A translation of the biographies of the four Rightly guided Caliphs: Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, Umar ibn Al-Khattab, Uthman Ibn 'Affan and Ali Ibn Abi Talib.
This books picks up from the death of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) after which Islam was lead by a series of four caliphs who were his closest companions. These caliphs, known collectively as the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs, led the Islamic world and greatly expanded its territory for the next 29 years.
This book is highly educative and I really enjoyed reading the story of the rightly guided caliphs particularly from the beginning of the reign of Abubakar As-Siddiq radiyallahu anhu upto towards the end of Umar's (radiyallahu anhu) era. From the death of Umar to the end is so emotional and full of unfortunate events. May Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of the sahabah. I like that it ended with the life of the ascetic Umar bn Abdulaziz, the eighth umayyad caliph. Even though he lived a short life, it was a blessed life full of lessons.
5 Caliphs are included i.e. Abu Bakar, Umar, Uthman, Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Umar ibn Abdul Azeez. The author covered their biographies, conquests, the spread of Islam, and the changes they brought to the Middle East. I found it difficult to put down this book as it relates to their lifestyles and dependency on Allah for success. I strongly recommend it to Muslims and non-Muslims.
A Great Read ..Interesting and of much use... A comprehensive coverage of the biographies of the venerable caliphs which had surely enriched me by some valuable life-lessons....
