E.P. Anthony, an economist, trader and wealth manager focuses on the political economy of inequality and the decline of centre-left parties in the developed world in this manifesto. His analysis will especially appeal to readers in the Anglo-Saxon economies of the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand where inequality has increased most rapidly. The manifesto summarizes recent literature on inequality in an accessible way, including the best-selling books by Thomas Piketry, Chrystia Freeland, and Joseph Stiglitz. However, while those books provide great analysis, Anthony proposes solutions, including how prevent another global financial crisis; stimulate economic productivity and growth; and take wide-ranging action to reduce inequality...
The Holistic Manifesto: Centre-Left Policies for the Twenty-First Century is written by E. P Anthony, a trader who is also an economist focusing on the issues of equality. He analyses this issue using a holistic approach and takes samples from Anglo-Saxon countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada where inequality shows an increasing trend in these few years.
Consisted of 6 chapters and begins with an introduction to the economy. Moves to the next chapters, E.P Anthony will narrate a few things thing related to inequality and the economic field. With inequality as a big theme and main point in this book, the author examines the causes of inequality on a wider scale and using his expertise in the economic field to create more holistic solutions to curb the issue as stated in Chapter 5 which the title of the book derives. The author also enlists a few economic-related terms that often appear such as median, mean, the normal distribution, and their meanings so the reader is not confused.
For me, this book is not an ordinary economy book. With a holistic approach and specific analysis, it offers a new perspective on inequality issues. It is straight to the point and has a clear message to the readers. Besides, it also provided some facts, statistics, graphs, and footnotes where the sources come from. Another thing that makes this book is interesting to me is, the author also re-examines or takes a look at the existing solutions to curb or flatten the inequality increasing trend from Traditional Socialism, The Third Way, The Scandinavian Model, and Stakeholder Model of East Asia.
From this book, I realized something about inequality. If it keeps showing an increasing trend and the gap becomes wider, it will affect not only the economy but also the society and also the moral compass. Adam Smith, a well renowned Scottish economist had expressed his concern about this issue if the gap between the poor and the rich become wider in his book, The Theory of Moral Sentiments. Thanks to the author too because this book makes more aware and concerns about it because it will affect most of us as the citizens, sooner or later.
Finally, with a more straightforward tone, this book can be a wonderful read and enlightened the readers about economic issues especially involving inequality. Some of the topics in this book are a little bit of time to understand it such as the curves, statistics, or topics that discussing tax, law, and so on but it really worth reading. Because of it, I am not hesitant to give my 5-star rates to this book. As a reader, I can say that the messages that the author is doing a good job with clearly delivered messages.
"...inequality, unchecked will continue to increase... "
In this book, author E.P. Anthony has done an outstanding job of addressing the highly relevant and controversial topic of inequality. While the main focus of this book is on economics, it also includes historical, statistical, psychological, legal and philosophical information and viewpoints, which gives it great depth as well as a well rounded feel.
In this thoroughly researched work, which reflects a passion for studying, understanding and solving the growing problem of economic inequality, the author takes the reader through each of the terms and phrases used and referred to throughout the book, explains the main schools of thought underlying present day economics, describes the causes of inequality, shares the most relevant viewpoints on why inequality is a real and far reaching problem, discusses existing solutions and their benefits and limitations, and finally, presents some thought provoking holistic policies to potentially improve on the existing ones. He does so in a way that is succinct, yet detailed enough not to be oversimplified. Politics are discussed throughout this book, but from a balanced and mature point of view.
Even though this book contains a wealth of useful facts and information, which could easily have been overwhelming to the average reader, it is made accessible through a well presented summary of contents, manageable length chapters, helpful footnotes throughout and detailed indexes. These combine to make The Holistic Manifesto ideal for use as a study and reference guide.
Since we are all affected by inequality in some way or another, and even more evidently so right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this book is a must read for anyone interested in exploring and learning more about this important topic, from a holistic point of view.
