gives great visuals of the places. I see the tree in my head. I want to go in Lady Lucks and have a Mexican sharing platter washed down with a soda served to me by a jerk.
It could be that, I felt every bit of emotion, from the highs to the crashing lows. I smiled with them, cried with them, probably wet my knickers especially the keep quiet scene at Liv's mum's.
You get the gist. I love it. I have recommended it to loads of my friends and am now the very, very proud owner of signed copies.

I really was bored with this book by 60%, but decided to plow through since it was an easy read and I figured I would see how it ended. However, NOTHING happens until 95% into the book and then it is a cliffhanger. I hate this new style of books being shoved out onto the market. Nothing happens in the first book, but you invest in the characters and then you have to read the second book. I will not be reading the next one, because I barely made it through this one. But you should know that if you start it, the cliffhanger is a doozy.
The book starts out from Liv's point of view. She is a 30 year old bar/diner owner that acts like a 15 year old when her ex comes back into her life. She makes mountains out of mole hills that were so small I didn't even realize he did or said anything wrong until she freaks out about what I thought was nothing. This goes on for 30% of the book.
Then the book is from Danny's point of view and it starts over from the beginning of the book again. His side adds nothing to the book except making it longer. And he comes off as so much of a girl you think you are reading her point of view all over again.
At this point I started to skim to get to the end and I wish I didn't, because nothing happens and I'm not buying the next book.
I think this book had great potential, but it was poorly done. And I don't know what happens in book 2, but it should have been wrapped up in one book.
I would have given it 2, maybe even 3 stars if it actually ended in book one.
And finally, lay off the exclamation points!

Finally got through this one. Took me a week which is insanely long for me on one average length read. Didn't like it as much as I thought I would, but I didn't hate it either. Seriously drug on in many places. I thought that the initial back and forth Facebook banter would last longer, kind of build the anticipation, but it ended reasonably quickly. And this was my favorite, and also, the most exciting aspect of the story. Just didn't feel that invested in Liv and Danny as a couple.
On the positives, they did have some sweet chemistry and their long lost love for each other was really beautiful. I loved the role reversal with Liv being the tatted up rebel and Danny growing up to be the more straight-laced of the pair.
I think if I would've read this one a year ago, it would've been a five star read for me but now, I need more in my love stories. I have been spoiled by some of the phenomenal books out there! Just needed....more....more issues, angst, something. I am not asking for drama for the sake of drama.....this just needed some more "oomph!!"
However, with all of that being said, I am immediately diving into book 2 after that major cliff hanger of an ending! Really people? COMMUNICATION!!!!! Look it up!! It was also totally predictable and you'll totally see it coming.

I've only read four chapters, and that's enough for me.
Not sure who this Kerry Heavens person is, but she is an absolutely horrible writer.
There was no depth to Just Human. There were clichés and stereotypes through all four chapters, I'd hate to imagine what the rest of the book is like. The writing is very poor, obnoxious and uneducated. The female lead was incredibly trite and dull as dirt, there was no characterisation whatsoever. The only thing I got from her character was that she was a senseless whore, that's about it. The dialogue was forced, unoriginal and extremely boring. But it was the distasteful sex scene that was completely unemotional, insignificant and ludicrous that really pushed my patience, and where I drew the line. I'm not wasting any more time on this book.
Books like this really frustrate me, because it is plainly obvious that the author is writing for superficial reasons and nothing more. If you want to take an idea that has been used countless times before (and not even a good one to begin with), if you want to write about characters that make the human population look ridiculous, if you want to create two lead characters that aren't inspirational but are actually derogatory, then be my guest, but you won't get any respect from me.
This is where I would spit on the book and happily watch it burn...if I wasn't reading off my laptop.

You know when you read a great book and then move onto your next read you have your expectations up and then you just get an "eh" feeling?
Yep, that happened with this. Perhaps I wasn't in the right state of mind to read this coming off the book high I had from my previous read.
This was just another book I can put in the category of "I didn't hate it but I didn't love it"

2.5 stars...just wasn't for me. I like characters that have darker back stories. I did like the reconnection on social media but I lost a connection to the story. And I didn't understand the retelling of some of the same scenes from Danny's POV. I already read it once so I don't need them revisited thru his POV. I am fine with dual POVs, just don't restate the same scenes with very little new information. This is just my review for the book. If you notice, there are plenty of 4/5 star reviews. SMIBookClub received the ARC of this in preparation of reading & reviewing Still Human but seeing as I had no connection to this one I don't plan on reading book 2. To each her own!

Nothing was happening. I mean nothing. I was so bored and didn't connect to either character. Their romance was dull and predictable. And really, a few messages on Facebook and a few days later and they are "in-love" again and picking up where they left off YEARS before? Nah, didn't buy it and thought it was too easy and boring. There needed to be more build up or conflict... or something interesting happening.
I may come back to this one later, but right now, I'm just not feeling this mushy read so it's a DNF for me.

