Amelita Rae took a wrong turn on the internet one day. All the innocent young lass wanted to do was watch funny cat videos, but then she discovered Boy's Love and that was the end of any worthwhile contribution she might have otherwise made to the world.

She now spends most of her time writing filthy smut that she tries to frame with farfetched plots and deranged characters, but don't be fooled by her bullshit people, its all just smut.

I was a big pile of mushy heart emojis the entire time I was reading this. If it were possible to give it more than five stars I would.

Akira started tracing little hearts into the sand, writing with the tip of his finger. ‘R-A-I-D-E-N’ he traced. Of all the human words, that one was by far his favorite.

It begins with some innocent lurking, and then a terrible storm on the ocean, a quickly sinking boat, and a rescue. Yes, the similarities to the little mermaid are there, but it doesn't even come close to the intensely innocent joy this story has.

✔️MM
✔️Merman/human
✔️Hurt/comfort
✔️Celibate hero
✔️No huge drama or miscommunication
✔️Ends with a wonderful hfn
✔️There is a second book!

One of the most sweetly precious and genuine love stories I've read in a long time. The art inside this story just wraps it all in the most perfect little bow.

Finally a five star BR for us Dan! Leave it to Amelita to melt our hearts.

*Dreamy sigh* Hands down one of the best written mermen love story out there. Sweet, charming and totally adorable. It was worth revisiting this tale.

Original review: Heavily edited version

Very sweet, charming, cute and heartwarming! 😍 Totes adorb! 😌 Freaking loves this fairytale retelling. 💙 It was so rare to see a nice, cleverly-written mermen stories out there and Miss Rae totally delivered smoothly on this one. 👏 This was a pleasantly surprise read from her usual erotic, sexy, quirky smut stories. The love story between Raiden and Akira was totally dreamy and magical. It was so satisfying to see how much Raiden loved Akira and cared for him and prepared in advance for 10 years while relentlessly finding for Akira. Thank god the second book is already out because I’d die from frustration if I have to wait in between. I’m in love!

This story is so wonderfully beautiful. I am totally mellow on the inside.
Raiden has the necessary cash to create the perfect environment for his Beloved and spend years searching for him. It is so lovely how unrelenting he is and with how much dedication he tries to do only the right thing.
Akira is a very interesting character. You get to know him as a self-confident curious boy and then suddenly years have passed and he suffers from loneliness and longs only for warmth.

He was so tired of being afraid and he was so very, very tired of being alone. 😥

And how he blossoms and loses his fear as soon as he is united with Raiden. So so beautiful.

Before he put his hands on him, he paused with question in his eyes. He seemed to be asking for permission. Akira nodded enthusiastically and reached up to him with grabby hands. He didn’t mind it when the man picked him up. He liked it when the man touched him. 💜💜💜

I especially love his grabbing hands 🤩 The whole story is so freaking cute and perfectly innocent. Swoon worthy 😍

****3.5 Stars****Fluffalicious Merlove!

I enjoyed this little mermaidesque tale. Aside from abduction, it was all fluff. Little sex, much tension from our human billionaire.

Our lonely merman is sweet and adorable as all get-up. There is no solid HFN at the end, but I won’t shy away from reading Book 2.

I had been hoping for more pictures, though....here there were only a handful at best.

This book was all monologues. If it wasn’t entertaining, I would have dnf. There were times I did zone out though, but then it got soooo sweet. This has one of my favourite tropes. language-barrier/mute mc. When he taught Akira how to say things, that just melt me. And then he said Rai-den, damn that was too good not to swoon over.

I loooved the time they spent together trying to understand each other and that they had such deep connection although this was a short book. Credits to the illustrations, it was PERFECT! I couldn’t stop looking at them.

He decided to try bargaining with him, “If you study for ten more minutes, I’ll give you ten kisses.” ‘A hundred,’ Akira signed back with a cheeky grin.

THE ENDING IS EVERYTHING! <3<3

A very sweet and fluffy installment from Rae! And it's mermen!!

I really enjoyed reading about the anatomy of the mermans in this world, I've never really thought about the mix between human and fish before.

This is meant to be read straight before the second one, there's no cliffhanger or anything but their relationship is definitely left unfinished.

Also super keen on all the illustrations throughout the book, loved those little snipets.

Thank you to Rain for recommending this one to me. It definitely lived up to how adorable it was!!

I can now tick merpeople off my reading bucket list (my goal for the last 2 years being reading everything and anything to expose myself to as many different genres and tropes as possible) and it was so damn cute! I loved the little added artworks throughout as well. This one was short and sweet, but had everything a story needs.

I liked this! It was adorable and sweet and a bit… strange, but the cuteness overruled that strangeness.

Raiden is a young man who gets into trouble with his sailboat on the sea. But instead of drowning he gets rescued. By a mermaid, or more exact, a merboy.

It’s been 10 years, but Raiden has never been able to forget his encounter with his one true love. He is sure the merboy is the one for him, so he has his company do research into the depths of the sea to find the boy. And after 10 years he has finally found him.

Akira is the last of his kind. He is pretty lonely and trying to survive in the sea by himself. But when he gets taken by humans, he is sure they will harm him. That is until he sees the man he has never been able to forget. Akira knows Raiden won’t hurt him, so he accepts wherever it is Raiden is taking him.

