"Beyond Recovery receives an A+A friend told me that She was reading Beyond Recovery and she could not put it down. I was a little skeptical but followed her recommendation. I absolutely delighted that I did. It's not only a great, albeit at times, heartbreaking story of the author's experience as a child being introduced to drugs and alcohol too early in life and his subsequent trouble with addiction, his road to recovery, and the ultimate purpose he has found in serving others. It takes courage to write a book like this and talent to do it well. Shawn Langwell has plenty of both, as he weaves his way through the stories of his life, from childhood to his journey through abandonment, alcoholism, and the path to lasting sobriety. More than just a memoir of hardship, this book is a powerful exploration of redemption, healing, and self-forgiveness. Langwell shares deeply personal experiences, from his troubled childhood in the 1960s to his struggles with self-esteem, resentment, and fear. The book details his downward spiral into addiction, the pivotal moment when he realized another drink could kill him, and the tools he used to stay sober. I cheered for him as he found forgiveness for himself and the people who have hurt him in his lifetime. While I’m not usually one to cry, I can say with certainty that those who do will need tissues for some of the heartbreaking losses shared in these pages. Ultimately, this is a story of resilience and transformation—one that will leave readers moved, inspired, and cheering for Langwell’s remarkable success.