I actually really enjoyed this book. I did find the characters to be really frustrating but it wasn't enough overly annoy me. There is a cliff at the end but book #2 is already on my kindle so it wasn't a big deal. Liv & Danny are very adorable together. I felt so bad for him at the end of the book. He's a "nice" guy. I'll take a nice guy over a bad boy any day. Liv and her insecurities tend to make her annoying but I still liked her. On to book #2.....

This book was not only lame and cliche but repetitious. Each conversation seemed to be repeated multiple times. The only decent part of this book was the sex. At the ending of this train wreck of a book it ends on a cliffhanger. Really? So not only did I waste my time and money in a ridiculous book but it had no ending. I didn't even realize this was a series..I'll be adding this writer to my "avoid" list.

I bought this book because it was cheap on amazon. I didn't know what to expect from it and none of my goodreads friends have read it.
At first I was a bit confused because it looked like it started in the middle of something and not at the beginning. But when I kept reading on everything fell into place.
I enjoyed the story line. Although everything was going to good for my liking. I knew I had to brace for something bad to happen. And it did with a huge Fucking cliffhanger.

Just Human is a book I let sit in my to-be-read pile for about a good month or so. I kept wanting to read it, and kept having other things crop up and didn't really have the chance to. So! A Sunday came around that I had free, and let me tell you, I took my Kindle, grabbed my cellphone and went and laid in the hammock. I spent all day in there, with a glass of sweet peach tea and Just Human. That alone may tell you how much I enjoyed this book, but the book itself? Oh my, Heavens. And yes, I mean Kerry Heavens, by that. ;) She has done it again, or I should say, before in this case, and written a book I am absolutely in love with.

Just Human is about Danny and Liv, these two grew up with each other as best friends from the young age of six, eventually fell in love and then moved apart due to circumstances they couldn't control. Or so they thought they couldn't. Each things they love the other more, that they other doesn't love them enough and so they have to let the past go. They have to move on. So that is what they do, they both try. Twelve years go by and they get in touch via Facebook. It's like nothing has changed for them, where they thought they were over each other, they are far from it.
The years and life experiences have changed each of them from the younger versions of themselves, but at core, they are still the same person the other one knew.
Danny is... goodness, he's a romantic. He left Liv behind, thinking he had to, thinking it was what she wanted. Nothing has ever really worked out for him relationship wise. Sure, he's had them, but they never seem to stick. Really though, I don't know what girl would not want this guy? He's intelligent, handsome, has made something of himself, sweet, caring, thoughtful. Yes, thoughtful sticks out to me a lot. Sure, he's a guys guy, but you actually see his softer side.
Liv used to be that shy, quiet girl, that wasn't loud but who literally loves movies and would lose herself in them. She's changed from that girl though, now she owns her on business, has piercings and tattoos and knows herself. She's had a lot thrown at her recently, including walking in on her live-in boyfriend with another female... in her bed. So when Danny gets in contact with her, she's just has her trust shaken. Liv's never stopped loving Danny, but she's sure he never loved her as much. He didn't try to stay, and he didn't ask her to go with him. So she's spent a long time trying to move. She too, has had relationships, but for her as well, they never seem to work out, and something is always missing.
Before you know it, and these two are back in each others lives, hoping to make this work out. Neither is sure where this is going to go, so they plan to take it slowly. They take into account the living situations and what it would take to be together again. What they aren't prepared for, is Danny's "ex", and I call her that in loose terms. I have one term for Brooke (the ex) and that is stalkerazzi. Mmm'hmm.
I'm not about to tell you what happens here though, and spoil the story for you. You'll have to read Just Human and find out. It's completely worth it! You do actually need to read Still Human, to find out the rest of the story for Danny and Liv, and I'll be doing that as soon as I'm able. This -is- a bit of a cliff hanger, but thankfully, Still Human is already out! These two characters have hooked me and I'm just hoping for an HEA for them.

First of all, I want to say that Kerry hit the nail on the freaking head when it comes to how the female mind reacts to messaging back and forth to a male of interest. Couldn't have done that part better myself if I even tried.
With that said, there are tons of other things that Kerry brilliantly wrote in this book. The well developed, (and very well liked)characters have a history and a love that (eventually) crosses an ocean and countries. The sexiness and sweetness that becomes Liv & Danny's relationship ends up being a beautiful story all the way up to a nail biting ending.
Speaking of said ending....I need Still Human as much as I need my next breath. You will too, once you finish this fabulous read. :)

