Dances With Werewolves #2

First Bite is the Deepest

Rate this book
This playful take on modern werewolves is perfect for fans of Dakota Cassidy's Wolf Mates series. Sexy, hilarious, and emotionally satisfying, FIRST BITE IS THE DEEPEST is a book that will have you howling with laughter.

Can a woman bitten by a werewolf choose not to become one herself? Ella is not persuaded by rich, handsome, and (unfortunately) neutered werewolf, Robert Colbert that his bite need change her life. Despite her annoyance with his arrogance, she agrees to let him take her to dinner if he’ll let her interview him for her gossip magazine LoveLifeStyle about his previous job as a designer/host for a reality TV show.

Trying to convince her to accept her werewolf fate before the rapidly approaching full moon, Robert finds himself falling in love with the stubborn bitch-to-be. But with some dark secrets of her own and a scarier suitor on her horizon, Ella may prove to be the one woman able to resist Robert’s wolfish charm.

The sequel to JUST ONE BITE about Robert’s brother, Lucas, this steamy tale of mismatched lovers will have you dreaming of catching your own werewolf lover. Playing fetch? Not so much…

I received a copy of First Bite is the Deepest from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Book two of the Dances With Werewolves series tells the story of Robert (brother to Lucas from book 1 - Just One Bite) and Ella. We get to visit with the Colbert Werewolf clan some more and meet some of the other members. From their first meeting at an action house to the thrilling and suspenseful end. Nora once again delivers another great book that you will not want to put down.

Do the words funny, attention grabbing, Sexy, and intriguing begin to describe what is so great about this book? Maybe but if you enjoy paranormal romances or books about shifters then you are going to love First Bite is the Deepest. There are great character development and an interesting plot. Take a break and enjoy some quality with a great book. My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

When I read about the neutered werewolf brother of Lucas Colbert in "Just One Bite" (book 1 this series), I couldn't wait to hear more about Robert and the entire Colbert Seattle werewolf clan. Ms. Snowdon excels at crafting a fun, sexy, face-paced read - so I wasn't surprised when "First Bite is the Deepest" had me glued to the pages. I loved following Robert and Ella (his reluctant human mate with a mysterious family history of her own) from their first meeting at an auction house (where Robert tries to retrieve a family painting from Ella - a painting that could cast the entire Colbert clan into great peril if it fell into the wrong hands) to the story's nail-biter of an ending. Looking forward to reading book 3 in this fabulous series.

I'm not sure which I liked better Book 1 or this one. Rosie nd Lucas were cute, but this has bigger problems or er, prejudices to overcome.

Ella and her friend Leanne were at an auction Leanne told Ella she should bid on a picture of wolves to go above her fireplace and Ella got the picture. Two men rushed into the auction and offered Ella fifty dollars for the picture which she had said she paid eight dollars for it Ella went to walk away with her picture one of the men grabbed her arm and Ella felt warmth usually Ella hated any stranger touching her normally. Ella doesn’t care for really hot looking guys who will not treat her as a equal. Then Ella realized why the one man looked familiar. He was Robert Colbert from Designed By Colbert. He had been on a tv show about how Robert and his team designed and decorated high priced places. Lucas and Robert were brothers and that was a family picture Ella now owned. Jeanette was their sister and was hanging with a Los Lobos gang member and sold the picture. With Jeanette and the Parker family the pack was really getting divided . Lucas was to take over leadership from their father. Robert had an incident with the SPCA and got neutered and that took his ability to become the alpha of the pack as he couldn't produce a future heir to take his place when it was time. Robert mentioned EL TV had called to talk about a new show. When Ella went into the garage to get her picture hanging things Robert had been sleeping in wolf form and he bit her. It looked like a wolf but there were no wolves in Seattle. There were several holes in her leg that healed just as quickly before Ella’s eyes. Robert and the pack were werewolves and now Ella would become one. Lucas told Robert he better go to the woman and explain that she was now a werewolf so Robert went to tell her. Ella worked at LoveLifeStyle. Ella told Robert to prove he was a werewolf and he switched forms in front of her.. In six days during the full moon Ella will shift . Ella agreed to go out to dinner with Robert if he gave her an interview about his show as Robert never did interviews. After the show was canceled Robert was offered a couple acting jobs but turned them down as he didn’t feel he would be good at following a script. When Robert asked Ella why journalism Ella said it was rebellion, her mother wanted her to marry and have lots of babies even picked out her mate for Ella and Ella didn’t agree. Ella said maybe someday she would marry but no children she just wouldn’t be a good mom. Robert and the family have to be careful about what they say and do as no one can learn of them being werewolves. Ella’s mom disowned her when she was twenty that was all the true family Ella had. Sher had disowned Ella as she wouldn’t go for the arranged marriage. Robert wanted to sleep with Ella . Ella also wanted Robert. Robert asked Ella to go out again the next night and Ella accepted. But then she had to cancel as it was Leanne’s birthday. Men constantly came to the table once Leanne and Ella were out. Then two men started to fight over Ella and Ella got Leanne and they left. Lucas told him the way he was acting Ella was his mate. Lucas was mated with a human named Rosie and he was very happy with her and didn’t mind giving up his freedom. Lucas said it was worth it. Ella wasn’t Robert’s usual type : sophisticated, women more career driven, and taller women. But every fiber in Robert’s body ached to possess Ella. Robert realized Ella was his mate during sex and he needed Ella to be his forever.
I absolutely loved this story. It was a fun read. It was a fast paced read and kept my attention and it even made me laugh out loud, I loved Ella’s determination that she wasn’t going to turn at the full moon. I also really liked how out of nowhere all kinds of men are noticing Ella and wanting to be close to her. This just had a delightful plot. It was a quick read and a great read. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend.

