Cher was raised by her single parent mother who taught her to not trust men & to promise never to fall in love with one. She is in her senior year of college never having been in a relationship with a man, never been kissed, never has had sex. Regan is a college professor taking over english courses at Cher's college & he has one hard & fast rule never to get involved with his students. He is also the type not to get entangled in love affairs, he is in it for the moment & when the moment is over he moves on. When Cher & Regan have a chance meeting in the hall before class on his first day, Cher dismisses Regan's help because she is independent & in no way will allow a man to come to her rescue. As she sits in class, she sees that the man from the hall is her new english teacher for the rest of the semester. They both appreciate what they see in one another but have issues that make it impossible for either of them to act on their mutual attraction. But can these two over come ingrained beliefs to see what is right in from of them? Can Cher get past the hurt she felt for her mother being left by her dad? Can Regan get past his insecurities involving his job & future in order to take a chance with Cher?
This older teacher falling for a younger student story is charming & sassy! Cher & Regan have to do a great deal of soul searching in order to over come their fears & take risks to move forward with one another. But they both fight their feelings because those beliefs & fears have been ingrained so deeply. Just because they give into temptation doesn't mean that everything will be smooth sailing. Yet it is hard to avoid the right person when he or she is put in front of you no matter how hard you may try.
Stars: 2 Length: Novella POV: Dual Series: The Me Series #1 (Stand Alone but loosely connected) Ending: HEA Re-read? No
I did NOT enjoy this book. It was bad. In fact, I almost DNFed it at 27% and then again at 40%. I think the only reason that I didn't was because it was a novella and I've also never DNFed a teacher/student romance before. They are my favorite. I think I hoped it would get better or at least end with an amazing payoff. It didn't.
Firstly, it's very obviously one of those books set in a college and the person who wrote it never attended college. It's not a knock on their intelligence AT ALL. I don't think college is necessary for everyone. However, the way it's written, the interactions, the settings, it's basically high school with a dorm room. I always find that so annoying that it's distracting.
Secondly, the heroine was one of the worst I've ever encountered. She was an unabashed man-hater and basically never changed. There wasn't enough story for that. She was so mean to this professor, I can't understand why he thought he was in love with her. She was just so awful. I didn't want her to find love. I wanted her to be alone forever. The entire thing just didn't make sense.
If I were you I would take a hard pass on this story.
I am so torn about this one........... I LOVED it, but I'm disappointed.
I absolutely love love love a good student/teacher romance. This had SOOOOOOOOOO much potential. It was honestly fabulous right up until the end. All I can say is..... What?!?!?!?
It hit all the right buttons, you name it, this had it - palpable sexual attraction, great characters, page turning "angst", and a revelation out of left field. But the end was rushed and just came out of thin air. I had no idea I was even near the end. Know why? There's another book tacked on so the page count in the your Kindle is misleading. Even without relying on the page count and just the story itself, I seriously had no idea the end was even in sight. This story could have continued and been made into something fabulous pushing the 4.25/4.5 star range for me. Instead, it's just a short good/average read.
I am not sure where to begin. The story seems to be set in some generic college in some generic place. It may have been stated in the novel, but descriptive setting details were lacking. Both characters used the words "wanna", including the teacher of English, Regan. Cher used "gonna", as well, so I am thinking regional? Maybe they were at Mafia College? I don't know. However, while the lack of good adequate details grated, it is not the real issue. SPOILERS, SPOILERS......The real issue is the crazy as a loon heroine and the juvenile behavior of both main characters. Cher was abandoned by her father and grew up with an emotionally scarred mother who had her own man issues. Cher makes it clear that she not only distrust men and romantic love, but she seems to actively hate men. She treats her teacher like dirt. Regan thinks she is perfect. Why, I cannot fathom. I can only conclude that he is a masochist. She does not warm up to him until almost halfway through the book, and even then, she is still waxing more cold than hot. His behavior is just as odd. At one point he takes a day and a half off, cancelling class, for a date....or that is what he tells the class. HE TELLS THE CLASS. It does not matter WHY he tells them, it is simply not something one does. (He is trying to make Cher jealous. It does not matter that they are not seeing each other, he KNOWS they have a connection. Cue crazy theme music here.) Then our hero calls his mom to talk about this girl that he has met and needs advice on, right before he goes to have an early morning beer with his buddy for more advice....on a girl he barely knows at all. My guess is that this detail is shared to show the depths of his despair. There is suddenly sex, she is upset they cannot be open in their relationship (duh), so she throws the hero to the curb, then he breaks off the "affair"....is it an affair when it is so brief? There is a surprise plot twist, perhaps even to the author, and the end. I suppose it is an HEA, but only if one actually likes the idea of settling for someone with the emotional maturity level of a cranky toddler. Try a different teacher/student romance. I love this subgenre, but not this particular one.
