Marisa
This should be a love story. Everything’s in place for it to be. The perfect lines, the perfect souls, but you see, Justin thinks it’s a game. He thinks I’m his pawn, but he couldn’t be more wrong. Every move he makes, I’ll block him. Every time he thinks he’s about to seize me, I’ll run. Some men underestimate the power of the queen because they’re too busy playing king. They forget she’s the most powerful piece on the board. And love is not a game I’m apt at losing.
What will it take for him to realize I’ll never be his pawn, but I’ll happily play his queen?
Justin
She wants a love story. And while I’ve set it up just like I do my own stories, it’s not love I’m after, it’s the chase. Marisa thinks she can outplay me. Even though I’m always one step ahead of her, she keeps me on my toes, which is why don’t underestimate her. Not one bit, but it seems she forgets the game’s not over until the king is dead.
And she’ll never kill me, because I’ll make her love me. And then, checkmate, I win.
Love is not a game, but the chase certainly is.

White Pawn is about a handler who manipulates people as though they are simply disposable pieces on a chess board. There are two players with two different agendas in this story, but only one outcome. Ahhhh, yes, let the games begin!

 photo IMG_4849_zpsu6j4cbzm.gif

The reader meets Marisa Dawson on the day she's discharged from the psychiatric unit. She was temporarily hospitalized for a mental breakdown following her fiancé's suicide and is released without any stipulations. Upon being discharged and having to face her new life without John, she redirects all of her energy on to her favorite new author, Justin Wild, and becomes obsessed with recreating her own happily ever after. Fast forward to a year later and Marisa has moved from Tennessee to New York, one step closer to her favorite author.

This book was one of those page-turners--too engrossing for me to put down! Marisa was admittedly a very engaging character, but all of her calculating schemes made her obsession-of-interest appear more like a mindless douche and not her equal. (That's where my rating of this book decreased because I didn't see him as being worthy of her, her unhealthy fixation, or any niceties of life.) Justin as a male lead character was very juvenile in his thought process and actions. Consistently. I was expecting a stronger male lead in this book (to counteract Marisa's fockery) and he was NOT it for 98% of the book, but this story was highly entertaining as a whole.

How off-kilter was Marisa? Just a bit intense! Her thoughts:

Love, like any game of strategy requires patience and a certain skill level. You rush a move and you f**k up. And I can’t f**k up.

There were two important pawns in this story, but the white pawn was the game changer! She was the firecracker in this story that forced Marisa to up the ante. After all, Marisa viewed everyone in Justin's life as another chess piece she needed to control in order to win his affection, and ultimately, his heart.

Side notes
This book was chock-full of: blonde-hair hatred, groupie drama, groupie mayhem, and delusions of grandeur! Women were attracted to Justin's looks and success like bees migrating to a honeycomb! Also, the alternate ending version of this story was more aligned with Marisa's nature and I'm glad the author included it.

"When love goes wrong, it goes wrong. And there are two reactions a woman can choose to have: let it break her, or get even. A man will never break me again, and the thing is, I’m the queen and he’s the king. He’s taken me off the board, so he thinks the game is over. In his mind, maybe it is, but the thing is, the game only ends when the king is dead."

When Marisa was in a psych ward, she read books by an author, named Justin. She loved those books, so she became obsessive of him. Yeah, this story isn’t romance at all. she searched about him; where he is, what he likes, what is his interest, … Then she tries to make herself into his life.

"I want to be his obsession, and I want him to be my possession."

At first the story wasn’t dark but after some chapters you can see the darkness. Ms. Cole is a great writer. The books I’ve ever read from this author, they were wonderful. She has not ever disappointed me. The writing was perfect. The story was well-paced but the characters! My main problem in this book was the character! I know it isn’t romance and the story calls for characters to be that way. But I couldn’t like Marisa. She is insane. I mean really, really crazy with a capital C! I really want to kill her myself with bare hands, if it’s possible to kill a character! She was so on my nerves! The story is told in dual POV, 1st person. All in all, it was a really good and enjoyable read and I hope you enjoy it as well!

"What happens when two people obsessed with the idea of love find each other and dance a forbidden dance? They become obsessed with the idea of each other."

