Tanglewood Animal Park has just received a new tiger. Sumatran tigers are endangered and it was extremely important for him to get adapted to his new. Unfortunately, Tindu was very shy and timid and it was a challenge for him to be introduced to his new surroundings. When it was time for the zoo keepers to bring in another tiger to be his mate will they become friends with each other?
This was just such a good read! This is the second book in the Tanglewood Animal Park series and I wouldn't say that you have to have read the first book in the series to be able to read this one, but its such a good book so I would definitely recommend it! This book sees Zoe and her family welcome a new tiger to the zoo. But fear not, this book is not all about a tiger. We get to revisit the baby zebra from the previous book in the series as well as some of the other favourite animals, the guinea pigs, the meercats and even a new stray cat!
What is wonderful about this book is everything I learned from it. I didn't go into this series expecting to take away so many facts from it about wild animals, but when I went to the zoo last week, I was able to see some of the creatures there in a whole new light thanks to Tamsyn Murray's fantastic research!
This book is also great because everything is seen through Zoe's eyes so we see the park though her curiosity and it means that it is even easier for the intended audience to identify with her and explore the park the way in which they would see it. Just like the previous book in the series, we also see aspects of Zoe's friendships and also her relationship with her family and the other people who work at the zoo, something for everyone!
As an educator, I would definitely recommend adding this book to your classroom, it would be a great book to share with a class or a reading group. And as a reader, I would definitely recommend adding this book to your TBR now, you will learn lots and it is a highly entertaining read too!
I realised reading this that I am reading this series in the wrong order. The books and story are still completely understandable despite this.
Animal stories are popular for a reason. They give a glance both at our relationships with animals but also at our relationships with ourselves. This book can be used to show how relationships change as well as how trial and error can solve problems. They are good learning experiences for young readers (and those who read to them.)
The juxtaposition between two animals in particular is a clever addition to the series. The main character is shown as resourceful and intelligent where sometimes they can become faceless in these stories. The other human characters all have roles to play in the story without taking too much focus.
It was an enjoyable read and I will return to this series. Definitely recommended for 6-10 year olds and I feel the series would work well in a primary school environment as a learning tool.
This is a fabulous book. It is about a girl named Zoe who lives at Tanglewood Animal Park with her parents, where there has been a new arrival - Tindu the tiger! Unfortunately, Tindu cannot settle in, and won't even eat. Can Zoe help Tindu feel more at home? This was a really fun book and made me feel happy. It was not as much of an adventure story, which are the stories I really like, but I did really enjoy this book. I would recommend this book to readers aged 9+.
This is a nice little read, which would appeal particularly to animal-loving, fact-loving kids. The factual information is integrated quite seamlessly into the story and plot, which I enjoyed and I even learnt some new things!