Teach Me is Penelope's latest release it's a student/teacher romance written beautifully with Penelope's trade mark twist towards the end. Cher is an independent strong minded young woman she's on her own as her mother passed away and she'd grown up without a father, her father being absent from her and her mother's life plays a huge part in the reason why she's grown up with a slight dislike towards the opposite sex she doesn't particularly trust men and she certainly doesn't believe in love and fairytales well that's until a brief encounter with a hot stranger in the hallways peaks her interest she soon discovers the hot stranger is infact Mr Dovovan her new Professor, as much as she tries to deny her feelings towards Regan (Mr Donovan) she finds herself falling for him but she's torn as he's her teacher and she's never let anyone close before for fear of getting hurt. When Regan finds himself attracted to Cher he can't stay away from her even if it means risking his job he's willing to take the chance if it means finding true love he just has to break down the walls Cher's built up around herself. This was a short fast paced insta-love read with a HEA, if you like your books like that then this one's for you I highly recommend it, it's
I loved Regan and Cher's story!! Honestly, this book went a different way than what I initially expected. It's a mildly steamy read with a strong dose of emotion that is felt throughout the entirety of the story. With it's duel POV, you're able to follow Regan and Cher as they both go through this rollercoaster of a story that, of course, becomes the HEA that we all want and love.
One of the most important elements in a book that's an absolute must for me is that the story has to seem realistic. I find it excruciatingly hard to read a book if it doesn't seem real. With that being said, this story has a very real aspect to it. You can tell that Ms. Marshall took care in her writing to deliver an amazing story that can't be put down untill the very end. It'll definitely suck you in on the first page and make you feel every emotion the characters do the entire time.
I absolutely loved this book and look forward to reading more by Ms.Marshall (since this is the first piece of work that I've read of hers).
A stunning book by an author that continues to surprise me as her writing talent continues to grow. Teach Me makes me wish I had a hot professor like this for my English classes - would have made for a much more exciting/thrilling class. ;)
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters of Cher and Regan. They each had their own histories that added to their unique relationship dynamic. The teacher/student dynamic is always considered taboo - but Penelope weaved it quite beautifully within the story.
The story may be fast - but it's full of what ifs and excitement, disappointment and of course... drama!
Teach Me is short, hot and sweet. Cher is a man hating, young student who falls in lust with her professor, Regan. Regan is determined to take her to task for always sassing him and giving him attitude, but what he doesn't expect is to actually fall in love with her. Cher, who always distances herself from men because she doesn't trust them, thanks to an absent father, is determined to resist her sexy professor, but eventually she gives in.
If you like classic cases of insta lust, even insta love, then Teach Me is recommended!
This book was hot and one-click and you are in book-orgasm. Regan Donovan is so freaking SEXXY and HOT!! Pure pleasure. Dirty. Decant—sums up Regan and Cher’s relationship quite succinctly. I bought this book because I had an ARC of book 2—so I had to read this one first. This was a beautiful love story that was so well done; it held my attention and was entertaining, but also was heartwarming and emotional. I enjoyed reading this story because it was full of emotional angst, scorching love scenes that burned through my iPad, a compelling storyline, and this book was well written by Penelope Marshall. I also love how the romantic relationship builds between Regan Donovan and Cher Carson. I laughed at times during the banter between Cher and Regan. Regan was handsome, sexy, but unlike other alphas, he seemed to have a more unassuming nature and understanding—maybe because he was a professor. Cher was a student in Regan’s class. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next. The book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.
I enjoyed this book, though I think it finished a bit too fast and sharp, a bit more at the end and it would've been 5 star lovely .........................
First, I didn't know this book existed until I was ready to read the 2nd book, Tempt me. Before I read a book, I always check the ratings and read the reviews. That's when this book was mentioned. Let me tell you what, I am so glad I read this ! The story was amazing ! I love Cher and Regan. Cher took a while to make her mind up about being with Regan, but with her past it's understandable. This is a no cliffhanger , standalone, sexy book ! It gave me ideas of the next book, which I'm going to read as soon as I finish my review. On top of it, I was also born in Philippines !!! Good job Penelope !!! Keep up the good work !!!