However, what I appreciate most about this book is the empathy with which it refers to all social classes. This sets it apart as it reinforces the innate dignity and humanity of all people, which I've often found lacking in other books on economics. Instead of merely blaming a specific demographic for causing inequality or not doing enough to escape it, it acknowledges that circumstances are not always within a person's complete control and that it can be harder than many might think to improve one's economic standing, both for individuals and entire communities alike. It states the facts and affirms the urgency of creating real, workable solutions to the benefit of all classes as a whole.
I certainly plan to refer back to this book in future as I am still learning and growing in understanding and transcending the impact of inequality in my own life.
This book manages to distribute a huge chunk of economical information in an orderly and digestible manner. At first I found the expressions to be a bit complicated and I had to use an economic dictionary, but after approximately 15 pages it was a smooth reading process and I got used to the applied expressions. Policies and problems were aptly comprehensive and tangible which I found it to be utterly significant. Whenever policies are being questioned, there is always someone who wants to silence you with elusive descriptions about leftist tendencies and their failure. Pointing specific problems out and offering clear solutions is what a thorough viewpoint offers.
“…in the political sphere, the poor believe their voices are not heard, while the wealthy get to buy policies and politicians.”
I was able to read this book at the moment that I needed it the most. Elections here in the Philippines have affected me significantly and this book has opened my mind to look more into how a country can be changed in terms of economical theories at the same time, this book has changed my views on how different economic and even political theories can change a country positively, contrary to these theories’ current applied effects in a country.
I also liked how this book tackled everything in a way that a reader who has never read a book of the same genre (aka me), can understand without having the need to search on the web for you to comprehend the themes that are discussed.
The strategic concepts in political systems also helped me understand more of what’s happening in my country, especially in the economical scope. Tax evasion is one of the issues that revolve around the newly proclaimed president in my country and this book has helped me understand it more and have my own synthesis about these things.
To summarize, this is a great book when you want a mini crash course about economics and how it is connected to politics and even to the smallest most insignificant personal dilemma that you have.
Excellent exposition and analysis of the political, social and economic situation of the present West. It offers proposals to reduce inequality, which are based on an overall vision and that are worth consider on, discussing and legislating, in order to achieve a better Nation to live and thrive. _________
The Holistic Manifesto takes on and succeeds in meeting three challenges: it provides an informed, engaging survey of the economic and political ideas that underpin centre-left thought; based on those ideas it creates a framework for analysing policy proposals, centred around reducing inequality; and using this framework it provides a practical, electable policy platform. To pull off one of these three would be impressive - the hat-trick constitutes a major achievement. The recent electoral defeats suffered by liberals in many developed countries represent an existential crisis for the left. The breakdown of the coalition between liberal professionals and the working classes, with the former and their interests now almost completely dominant, underlies this crisis. Anthony goes back to first principles, reasserting the interests of the working classes and the necessity of reducing highly unequal economic and social outcomes, all while acknowledging the constraint of electability. This analysis leads to radical conclusions, such as the equal treatment of all income (and therefore much heavier taxation of capital gains and inheritance). But radical does not equal far left: rail nationalisation and the restoration of student grants, the two flagship policies of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, are both focused on the middle classes, the disproportionate users of rail travel and university education. There are many of us who still believe that a practical balance between social justice and economic performance, committed to engaging with the working classes and to winning elections, offers the best hope for developed democracies. Recent travails are disheartening, but the fighback by the centre-left must start now. If you want to join that fight, give yourself the necessary intellectual armoury and buy this book.
Reading this book was quite an adventure. While one might think this could be any economic book with a catchy title they’d be totally wrong. This might be quite in fact the most interesting book about economy ever out there since it’s not just an explanation of some concepts, but also includes other factors important for economy, like history, psychology and even politics. At first you could think that this’d be a lot of information to comprehend, but for me I happened to notice that I couldn’t stop reading due to my ever growing interest into this whole subject. Even if you’re not familiar with economics I’d recommend this to anyone, since it’s a really good introduction in economy itself and visualizes data meaningfully.
