BOOK REVIEW
Release Date-26/7/16

So this was a difficult one for me, on the one hand, I did finish Her Legacy.
But on the other, I found it a struggle to actually get there.
Even skimming in places.
It was only my sheer pig-headed determination that got me to that ultimate end post.
I was so determined to finish this wanting to discover where this was ultimately heading.
Unfortunately for me, I discovered upon arriving at my destination that this book had an actual sequel.
And I'm sorry to say that this is one ride that I won't be continuing on to the next stop with.
Don't get me wrong the premise behind this book was actually very interesting and up until the halfway point here I was still somewhat invested in the whole nine yards.
But Somewhere in the middle of this things went slightly to pot for me and this wasn't working its mojo on me anymore.
So there were a few things here that I found issue with that then managed to derail things somewhat for me.
First Alexis herself, I found her character to be a bit of an odd-duck.
She was described in the context of taking no shit and of being of a feisty nature.
Well, I got the impression that the actual opposite was true, she was constantly hyperventilating and fainting and came across as being of a delicate constitution, very eighteenth-century lady/
Damsel in distress.

tenor.gif

Tucker and Daniel seemed to be her constant wingmen.
Which was a bloody strange happening in itself considering one was her ex and the other her brand new squeeze.
I also wasn't really that invested in Daniel and Alexia's relationship I just wasn't feeling the love if I'm honest, sorry.
I also became quite confused in places as well and found myself having to re-read certain passages to orient myself within the story-line.
There was sometimes too much attention to detail and I would become distracted by the narrative which in itself was of a rather flowery nature.
For example, there were whole chapters dedicated to furniture placement it was such overkill and was also so tedious.
There really was no need for so much extra padding here.
It was not necessary and just lengthened what was already an extremely long read.
All without adding anything substantial to the overall plot.
Also, at times there was such character overload that I had difficulty keeping individuals straight in my head.
And for some weird obscure reason, everyone seemed to have a thing for Alexia like she was some kind of Love goddess.
So this was a bit of a mixed bag of tricks for me.
I really wish I could give this a higher rating overall.
"Her Legacy" wasn't in itself awful, just a bit of a slog for me with a writing style that just wasn't really my bag at all.
This still did have a fantastic supernatural gothicy feel to it and the overall ideas used here were still imaginative and made for an intriguing blurb.
Just a shame that ultimately this just wasn't really my thing.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with a copy of "Her Legacy (The Foster House Legacy #1)" of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Unfortunately I had to call it quits on this one at 60%. I say unfortunately because the plot itself was really interesting. Alas the execution of said plot was lacking.

The writing just didn't flow for me. Way too many unnecessary details...

"With the blood now back in her legs she headed for the door. Passing through the arched doorway she strolled to the open corridor behind the grand staircases, stopping once to gawk out the windows. The sky had transformed into a dark grayish-black, reminding her of the storms she’d seen as a kid before a tornado hit."

Everything was described to the nth degree. The heroine couldn't just bump into a chair, she had to bump into an antique high back Victorian chair.

Alas, it just became too distracting for me to ignore.

Alexis has found that she's inherited the family's long forgotten estate, The Foster House. After moving into the house though Alexis finds herself surrounded by spirits and and a mysterious history. Not only does Alexis need to find out her family's secrets but an evil entity has enlisted the help of Brenton Young to manipulate Alexis’s life for his own dark purposes.

I really wanted to like Her Legacy, I mean look at that amazing cover. But unfortunately this one just wasn't for me. Alexis was an OK character and the idea behind the story should have been interesting enough but I spend most of the book really bored and just waiting for it all to grab me.

The story started off alright, move into old creepy mansion and things start happening etc. Alexis is an empath which also adds a bit to the tale. But it just seemed to stall out a bit waiting to figure out what this all meant. At about 70% I was expecting to finally get clear answers but that scene turned into just more questions. Around 90% Alexis herself says she needs answers and I'm thinking, well I do too. So needless to say at that point I was pretty turned off at the entire read.

