Please be aware: this is book three of a three-book series. They must be read in order. This series contains BDSM fear play and sexual practices that may offend sensitive readers.
Deliciously dark, deceptively dangerous…
Businessman Caleb Blackthorne has it all; looks, money, power, but he’s also a high-priced Dom, an extracurricular profession he must keep hidden. When one of his secret clients has a very public meltdown, Caleb retreats, suffering without an outlet for his rough needs. At the darkest moment, a man makes him a surprising offer: complete submission at any price Caleb demands.
Desperate to hire the Dom of his dreams, self-made billionaire Oliver Carrington offers himself without reservation: no safeword, no restrictions, no limits. Despite the dangers, or perhaps because of them, Oliver reaches levels of ecstasy he’s never known and finds freedom from a past that has haunted his every step.
But as Oliver’s need for ever-more intense fear play grows, Caleb’s interest turns from professional to personal, heightening the danger of discovery. For one of them, exposure means nothing; for the other, it could mean the loss of everything—a possibility that only makes their risky liaisons all the more exhilarating.
The last thing either man expected was to fall in love…
When he’s not plotting world domination, Bruce Rose is usually plotting gay romance novels. If he’s not writing hot man-on-man action, you might find him trying out new recipes, listening to old 80s rock, or putting his Star Wars action figures into provocative poses.

I bet Bruce must have one of those machines that are mentioned in these novels in his dungeon under his basement. I wonder if he wears manties at home too? 😂👏 Just kidding! 😜 For the novel, I’d say that’s the best HEA for these two lovers and Caleb and Oliver absolutely deserve it. 😍
So our expo Virgin Oliver is now in the middle of a room filled with people wearing slave collars, leather chaps and manties! And these two discovered a sex machine there. And as usual, our devilish Caleb convinced Oliver to put on a public show demonstrating that sex machine. 😁 And boy boy boy, was that hot! 😋 I wish I could witness these two putting on a show and have a front row seat. But everything is not roses and candles between these two lovers. From a role play gone wrong, Caleb realized that he indeed crossed a line this time. And consoling Oliver led to them kissing and making love for the first time. Caleb had never kissed anyone in his life before except for one time when he was a teen. Kissing Oliver on the lips means Oliver now holds his heart. ❤️ But Caleb has commitment issues and Oliver is an all or nothing guy. And just in the blink of an eye, making love and cuddling on the bed turned out to be the reason for an ugly breakup between these two. Our meek Sub is not so meek at all. He had decided to man up and demand what he wants and it led to the end of everything between them. 💔 So are they really going separate ways? Or will there be a silver lining for them in the end? 😌
I’m not going to lie. I’m a bit frustrated with Oliver in this book. 😒 He’s so impulsive and emotional and impatient. Just after Caleb gave him his heart, he decided to end things between them? That bratty slut. 🙄 He needs a serious spanking. 😂 Despite from that angst, this book was really interesting and fascinating. We learned about so many untold mysteries from previous books. I’m glad that both of them realized that they really can’t live without each other. The reconciliation was epic and I absolutely adored Caleb the macho pirate. 😁😍 The ending couldn’t be better. Kidnapping and pirates in one go? I wanna be kidnapped too! 😉 It was absolutely funny and heartwarming. And the ending was just sweet and beautiful. I wish we’d get a follow-up in the future. I wouldn’t mind reading a spin-off or a novella of these two. I’m really interested about Oliver’s assistant. It’d be nice to read a story of him with a GFY theme. 😁 Loved it. This is an extremely well written and enjoyable series. Well done, Bruce! 👏
Favorite excerpts from the novel: 💙
Oliver had never felt special in the eyes of another until now. To Caleb, he was worthy. And he was worth being cherished. The pain of the past fell away and Oliver opened himself up, truly ready to face the future, to feel the possession of this man.
Instead of looking cowed, he looked defiant. And in that moment, Caleb realized why he would never really be able to let go of Oliver Carrington. He loved him.
“Now be a good first mate and give the captain a blowjob.” “I don’t think that’s pirate talk.” “Avast, ye matey, polish my steel or I’ll make you walk the plank.” “Aye, aye, Captain.”
With the sea breeze in his face, the wind in his hair, and the mouth of the man he loved wrapped around his cock, Caleb decided that, yes, this was the life.
13 April One of my favorite series, a re-read was calling my name lol.
my original review I have enjoyed this series so much! I loved how gradual this story progressed, how the relationships grow and change - little factors which come back into play and pull everything together. Very clever.
The author has a very unique writing style, it's clever and witty and he injects humor and love into the characters - it has been an absolute pleasure to read. No stopping, I'm moving on to Curious Heat, that looks like a good series.
I received a copy of this book from the author for my review
Oliver is a very confident and prolific business man, making himself billionaire. But when it comes to this private life, he’s totally shy and struggles to give in to his urges as a gay submissive. Until he decides to give free reins to Caleb, a Dom, who, despite embracing his lifestyle in the inner BDSM circles, is very discreet in his public life, for fear to lose his inheritance. Both have to fight their demons while going through their “arrangement” and facing blackmail and manipulation from their circles.
