Trevor is 12-years-old and on his own after an EMP wipes out the power grid across the United States. This is the 3rd book in the EMP series. It can be read out of order. The other books are EMP 1500 Miles from Home, and EMP Caravan
This book had some redeeming features, however parts of it felt like a rip of Paulsen’s Hatchet. Trevor’s character also lacked believability at times.... he would go from knowing quite adult terms, to talking like a three year old in the space of a paragraph.
This book was entertaining, and though not terribly realistic, still fun to read. As a serious fan of post-apocalyptic novels, I found this one a little different, and thus thoroughly enjoyed it. Trevor is a likable and resilient character, and I'd read a follow-up if it was written.
This is a book about a 12 year old named Trevor. After an EMP and the subsequent loss of food and water, his step mother locks him out of the house. It's up to him to survive. He's always loved the woods of Arkansas . His interest in hunting & fishing and watching how to videos makes finding food a little easier. He meets some good people and ,of course, the bad seem to find him. With the help of his new friend (dog) Sackett and his love of bows and arrows everything seems to be coming thru for him. The storyline was fantastic. This author knows how to survive in the woods! There are a lot of tips and info for things I would not even be aware of. This was a really good book. I couldn't stop reading!
I had hoped this was a continuation of the prior EMP series with the group that was heading east but this is a completely separate story. This boy is very resourceful and his first person tale is well told. I thought the persistence in the bad guy in tracking the boy's friends so far afield though he had their home and stuff was fairly unrealistic. Nonetheless, I like the writing style and enjoyed the story.
I liked it. Good, quick read. A post-apocalyptic tale, with the twist that it features a twelve year old. It stretches credulity just a bit to have a 12 year old learn to survive in the woods, with next to zero training (no boy scouts, no dad taking him camping). But, this is fiction, so go with the flow. Initial expertise was gained watching internet videos before the EMP strike. Yes, he gets expert help from the few friendly survivors. Lots of time spent as young Trevor explains making various traps. Lots of time trying to make a bow and arrows. His skill is exceptional...oh well, it's fiction. Anyway, every 12-year old needs a dog (or as Mr. Peabody used to say...every dog should have a boy). And young Trevor meets a classically good one. Action centers around surviving weather, evil folks (clearly, every post-apocalyptic tale has a long list of really evil folks.), hunger, running sizable distances to get away from those bad guys...and some interesting thoughts on when killing is ok.
This is the third outstanding book by Mike and he just keeps getting better. The first two, EMP. 1500 miles from home and EMP Caravan were so well written that I immediately started looking for the next. Good job!!
Loved the book, Characters were excellent, I read a lot of post apocalyptic books, and I enjoyed this one very much. I do not know if there is a sequel or 2nd book in the series planned, just in case I will keep my fingers crossed that that there will be one.
This book was totally different than his other books. This young boy matured more in the he short period of time he was in the wild, than he did in his whole life. The book was well written and kept me reading until I finished.
Another enjoyable read. This book doesn't tie into the first 2 till the very end. I really enjoyed this series even with some events being to convenient. The author would benefit from someone that actually knew about firearms and tactics, and body armor. Still I enjoyed this series.
