French by Design

Rate this book
The enduring appeal of French-country style spans the centuries, a gracious mingling of elegance and ease. After years of largely echoing the furniture, fabrics, and accessories linked with the region of Provence, these days French country is often far removed from the primitive images that hearken back to the early seventeenth century. Room by room, FRENCH BY DESIGN reveals the secrets to creating a contemporary French-country look, including textiles, furniture, floor coverings, window treatments, color palettes, wall treatments and lighting, thus allowing anyone to bring the look home. /p>

A beautifully done book, with lovely photos. All the photos however, are very muted. Essentially, almost every room or space featured in this book, at least in the first half, is the same color. I am a big fan of all the shades of the color taupe but there is a limit! I actually found the French way of design, if this book is any indication, very boring! Hard to believe that all the design and decor is so limited. Sadly, I was really disappointed in this coffee table and enormously sized book and would not be interested in seeing more from Phillips.