All in all, this book is a real inspiration and contains useful inforamation regardless of your personal background. I personally recommend it to anyone that wants to grasp how economic systems function, how economy globally evolved and is looking for a spark of inspiration.
The Holistic Manifesto is a book that I really don´t expect to feel comfortable with these theme. I liked fantasy very much and then I recieved this book from Booktasters in exchange of a honest review and I feel very scared about this because, a book in english about economy?? OMG!!! But I feel very surprised when I read this book and I really liked it. I think this is not a book for begginers in learning english but if you are studying english a lot of time then, TRY IT ON! This is a simple Manifesto about economy in al this years and how it changes with factors like the World War II, the big depression in 1929 and how the people have many theories about that. You can learn much about this theme because in this book the author explain all the basics terms of economy and that simplify the reading. Thank you very much for this book! I learn so many things :)
The Holistic manifesto addresses inequality from a policy implementation standpoint. How policy influences directly or indirectly the distribution of wealth and how to solve the issue by better legislative terms for regulation and stimulation of economies.
Fantastic read for someone who has a strong interest in politics and economics. Found the writing extremely engaging. The ideas the author puts forward are well considered. Really enjoyed this.
BOOK:-THE HOLISTIC MANIFESTO-CENTRE-LEFT POLICIES FOR THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY BY E-P-ANTHONY.
BOOK REVIEWER:-OKOKO AYEZU TAMARAPREYE.
SYNOPSIS: The book is a compilation of solutions by the author on political economy, inequality and social breakdown with a focus on solving inequality in the state;the health sector;pensions payment;national defence and military; education; funding of political parties;taxation; environment; housing;corporate world;finance sector;choice of electoral system;agriculture and food policy;immigration; transportation; criminal justice system;choice of electoral system; public broadcasting; Inequality in the jury system and whether the system serves its purpose;arts and media;amongst others. The author explains this using economic theories while advocating perfect competition;equality in taxation and balanced regulation as solutions to inequality and some of our economic woes.It is a book that preaches dealing with rather than tolerating inequality and why inequality is a problem for any society when in high degree.
LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE BOOK READ:-
📞To increase productivity of workers or there will be increased inequality.
📞Need for good investment to increase wealth and reduce inequality.
📞Adopt policies that raise growth relative to return in capital to reduce inequality
📞Need for perfect competition for a free market economy as everyone in the economy gets paid their economic worth(it is a trickle down economics enabler).
📞To reduce inequality by advocating systems to ensure cut in tax rates;revenue improvement; attraction of investment; need for employee representation in the board;seperation of management from ownership; and prevention of task avoidance.
📞To subsidize the good and services affected by or causing market failure of positive externalities by the value of the externality as a policy option to correct market failure and increase output of the good or service and lower its price to a socially optimal level.
📞The government should as a policy option provide the good or services causing market failure directly.
📞while the cost of policy option is borne in the present, the benefits are usually in the future and pervasive on the populace thus making it problematic as many government want an immediate solution.
📞While there is legality in tax avoidance, there is illegality in tax evasion.
📞The need to study countries that have tackled inequality for success in tackling same.
📞Retirement age should be adjusted according to occupation to save money rather than raising retirement age as a means to save money.
📞Rather than use GDP as a measure of social welfare,we should use the index of sustainable economic welfare (ISEW) and Genuine Progress Indicator(GPI) .
📞Not to place reliance on monetary policy to target inflation as that could lead to economic instability but to introduce fiscal policy rules as a stabilisation policy and that should be overseen by an independent fiscal council as suggested by Jonathan Porter and Simon Wren-Lewis.
📞Price stability should not be mistaken as economic stability.
📞Cost of collecting tax and the cost of paying should be small when compared to revenue raised.
📞There should be equality in policing as regards staffing, race and posting.