A well deserved 5 stars. A lovely read set in the real world not cloud cuckoo land. This is the story of Liv and Danny who were childhood beat friends then sweethearts. Excuse me. Give me a moment. I'm still reeling from the ending of the book.
Ok. I'm ok now. Maybe.
Liv and Danny were childhood best friends. As they grew, their friendship developed into something more. Love? Maybe, but they were just teenagers, and before they could really see where things were going, Danny's family moves back to the U.S.
They both decide that the long distance thing isn't going to work and that it's best that they go their separate ways. I mean, they're 17 years old, too young to settle down, so they live their lives without each other.
12 years later, Liv is running her diner and bar when she catches her boyfriend cheating on her. She realizes that she's been in relationship after relationship and has never lived it up. She's constantly getting hurt and decides to take a break from relationships and just live life. Liv is just tired of getting hurt.
"I have been cheated on twice, stolen from and I didn't even trust my own father. I'm not a girl who believes in happily ever after."
One day, Danny randomly messages her on Facebook. She is completely caught off guard, especially since he never tried to keep in contact after he moved away. Liv never really got over Danny and is brought back to that magical time when they were together and everything was right.
They exchange messages and occasionally flirt online. The chemistry is still there and she realizes she may still have feelings for him. He was her first love and she realizes that she never truly loved after he left. She was fine without him for 12 years, but then again, maybe she wasn't.
"He is the only guy who has never done a number on me. My main fear is that if he is no longer a myth, he's here, then he might let me down too."
They end up meeting in person, and I'm pretty sure I fist pumped when they first see each other. I was a giddy little school girl. If it wasn't 2am and I wasn't laying in bed with hubby, I might have squeeeeeed and jumped up on the bed.
Danny and Liv pick up right where they left off and are trying to decide what to make of this reunion.
"I never truly loved anyway. I see now that you are the only person I've truly loved and while losing you broke my heart, you never actually hurt me. You left, but that wasn't your fault. So you've stayed perfect in my memory. I guess my fear is, if I let myself love you, you might turn out to be just human. And if you're just human, you could easily hurt me too, I couldn't survive being hurt by you Danny."
If you've read my reviews, I love books from different POVs. This book switches between Liv's POV and Danny's POV, and I love being able to see how both of them are feeling. It makes the highs awesome and when you hit a low, you want to bury your face in a pillow and cry.

Liv is a strong, independent woman who's suffered from the battlefield we call love. We've all been hurt at some point and she goes into survival mode after she's been hurt again. It's something we've all been through and you can feel her pain.
Danny is a sweetheart. And not in a sickeningly, annoying way. Some books paint the male characters in a totally unrealistic way. Most guys are not as romantic as some books make them out to be. Danny is sweet, but not in a cheesy/corny way.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are real and totally relatable. I find a lot of characters to be unrealistic in how they think and live their lives. I could definitely see Liv and Danny existing in real life.
Fair warning though, this book ends in a cliffhanger.

You know the panic that sets in when you look at your Kindle and it's at 98% and some serious shit is going down? Yea, I was definitely panicking. That being said, Kerry Heavens needs to release the second book in the series ASAP!
I'm a bit of a masochist when it comes to cliffhangers. I say I hate them, but I think I secretly love them. Being able to let your imagination run wild to see how you think the story will end, how you want the story to end and how you definitely don't want a story to end. It's pretty fun...if you like torturing yourself. Which apparently I do.