White Pawn is a story about extreme obsession. Marisa is crazy about Justin Wild. It all started when she read his book while she was in a psych ward. His words made her addicted, and she knew that they were meant for each other.

When she was released, she moved to NYC to be near him. Her plans to get his attention work, but he is a guy that doesn't want to be in a committed relationship. A lot of ladies want him, and he takes advantage of his popularity.

Marisa makes calculated moves, and her moves get darker and darker throughout the book.

The plot is definitely entertaining, and I love how the story is about authors and other book lovers. I did have a difficult time liking the characters, but I had fun reading this even though the story was absolutely ridiculous.

Twisted. Crazy. Dark. Humorous. Romantic?

This is a story about a woman who finds some sort of escape in reading after her husband commits suicide. She is so enamored with the author of the books, and the love stories themselves that she decides to also become a writer and seek the author she adore so much, out.

Honestly, that's all I'm willing to tell you. You need to go into this virtually blind. It will make the experience that much better. What I will say is that this story is so twisted. It's obsessive and crazy. There are points where it gets kind of dark, and there may be a bit of violence. Sometimes I found myself laughing. I mean... you have to read it to understand. Something can be so crazy that you're laughing, yeah... that's parts of this book. In the end though, it was all sort of romantic in a jacked up obsessive way. Still romantic none the less.

If you like dark twisted reads, I'd highly recommend White Pawn!

Wow... I'm at a loss for words.... Nah I'm good let's do this...

White Pawn takes you beyond just an obsession, it takes you to a dark place in someone's mind who will truly stop at nothing to get the man of their dreams.

Marissa was once scorn by a cheating husband, while recovering from that she finds her newest and greatest obsession. Justin Wild.

Justin Wild is a playboy author. He's smug, arrogant, and an asshole. He will never get tied down to just one woman, until he meets Marissa.

Holy crap where do I start? Marissa is so crazy, but she is 100% dedicated to making Justin hers. I found Justin hard to like most of the time but he grew on me and together they make one hell of a twisted, dark Romeo and Juliet.

I was provided an ARC for my honest review ~Alison

I'm not quite sure what to make of this book. It took a while to get to the darker parts of the story, which were really good. I loved the ending! It was very twisted. The build up to it was dull. Marisa was obsessed with Justin, but why? She liked his books but didn't seem to be into him personally. The attraction didn't make a lot of sense. Then again she was crazy. There wasn't a love triangle or cheating but both characters were with other people at one point or another. Everything Marisa did was tactical. All of Justin's actions were a result of him being a self-absorbed manwhore. Ultimately the reason I didn't like the book more was because of the characters. I didn't like them.

White Pawn by Stevie J. Cole. A psychological romance that will leave you absolutely screwed in the head. Stevie's books have always been on the darker side, romances with a twist. I've read some pretty sick shit in my life but I swear this just goes above and beyond sick and twisted. It's downright insanity. I didn't know what to expect when I went into this one. I'll admit when I signed up for this book it was because the blurb piqued my interest. But it was nothing like I thought it would be. It went so far beyond my standards, they weren't even on the damn scale anymore. When two authors who are obsessed with the idea of love find each other, things happen.

Twisted and unforeseeable things that are bound to make any person cringe in horror, disgust, fear; take your pick. It's completely bizarre and so far from normal, but somehow I managed to love the whole thing. If that doesn't attest to just how dark my soul is, I don't know what does. Stevie manages to bring out the darkness and insanity from within all of us & makes us LIKE IT. You begin to crave the insanity, to let the darkness consume you & while there were some parts that had my jaw dropping and messed with my head, this book is actually pretty hot. The most peculiar romance book I've ever read. I also loved the fact that we got insight into the indie author world and how things are from the author's perspective. It's exciting and inspiring and I devoured each world like my next breath! Absolutely LOVED THIS BOOK. It drove me crazy but I am obsessed over it. It honestly makes me want that kinda love in my life, which people would call crazy but I don't care.

When love goes too far and obsession takes over, things get dangerous. Absolutely mind blowing!

People tell me all the time that I should write a book because I read so much. It doesn't really work like that. I know enough authors to know that I am not in their league. I don't have those people in my head that want to get out. Most authors can't NOT write. It is in them. Different authors have different motivations. The author in this story (not of of this story) has a different motivation. She writes for obsession.