📞To reduce inequality and break the link between money and political power, there is need to weaken the power of the executive to reduce moneyed interest and lobbying while giving such power to committees and legislature. APPLICATION OF LESSONS LEARNT:-
I think rather than weaken anyone's power, there should be checks and balances and separation of powers where everyone is allowed to function according and within the powers vested by the grund norm or the law governing the society.
I also think price stability should not be mistaken as economic stability as in cases where people weigh economic stability by the price of goods and services over certain periods. This is because an economy could be stable but inequality can inflate prices leading to price instability.
Blueprint for reducing societal inequality with government policy change.
In the book The Holistic Manifesto: Centre-Left Policies for the Twenty First Century, author P. E. Anthony discusses the topic of inequality and how to reduce it in a nation through policy change that may be more likely to have widespread public support. A basic argument of the book is that moderate politics, Centre-Left, moderate policy changes that can garner broad public support, are more likely to be able to be passed and therefore may be more effective a strategy for attempting to reduce inequality.
Policies that support inequality and other potential causes for the presence of greater inequality in a society are discussed in section two. Solutions that have been tried for reducing societal inequality are discussed in the fourth sections of the book. Economic theory needed for understanding the premise of the problems and solutions is summarized briefly in the first section making the book more accessible for readers without a background knowledge of economics. The third section focuses on why inequality in a society is bad, which may seem obvious for the poor but it may also create a society that is less safe for richer people to enjoy too.
Free travel throughout a community or a wilderness area depends on adequate housing to reduce homeless, adequate jobs to reduce economic stress, adequate sanitation and road repair funding, and adequate policing may be needed too. Without dealing with lack of housing or too few jobs and social services the problem of homelessness or minor crime may become too large, too numerous of a problem to feasibly control with policing alone.
The final section is lengthy and divided into many areas of economic importance within a society that may affect inequality and therefore may be potential ways to make policy changes that help reduce inequality. In the author’s words:
“In section 5, ‘The Holistic Manifesto’, we study policy solutions to inequality. This is where we hope to add value. We draw on the findings of the previous sections and on the experiences of the major developed economies. The focus is the United Kingdom and the other Anglo-Saxon economies, but we also examine the major developed economies of East Asia and continental Europe. Using this background, we can construct consistent, efficient, and realistic policy solutions that will stand the test of time and we hope can carry popular Support.” (page 3)
This final section of the book, The Holistic Manifesto: Centre-Left Policies for the Twenty First Century, and the fourth section with examples of strategies that have been attempted could be helpful references for anyone with an interest in policy and inequality, and especially for those in a position to create policy change at a local or regional level.

However, while those books provide great analysis, Anthony proposes solutions, including how to: prevent another global financial crisis; stimulate economic productivity and growth; and take wide-ranging action to reduce inequality. The author first gives a walk-through of various economic terms such as perfect competition, oligopoly and monopolistic markets, then turn to use the impact of globalization, other various socio-political factors such as trade unions, shareholder values and other externalities like pollution. The book tries to explain the causes of inequalities in countries' economies and then tries to give solutions by providing information about various helpful policies. Finally, it provides with data that the government spend on their campaigns and how to reduce these huge amounts. When it comes to writing a review of the political drama, it becomes very difficult for us since there are many aspects that go overboard. This book has done justice to all of that. While reading a book of a certain genre it becomes very important for us that we know some aspects or words before starting so that we will be able to get what’s inside the book. In this book, we see that the writer has written all the words with their meaning so that it becomes easy as well as interesting for the reader to get into the game. The writer has talked about economics and different terms are given by a famous economist. The book is based on economic value and why inequality has been a problem for many. The writer has very deeply talked about the problems and given his solution to the problem. He has talked about almost all the sector in the economy that affects the population either directly or indirectly. All over it is a book for every person who has a lot of interest in politics and economic development. There are people who enjoy fiction and other genre so, for them it might be little dragging but if they read it with all their heart, it will be the book for them. HAPPY READING
There is a concentration of enormous wealth in just a few hands while the vast majority of the rest of the population are working harder, more hours but getting poorer. The Western civilised world has followed such economic policies by most of the governments that now we know that the Top 1% has accumulated almost all the wealth. How did this happen? The Author explains how monopolies and such practices consistently managed to collect immense amount of wealth disproportionately at the top end. Government policies helped them rather than hinder. Over the last hundred years or so, the top end became so powerful, they are able to call the shots and shape government policies.
