***To date, I can't say enough good things about this book. A perfect way to find talented authors!!***

Scandalous Wife by Ava Stone
Five long years. That’s how long Lady Lydia Beckford has been banished to the country estate of her husband. A husband she was given no choice but to wed because of a youthful indiscretion. Well, she’s had enough & arrives in London to stay with her cousins. When she comes face to face with her husband she informs him that she is no longer following his rules.
Robert Beckworth, Earl of Masten, has a wife. A wife that he had no choice but to marry to keep scandal away from the family name. A wife he neither wants nor desires. He’s been fine with her at his country estate & he living in London. Until he spots a stunning creature entering his sister’s ball. Shocked that this stunning creature is his wife. Furious that she is in London. When she faces him & informs him she is no longer following his rules a challenge has been issued.
Robert plots a way to return his wife to the country before she can create a scandal. A plot that will keep her in close proximity until she is with child where he will then send her back to his country estate. Lydia wonders if she can go through with this plan of Robert’s. After all a child of her own will make the country less lonely. That is if he will let her keep the child – the question is will he?
As Robert learns about Lydia’s past will it change his opinion of her? Will seeing a different side of Robert break down the hatred Lydia has for the way he’s treated her in the past? Can either one of them go through with Robert’s plan without having their heart broken?
Ava Stone has written a wonderful story of 2 strangers thrown together because of an indiscretion. A pair of orphans & knitting needles will have you laughing. Just beware Robert will have you wanting to smack his head for being a pompous jerk then falling in love with him yourself.
Scandalous Endeavors by Amanda Mariel
She’s just buried her father & learned she must accompany her uncle to live in America until she is of age…what’s Amelia to do? Why compromise an English gentleman of course so he’ll have to marry her where she can stay in her beloved England. With the help of her best friend & a dear family friend Amelia comes up with the perfect plan & the perfect English lord. Now if only things go as planned.
Amanda Mariel writes a sweet tale of a young lady’s determination to stay in the country she loves & the hilarious things that can go wrong with a “perfect” plan. You will find yourself routing for Amelia, scolding her & at times just shaking your head with it seems that anything that could possibly go wrong does & how the effect of that just makes Amelia more determined. Now happily wondering what exploits will be told he Ms. Mariel’s next book – Scandalous Intentions.
To Walk In the Sun by Jane Charles
He avoids daylight, visiting his wife’s grave only in the dead of night & never socializes with the townspeople. Add the book, Wake Not the Dead, and Vincent Latimer, Viscount Atwood, has been label a vampire. Of course he does nothing to dissuade the rumors; after all he prefers to be left alone with his guilt over his wife’s death. But then no one has ever asked how he is or why he avoids daylight.
Tess Crawford took a position as a teacher at her former school, Wiggons School for Elegant Ladies after the death of her uncle who was her guardian after her parent’s death many years ago. The only people to know the real reason she came back is the headmistress & 2 of the younger teachers who have become her best friends.
Catching 3 precarious students reading Wake Not the Dead, Tess does her best to scare some sense into the girls. After all she has told them many times that book is not suitable for them to read & is complete fiction. Unfortunately the girls have it in their head that Viscount Atwood is a vampire living in their mist & is trying to waken his dead wife. After chastising them yet again & sending them to their respective rooms, Tess knows she won’t be able to sleep for the nightmares of her past. She has long gotten into the habit of walking in the late evenings to clear her head.
This particular night is not a good night to be out as a storm hits the area with a vengeance. Fate has Vincent in the same area as Tess when the storm hits & drags her to safety inside his family crypt. The storm has wrought devastation to the school & through a series of conversations Vincent reluctantly agrees to house the students & their teachers until the school can be rebuilt – with stipulations.
Three headstrong girls who believe he’s a vampire, the mutual attraction between Tess & Vincent, Tess’ secret past, a villain from Vincent’s past & pieces of a treasure map…what could possibly go wrong?
Jane Charles writes a touching story of how 2 people, who have been dealt bad situations in their life, find & help one another to heal. Add the above scenarios & it becomes a lively, entertaining story with a hint of gothic to it. Definitely a must read & am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Shunned No More by Christina McKnight - The toast of society, Viola is enjoying her meteoric success until all her hopes are shattered at the hands of a duel that proves deadly. It's hard to forgive yourself when the blame continues to come from others as well. Now she has to contend with a broken heart, a guilty conscience and a sexy but vengeful Earl. Shunned No More shows that even in one's darkest hour there is always hope. Learning is a task never outgrown and forgiveness can prove a balm for the soul. Ms. McKnight tackles the benefits of having an open heart and a compassionate spirit while rebuilding trust and finding hope.

