Everything is BIGGER in Texas!
His scarred face won’t stop her from loving him...

Austin is a defensive lineman trying to keep a low profile. Heather is a television news anchor who bounces into his life while looking to further her career. Beauty and beast both learn something from the other. This is NOT your typical fairy tale.

Austin – Heather is such a pain, but I can’t stop thinking about her. We f*ck like animals at first, but it soon turns into something much deeper. She convinces me to take off my mask, saying there’s nothing wrong with my face. How can someone be so wrong? One thing’s for certain – I’m going to protect myself and her. Together, we’re an unstoppable force.

Heather - Austin and I meet in a crazy way, but I soon find myself unable to keep my hands off his buff, sculpted body. He wears this crazy mask because of a scar, but I can see the him on the inside. My entire life changes when he comes into my life. I’m left scrambling to pick up the pieces while piercing this tough guy’s armor.

DNF @ 65%

Ugh, I just don't even know where to begin with this book. I honestly have never read about a character quite like Heather, she is the epitome of a self-absorbed, narcissistic, selfish asshole. Everything that went wrong in her life was 'somebody else's fault' and her blatant disrespect and lack of empathy were disgusting.

I got paid more and did less actual work than them, but without my pretty face, the station wouldn't get half as many views as they did with me around.

"I pull in the viewers. My beautiful face is what gets us the viewers".

STFU honestly. All her inner monologue was about how blessed everybody around her should feel, she was the definition of god's gift to earth.

The only reason I pushed through this book was because I was hoping that there would be some character development, I was praying that her character was overdone to be this heinous and then would eventually redeem her character—you know that big self revelation, like the fact that they realise they're a bad person suddenly makes up for all the horrible things from the first 80% of the book.

When thinking about how she could possibly get her job back after she was fired (righteously so, since she verbally abused and harassed a stranger) she thinks—

A pity-fuck to save my career shouldn't be out of the question.

This book is just filled with so many issues, there is even the continuous shaming of a woman in a domestic abuse relationship.

Is she giving me advice? Really?

I could add a hundred other direct quotes into this review but I'll honestly save you the distress. It was pure torture getting as far into this book as I did, and there was no character development in sight. Making a character do one 'charitable' act all the while making her feel she is better than this lowly 'work' and these lowly 'people' isn't character development.

Doing one charitable thing doesn't suddenly make you a good person, especially when you're still spewing shit into this world.

.... FEW SPOLIERS>>> HERE AND THERE!!!

Beauty & the Baller by Abbi Hemp by Abbi Hemp

Austin and Heather's story was interesting, they both had their updates and downs. I knew that Grace lady and that doctor was a bit shady. I think she was kind of jealous that Heather was dating Austin. If she were a TRUE friend of Austin, she wouldn't have fired, Heather. I believe he hired that guy to video them, idc what anyone says. Also, I don't know if this book is erotic or romance both in one because half the time they both was busy getting they freak on. Throughout the book.

And end the end Austin did remove his scars after his children went away to college. I like how Heather liked him regardless of his scars. it's also interesting that the author added Patty and Brett story at the end, I knew they were going to get together I was glad when she FINALLY left that abusive husband of here's reading this book and the parts about Patty, had me thinking about the research paper on "violence against women" I am doing for my administration of justice class

COPY RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW
2.5 stars
This is a quick read. The story started off pretty good. The first meeting between Heather and Austin did not go well. It resulted in Heather losing her job and both characters not liking each other. Heather seemed to be a conceited journalist that will roll over anyone to get her story. Austin was supposed to be a big time foot ball player with secrets. He does not like being in public. He has a scarred face and is very self conscious about it. The story has a couple of things that detract from the main story. Heather's best friend and her issues did not add anything to the story. Heather's relationship with her family and the reason they not close was never fully explained. The flow of the story was off. Some of the things that happened did not make sense. Austin introduced marriage to the conversation then was stressed when the she would joke about it. His best friend was in agreement with Heather about the operation to his face hen we first meet him and then it was like he hadn't heard about it the second time Austin bought it up. Sometimes it was hard to follow the conversation as far was who was saying what. It could have been better

Teenager

Was this written by a teenager. The writing was all over the place and didn't flow. Some of the phrases were just off and comical.

not a footballer

little guys playing football is cute. football major league style has become like wwe, choreagraphed and seriously dangerous. this story was about more than the game. one man's struggle to overcome his insecurity about his looks from, not caused by football, but an auto accident that took his parents and left him physically scarred. love of a good woman taught him to let his insecurities go. i really liked this story.

Scars and scares

A terrific story that combines romance and the the horrors of society's rejection because of your looks. Sassy heroine who pushes herself into the life of a scarred professional football player and helps him come to terms with his disfigurement...Hot sexual chemistry and a happily ever after that was perfect!

Mad respect but I absolutely hated this book. I hate DNFing but I was so close to just giving up on this book. It reads as if a 13 year old wrote it on Wattpad: the plot is bad, no character is developed, and It was sssooooo rushed. Peace and love xoxo

No one else will scold you like I do, but remember that no one else will love you like I do. All I want, is for you to be the best you can be. I love you, son.