This book is essential reading for those who are interested in the future of our youngsters. The Author clearly shows that the huge inequalities can be changed for the better. Instead of the super rich getting richer and richer while the middle class goes the other way. How many economic policies can surely work for better rewards for the common people.
This is a fascinating insight to create more equality among other benefits. Those who read Thomas Picketty's Noble Prize Winner tome ...huge treatise; will tell you this book here gives us readers a simple and easy understanding of issues in play. He explains the real blow our nation suffered due to the imposition of Austerity by the government. It didn't save the economy, didn't help the people, but many lost their funds, homes or lost lives. Truly a tragedy! Unnecessary too.
I wish more writers would write similar books to change the way of thinking so that there will be worthwhile change giving the hardworking masses better life.
The Holistic Manifesto was really a very insightful book that took me on a journey that raised questions in me and also helped clarified a host of topical issues i hear in the news every now and then.
The book with emphasis on Centre-Left Policies for the Twenty-First Century touches on various subjects that affects the ordinary man and also provides an interesting revelation for the reasons why some people do what they do. The issue of inequality where a factor like the Reagan-Thatcher revolution played a key role coupled with others avers on notable factors and historical precedents that has determined some of the things we live with in this day and age.
I also appreciated the grounding he provided in the early parts of the book where he touched on economists and various economic theorists and their propositions on various economic principles. It definitely corroborated the major topics that were discussed. Like Adam Smith and Classical Economics coupled with others like Milton Friedman and Monetarist Economics etc.
It's a book that is absolutely educational and captures not just economic issues but that of very relatable issues, including governance issues, The Media in Public Broadcasting, Transportation, Criminal Justice etc. It's an informative book that helps demystifies a host of global incidences and situations we live and face in this day and age. And of course, i disagreed with some of the principles and statements in there on an intellectual level but they still provided the needed insight.
You need to be focused and ready to read this book, it's got all the juice for you to be informed on past years and contemporary years issues.
The book begins with a very well laid out index, exactly giving us what to expect. I mention this because given the nature of the content of the book, good organization if the material is very much necessary for easy reading and understanding. The author combines various economical and political ideas and facts about United States and United Kingdom and then merge this to produce fitting statements that resonate the strength of the nations. Looking at the index one would feel that there's lot to absorb but not many pages and that's one of the strength of the book. It gives us the concise information required from the related literature but at the same time making sure we are well familiar with all the terms. It then shows us how globalization and other socio-political factors affect the said economic terms. The book tries to explain the causes of inequalities in countries' economies and then tries to give solutions by providing information about various helpful policies. It also provides with data that the government spend for their campaigns and how to reduce these huge amounts. Although I felt much if this was vert theoretical and not well defined like rest of the things. Overall, the book is a somewhat a political and economical manifesto to know about the political and economical scenarios that governs the 2 nations.

This book needs so much focus and the knowledge of the basics of economics to understand, so if you know nothing about economy, this book is not for you. I like the writer’s style, how he adds some examples to clarify some cases, and his way of dividing the paragraphs to make the reading easier. Also, explaining some terminology and theories at the beginning of the book was very useful, even though I studied economy at college, it added a lot to my knowledge and helped me a lot while reading. Moving to the comparison made between the financial crisis in the past and in 2008, this part was very well written, it felt like reading an entertaining story but in economics. Then comes inequality, which is clearly the main reason for writing the book, the case was well stated from the writer’s point of view and its reasons and solutions made a lot of sense to a leftist mindset, despite not being a leftist, I enjoyed that part so much.