The Trouble with Being Wicked by Emma Locke - Celeste and Ash are trying to escape the shadows of the past. Ash came across as a jerk more than a gentleman quite often in this story. The main reason, he felt there was something flawed inside of his makeup that he needed to purge. Celeste wants more than the notoriety of her former profession. She wants to live and exist in a place where she can be known as her true self not just a name. She decides to make a fresh start hoping to find all she seeks and succeeds until her past comes back to haunt her. The Trouble with Being Wicked is a triumphant story about overcoming circumstance and prejudice to successfully face any roadblock. Celeste is a great character because she owned her past and made a choice to claim her future regardless of others. Her strength was an inspiration.

Mad for Love ( Highland Brides 1) – Elizabeth Essex 3.5stars

Rory Andrew Cathcart’s appreciation of the exquisite makes him the perfect man to expose forgeries and root out fraud in London’s tempestuous art world. But when his latest investigation into forged paintings puts him squarely in Marie Chantal Amelie (aka Mignon) du Blois’ shaky sights, he finds himself deep in trouble, and captured by something more powerful than mere beauty.
Mignon stops a rakish thief from stealing one of her father’s brilliant forgeries, she knows she’s found the perfect man to help her steal back a priceless statue that is a forgery & due to be assessed.
A well written light hearted novella that had me smiling at Rory & Mignon’s attempt to steal the statue & how they spent the time in the closet. I look forward to reading about Rory’s three friends

Scandalous Wife ( Scandalous Series1) – Ava Stone 5 stars

Robert Beckford, Earl of Marsten married Lydia after she was caught in a compromising situation with his brother Luke, who then fled. Robert banished Lydia to an estate in Cheshire but 5 years later she goes to London & stays with her cousin. Robert sees Lydia at a ball & is smitten with her but doesn’t recognise her at first.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story, with orphans, a mysterious governess, and deranged family. Most of all I liked the main characters & their family. A great series opener to a great series

Trials Of Artemis (The Haberdashers Series 1)- Sue London 3.5 stars

The Haberdashers
In 1805 three little girls decided to create a "boys club" because boys have more fun. Their childhood was filled with sword fighting, horse racing, and archery. Now in 1815 they are all grown up.
Jacqueline Jack Walters independent bluestocking sneaks into a library to read rare Greek texts and ends up with a husband instead. Gideon Wolfe, Earl of Harrington, has been avoiding marriage but a case of mistaken identity in the library has left him saddled with an argumentative and unwilling fiancée.
Jack loves archery and Greek military history. In her third season she has failed to inspire so much as one marriage proposal and is planning to settle into the quiet life of a spinster. I enjoyed the book & the developing attraction & affection between Giddy & Jack but at times I could have hit Jack for an intelligent woman she acted out of character at times. Gideon was arrogant & stand offish but this was due to his upbringing. I found it hard to believe that ex soldiers would have let a young woman lead the rescue

Her Sudden Groom (Grooms series 1) – Rose Gordon 5stars

The overly scientific, always respectable, and socially awkward Alexander Banks whose called Arid Alex has just been informed his name resides on a betrothal agreement right above the name of the worst chit in all of England, Lady Olivia Sinclair. However there’s a loophole that allows him to marry another without consequence if he marries before the thirtieth anniversary which is only a month away. Being the logical scientist he is, Alex decides to take his friend's advice and treat his quest for a bride just like a science experiment.. You can just see the pitfalls!
Caroline Sinclair is still trying to scrape her jaw off the floor after hearing her cousin, Lady Olivia’s, latest announcement when the object of their conversation, Alex Banks, Olivia’s intended, arrives for what Caroline assumes is a bout of drawing room chitchat with his betrothed. But when an experiment is mentioned, Caroline, who cannot resist a science experiment any more than she can deny her lungs air, volunteers to help before she even knows what his latest experiment is!
I loved this book hugely entertaining. There was good characterisation & the plot was well paced. The author dealt with Edward’s illness sympathetically
It was great to catch up with the Scandalous Sisters & I so look forward to now reading the other Groom & Banks books