Marisa (one "s") is a reader. She loves her favorite author. Now, I love my favorite authors too, but in a different way. A very different way.

Love, like any game of strategy requires patience and a certain skill level. Attention to detail You rush a move and you fuck up.

Marisa, being a modern gal, uses the tools of the modern age to find love. No more batting your eyes or dropping a hankie. She uses Instagram, Facebook, Goodreads, and Twitter to make herself into the perfect match for her intended love interest. Dark meets dark and twisted recognizes twisted.

Justin Wild is the bad boy of the romance world. A world that thrives on bad boys. He loves them and strings them along. He is the poet laureate of texting.

I miss you too

So what happens when obsession meets romance meets pure crazy? The most bizarre chess game you can imagine. One where the pieces don't know they are being played. And the end game is much more dangerous than a simple checkmate.

Because love is fleeting, it's an emotion. Something you'll shed a tear or two over. Obsession, it's something you'll shed blood for.

Marisa and Justin are the ultimate players. They play each other and everyone they know.

They say love is a form of insanity, and I'd have to agree.

Ms Cole has taken the world of indie books, romance, book signings, social media and gossip to the dark side. Is she reflecting reality or creating it? White Pawn is a crazy fun adventure down the rabbit hole of obsessed fandom. A dark step that will have you giggling over blood splatter and looking over your shoulder at the next book event you attend.

This book was wild. Obsession gone way too far, notoriety gone awry and a story that is beyond twisted.

Marissa is obsessed with a writer he goes by the name of Justin Wild. To get close to him she becomes what he desires, with carefully played moves she inserts herself into his life. Justin is pretty full of himself. He has money, fame, looks and whatever he wants at the time. He is not looking for anything other than a good time and then he meets Marissa. But this is not a bad-boy turned good, not a girl-next-door catches the eye of the famous writer, it's a messed up story of creepish obsession.

This book was interesting for me. It was one that I did not love either of our main characters. I had no real connection to them and I couldn't really root for either of them. Marissa's actions and behaviors were out if this world. Justin for all that he was on the outside, he was none of those things when you got to know him. But even though I disliked them it was the story that sucked me in. I couldn't wait to see what sort of crazy was going to happen next or where Ms. Cole was going to take this story. Never could I have anticipated the outcome and that was one of the reason I enjoyed this book so much.

I don’t even know where to start with this book, I’m not sure whether I loved or hated it in a…. weird way. I couldn’t put my kindle down; the whole thing was so monumentally screwed up that I had to keep reading. I didn’t get the characters, in fact in retrospect, I didn’t like the characters. Both Justin and Marisa seemed all over the place but the book just had something that pulled me in. There’s every single conceivable romantic cliché you can find in there but it’s done so tongue in cheek, mocking at some points and it’s brilliant. The word satirical sprang to mind a lot of the time. Yet romantic comedy it is not. Love story it most definitely is in a very convoluted kind of way.
There were many connotations to things that may or may not have happened within our lovely book world, but with an author/book themed plot I’d expect that, and I think Stevie J Cole has pegged it beautifully. Loved the co-author/self-author reference, I always find these little references humorous. I’m not sure I would have categorised it as ‘Romantic Suspense’, however I’m struggling a little to think of the niche it belongs to. The book cover is an anomaly for me, I can’t quite fit the image with the book's’ theme and while striking, that’s about it for me.
The story was like bouncing on a Pogo stick, up and down, up and down, yet wasn’t too hard to keep up with the plot. The author gives all the history on Marisa you need in the first chapter, there’s no hiding and the she does this throughout, doesn’t keep you guessing, lets the reader know exactly what’s going on. I liked the frankness in all honesty. There’s certainly plenty of questions to be asked, it isn’t a case of make the reader feel dumb by telling them everything. I had some thoughts to what might come further in the book and I have to admit I was way off track with those assumptions. But I liked being proved wrong.

