I picked up The Junior Classics: Volume VI: Old-Fashioned Tales because a friend swore I'd hate it, and I'm annoyed to report she was wrong. William Patten has a prickly, stubborn voice that grows on you fast. It's not for everyone, and it knows it. Read it if you like a narrator with attitude, skip if you want someone agreeable.