The Robber Bride (The Daring Debutantes, 1) - Jerrica Knight-Catania 5stars

Victoria Barclay is a Regency Robin Hood. Her best friend Phineas Dartwell, Earl of Leyburn realises she’s keeping secrets from everyone & also realises he loves her. A delightful short story. A strong female lead. The proposal brought a tear to my eye. Nice touch that Victoria is related to Kat Duchess of Weston. Quick but very enjoyable read.

Shunned No More (A Lady Forsaken 1) - Christina McKnight 3 stars

Lady Viola Oberbrook only wanted to forget the ill-fated early morning duel that took the lives of two young, wealthy, Spencer twins and sent her fleeing for her father’s country estate. Eight years later, she has her life in order: a fulfilling business raising foals at Foldger’s Foals. What she doesn’t expect is to come face to face with her past. Brock Spencer, Earl of Haversham, recently returned from his military service against Boneparte, plans to repair his family estate, find a bride, and destroy the girl responsible for the untimely death of his twin brothers.
He arrives at Foldger’s Foal to buy eight foals to begin to build his stable. Viola nearly collapses on seeing him & introduces herself as Lady Posey Hale. The pair are attracted to each other but she knows it can never be.
I nearly gave up reading the book on finishing the prologue, I thought no way do I want to read about a selfish, utterly spoiled debutante. However I’m so glad I didn’t & that I continued to read the novel.
Viola has changed, she works hard, supports an orphanage & hires handicapped servants. This isn’t a straight-forward romance there’s plenty of intrigue. Brock’s cousin wants the title for himself. Viola’s business is having too many difficulties. The chemistry between the pair works well but I would have liked them to have had more encounters. The pace of the story kept me turning the pages. I look forward to reading more in the series

A Dangerous Invitation (Rookery Rogues 1) - Erica Monroe 4 stars

Torn from her life of privilege by her father's death, Kate Morgan survives in London's dark and depraved rookeries as a fence for stolen goods. The last man she ever expects, or wants, to be reunited with is her first love Daniel O’Reilly, who promised to cherish, honor and protect her, and instead fled amidst accusations of murder. One drunken night cost Daniel O'Reilly the woman he loved. If he ever wants to reclaim Kate and his old life he'll not only have to prove he's innocent of murder and convince the pistol-wielding hellion that he's no longer the scoundrel he was.
This is a very different novel from the others in the book, no nobility no upper ten thousand but a story set in the rookeries of London. An altogether more serious read as no frippery but the tale of Daniel wrongly accused of murder trying to find the real murderer & to reclaim his love Kate. The author paints a very good picture of life in the stews & the mystery keeps you turning the pages
.
The Trouble With Being Wicked (Naughty Girls 1) - Emma Locke 3.5 stars

When Celeste Gray arrives in the sleepy village of Brixcombe-on-the-Bay, she thinks she's one step closer to leaving her notorious past behind. She even suspects the deliciously handsome--if somewhat stuffy--viscount next door is developing a tendre for her. That is, until the day Ashlin Lancester Lord Trestin learns she's not the unassuming spinster she's pretending to be.
After a decade of proving he is nothing like his profligate father, Ash is horrified to have given his heart to a Cyprian. He launches a campaign by pursuing ‘easy’ ladies to prove his attraction is nothing more than a sordid reaction he can't control. But he soon learns that unlike his father, he can't find comfort in the arms of just any woman. He needs Celeste. When he takes her as his mistress, he's still not satisfied, and the many late nights in her arms only make him want more
Ash also wants his sisters, Lucy & Delilah to find husbands. However Lucy wants to move to Bath & open a school as she has loved Roman Alexander Marquis of Montborne, Ash’s best friend, for years. Ash’s world & his beliefs are turned on their head when he learns the truth about his parents, also his sisters decide to take matters into their own hands. I found it hard to believe that an Earl would marry a high flying courtesan & Chipmunks in Devon I don’t think so. Why not squirrels?