Overall, not really one I'd recommend. Some great ideas but it never really flowed well or picked up any excitement for my tastes.

Wow I do love a good supernatural mixed with history and folklore. We follow heiress Alexis after she inherits the family legacy Foster House that been in the family for a long time, but she knew nothing about. Teresa in her notes alludes to her family’s history and lore, and that’s what make this so believable.
It felt like I was there with Alexis, and it was my family I am hooked. This all starts at a funeral, when we meet Alexis and the story unfolds. Alexis is studying law and an intern at the district attorney’s Office. Suddenly she is thrust into an adventure of supernatural proportions. I not giving anything away except I am absolutely hooked and I need book two now. This is so fascinating all the
History mixed with folklore, I was hooked and right up my alley I couldn’t put it down and I had to get to the end, only to realise there’s another book to come. If you enjoy a good supernatural with plenty of suspense then this is one for you.

Teresa is a new author to me and I was not sure what to expect. So jumping into this one with eyes wide open I was hoping for the best.

For the most part this was a good read with suspense, ghosts and folklore. I mean a blood thirsty house a nasty evil and a young naive law student. The characters were well developed the story had lots and lots of potential. I found it a little slow at times and hard to read but got through the whole story and was surprised to find out there is another book to come.

This book has lots of suspense great characters but there was something missing. I don't quite know what it was. I am not sure if it was the author's style of writing or if it was something else.

If you are looking for this type of read give this one a read, I find it has a mix of likes and dislikes and everyone is different. I fully intend to read the next book and looking forward for it to come out.

First time in reading this author I was thinking I got Blood ties but received this one instead. Good thing too because for this series and the way the story goes it really should be gotten at the beginning. When you first encounter Alexis you soon even feel her predicament but then along comes Josh and their story has captured you. Follow along with how unique she is and what is happening. Mystery is big on the forefront with you getting trapped until the answers appear. When it really gets deep you are left with them wanting more but wait is what will have to happen.

This gripping thriller will have you on the edge of your seat just about the entire read. Hang onto your seats and keep a blanket handy for you may just need it. I love Her Legacy. Little by little as everything unravels in Alexis's world you get a special treat fit for the Halloween season. The more you learn about Alexis, her family and the house the more you want to know and wont be able to put her down. You must read this and that is all I'm saying. A fantastic hid under the covers read and I can't wait to see where it goes.

I really loved this story from the beginning, and I know many people will say there is too much detail or it feels too long. This book had to be epic in length; the story is so big and encompasses so many people as it goes along that it needed the length to get us to the absolutely killer CLIFFHANGER. This spooky-scary-on-the-edge-of-your-seat story needed the cliffhanger to stun the audience. So just keep reading. Lucky for you, she’s already gotten Bloodties out so you can binge read the whole thing.

To the story. I loved Alexis’ relationships with all her men, as I like to call them. My one complaint about Alexis is how clumsy and damsel in distress she is in this first novel. The layout of the story is very well done. There is family drama, a little bit of history revealed, more intrigue than Angela Landsbury gave in Murder She Wrote, and lots of details that will be a part of the rest of the series. And oh my, the build-up to the end has you on the verge of a heart attack before she quickly closes the chapter on this one. I’m giving it a 5 of 5 because I love the pace, it’s one of the only books I’ve had the pleasure of reading more than once and loved it each time, and because I believe Alexis will get superpowers in the next one. So pick up a copy, make some hot chocolate or a whiskey, and settle in for a spooky read. Enjoy!!!

Her Legacy (The Foster House Legacy Series Book 1)

by Teresa Crumpton

This book was a great read. I plan on reading the next book in this set. You have it all in this book, mysteries, magic, romance, and a heavy plot, family secrets. I started reading it yesterday after a long day and this AM I finished it. I love the fact that his heroine doesn’t need anyone to save her. It is hard to find books like that. At first, it seemed like we would never to get to the whole plot of the book. It was a bit slow, but that was turned on its head. Once we got through the background it came together. The cliffhanger! UGH, I hate them. I have this feeling that book two will help me. I saw a book two and I am not sure if that is the end of the story. The writing was well done. the way she described the settings was wonderful it makes it so easy to see how the house looked or the apartment. While she is a new to me author, I am so glad that I picked this book. The haunted house is a favorite genre of mine.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. You need to pick it up. I got it on kindle unlimited.