Raiden has built the biggest aquarium there is in the world, right in his home. It is there that he takes the boy. He is unsure if Akira will like his new home, but he will do anything to protect the merboy.

Akira is thrilled with his new home. He knows it is not the sea, but it comes pretty close. And of course he loves being close to Raiden.

The two figure out a way to communicate with Akira using his telepathic ability to send images to Raiden when they touch, and Raiden learns Akira sign language. Since Akira has no vocal cords, he will never be able to speak. But that doesn’t stop Raiden and Akira from falling in love…

These guys were so sweet together. I loved how much Raiden cared for Akira and how much he wanted to see him happy. And Akira was just adorable.

What did bother me at first was that Raiden kept thinking of Akira as adolescent, and that would have been weird because they kissed each other (passionately) 10 years ago, and that meant Akira would have been a child. But I was glad it was explained later on in the book that Akira simply looked young, but was in his late 20s. It would have been nice if that was explained sooner. Especially because Raiden kept calling Akira a boy.

There are some sexy times at the end, but they’ve just begun exploring that part when it ends, but no worries, there is a part two. I’m not too sure about this merman sex though….

Omg this is so dang cute.
ONE KISS and Raiden turned up the entire sea to find Akira 🥹
I absolutely love the illustrations.

Just bugs me how many ways, and how many times the mcs are described.

"The tall man"
"The ceo"
"The billonaire"
"The dark-haired man"
"The strong man"
"The older man" he's only in his 30s 🙄
"The slender boy"
"The blonde boy"
"The boy"
"The merboy"

Wee bit annoying
I still love them, tho. Off to their next book.

When Aki thought cum was happiness 🤭

"Akira’s mind was whirling, he felt like he was going to explode from all the happiness inside him. It felt like his joy would just come bubbling up and shoot out every opening. That's probably what the white sticky stuff was; happiness."

This was sweet and cute and adorable! This is why I keep coming back to yaoi novels =)

Innocent and sexy at the same time. Did I mention actual illustrations? I am going to add my own findings in a few minutes just to keep the menfolk love going :)

This is how I felt after finishing this novel

How to describe this? The story has inklings of The Little Mermaid and Splash (which are the obvious comparisons) sprinkled in with tales of first love, obsession, millionaire tycoon and M/M first sexual experiences! What’s not to love?!?

It was pretty great all in all.

There were a few spelling errors which were irksome and I didn’t love the writing style, but the story made up for it.

4.5 and on to number 2…..

Sweet and magical. The little merboy's tears turn into pearls as they fall... is there anything more lovely than that? Amelita Rae's Out of the Sea is the first part of the Beloved series.

The story of a wealthy businessman who returns the favor of a rescue to a young merman (who is the last of his race), the Beloved series is also available in audio, performed by Eddie Leonard Jr. Mr. Leonard does a lovely job with the story. I really enjoy the innocence he brings to Akira's character.

So far so good. Sweet and adorable. Neat to see that Raiden was humble enough to propose that Aiken's IQ might be higher than his. Relationship is developing nicely. Waiting for the "big reveal" sex scene in the next book!

This reads kind of like fan fiction, but I don't mind that. It was a cute novella-length story about a human and a merman. Short and sweet with a tiny bit of spice.

4.5 stars for this wonderful M/M fairytale. I have read a few other books by this same author but self censored giving them reviews because the covers might be offensive to certain people (M/M BDSM). Notwithstanding the covers, this lady writes an entertaining and thought provoking story. I look forward to "Beloved Book 2" (no cliffhanger to worry about, however) and others by this author.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I honestly had not expected such a beautiful story out of this. I don’t normally read fairytale versions of anything, but this was beautifully done. The cover art is what got my attention first as it landed on my GR’s page and I’m happy to say I judged a book by its cover.
I was worried this was going to be the kind of story where the human, Raiden, just wants to trap the merman, Akari, to have all for himself. But it’s not that. At all. Akari longs for a life where he can feel safe and Raiden provides that for him.

The descriptive imagery was incredible. Everything played out in my head like a movie and I was overly excited to have the illustrations included as well. They’re gorgeous and breathtaking.

Glad this one popped up in my life. About to go finish the second one as well. 😝

This ended up just being kind of weird and mostly boring to me. I was looking for the bonkers of Abduction and La Doleur Exquise (okay I can't spell it nor will I look it up), but this was mostly just meh.

It dragged in a lot of places - pages on pages of merman biology (this could be interesting but i was snooze), more pages upon pages of teaching the merman ASL (too long)...I just got bored.

Meh. Finished with skimming.

This is really only the first half of the story, but I might be ok with leaving it here. Akira and Raiden are together (for at least one value of "togetherness"), and I don't feel driven to see their HEA past this point. I mean, they're adorable and all, but...meh? I'm sure they could be steamy but I don't know that I need to spend my time finding out first-hand.

I loved this so much! Akira was so adorably innocent, and Raiden was so determined. There were a couple times I was worried that Raiden's obsession was going to turn the story a creepy way but it didn't and I am so glad! The illustrations were also a wonderful addition to the story.

Amelita Rae is definitely a new favorite of mine, can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens next! Also, can't wait to read other books from this author.

First venture into Yaoi

I had some ideas of what it would be but now I know what to expect. The typical big alpha, powerful, rich, domineering and the small, cute, dependent "boy".
This was sweet though, like a fairytale.
