They were supposed to have been hunted to extinction. But sometimes death is a myth.
This collection includes all three novels in An Assassin's Blade, a dark epic fantasy about an infamous assassin with a woeful reputation, a malevolent nightmare that's returned from beyond the grave, and gods who must die in order for life to prevail.
Book 1: The Misbegotten
Astul, assassin by day and purveyor of secrets at night, has agreed to hunt down a king slayer. Somewhat for the money, a little for the ego, and a bit for the adventure... but mostly for the money.
There's just one problem. The king slayer's trail leads to a cache of disturbing secrets involving insane kings, mad queens and kingdoms suddenly poised for a war to end all wars. People seem to be losing their minds. Or rather, forfeiting them.
Something harrowing lingers and lurks in the world of Mizridahl. And only an infamous assassin with a woeful reputation is aware.
Conjurers have returned.
Book 2: The Miscreant
There is a realm the living were never supposed to visit and the dead were never supposed to leave. The rules have changed.
Astul, an infamous assassin with a woeful reputation, finds his brother's corpse curiously absent from its tomb. This amid accusations that grave robbers are terrorizing the world of Mizridahl. But Astul soon discovers the cadavers aren't being robbed. They're being gathered. Harvested.
A dreadful enigma creeps into Mizridahl, with the might of an army that was never supposed to see the living realm again. Astul lost nearly everything dear to him when conjurers swept across his world four months ago. Now he stands to lose the rest.
Conjurers were the beginning. This is the end. Book 3: The Misjudgment
Gods are real, and it's time for them to die.
Astul, an infamous assassin with a woeful reputation, never believed in gods. As luck would have it, they're quite real. And if they have their way, Astul will be quite dead.
A civil war is brewing between the celestial powers. And all of life hangs in the balance. If victory falls into the wrong hands, creation will begin anew. There's only one way to guarantee that doesn't happen, and it involves the assassination of a lifetime.
Justin DePaoli called Pittsburgh home for twenty-one years, but now lives in Kentucky with his fiancee, stilt-legged German shepherd, two cats, and a company of fish.
Beginning his career as a freelance writer, he now writes fiction full-time.
When he's not writing, he enjoys playing guitar (quite horribly), running, lifting, playing video games, and spending time with his fiancee and menagerie of pets.
A well-done series especially considering that these novels are the first published works of this author. Book 1 remains my favourite and while the third book brings the story to a satisfactory conclusion, it did get bogged down in complexity. Some readers have complained about crude language and, yes, there is swearing, but Astul is an assassin, not a pampered prince, and his characterization was appropriate. That said, there were numerous errors through the three books. Most were simple things where a word was missing or repeated or out of order. There was the occasional error in word usage...shudders and shutters are not the same thing! A proofreader who focuses on details rather than the overall story might help with this. I will definitely read more of this author, however I do have a big concern. The author has stated that he wants to publish a novel every two months. While that might satisfy his readers to a point, I have rarely found authors that can match quantity with quality. Guess we’ll see how things go over the long term.
They were supposed to have been hunted to extinction. But sometimes death is a myth. This collection includes all three novels of An Assassin's Blade, a dark epic fantasy about an infamous assassin with a woeful reputation, a malevolent nightmare that's returned from beyond the grave, and gods who must die in order for life to prevail. Was a complete story, with cliff hangers from one book to the other making you read on and on. There were so rough and boring parts but all in all A good and entertaining read. Good Reading Everyone.
An assassin saves the world from evil wizards, zombies, and gods (one after the other, not all at the same time).
The protagonist, Astul, is leader of an assassin’s guild. As such, his lifestyle involves a lot of throat-slicing and poisoning. But his business can’t thrive when the world is wracked by warfare or overrun by the forces of evil, so when things go pear-shaped, he has to take a side.
As you might expect, this is dark fantasy with a lot of violence and death. There’s also a lot of sexual references and general rudeness. But it’s also funny, highly engaging, and very readable.
The writing is good, though there are a few editing errors and some strange word choices in places. The central characters are interesting and the plot races along, sometimes too fast for its own good, but it’s never dull.
The complete trilogy is available as a single book on Kindle Unlimited, so you can settle in for a nice long read.
I have high hopes when starting a new trilogy, but they are often not fully realized. An Assassin's Blade is one of those rare exceptions where I am sorry the story has ended. There are surprising twists throughout this trilogy and our heroes - Astul, Vayle and Lysa are characters to remember as they fight men, magic and gods across the realms of the living and the dead. A very enjoyable read!
An Assassin's Blade Trilogy by Justin DePaoli is a dark fantasy story that draws you in and keeps you wanting to read more . The main characters are fleshed out nicely and are really what you would expect them to be . The world building is spot on . There is some rough language but then again he is an assassin that goes after a god . So if your looking for a good read and a complete story about an assassin then you need to get this series .
The characters are very well described and I can picture the landscape as well as the clothing everyone is wearing. This is a very suspenseful series and I had to force myself to slow down while reading. I wanted to hurry up and find out what happened next. I encourage everyone to read this series!
By the time I had read more than half of the story I was totally engrossed , but by the time I got to three quarters I was getting all mixed up with the amount of characters within the story. Now the book is finished I am quite convinced the story would be far better 100 pages shorter
I enjoyed every single page! There were a couple of grammer mistakes but minor. The author has such a way with describing the characters and their facial expressions and scene in which the characters find themselves is one of a kind! It was funny and suspenseful. I would highly recommend this trilogy to everyone!!
Can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading this series. What a gifted writer. It's snowing like crazy outside right now and I don't care because I have a new favorite author whose books I will enjoy reading over and over again. Well done Justin. Your ability to describe leaves me with a silly little grin on my face. Love this so much!
this is just part of the story.. there are more available. they can be mostly be read stand alone but are expansions of threads introduced in this trilogy. I would have preferred to read them in sequence
A very enjoyable read, will happily read more from this author. If you don't like swearing you'll not want to read these, I personally think it adds to the scene setting.
It's a never ending heart racing thrill! Enjoyed this book All the way through! Wish there was more, especially more on Lysa Rabthorn! Thanks for such a spectacular read!!!

I enjoyed this set of books. They kept me wanting to find out what was going to happen next. I could do with less of the f word. It isn't necessary to get the point across. There are plenty of other words to use! To me is crass!!!
I thought Justin could have used a better name than the Black Rot, but other than that he wove an interesting tale. It definitely kept me up many the night.
DNF I found the character and narrative voice tiring. It reminded me of a lot of my own (less successful) writing. Some will love this style so I chose to give it three stars. The prose is solid.
I wish I could get my money back! This book was extremely vulgar for no apparent reason. It was as if the author thought the vulgarity could make up for his extremely bad writing. Read at your own peril.