I quickly found that I must have only gotten a sneak peak from Ibstafreebie here but I have to admit that I don't mind coz I really can't stand Cher's attitude.
DNF @ 49% L-A-M-E No build up AT all before she and the teach hook up. She is lily white...literally...virginal and never even been kissed. She is so adament that she will never give into love with a man yet the minute the teach makes a move she gives in completely. Ugh. So unbelievable not to mention she has not one BUT two orgasms during her first time. Seriously? I know this is fiction but we want SOME sense of reality. Like I said....LAME. 1.5* Don't even bother* stars
Omg this book will make you want to jump in the book and kill Cher but don't worry she gets it together. Cher is a student who has one thing on her mind to be successful and never depend on a man. Cher has been raised to believe men are not dependable and you can not trust them. Cher has been find by herself until she runs into Regan who turns out to be her professor. Regan brings out feeling she has never had and she doesn't know what to do but push him away. Regan meet Cher when he helps her pick up her things and he walks away from her thinking she is a man hater. But he can get her out of his mind and he loves how sassy she is. My heart goes out to Regan no matter how mad he gets and he gets pissed he can't walk away from Cher. This book has some twist that will leave you speechless you will never see them coming I promise. So go get you a glass of wine and enjoy this great book maybe the whole bottle because Cher will drive you crazy.
Good heavens he was passionate a little on the confused side but who can admit when love strikes u in the most inappropriate times learning to listen to your heart and taking a leap of faith is what made this story sweet
I love Regan and Cher! The immediate connection, how they try to fight each other and their feelings! I have read many books by this author I have to say they keep getting better. In true Penelope Marshall fashion she has another hot fast paced book that not only gives you a great amount of detail in a short amount of time but a break away from reality with great storyline and her plot twists that always have me shaking my head! Has witt, sexiness, some good drama, romance, even threw in some stuff about moving on with life ( hey why not! ) Loved this book! I will certainly be adding this short sexy fantasy read to my read again collection!! I look forward tor reading what she comes up with next!!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.
Cher is a college student halfway through a business degree, her mother died and she wants to make her proud. Cher’s father abandon them when she was a baby and after seeing what her mother went through does not believe in love and is very bitter towards men. Regain is a college professor, Cher’s English Literature teacher, it’s against the rules to date a student, but Cher intrigues and captures Regan’s attention. She pushes against them, he is pushing towards. Cher is jealous when Regan takes another teacher to the football game even though she has a date. Regan saves Cher from unwanted attention from Riley, Cher finds out who her father is, he is there for her. Do they break the rules for their HEA?
This is one steamy read you do not wanna miss. I loved the character development as well as plot twists! Our heroine, Cher, is a college student who was raised to believe men can’t be trusted. This is until our every sweet hero swoops in and shatters those notions! I can't get enough of Ms. Marshall's Hero!
Loved this fast paced, instal-love, twisty with HEA romance book. I got everything I needed from this book! Keep em coming Miss Marshall!
1st book I have read, written by Penelope Marshall, loved it. Pulled ya in. Must read .. I was confused a bit at 1st trying to figure out whether this was high school or college. It's a college setting. Gotta ya now. I will be checking out more of Penelope's work for my TBR list. A hot & steamy book college scenes throughout. Lucky Cher. She is head strong, determined until a certain teacher gets in her way. Watch out!! Love all the unique names ... I have never heard Regan before. ( ;
Cher is focusing on her studies and avoid men at all costs. She doesn't trust them and has walls in place to protect herself. Regan is the exception and is able to break down all of her walls. A story full of love, passion, trust, overcoming betrayal, and taking a leap! A great series starter! An awesome read!
WOW I need to go to college especially with a teacher like Regan Donovan loved this book fast paced couldn't put it down Penelope's books are ones to look out for wish I could give more stars well worth reading you won't be disappointed.
This book is fast paced with insta-love romance. It's hot and steamy. Regan and Cher are instantly attracted to each other but try to fight it. Regan is Cher's professor. Will they finally give in to that attraction? You will enjoy this book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Cher was raised by a single mom & after seeing what she went through she doesn't believe in men or love. At college she meets Regan who's her professor. He wants to make her his, although it's against college policy to date a student. She pushes him away, but how long will it lasts? A good read.