I really enjoyed the characters, even the plot (but for its ending that was a bit of a letdown for me). However, BDSM is not my trope for most of the times, I can’t relate to the relationship and not at ease with the scenes. And this book didn’t fall in my “exception” list.
Did I love this trilogy ? No. But I can’t say either that I didn’t like it, if it makes sense. I still give it 3 stars because of the characters and the explanations of how Caleb set up the “fear-play” scenes.
Rating/reivew is for the series as a whole, rather than the individual books.
There is nothing that'll get my heart thumping and my pulse racing like a good D/s story. Toss in a bit of humiliation, some hot BDSM, and a bit of good old fashioned psychological fuckery and you've got me hook, line, and sinker. This series brings it in fucking spades! The slowly building dynamic between the two main characters, Caleb and Oliver, is a truly beautiful thing to witness. Add in all of the above deviance, and I couldn't flip the pages of my e-reader fast enough. Well done indeed, Mr. Rose!
4.5 stars. Overall, I really enjoyed this series and recommend it to anyone who likes reading D/s stories. This one is a little different than most I've read, in a good way.
This 3-book series by a new-to-me author was a pleasant surprise, and the journey of self-awareness and growth that Caleb and Oliver shared made for an enjoyable read. Both men in their forties, both men toting some major luggage, and both wondering if they could handle something beyond casual sex and kink. It just took a bit of time before they came to the realization that what they really wanted (needed) was something deeper than a no-strings-attached D/s relationship. (Too bad the very idea of such a thing scared the crap out of them both.) They just needed to be willing to take a chance, drop off some baggage, shed their masks and let go of their self-defense mechanisms, enabling them to see one another more clearly. I was appreciative of the slow-burn chemistry between the two men, and the manner in which Caleb wielded his control over Oliver was fascinating. Definitely interested in reading more books by this author.
That was perfect. I stayed up way past my bedtime just to finish this because I couldn’t not. The suspense, the intrigue, the scenes. I loved all of it.
Highly recommend. Seriously. Read the trilogy. You won’t regret it.
WOW! What an absolutely brilliant series this has been! From page one of book one I was hooked. I loved the chemistry between Caleb and Oliver, the mystery of how things would progress between them with none of the usual limits within a D/s relationship and then the mystery of who was trying to out them both! This, the final book, really did wrap things up nicely and left all questions I had answered. Absolutely fantastic!!
Really enjoyed this series that had it's ups and downs but ends on a solid HFN note. Oliver and Caleb had quite a few things to work out, but their chemistry was never in question. Once they got past the other parts of their lives that were giving them trouble, everything seemed to fall into place for them. This was well written and interesting with a few twists here and there and one that shows a bit of a different side of kink. Definitely recommend.
This is the last book in the series, but it should be read as one book, as each ended in a cliffhanger leading to the next book.
In book 3, all came to a neat end, all loose threads were deftly weaved into a satisfied ending. Caleb and Oliver worked hard for their HEA, there were character development a plenty, and I was so rooting for them. As a bonus, there is some red hot scenes, but also a sense of love and respect for each other, and that is my catnip.
Well I couldn't wait to finish the series, l was rooting for Caleb & Oliver!
If you are looking for a dirty dirty dirty story then read these three books, Caleb has a dirty mouth & a wicked imagination.. Oliver was a VERY LUCKY boy.. *sighs*
Now to start with Bruce's (God this sounds kinky) back catalogue...
This series has held my attention from page one. Watching the relationship grow between Oliver and Caleb was very well done. The mystery that was interwoven in the series didn't overwhelm the books. In book 3 everything has been answered and wrapped up nicely. Great job! Off to find more from this author!
Whoops! I keep forgetting to add: I received an ARC copy from the author with no expectation, for free. I am reviewing the book as I do for every book.
This was the final book of the trilogy and although I had some quibbles it was a satisfactory conclusion. This part was a lot more about the scenes between Oliver and Caleb, as well as their growing connection. One thing I enjoyed was the way Bruce used the alternating POV's to convey the impact of that particular type of play. Reading about Oliver's thoughts and reactions and then finding out how Caleb set up and manipulated the scene, as well as Oliver's mind, was pretty fascinating to me. It won't exactly be a favorite kink to read about since is was nearly as brutal at times than physical acts can be. I did like it when Caleb realized he took things a little to far and admitted it to Oliver and talked about it. He's far from a perfect Dom but not careless either.
There were points where the relationship issues became kind of confusing. It gave me a little whiplash at times, as each character said and did one thing and went back and forth and made things feel rushed. But as Bruce reminds us, this is not meant to precisely parallel real life! I wasn't entirely happy with the conclusion of the blackmail/conspiracy plot against Caleb either. It seemed a bit too convoluted but it did make sense in resolving it. I guess I was hoping for something more exciting. But the epilogue was fun and sweet without getting overly sappy, with a satisfying HEA.
It's not a story for those who dislike a lot of sex scenes in a book or those who like a strict protocol with their fictional BDSM. It should make BDSM afficianados pleased with a somewhat different type of play and detail of the process. It's moderate BDSM in my opinion. Quite enjoyable!
This entire series was a joy to read. I am so glad that Oliver got his shit together and Caleb decided to stop being an asshole about his family situation.