This is the first book by Teresa I have read. I read this book for a blog tour. I really liked the story and characters. But the way it was formatted was hard to read. Normally this doesn’t affect my reviews but this one was exceptionally hard to read. That being said I loved the story. There is mystery, romance, paranormal, and is dark. Alexis’s whole life is turned upside down when her uncle dies. Not just because of his death but because of the things she learns after his death. Alexis is an empath but soon begins to have other abilities. She is caught in a horrible situation because of things that date generations back. She is at the center of a prophecy. Only time will tell how things will turn out. The characters in this book are fantastic and leap off the page. I was sucked in by the story and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and finding out more about Alexis and her family.

I enjoyed reading this book. I give this book a 3.5.

Teresa Crumpton is a new author for me, I found the plot engaging, interesting and the characters were likeable. I loved the concept of the storyline, about a young woman inheriting her families haunted mansion. I believe this was a great start to a great series.

My only issue was it ended too quickly; I would have loved to see more of the story developed before it ended.

This story reminded me of novels written long ago which there was a bit of everything to it.
Overall I did enjoy reading Her Legacy and look forward to see what the author is has up her sleeve for the rest of the series.

Typically I love this genre, but this book was just hard for me to get into. I was drawn to this book by the blurb feeling the book would be right up my alley, unfortunately it wasn’t. At the beginning you were bombarded with the fast-pace of the book, but then it kind of stalls. The overall premise of the book is fantastic- gothic, supernatural read, but the execution is lacking. This is the first time I’ve read this author and I would try her again.

I love me a good paranormal thriller and I was so excited to dive into this one. I was actually hooked when I came across the synopsis to book 2 in the series but quickly learned that these books MUST be read in order.

Book one had me full of plenty of questions right off the bat that I was hoping I would get answers to as the book progressed. What I found was that there was so much information flying at me that it took some time to wrap around exactly what was happening. This book is very detailed almost to the point of making it hard to read in places. I did find myself skimming some paragraphs to get the basic idea of what was going on but then other times I had to read every word because I was so engrossed in what was happening.

I think that the story line was unique and catching. The relationships between the characters was unusual as well. Alexis is the main character, but we get to see a lot of her ex, her best friend and her current love interest.

Full lots of suspense and mystery I am hoping book 2 sheds some light on the mystery of the Foster House.- By Alisa

Disappointing. Ends in a cliffhanger.

The plot of a haunted house was good. I found it confusing at times. Alexis acted like a teenager when it came to her lovelife. I found it boring in many parts. I did not understand why certain characters were in the story. I was very frustrated of how little information Alexis found about the house and her family. The family ghosts were not not forthcoming when they communicated with her. At times, I found them hostile to her. Ends with a cliffhanger.

A mysterious inherited family estate and an empath MC sounds like it has all the makings of a great plot. However, the momentum was slow going and I wanted more in the way of answers. I wanted to like this one, but aside from the setting and the interesting/creepy tone it just never expanded in the way I had hoped.

The history and folklore aspect was well done with the haunted legacy Alexis inherited. I was also hoping for a faster pace and honestly, less description. It stalled on me. I Would try Teresa Crumpton’s next book though.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. And I’m sorry – but it’s about to get REAL HONEST. I read a ton, and I’ve only ever given a review this bad to two other books. The story as described in the blurb was not played out in this book. Maybe that's the description of what the entire series will be? Much more time was spent with the main character having "episodes" of various kinds. The plot had extreme promise. The main character killed it. She’s whiny and immature, and for some reason when she laughs too hard, she always hyperventilates, and either her ex or her new crush has to hold her on his lap and softly talk her through re-controlling her breathing like a little kid, then there’s a whole aftermath of needing an ice pack, and some pain reliever, and plenty of rest. One episode of laughing, and she’s out of commission for a few hours. And the laughing/hyperventilating has nothing to do with the plot. She also can’t decide if she’s a sultry temptress who uses the f-word a lot or a fragile flirt who says things like “this sucks dishwater” and “crap on a cracker”. One character apparently turns British a third of the way through the book. He starts using words like “mates” and “bloke” and starts a lot of sentences with “Blooming!” and “Smashing!” He didn’t talk like that at all in the beginning.

