Moonlight Brigade

Rate this book
A big city animal-fantasy/adventure series for fans of Warriors and Redwall!

Kit may have saved the Wild Ones from the Flealess, but he and his neighbors are not out of danger yet. Coyote has taken charge of the Thunder River Rompers, a notorious gang of nearsighted otters, and he has his sights set on Ankle Snap Alley. When, on the eve of the First Frost, Coyote and his henchmen steal all of the seeds and nuts that the Alley's residents have stored up for winter, Kit knows that he can't sit by and do nothing. As he tries to fulfill his school assignments and win himself a coveted invitation into the Moonlight Brigade, Kit knows he must outsmart the Coyote so that his fellow Wild Ones can survive the winter. With so much depending on him, it's time for Kit to pull off his greatest trick yet and save the community he now calls home. Howl to snap!

Praise for  The Wild Ones :

“Raccoon hero Kit and his ragtag community of creatures will sneak their way into your imagination and steal your heart. They may pick your pocket, too, but they’ll take you on an adventure you won’t soon forget. This is a fantasy that kids will adore (and quick-of-paw parents will steal). A wild ride from a wildly imaginative author.”--Katherine Applegate, Newbery Medal-winning author of  The One and Only Ivan  and the bestselling Animorphs series

"Bold deeds, betrayals, and buffoonery kick off this series with gusto."-- Kirkus Reviews

"The sharp, lively descriptions ('like dynamite in a silk purse') shine while the exhilarating finale illustrates that home is wherever your 'howl to snap' friends live."-- Publishers Weekly

"Readers will root for Kit as he tangles with scoundrels, liars, and even a hungry crocodile....A promising new series for fans of animal adventure."-- School Library Journal

Ellie saw the raccoon on the cover of this book and then read the back of it at the library. She checked it out because it looked interesting. She is reading this one instead of Nancy Drew because we need to return this one..krb 1/10/18

Ellie has already ordered the first book in this series from the library. She really enjoyed reading about the animals...krb 1/12/18

I figured the story was slightly going to drag in book two, and surprisingly it did not. Everything fits into a neat little can like dog food. There's something really flowing about London's works, there's this perfect amount of action and not bogging things down with details.

The raccoons are, as the first book was, amazing. Kit's character growing slowly is sort of expected in these kinds of books, and while I'm glad they didn't do one lesson per book, the lessons he's learning should stay permanently learned, hopefully.

Tiny nitpicks were just the urge to see more of the Rat Queen and Uncle Rik, as well as the Flealess, but that's not bound to happen when the plot revolves around elsewhere.

If you liked book one, you'll love book two. How many books have a coyote facing off with a raccoon after all?

London is such a great, fun writer, and Kit is such a great character. I picked this up knowing I would enjoy it precisely as much as I did!

I liked this sequel book; it expands on the original story's setting, and has the appearance of old characters, too! I don't think this one is as good as the first, but it's just as equally charming!

In the sequel to The Wild Ones, Kit the young and brave raccoon hero from the first book in the series, and other young animals from Ankle Snap Alley, must begin their schooling. Traveling to school, via flying bats, they meet their new teacher Mr. Timlinson, a fox. He teaches by taking his young students on field trips, developing their skills of survival though challenging tasks. Kit, doesn't realize how desperately he'll need these lessons, and much more to defend Ankle Snap Alley against a coyote and his tough river otter accomplices. These nasty, sneaky animals have stolen all of the winter stores of food that the animal community of Ankle Snap Alley has saved for the winter. They won't survive without their food. This sequel does not disappoint, it's full of non stop action and surprising twists and turns. However, to fully appreciate this highly suspenseful and entertaining adventure series, with clever and often humorous animal characters, it this recommended that you start with the series opener The Wild Ones to understand the detailed background of this animal saga. This animal adventure tale has characters that readers will truly care about. Readers will then be eager to read the next sequel, introducing a very important new character.

A great thing about this book is that you don't have to read the first in the series to enjoy the one. The young raccoon Kit is living with his uncle in Ankle Snap Alley. The alley is full of rascals and thieves, but they all look out for each other. Their motto, "All of One Paw". When mean and heartless Coyote comes with his gang and steals every bit of food from the alley, Kit must lead his friends to take back what is theirs. I suppose the story could also illustrate how important it is for a community to work together, regardless of differences, if they want to survive. But despite that, this is an exciting animal adventure that many readers will enjoy.

What an absolutely delightful second adventure for Kit, Eeni, and the rest of the Wild Ones. There's plenty of adventure, mayhem, and suspense to make this next story a real claw-biter from Howl to Snap!

The story is clever and I love the relationship between Kit and Eeni. Sometimes I feel the writing is too on-the-nose in terms of morals, but there's some really fun dialogue in this book (e.g., "I chew the toes off danger). The cliff hanger at the end was a nice touch.

Moonlight Brigade is a book by C. Alexander London. It is the second book in the series. Kit is the lead character who needs to save them. A coyote attacks and steals all of there nuts and seeds. Kit tricks him into letting him get canned food. The coyote will be back in 2 days to retrieve the canned food. Kit gets the canned and gives it to the coyote and Ankle Snap Valley gets there nuts and seeds back. Uncle Rik also gets saved from the coyote.

Personally I didn't really find this book that interesting. It wasn't really my type of book. I wouldn't continue to read this series.

I would recommend this book to a younger audience. If you luke reading about animals going on adventures, them this is a good book for you. Boys and girls would both like this book.