His Impassioned Proposal (The Bridgethorpe Brides 1) - Aileen Fish 4stars

Stephen Lumley returns from battle wounded and jaded, only to find his home life had been changed forever. After proposing while drowning his sorrows in liquor, he now has only four months to convince himself and Jane Marwick he is worthy of her, before she's off to London to find a man who is. A very good series opener, the characters are likeable & well rounded, the pace of the story is good & certainly makes you want to read the rest of the series

Scandalous Endeavors (Ladies and Scoundrels 1) - Amanda Mariel 3.5 stars

Lady Amelia finds herself alone, grief stricken and not of age when her father dies. Her appointed guardian, American Uncle Lewis, has ordered her to relocate to America where she must remain for the two years until she comes of age.
With the help of Grace and Sarah, Amelia gets her uncle to agree to give her two months to settle her affairs and unbeknownst to him find an English lord to marry. Despite her mourning period she endeavours to trap one of London’s eligible bachelors, Sarah’s brother in to matrimony
Grace’s nephew Richard, The Duke of Goldstone is visiting he’s devilishly handsome. He has a nasty habit of showing up at all the wrong moments and thwarting her carefully laid plans to ensnare a suitable husband. Sparks fly as the pair find themselves at odds with each other and drawn to each other at the same time. A charming story but no way would Amelia have been allowed the freedom she had & to travel alone with a bachelor! They’d definitely have had to marry

The Love List (Half Moon House 1) - Deb Marlowe 4 stars

Somebody has added Miss Brynne Wilmott's name to the Love List--that wickedly witty register of London's light skirts. She'll do anything to stop the publication. The Duke of Aldmere will do anything to be left alone but his brother Truitt is mixed up in this Love List business and he's gone missing. Together they work to unravel the mess, and find that it's a plot more twisted and treasonous than anyone suspected. At the heart of it is Brynne’s former fiancé the Marquis of Marstoke. Brynne & Nathan are very likeable we also meet Hestia Wright & I liked the snippets of her story at the start of each chapter. Another very good series starter

To Walk In The Sun (Wiggons' School for Elegant Young Ladies 1) - Jane Charles 4.5 stars

Tess Crawford was a pupil at The Wiggons’ School for Elegant Young Ladies along with her friends Natalie & Claudia, now all three are teaching at the school & each is hiding a secret & think the school would be the perfect place to disappear. Or it would be if the local villagers weren’t on edge because of the vampire in their midst, at least they think he’s a vampire.
Vincent Latimer, Viscount Atwood, is not a vampire, no matter what the villagers believe. He wishes the book, Wake Not the Dead, had never been written. There is a very good reason he visits his wife’s grave at night, and it has nothing to do with trying to raise her from the dead but more to do with his time as a soldier.
When there is a tempest it thrusts Tess into Vincent’s path and destroys the school, both of their pasts collide.
The three meddlesome schoolgirls, Rosemary Fairview, Eliza Weston & Sophia Trent are priceless.

Well that’s my reading ‘sorted’ for the winter! After reading 12 series starters I now have to read the rest of the series. All of the novels are very readable, some of course better than others. I have read some of them before & have gone on to read the rest of the authors work. Some I have had waiting to be read & others I’d not seen, so I’ve been introduce to a couple of new authors. An absolute bargain at the price

I am voluntarily submitting my honest review after receiving an ARC copy generously provided by one of the authors.

This wonderful collection of Regency romances has something for everyone. Each story offers a fantastic introduction to the author's work. Although each novel reads well as a complete standalone work, I challenge anyone to read the stories and not be tempted to delve further into at least one of the authors' bodies of work! My personal favorite in this collection is Christina McKnight's Shunned No More--an inspiring and uplifting story about a woman determined to reform her life after making a terrible mistake in her youth, if only a chance encounter with her past doesn't destroy the life she has rebuilt first. Full of dashing, noble, and passionate heroes, as well as the strong, loving and unusual women who dare to love them, this anthology offers something for every lover of historical romance.