Liv and Danny were childhood best friends. As they grew, their friendship developed into something more. Love? Maybe, but they were just teenagers, and before they could really see where things were going, Danny's family moves back to the U.S.
They both decide that the long distance thing isn't going to work and that it's best that they go their separate ways. I mean, they're 17 years old, too young to settle down, so they live their lives without each other.
12 years later, Liv is running her diner and bar when she catches her boyfriend cheating on her. She realizes that she's been in relationship after relationship and has never lived it up. She's constantly getting hurt and decides to take a break from relationships and just live life. Liv is just tired of getting hurt.
"I have been cheated on twice, stolen from and I didn't even trust my own father. I'm not a girl who believes in happily ever after."
One day, Danny randomly messages her on Facebook. She is completely caught off guard, especially since he never tried to keep in contact after he moved away. Liv never really got over Danny and is brought back to that magical time when they were together and everything was right.
They exchange messages and occasionally flirt online. The chemistry is still there and she realizes she may still have feelings for him. He was her first love and she realizes that she never truly loved after he left. She was fine without him for 12 years, but then again, maybe she wasn't.
"He is the only guy who has never done a number on me. My main fear is that if he is no longer a myth, he's here, then he might let me down too."
They end up meeting in person, and I'm pretty sure I fist pumped when they first see each other. I was a giddy little school girl. If it wasn't 2am and I wasn't laying in bed with hubby, I might have squeeeeeed and jumped up on the bed.
Danny and Liv pick up right where they left off and are trying to decide what to make of this reunion.
"I never truly loved anyway. I see now that you are the only person I've truly loved and while losing you broke my heart, you never actually hurt me. You left, but that wasn't your fault. So you've stayed perfect in my memory. I guess my fear is, if I let myself love you, you might turn out to be just human. And if you're just human, you could easily hurt me too, I couldn't survive being hurt by you Danny."
If you've read my reviews, I love books from different POVs. This book switches between Liv's POV and Danny's POV, and I love being able to see how both of them are feeling. It makes the highs awesome and when you hit a low, you want to bury your face in a pillow and cry.
"I love you too I think, more than you'll ever know."
Liv is a strong, independent woman who's suffered from the battlefield we call love. We've all been hurt at some point and she goes into survival mode after she's been hurt again. It's something we've all been through and you can feel her pain.
Danny is a sweetheart. And not in a sickeningly, annoying way. Some books paint the male characters in a totally unrealistic way. Most guys are not as romantic as some books make them out to be. Danny is sweet, but not in a cheesy/corny way.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are real and totally relatable. I find a lot of characters to be unrealistic in how they think and live their lives. I could definitely see Liv and Danny existing in real life.
Fair warning though, this book ends in a cliffhanger.
Have you ever read a book where you are nearing the end but you are nowhere near a solution? You know the panic that sets in when you look at your Kindle and it's at 98% and some serious shit is going down? Yea, I was definitely panicking. That being said, Kerry Heavens needs to release the second book in the series ASAP!
I'm a bit of a masochist when it comes to cliffhangers. I say I hate them, but I think I secretly love them. Being able to let your imagination run wild to see how you think the story will end, how you want the story to end and how you definitely don't want a story to end. It's pretty fun...if you like torturing yourself. Which apparently I do.
It's a story about second chances. Should we take them? Or are things better if they are left in the past?

Just Human by Kerry Heavens is an adorable read about childhood sweetheart hearts reconnecting 12 years later. I am such a sucker for falling in love with the boy next-door romances. They are my weakness!
It took me a chapter or two to get attached to the story and the character of Liv. Once I was able to get to know Liv more I fell in love with her adorable personality and strong will. I was sucked into the story and couldn’t put it down.
The book starts with Liv catching her boyfriend cheating on but doesn’t let it get to her. She hasn’t really loved a man since her first love Danny. She continues to work at the bar & diner she owns in England as if nothing happened. Out of the blue Liv gets a Facebook message from Danny, her only true love. Danny was an American boy who moved to England when he was six and became best friends with Liv. Once they were in high school they moved on from friends to lovers and were head over heels in love with each other. Danny and his family moved back to the United States when he was 18 and the two broke up… never seeing each other or speaking to one another again…. until now.
Danny and Liv instantly reconnect and Danny does one of THE MOST romantic things EVER in the history of books. Totally swoon worthy ladies… if a guy did what he did, I would never let him go. Danny and Liv reconnect on Facebook. I loved reading their back and forth messages; it was super cute and felt really realistic how they felt and what they said. They are both insecure about being in contact again and re-starting their relationship; Danny lives in Los Angeles and Liv lives in England, their problem is still distance. Their relationship seems perfect… but right when everything seems perfect it comes crashing down.
“Listen, here is what I know. Nothing went wrong between us, just circumstances tore us apart. If I hadn’t left, who knows, we might still be together. I’ve tried very hard since then, to not hold everything up against what we had, but it’s impossible. There has been something missing in my life ever since that day and last week, for the first time in twelve years, something changed. The missing piece came into view and I had to come see if I could put myself back together.” – Danny
I absolutely LOVE these two characters. You can just FEEL the love between the two and Danny is P-E-R-F-E-T! He is handsome, successful, caring, thoughtful, and so LOVING. I like that Liv is the tattooed, pierced one while Danny is more of the preppy, straight-laced character. It was a nice little switch when most books are the opposite.
The book is told in dual point of views of Danny & Liv. What was really unique is the author rewrites many scenes in both POV’s so you read the same scene twice, but you get the view of both characters. I really enjoyed it and never felt like it was the same; they both keep so much bottled in within themselves it was important to know what they were thinking or feeling during those important moments. Especially since their problem from the moment Danny learns he is moving back to America 12 years ago is COMMUNICATION! If they would both just TALK and say what they REALLY feel and want they may have not been separated for the past 12 years and the conflict they are facing today could be avoided.
The ending does leave on a cliff hanger. Just Human is for the most part drama free right up until the end when their perfect world comes crashing down. I have heard the second novel, Still Human is amazing… I cannot wait to dive into that book next!
Just Human is a great set up and introduces the readers to all the history of Liv and Danny. I felt really connected to both characters and understand their relationship completely. There are some steamy scenes between the two. By the end of the book you will be cheering for Liv & Danny to be able to get their act together and have a Happily Ever After. I am really excited to start book 2, Still Human and fall in love with Danny again. I can’t wait to see what romantic things he has planned for Liv this time!