This was a good sports romance. Love conquers all obstacles no matter the cause. It was a very moving read.

The characters were all assholes. I hated both fmc and the love interest. The smut was cringey and I had to skip through it. I don't recommend.

>Book Review – Beauty and the Baller

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is a standalone bad boy sports romance and ends in an HEA. Austin is a professional football player with a burn on his face so severe; he wears a mask to hide his face. His self-esteem is low for a professional athlete. So much so he is willing to try an experimental procedure to grow new skin. This plot point was actually the reason I scored this book so low. The author seemed to be setting up this doctor as shady. There is a scene where Austin gives out his credit information over the phone to the nurse. As she is taking down his information, she is whispering to someone in the background. I felt that this behavior would naturally lead to Austin losing a lot of money due to credit card fraud. To my surprise, nothing came of this plot point.

>Heather is a beautiful news anchor. I had a hard time liking her. She only thought of herself and how her career could be aided. She starts to work for a non-profit for burn and scar victims, started by Austin. This part of the story was confusing later on. Heather is relatively famous. She actually cares and does her best for this group, yet the head of the group does a complete 180 later on and fires her. No build up as to why.

>Heather and Austin’s relationship could have been beautiful. She loved him looking as he does. He regains his self-esteem. Some of their interactions are so juvenile though. Austin is actually hurtful in a few scenes. The abused best friend causes Austin and Heather to move in together, but we don’t really get a glimpse into their everyday life and love.

> This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the book 3 stars. If you are looking for a football book, look somewhere else. Other than a few locker room and coach’s office scenes, there aren’t any football scenes. Some of the players are introduced, including a quarterback who hates Austin, but no backstory is given explaining why. This book has great potential, but misses the mark.

My 1st book read, written by Abbi Hemp ... & will not be the last ... if you are a sports fan ... it seems that is her style. the football hotties of the world come to play in her books. For me it reminds me of Beauty and the Beast or Phantom of the Opera 'cause of the mask ... Austin has a burn on his face, which 'cause causes him to wear a mask to cover it up so others don't stare. I think we ALL have a mask of sorts we all wear to cover up our flaws. Heather is so understanding, does overlook his face or other flaws he might have, even if she a meanie straightforward in your face interviewer, trash writer, one who is looking for the gossip about the big NFL football player, who tries to get an interview with Austin all about his scars. Must read, loved it! I will be reading more of Abbi's work soon. ( ;

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book....

Disappointed. The plot was great and had so much potential. The hidden meaning was a great message. There were areas of the story that could have been expanded upon. I loved how Heather could see past Austin's scars and how Austin grew throughout the story. Heather ended up being a likable character towards the end. There were aspects of the story that could have been left off as it didn't add to the plot at all. Patty and Brett's story is one aspect and is really a separate book all together. What about the Doctor Austin saw about surgery? That was another angle of the story that had so much potential that just dropped off in the middle of no where.

I received this ARC for an honest review. I can honestly say this was the first book that I read from this author and it was enjoyable. I did not like Heather at the beginning. To me she was cold and heartless and only out for herself. But Austin really what is there not to love. Once you get into the story the coldness that Heather has does change and she sees Austin for who he really is not his looks. I love this book and the story line that is written with Austin. This was a book that can easily keep from interested from beginning to end. I highly recommend and hope to read more by this author in the future.

At the start of this book, I didn't care at all for Heather. She came off as conceited and just not very likable, IMO. I did like Austin - he's gruff and just wants to be left alone in the beginning, but there's a reason for that. Once Heather stops relying on her pretty face to get her places, her caring nature starts to show and I began to like these two together. That, along with an easy to follow storyline, redeemed this one for me. It's a bit predictable at times but it's a fairly quick and easy read - good for a lazy afternoon, curled up on the couch.

I loved this book from the beginning. It is really true that pure love is blind and this book is the perfect demonstration of this phrase. Austin is a football player, victim of a car accident that leaves him with a terrible scar on his face. Heather is a beautiful journalist that needs to interview Austin to keep her job. Their worlds collide and from there on their lives will be intertwined giving them the chance to build a solid relationship that will last through years. A book filled of love and tenderness, I highly recommend it.

She is beautiful on the outside but cold underneath. Meeting him and seeing underneath the scarred surface, changes her.

Heather is not a nice woman in the beginning. Her work is all that matters and she doesn't care for who she hurts. When she meets Austin, she feels an intense attraction. She doesn't see the scars. It is an interesting take on Beauty & the Beast. I loved seeing them together. They really bring out the best in each other.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Very good story

Austin is a football player who was scared during a car accident that killed his parents . Heather is a reporter that has one chance and her career is over . These two are like milk and honey something they mix sometimes not but when they do it's sweet. Very good story.

Some people judge you by your looks. I was always told to "Never judge a book by it's cover." This applies with people too. It's worse sometimes when you judge yourself. After years of self-judgement, Austin finally is happy with himself. He says Heather changed him.

Sometimes, love lasts forever and change you. Loved the story.
