Mustansar Hussain Tarar (Urdu: مستنصر حسين تارڑ) is a Pakistani author, actor, the first Morning Show presenter and a pioneer trekker - in his own words: a vagabond.
Having made a name for himself by taking the mantle in Pakistan's mountaineering community, Mustansar Hussain is widely recognized as one of the most well known personalities in Pakistan. Though the origin of his fame is usually considered to be his established and decorated career as a writer, Tarar can also be recognized as the foremost endorser for tourism projects in Northern Areas of Pakistan, having exorbitantly increased the array of tourist exposure to the areas by becoming both a mountaineer and an adventure author who uses these locations as backdrops for his storylines.
Mustansar Hussain's literary proficiency as an author often overshadows the fact that he has been an active mountaineer for a very extensive period of time. Having embarked upon several painstaking and challenging tasks such as the ascension of K-2 and the surpassing of the treacherous "Chitti Buoi" Glacier among others. More significantly, both of Mustansar Hussain's professions often intertwine and relate, since he uses his experiences on his expeditions as travelogues. Though some of his publications have met lukewarm reactions due to supposed exaggeration, he reflects on this predicament with the notion that "words or even pictures cannot successfully express the beauty and splendour of nature in it's true spirit."
Tarar's first book Nikley Teri Talash Main, a travelogue of Europe, was published in 1971. He has so far over forty titles to his credit which include many genres of literature; travelogues, novels, short stories and collection of his newspaper columns and television dramas. He has been one of the best-seller fiction writer of Pakistan.
Mustansar was born in 'Jokalian' a small town in Punjab, Pakistan in March 1939. He spent his early childhood in the village and moved to culturally rich Lahore, witnessed the independence of Pakistan in 1947 and the events that took place at Lahore. His father Rehmat Khan Tarar opened a small seed store there. Mr Tarar got his schooling from Rang Mehal Mission High School and Muslim Model High School, Lahore. He then got admission in Government College Lahore , a college that owns the credit to polish several intellectuals of Pakistan. In 1950's, he went to London for higher studies. In 1957 he attended the World Youth Festival in Moscow and wrote a book named 'Fakhta' (Dove) on that experience. In 1971 his first travelogue Nikley Teri Talaash Main was published. It led to new trend in Urdu literature. He also became a television actor and from 1988 was for many years a host of PTV's live morning transmission Subuh Bakhair (Good Morning). His unconventional and down to earth style of comparing earned him great popularity. He called himself the 'Cha Cha Jee' of all Pakistani children and soon became known by this title.
Awards: Presidential award of Pride of Performance. Prime Minister's award for the Best Novelist for "Rakh". Life time achievement award of Almi Farogh-e-Urdu Adab, Doha (Qatar). Gold Medal bestowed by Moscow State University for literary achievements.
If you want to read about travelling then what could be the better option other than Sir Mustansar's travelogues. What a beautiful tavelogue it is! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it along with many heart breaks. One book and with so many places and one keep on wandering one after another....... Qandhar Hindukash Harat Ghazni Garshik Mashhad Turbat Istanbul Princess Island Balgrad Bern Frankfurt Berlin Holland River Elbe Lake district London Amsterdam etc The best thing in his books is the detailed account about the people, hotels, architect & apart from the place visited. Furthermore the historical information & his personal experiences is cherry on the top. Last but not the least he would make you feel that you were there with him (Feel with capital F)
P.S: Welcome my friend, welcome to my hidden library ^_^
My aunt is an avid reader (she loves Urdu literature and poetry), she once suggested I read this book since I've always had a great fascination with travelling around the world, different people and places, geography. I was young at that time but it captured my senses in a way no book up until that point had. I have read it so many times since then and it always fills me with such a joy and bewildering sense. This isn't just about a person's journey through some countries but a person's journey through life. He meets people, goes places and experiences life in all its glory and messiness. I love reading this book and feeling lost in this man's journey. Wonderful in every way.

A beautiful travelogue written in a captivating manner. Feels like you're experience everything yourself. From history to art to meeting new people it truly captures what travelling is all about and why it's so important. One of my favorite reads from this year.
I was 15 years old at that time when one of the best thing happened to me and that was I got to know about "نکلے تیری تلاش میں"by #mustansirhussaintarar. مستنصر حسین تارڑ is first author who wrote 'a travelogue (سفر نامہ). He is a well renowned author in urdu literature. He wrote many travelogues and novels. Ok back to me It was a hot summer day I was spending my summer break uselessly searching on google when I got to know about online reading(yes didn't aware of online reading earlier 😅) and here we go I found my passion "Reading" without spending money(poor students). I knew about مستنصر حسین تارڑ but definitely not about his books and specially travelogues(سفرنامے) so in short I started reading and this was what exactly I wanted in my life at that time...to know about foreign countries specially #turkey and #scandinavia countries this book was exactly about my desires 👌😎. I was so amazed by reading how the author traveled by hitchhiking and how he described the scenery, the events occured and how he elaborated the culture, traditions, celebrations, sadness, happiness and all emotions. It is very informative travelogue about different European ports and places + countries from england to Turkey through orient express (remembere agatha cristae's novel murder in Orient express) and from Turkey to France to Germany, Holland etc etc it is so dreamy I must say.I finished the book and at the end I have 'a diary' where I noted all the information I read. I 100% recommend this to every #bookworm must read it and now it has placed at the top of my shelve.👍🤫
A wonderful piece of travel writing from one of the leading writers of Pakistan. It's a telling of the author's journeys in Europe at a time when travel to Europe was uncommon, fraught with uncertainty that defined foreign travel prior to the age of information, which in turn added to charm and adventure of every discovery a traveller made while on the road. In this book Mustansar narrates his by road journey from Pakistan to many European countries. This book along with others made him the number one sold author in Pakistan for straight 23 years (as of 2010/11).
Chacha jee, the true wanderer has written this in such a brilliantly casual form that one cant help but crave to travel. Every wanna be traveler and vagabond must read this book. It breaks your heart, makes you laugh and leaves you in awe of the places chacha jee visited in an era thats nothing but a distant dream for present day Pakistanis.