You see trouble with a capital in Chapter 2, almost immediately you know you’re in for one hell of a messed up ride. This cannot end well surely? You have Justin who hit big time with a book he wrote about his past, he seems to be riding off the coattails of that success. I’m thinking he’s just looking for a good time, for the chase, bedding and treating women however he likes. Justin is extremely shallow but underneath all his cocky bravado you find a scared little boy really. I’d like to say it’s quite endearing but I didn’t catch that emotion whatsoever. He meets Marisa, who I have to say is absolutely deluded. I mean the woman is a nutcase in a very unassuming way, which is dangerous. Very dangerous. Marisa wants the story book ending and will stop at nothing to achieve it. Maybe there was something I liked about Marisa – her no nonsense, matter of fact attitude often coupled with her humour, made for some fun moments. By Chapter 8 you’re getting a feel for what the characters are about.

“I miss you.”

For a dual POV I found a fair bit of Justin’s story missing, you don’t ever really get the details about his ex-girlfriend and his past as blatantly as you do Marisa’s. His signature line; “I miss you,” loses all meaning by the time you get half way through the book. I fear every time I hear those word, Justin Wild will enter my head. Thank you very much dear author!
I found little finesse within any of the intimate scenes, actually there’s no finesse in any of Justin and Marisa’s relationship. There’s an odd moment here and there, never coming across as truly romantic however. That’s fine, the style absolutely suits the book. The author has such a rudimentary way of describing the little things;

“…the heat radiates up from the asphalt in squiggly waves…”

What’s not to love about the simplistic nature of that type of descriptive narrative? The book doesn’t read like a tangled mess of analogies; doesn’t sound like it’s trying to be clever despite the fact that it most certainly is. Don’t get me wrong, the writing is top notch; easy to read and didn’t confuse my head too much with over complicated sentences or words. It works, works beautifully.
For those readers that are a little worried that perhaps this is going to be a dark read, I’d like to put your mind at ease. There are some questionable parts to it but in my opinion I’d say you were looking at a grey in terms of the dark factor. Most definitely suitable for those who like to keep their breakfast or dinner down.

A huge hat’s off to the author. If you can make me dislike your characters but absolutely love your book, then you have me! I do believe that this lives up to my favourite book from this author. I can’t award this anything other than the five stars it utterly deserves.

5 stars if I could give more I could

I think the author made a good description with this little bit... Romeo and Juliet- that's a great love story, but Harley Quinn and Joker, that's the kind of love story that's epic on every level.... This book is pure epicness.

This book....... I don't even know if I can form words for it. Lol. Dark and twisted is what I can say. The characters are so well written and the story line was amazing. The suspense in this book and the constant twisted thinking of Marisa. I have never read a book like this before. I couldn't put this book down. When I first started I was like this Marisa girl is off her freaking rocker. Like stalker plus psycho. She loves Justin Wild. He had his heart broken and believes the only way to be happy is plow through the fans. He is an author so he knows exactly what to say to have the ladies melting in their panties. Which leaves a trail of broken hearts. Marisa is pretty much obsessed with him after reading his first 3 books. But when she reads the last book she was so mad that it didn't have the happy ending. I mean I know a lot of readers can relate to that. But she plants herself into his life and slowly starts to sculpt him to her perfection. She does some crazy things. She was so smart and calculated with the things she did. So smart it was scary. Sometimes you could tell it didn't have to go the one way but.... crazy people and their way of thinking. And poor Justin had no idea the kind of female Marisa was. He saw the facade and it was a little to late when he realized how sick and twisted she was. Even though its a dark twisted story you'd think there won't be a HEA but there is. I have found a new author that has been able to have me read in less then a day. I can't wait to read more from this author.

This is a fabulous, innovative, twisted, unpredictable story, yet it is in desperate need of a good proofreading!!! There are commas missing where they should be (commas aren’t just used for pauses), extra words such as, ”Her tits in my hand my mouth.”, missing words, the same word capitalized in some places yet not in others, and the wrong word, for example, “...he held my last night .” Aside from the punctuation errors, the other most common mistake was incorrect spelling such as BORED instead of BOARD, CLICHE instead of CLIQUE, CONFIDENT instead of CONFIDANT, WERE instead of WHERE and more! Those are just a few examples! There were even mistakes spellcheck should’ve caught like, fstuck and the letter Y typed followed by a period. Yep, just: Y. This many errors definitely detract from how much I enjoyed this book.