It all started with a family portrait or what looked like a photo shopped picture of a group of wolves facing the camera on a moonlit night — depends on your perspective… or your species which you’d see it as. At the auction where Ella had won the whopping $8 bid it was an unusual picture of wolves and maybe the frame was worth the bid. To Robert it was a family portrait, with all their names on the back of the photo… and something he simply had to get back before a human read the names and started putting questions out there about his wealthy family.

Robert was determined to get that photo back so it seemed like a perfectly logical idea to shift to his wolf, sneak into Ella’s garage and wait til she left for work… only it didn’t quite work out that way. Since her security was good enough that he couldn’t get into the house he had no choice but to wait for her return, only he fell asleep. Awakened by a kick to the side, Robert instinctively snapped at the offender. Only… it was Ella stumbling into his wolf in the dark and he’d just bitten a human which means trouble, big trouble.

Sometimes finding your mate is nothing more than a lucky coincidence. Too bad that Ella didn’t immediately see it that way too. While trying to get the photo back he’d ended up giving the lady an interview, asked for a date and was quickly falling under her spell. He tried to toss it off as simply apologizing for what he’d done and explain that she was about to turn into a werewolf but he’d be there to help her through it. Poor Robert, things definitely aren’t going according to his plan – especially when Ella insists that she’s not about to turn into a werewolf, but she wouldn’t mind the date or the interview.

First Bite Is The Deepest is such a fun, charming romp. I dare anyone not to give out a few chuckles while reading Robert and Ella’s romance. At times a comedy of errors, at other moments an intense sensuous romance, this story hits that sweet spot where you get to laugh as well as swoon over a couple at odds with each other, even when they’d rather be otherwise occupied. I have to admit that just like Robert in some ways, I didn’t pick up subtle hints either. And in a way I’m glad I didn’t because the rest of the story was such fun with a different type of twist added.

We also get a chance to meet up with Lucas and his lovely mate once again. Anna is as funny as always and I’m quite glad to see that she will get her story told next.

If you’re in the mood for a funny, sexy laugh out loud romance, then have I got the book for you. I’d definitely recommend this one for any Paranormal Romance reader. It’s a fun romp that will keep you in chuckles. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.

I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Who says, stubbornness isn't sexy?

Another delightful read by Nora Snowdon! Robert might be a neutered wolf thanks to a night of drinking too much and not able to be alpha of the pack but that doesn't stop him from making the best of things. Especially when it comes to the ladys. That is till he meets Ella. Ella is definitely attracted to Robert but they both have secrets. Robert is more a dog person and Ella tends t like cats more. These two stubborn individuals bump heads among other things. Humorous and light hearted with a hint of action. Love that it can be a stand alone or enjoyed in order. I love reading more about previous characters from book one like Lucas and his new wife Rosie, and Robert and Lucas's sister Anna. Looking forward to reading book three! Highly recommend to paranormal romance lovers.

This book was yet another adorable installment in the Dances with Werewolves series. If you enjoy your paranormal romance with a nice side of humor, this is definitely the series for you!

We join the same pack that we met in the last book, only this time they are confronted with a new issue. It turns out that one of their estranged pack members has let a pack photo of everyone in their animal forms (complete with names on the back) go to auction. Being a bit late to the auction, they find that someone has already scooped up the piece - Ella.

Ella recognizes Robert Colbert from his TV appearances, but her stubborn nature will not let her part with the piece she rightfully won. Even when he turns up at her door looking yummy after she's been attacked by a wolf, she is determined to hold strong. Her job as an entertainment reporter, however, won't let her turn down his offer of dinner and an interview. Things definitely take off from there. No matter how much she insists that she will not turn into a werewolf, he won't accept it. These two are definitely matched in the stubborn department.

This book had a really great ending, that I certainly won't spoil for you. There is even a healthy dose of action thrown in to keep things moving. This book was a nice surprise in a romance series - not formulaic and it kept me on my toes. I can't wait to see what the next installment gives us!

Cats rule, Dogs drool

Robert and Lucas try to recover a family portrait but are too late, it's been purchased by Ella, and so our tale begins. Robert accidentally bites Ella but what happens next is completely unexpected. In all the drama a danger arrives that shakes everyone to their core and only some brave actions will save the day.

I received a copy of this book free of charge from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I like Nora Snowdon's writing for the most part. It is easy and quick to read. However, I have found both of her books lacking a bit in the story. It seems to be missing important parts. For example, Ella is a were cougar but has never changed. Is she half were with one human parent? If so, why did she never change before? Or if she needed to be bitten, why did no one else in her family bite her before now?