Plot holes abound. There is a former special ops guy tracking Alexis and trying to covertly communicate with her, but apparently he’s lost all of his special training because he just finds himself foiled at every turn. The police found the listening devices! Now what do I do? When he tells her they need to meet, she tells him she has company, come on over. He walks in, they speak, she leaves the room and he wonders off to mingle with the house party (all dudes, actually the police - he's not supposed to know), does not talk to Alexis, she goes to bed, the next morning, everyone is like, I guess he stayed the night too, we didn’t see him leave. And… he’s downstairs making pancakes (?!). Then it skips to a different day. During this same fake house party, everyone was surprised to see a strange woman at the door, she walks in, hugs one of the detectives, he calls her by name, and then it’s like she never existed. We don’t know why she showed up, how she got there (because everyone else had to be buzzed in or have the gate code), or where she went.

Most of the book is spent rambling around a creepy mansion with ghosts with an army of detectives and police from various agencies and her new crush the District Attorney (boss on her internship), and every time things get really serious, they also call the best friend (also a guy) and the ex (a med student) to come over too. So every time she laughs too hard, gets overrun with emotion, or gets attacked by a ghost, doctor boy has to come bring his medical bag and give her a full exam (in the living room with all the detectives and police chilling out, and the new crush holding her) And despite these scenarios this is not one of those weird multi-sided romance books. It’s just supposed to be a mystery. But unfortunately all of her special needs and flirtation and all this ridiculous fawning over her completely overtake the story. Literally, there are no other women in the story for about 95% of the book.
AND - it doesn't end. It's not even like a cliffhanger... it just stops in the middle of something, no resolution to anything. I will NOT be reading more of the series. The author says in the acknowledgments that the story is based on actual family lore and legend she was told. That is fantastic - if the story were more about that, it would have been great. If the author reads this, please know that the lore and legend part was really cool. It just didn't make up enough of the story.

My mom is a huge fan of Gothic fiction. Give her a creaky old house and a dark & stormy night, and she’s your woman. I suppose that’s in my blood to some degree, too. Haunty things are my friend.

The premise of the book is a solid one for the genre: woman inherits family home. Family home is haunted. Not just haunted, it is almost alive in its own right, and it wants her in its clutches. Of course, a bloodthirsty house isn’t quite enough: there’s a nasty character that wants Alexis for entirely different, and more nefarious, reasons.

I liked the creep factor in this story. I wish it had been a little darker, but that’s me. My tastes tend toward the twisted (I was going to say “truly twisted,” but that’s just too many ‘T’s.) Alexis is facing some serious issues.

I’m not sure how I felt about Alexis. On one hand, she gets through some pretty trying stuff in the story, and she has a talent I enjoy–empathy. However, she’s a little…delicate, maybe, for my taste. She seems to faint a lot, that’s for sure! She read very much like an old-school Gothic heroine, the enjoyment of which may be a matter of taste. I don’t get much into a heroine that needs rescuing all the time, at least not in a modern novel.

Then there’s the style. It’s not badly written at all. It’s just a lot. Ms. Crumpton uses the maximum of words to describe things. This is appropriate (or at least, expected) in a lot of historical and speculative fiction, where much of the environment is foreign, but sharing too much information in a contemporary piece feels funny. You can portray a room’s character without describing every piece in that room. Sometimes, it’s just a table, not an Italian art deco 1930’s walnut dining table.

I get it. That’s something I struggle with in my writing too: you want so badly for a reader to see exactly what you see in your mind. But what I’ve learned as a reader is that I don’t want to hear every detail from the author. I make up much of it in my mind’s eye. That’s the way I’ve come to write. Get the general atmosphere across, and let the reader fill in the rest.

