I liked the idea of "The Final Countdown" meets "Jurassic Park." It isn't executed all that well. Poor characterization, comic book sound effects, and a thin plot that doesn't go past the overall concept made it entertaining but not great. The end was a deus ex machina that made most of the story irrelevant. The implications of traveling back in time were never really dealt with the way they were in "The Final Countdown" when an aircraft carrier from 1980 goes back to 1941 and has a chance to alter the outcome of Pearl Harbor; in this book it was just American and German troops being chased and eaten by dinosaurs. Like most self-published books there were some typos too. Still, it was a fun read.

This was a good story, but I found I couldn't quite get into it. Plenty of monsters and fighting. The ending was unique and appreciated. It is not a cliffhanger, but the reader does expect more. Read the first two chapters of the book advertised at the end of this story. I guess I could recommend this book.

An Okay story

The plot of this story has been used several times in the past. EBR has a story with this plot, but set in the First World War. Now the action was pretty good, but the characters were a little weak. The Nazis were Nazis, the German sailors were a loyal crew, and the American sailors were just good old Americans. For the most part this was just a story to pass the time with no big moral questions of right or wrong. If you like lots of dinosaur action then it isn't a bad read.

This book earned a Five Star Review. I’ve spent some time reading several books in related genres. My list includes noteworthy writers of today, as well as a recent revisit to Jurasic Park. Hatchell takes on a difficult charge in Prehistoric WWII by placing the initial conflict at sea, then shifting it to a tropical island. My honest take on the approach was slightly guarded. But Hatchell drops the reader into an amazing world, pulling off a first-class naval battle, and then seamlessly carrying the action onto land. And that’s exactly what he does, with non-stop action in a straight-out thriller. The book includes just the right amount of characters, peppering the reader with enough information to demonstrate distinct personalities. You grow to care what happens next because of the draw into the characters. The writing style is crisp and tight, showing the reader through action and dialog, with just enough description to fill the mind’s eye. The plot carries through to an interesting climax that does not disappoint. I highly recommend the book as a must read for anyone interested in well-paced action thrillers.

I had been wanting to read this since its release and I am SOOOO glad I finally did. This book has an amazing plot and blends some of my favorite genres. I really enjoyed it. It was well-written and engaging. If you enjoy a good WWII story, then give this one a try because it will turn history on its side. Fantastic work, Dane.
