Not what I anticipated. The author spent a lot of time on specific cultural ideas, such as, medicine, or Yin and yang or wushu. I was hoping for the book to be focused more on history. Although these matters influence history, I was looking for more of a systematic approach to a broad overview of one of the most influential nations in the world. it seems like the author spent a lot of time early on in the book fleshing out details, which made the end of the book and more recent years of Chinese history much more rushed. Trying to capture thousands of years of history is difficult, and to do it in such a brief short of pages is a valiant effort. I would say this book strived to achieve a noble goal, but fell short. Worth the read if you are looking for a quick and brief history of China. But I would not plan on getting much substance from it.

I've been introduced slightest here and there about Chinese histories from Chinese classic books and novels i read, and this book helps me alot to settle the timeline of those all I've been curious so much

Some good info, but this book is very poorly organized. Like, a total mess. For the casual reader seeking a light intro to Chinese history (like me), I would suggest looking elsewhere.

I cannot claim to be an expert in Chinese history, but this book contains several major historical inaccuracies, some of them quite obvious. In one of them, the author states that Kung Fu: 'goes back to over 1.7 million years ago'. I highly doubt it. The earliest finds of modern Homo sapiens skeletons date to 200,000 years ago. Something's not quite right.