This book, um well I don't actually know where to start, it goes beyond dark and twisted but I loved it, and if that makes me a little twisted then so be it. I wasn't a lover of Marissa or Justin, their story is what sucked me in and it's unpredictability. Marissa was an obsessed fan whose craziness knew no boundaries, Justin was the self absorbed asshole who was only ever looking for a good time. Because love is fleeting, it's an emotion. Something you'll shed a tear or two over. Obsession, it's something you'll shed blood for.

Taking fangirling to a dangerous level, Marisa has watched author Justin Wild for far too long. Like a venomous snake, she’s planned to make her attack, sink her fangs in, and irrevocably change the course of his life forever. This isn’t just love—its obsession.

I have to be honest that this book wasn’t what I expected. I expected a dark romance with a dangerous cat and mouse game-which it was- but it didn’t quite meet my expectations as a thriller. I felt the story came out too flat on the pages- everything was explained in text and I didn’t have a puzzle to uncover nor did I have truly any emotions reading this for the most part.

Furthermore, I felt the characters came out flat as well. I found them both narcissistic and empty- I felt Marisa had a real killer backstory that was barely touched on besides a sentence here and there- why did she do what she did? If she was so perfect for him why the DRASTIC games and plotting? It didn’t add up to me. Also, neither of them had redeeming characteristics- and not in an anti-hero way- in a these people suck way- why am I reading about them?

Despite I didn’t really connect with the story I did find the premise very interesting. I enjoyed being thrust in the world of indie authors as if this stuff might actually happen out there! Are signings THAT dramatic? Are all readers such bimbos? *giggles*

Overall I think this book is unique and may appeal to some dark readers out there looking for something different and kinda cray cray. 2.5 stars for me xx

A truly unputdownable read!
Intense, brilliantly written, demented dark romance, with an absolutely delicious plot.
Unique, twisted story with rich, well developed characters, albeit "bat shit" crazy.
Marisa is one scary anti hero heroine, or was she the victim of circumstances?
After enduring tragedy, she becomes obsessed with her favorite author! Pursuing her favorite author Justin Wild was just the beginning of her master plan! Catching him in his "manwhoring" ways, just fed her obsession until the grand finale!!!
But is Justin really so innocent, or was he manipulating Marisa to do his dirty work?
Hmmm... he was such a dick and I kind of liked seeing him squirm.
What are you willing to do for "love"?
The lengths of their obsession made this story one hell of a read!!
Moreover, Stevie offered some interesting insight into the drama fueled world of indie authors, bloggers and readers...Yikes!
Be careful who you meet and what you say!

When i heard about this book i have to be honest i was thinking it was going to be an uber romantic love story... two romance authors... Physical attraction... They both know the words... They both know what it takes to get the happy ending... Lovely... right? bahahahahahahahahahahahahaha OH Dear dear me. #HavingFunWithJustin

Ok not sure where to start.

As i said it's a story of two romance authors. We all read the books. Most of us have attended a signing. Always wondering what goes on when the authors are left alone. Or with their fans. This book is darkly hilarious in that it taps into what you think happens and magnifies it by 20 gazillion!!

Author 1 Justin.

Justin, is a number 1 bestseller. His first series goes straight to the top. He's on the top of his game. Female fans are tripping over their paperbacks to get a piece of him. Of course he obliges!! Who wouldn't in his position. I love how he's blissfully unaware of what will happen when he meets the one who says no. The one who doesn't fall into his bed. The one that has his life mapped out. What will happen?

Author 2 Marissa.

Ok... crazy fangirl turned the ultimate stalker! Reading Justin's books she reads and rereads over and over and over. Follows every social networking site he's on. She knows him before she meets him. She decides she will try and become an author too so she can get closer to him. She will have him. He will be her King. She will be his Queen. She's going to make sure of it!

From here it turns effin caaaarrraaazeeeee!!!

I won't give spoilers but damn does this book take you on a ride!! It builds and builds and builds and then.... JAZZ HANDS!!! lolololol when you read it you'll understand the emoji. It's the world we are all in. It's the world we all want to know about. Is it really like this? *insert shocked face* I'm really hoping it is!!