The pacing was also a little unsteady. A lot happens right away, but then things drag for a while. Action came in fits and starts that didn’t feel smooth. It seemed like I never got all the information I was looking for. This is a series, so I’m certain that there will be more answers doled out as things go along, but there needs to be a good dose in each book, too, or it gets difficult to read.

Overall, I found HER LEGACY a decent read–something different for me, which has been the theme this summer. I would be very interested in reading the rest of the series, to see how things develop. This is one of those books that I wish I was a first reader or editor for. There’s so much potential, it just needs a strong edit or two to bring that out. Give it a try for yourself.

For 60% of this book I was really enjoying it. I found the story interesting and engaging, and the characters were starting to develop. I loved the premise of the novel, about a young girl inheriting a dark and spooky mansion, with a magical history. It was all very mysterious. I think this had the potential to be a really great read.

The downside was that the writing style didn't fit the genre. There was one too many instance of heat induced flushes, and collapsing into the hunky man's arms. It had more of a feel of a Mills and Boon romance. It got to the point where the constantly collapsing heroine started to get on my nerves.

The worse aspect of the novel was the way that the end just cut off with no warning. I had to check my kindle as I thought I had a download error and I had chapters missing -apparently not. The story was building to some form of conflict and it never happened. I was so disappointed.

I think this has the makings of a great book (or series). I think the author needs to make her writing style more appropriate to the genre, and calm down the cheesy teenage love story, and make it a bit more grown up, and make the heroine a bit stronger, and give this book a decent ending.

This book took me by far the longest time to read this year (and I've been reading plenty).

The plot had me interested, but it was moving so slowly I nearly called it quits.

Even though the female lead was likable, the reader doesn't get to know her that much.
Then there was her always being weak and fainting...I was like “hey I thought you were the heroine“ (way too much dependent on others for my likelyness).

What else bothered me were the german words used.
Well, I am german so I suppose what I found really weird IS really weird.
Nouns are written like that: Hexe, Vorfahren, Blut.... the first letter is capital
And it's Blut NOT Blüt.

All in all it was an okay read for me, but I wouldn't continue to read the series.

I have a thing for haunted houses, so when I read the description I was totally on board to review! To my surprise this also had some supernatural vibes to it, which I highly enjoyed since it’s been a while that I have read from such a genre.
Alexis receives a hefty inheritance from her uncle and apart of this is a beautiful house which she had her eye on for a long time! She finds out that this house has a long history. Alexis has a legacy, it’s one complex ride to find out what it is!
I enjoyed the mystery and suspense in finding out the things Alexis learns. Her many trips to the library had me perplexed and entertained on the answers and questions plaguing her. As I read in other reviews about too much filler, it didn’t bother me much for I am one for details. The one thing that was hard was the attention I had to keep up with the characters, I did get confused and had to go back to reread. I do recommend this story and would definitely read from this author again.

I really wanted to love this book. I was hooked by the blurb and had high expectations but it didn't quite make it. I really never felt connected and spent a lot of the book just trying to figure out who was what and how they were connected. A lot of information is given and there are some really good aspects of the book but unfortunately it just didn't flow well and felt choppy. I haven't read this author before but wanted something different and was hooked by the cover. This isn't a standalone so I will be continuing mainly because I want an ending. Lex is supposed to be a hard core but we haven't seen that part yet, although we have seen that she will verbally stand up for herself. There's a house that is haunted by spirits and a past that her family has hidden from her. While pieces have surfaced there is still plenty to resolve and I will be along for the ride.

I am going to say I really wanted to love this book. The blurb was intriguing, the premise fascinating, and the cover is amazing. Sadly though I had trouble loving it once I started. The author does an amazing job on the descriptive elements however it is to amazing. The details overshadow a lot of the story itself. don't get me wrong details are needed however here I found myself skipping a large portion of the book due to the over zealous descriptions. I unfortunately did not finish this one because I didn't connect with it.
