Rainy is enjoying her first slice of summer in Latney. Until a dead body disrupts her plans. Tasked with doing a favor for Pastor Declan Murphy, Rainy stumbles upon the body of one of his elderly congregants. The inept Sheriff Lewis soon attempts to implicate Rainy in the person's death, even though she’s never met them before. Rainy immediately begins looking into the victim's life in order to clear her own name, and soon finds more than a few folks who might have wanted the person dead. The more Rainy digs, the more potential culprits she discovers. With the sheriff breathing down her back, Rainy knows she needs to act fast if she wants to avoid being a suspect herself and salvage summer…and her innocence. There’s just one problem. She knows someone is lying to her about their involvement in the death. She just can’t figure out who.

I love this series!!!! Who knew a quilting competition could be deadly!! When Rainy was asked by pastor Declan to help deliver meals for a week to help out, Rainy would get caught up in another death. Sheriff Lewis is making it known that Rainy had something to do with it. Now she has to clear herself, and start to investigate. It gets complicated with several people who had a grudge against Greta. Rainy, has to question people for information and it is hard when Sheriff Lewis is going around telling people to keep an eye on Rainy, the number 1 suspect. She was in the house, her finger prints were there, but no motive. Now read to find out. You will be surprised!!!!
A decent, reliable series thus far, but nothing to get excited about.
Not bad for a "cozy mystery" series. The mysteries aren't ground breaking, but they're not ridiculously obvious or impossibly obscure. I'm becoming weary of the love triangle, though. I'm actually most frustrated with Declan. He is obviously pursuing his attraction to Rainy despite the fact she is a woman of no faith and no apparent interest in faith. She is not seeking God: she's indifferent as far as we can tell. He is not obviously concerned with this fact. This lowers my opinion of his own faith several notches.
This third book in the series has to be my favourite book so far. Rainy Day is accused of murder, but she only found the body. This slice of small town mysteries is a pleasure to read without any clue to the murderer until the finale.
I have binge read the whole series so far. So I'm off to download the next book in the series. I'm going to be so sad when its over. Surprise ending too!!!
Love this book. Jeff Shelby writing only gets better. Rainy Day has to find the killer before she is arrested. Throw in two handsome men and which one should she choose Gunner or Declan
When Rainy agrees to help her friend and town minister, Declan Murphy with some weekly visits to deliver lunches and check up on some elderly residents, the last thing she expected to find was a dead body - but that's exactly what she found. Declan had told her that Greta Hedley was hard of hearing so that if she didn't answer the door, to just walk on in. So, after several tries to get an answer at the door, Rainy entered the house. When she got to the living room, there sat Greta in her chair with a quilt on her lap. She looked like she had just fallen asleep, but Rainy soon realized that was not the case.
Rainy called the Sheriff's office to report her discovery. A few minutes later, the Sheriff pulled up. He took one look at Greta and started questioning Rainy. As hard as it was to believe, the Sheriff was accusing her of having something to do with Greta's death!
Rainy soon realized that if she didn't want to end up in jail, she would need to find out what actually happened to the woman, while trying to stay away from the Sheriff. Could she find the killer - if there really was a killer? Check out this fun Cozy mystery and find out.