There's massive chemistry between Justin and Marissa they're drawn together like magnets. Even though she kind of writes the script of their lives, Justin is powerless to resist and in an odd way he's right there with her.

It's really difficult to review without the spoilers but please trust me when i say this is darkly enjoyable. Funny when it's so so wrong. And also HOT! Yes hot! In among the crazy there really is love... i think?!?!

Honestly completely utterly nuts and i freaking loved it!

As with all of Stevie's books it's extremely well written and put together. The plot keeps you guessing where in the hell it's going to go. Will they get the HEA? Will they both end up in straight jackets? Who will be caught up in the crossfire? Where will it end? I love this in a book. I never knew what was coming or when. Just wonderful.

Original story line I've never come across before and in an alternate universe it's almost fan fiction. Highly highly recommend! I can't wait for the next signing I'm going to be keeping my eyes peeled as to author goings on!

A is for Alpha B is for Books

White Pawn is a twisted love story about an obsessed fan who takes her craziness out on a selfish prick of an author.

This is not your traditional love story, it's more of a dark, twisted tale of obsession gone wild. Justin Wild is a worldwide bestselling published author and also a major prick. After he had his heart broken by an ex he vowed to just be a prick to save his feeling from being hurt. Justin is a total manwhore, he loves them and leaves them.

Marisa Dawson came into a huge sum of money after the unfortunate demise of her husband. She picked herself up and moved to NY in order to be near her favorite author, Justin Wild. She's such a huge fan she had read his book 77 times. Marisa interest in Justin quickly moves into a stalker obsession. Once she catches his attentions she sets her game plan in motion. "Strategy is key, I am the queen and he is my pawn and I will win this game." Marisa Dawson plans to win at any cost.

The story is dark, the characters are dangerous and the ending is evil. I think this is the first book I've ever read that has left me disliking the main characters. They were unredeemable. The author is just evil! 4 Stars.

What the what?

*inhales then exhale slowly*

So I'm truthfully crappy at reviews. I don't like the long-winded reviews that seem to give away too much of the story, I prefer recommendations so here's mine:

Is it dark? Not in my opinion, but it's definitely not a sickening saccharine-sweet romance. There's definitely some deep emotions going on between the two main characters. Ms. Cole brings them to life, and they practically seem to leap from the pages. Lot of humor going on here too. Personally, I really preferred the alternate ending...

Bizarre...

That's the only word I can come up with right now to describe this book.

Marisa is a reader who becomes obsessed with an author but obsessed is to light of a word for what she is, it goes way beyond obsession, possession and more to the point where she orchestrates a love story of their own and Justin man-whore extraordinaire falls into it blindly.

A book about the book world, our book world, with a dark and twisted plot were fiction and reality collide and clash.

Stevie J Cole's books I have read before along with Co writer LP Lovell and the dark edge, the twists and turns in what they produce is phenomenal.

White Pawn is unlike anything I've read before though, it's certainly different, will have you're jaw dropping and if you're like me will have you finishing thinking... wtf did I just read?.

Another twisted and thought provoking read by this author.

Such a dark and twisted story, with moments of insanity - but what's love without a little bit of insanity and obsession?
Stevie is brilliant with unpredictability, you truly will never guess the outcome of where she will take her books. You may hate her characters at first but they will always make you smile and shocked at the same time and by the end you are cheering them on, and this book is no different.
This is a fantastic standalone if you are looking for something non-conventional, I mean, who doesn't love a little bit of crazy in their reading lives!

I literally had my jaw drop throughout this book. Stevie J. Cole manages to take a romance and twist it. She challenges the norm, and that in itself is such a breath of fresh air. I want to say this book is a sort of twisted, satirical romantic com book. It touches on a little bit of everything to the point where I found myself both entertained and laughing throughout the book. Her two main protagonist, Marisa and Justin are extremely static together, and while I want to at times throw a book at them, I found them endearing. This book is not predictable at all, you might try to guess what will happen next and bam Stevie manages to turn you upside down and backwards without confusing the reader. It had me captivated from beginning to end. Insanity wrapped up love story that still has me on a book hangover.

Emmm....