She was accidentally bitten by Robert, a werewolf. However, he is shocked when she changes into a cougar instead of a wolf. Why didn't she change into a hybrid when he bit her? There is nowhere near enough detail about all of this. You are left wondering and confused. It is a shame really, because the characters are likeable and the story enjoyable once you get past the lack of background information.

After reading Nora Snowdon’s, Love at First Sniff, I had to read the second in the series, First Bite is the Deepest. The fireworks between Ella and sexy Robert Colbert had me turning the pages. These two are an unlikely pair. Not just because Ella’s a gossip columnist and Robert’s a sophisticated host of a ritzy decorating show. The main problem is she’s human and he’s a werewolf. Just when you think these two are working out their differences, Ella’s mysterious origins rise up to divide them and someone from her past threatens both their lives. Snowdon’s crafted another fast-paced read full of sassy wit, tension and sizzling romance. Best part is, there’s going to be another story in the series.

Book 2 took me on a fast ride through Robert and Ella's surprising romance. And oh dear - a huge surprise that threw Robert into so much confusion he couldn't decide what to do next.

I loved this book and had to sit and read it all the way through. Of course the two of them would eventually overcome their startling differences and challenges - but I had to see how on earth their romance would finally have a happily ever after! I loved it.

And I'm now looking forward to future books, to read the stories about several others in the Colbert Clan... And why on earth is Mr. Colbert Senior so... quiet-? I can hardly for Book 3.

Highly recommended. Curl up on the couch with a glass of wine and enjoy!

This is a great book; this is the second book in the Dances With Werewolves series written by Nora Snowdon. Really loved this book. It's hard to review it without giving any spoilers and I don't want to give any. I enjoyed reading every word of it, witty Ella and super horny Robert, well you can figure out how that spun into a hot tale of an unusual love. Not your everyday, average romance. So if you're craving for something fresh, new, different, this book is made for you. I can see many who would snub romance novels, picking this one up and reading to the last word. Great read for summer or any other time of the year.

Totally not what I expected and yet a truly fun story. In the last book Just One Bite we met Robert Colbert former heir to the Colbert pack whose position was nullified when he got drunk, captured and neutered. Robert isn’t totally unhappy about the situation. Now his brother can have all the responsibility and he can continue his player like ways. What he never counted on was meeting Ella. Ella is Roberts total opposite and not easily swayed by his charm, money and good looks. Ride along with their rollercoaster romance and fall in love with these fun and quirky characters. I know I did.

I got my copy from netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I absolutely loved this book. I read the first one, but this is so much better. Robert is kind of broken, same as Ella, and it's really beautiful to see how everything evolves, and the surprise for the full moon. It has some action, humour and romance. I finished it within hours. I want more now.

Great series!

This is a fun and quirky series to read. It's refreshing and exciting to read a happy ending when diverse peoples are involved especially with the controversies in the news lately. I like the way love conquers most, if not all of their differences. Using fish & steak to emphasis these differences, and their eventual acceptance of them is genius and hilarious.

While I didn’t find this story quite as good as the first edition in the series, it was still a fun tale. The meet-cute story of Ella and Robert is definitely unique, and the reason they start spending time together even more so. And it is fun to see more of this unique family as the story unfolds. But since you can see the sparks fly between Ella and Robert right from the get-go, it is no surprise that they end up together. There are some rather spicy scenes between them; but, again, it doesn't quite measure up to the first novel. Of course, we have to traipse through the ubiquitous trials and travails before they can have their happily ever after. Although the biggest supposed shock of the story was something you could totally see coming, if you were paying enough attention. But Robert, of course, is blindsided by Ella’s revelation, and – mostly just due to his stubborn nature – has trouble accepting it. He also tends to jump to conclusions a bit, which causes some related problems that could have been more easily solved. But it does all prove worth it in the end.

I read the first three books (Just One Bite, First Bite is the Deepest and Big Girls Don’t Bite) in one shot because ….procrastination. Anyhoodle, this review applies to all three since they have pretty much the same strengths and weaknesses.

description

-Kindle Unlimited, so easy to rent and try as opposed to straight up buying.
-’Verse and the rules for werewolves I enjoyed
-There’s sex - it’s not fade to black but it’s not overtly explicit IMO. I’ve read way dirtier.
-The sibling relationships (the first two heroes and the heroine in the third are all part of the Colbert family clan of wolves) were probably my favorite.
-Cute and funny at times
-Romance is the weakest part of the stories. With each book, when it came to the passion and belief in the actual love, I struggled. I believed that these characters were attracted to each other, but they were all curiously lacking in that innate chemistry that makes a romance really compelling.

description
The Bottom Line 3 stars
I was torn on how to rate these. I obviously enjoyed the ‘verse enough to keep reading, but the romances were all lacking a little bit to make this pleasant series great. So I’m going to average it out and just say I like them and if you’re more into the ‘verse of shifters than the romance, you may enjoy this.