To sum it up, this book is really worth the time and effort.
I got introduced to this book from BookTasters and chose it without knowing what's about it. I wanted to surprise myself when I start to read the book. Honestly, this was my first read of something related to economics and I felt like giving up when I first opened the first few pages of the book and I didn't even get to the first chapter yet. I thought it's going to be just something like from the school books that you read
However, I was quite surprised how the author listed all the words that are used in the book and explained what they mean. The book was easy to read thanks to the well-defined terms on the first part. I got to understand how the changes from the past to the present affects the country's economic state whether political, economic, and technological changes.
Overall, this book gave me a perspective of how was the economy in the UK during the 1980s, how it changed with time considering that a lot of things had happened.
This book is exceptionally drawn to the picture of political economy, inequality, and the social breakdown of the developed countries of the West. This means development does not mean equality all the time. Even a literate, person is involved in these types of activities where they are practising inequalities. We have several examples of this. In the beginning, the writer defined all the definitions of economics, according to many economists. He defined their point of view on economics. After that, he tried to find reasons for the inequality in which he tried to explain the reason from the economic perspective. Later in the book, he tried to provide existing solutions for the inequalities. Then in the Holistic manifestation, he covers all the policies related to the economy and explained each of them from a different point of view. He tried to show the reason and the solution to the biggest problems. Thank you all for providing this wonderful book to me.
The Holistic Manifesto by E.P. Anthony is a book bursting with ideas, a veritable treasure trove of them. And E.P. Anthony does an excellent job of presenting complex economic jargon in concise language for the nonexpert.
With a background in biological science, I am sadly not in a position to critically evaluate the merits and demerits of this "Manifesto", but the policies E.P. Anthony puts forward have a certain common sense quality that feels right.
Inequality is a pressing issue of our time. The book shows how it exacerbates social ills and individual malaise. Our present situation is dire enough any practical suggestion on how to ameliorate it is worth exploring.
If there's a lesson we have learnt this year, it is that when humanity invests significant effort in solving a problem any obstacle can be overcome.
This was the hardest read of my life for many reasons. Firstly, I am no economist, and have absolutely no training in finance, trading, etc. I had to study Economics as a subject in my first year of Law School in France, it was the most difficult class for me. This book, especially the parts detailing the many economic theories and then the different models was a painful reminder of those months having to study, by heart, what was in the book, as I could not understand a word. I speak many languages (besides Law school, also studied Languages and Literature applied to Politics and Cinema), but Economics is a jargon of its own. The book contains many figures and I will honestly say I glazed over them. Additionally, some paragraphs (Piketty, for example) contains equations… something that scares and petrifies me since middle school.
I decided to give the book another try, then another one, and a last one, only because I had accepted BookTasters’ offer to review it. Having to read it in PDF format was not helpful either, especially for someone who likes to take notes; it slowed me down immensely. Re-reading it multiple times, even at snail speed, was the only way for me to try and get into it, try and understand it though.
Of course, I realized, after the exposition of the many economic theories, that the book was geared to mostly Anglo-Saxon countries with the Scandinavian being sort of the “outsider” (they have a part specific to them in the book) and now and again Japan (it feels like an exotic touch). I wish the author had explored also the French system, especially since he quoted Piketty quite a lot and a few other French economist (Tirole amongst them), and especially since the French economic system has had more recent experiences with center-left economic than the UK (and certainly than the US! The Obama era may appear “center-left” to those who do not live in the US, but for those of us who do and who have had the chance to live in France, we know it is not).
When I reached the Part called The Holistic Manifesto, after having re-read the first 4 parts (page 1 thru 128) four times, I thought that what now that I had gone thru theoretical arguments, I had finally reached the Grail and what I was going to read would be a program, in a clear format, that would make sense, that I could believe in, an Economic Credo of sorts that would give me hope for the future. Alas, each part of these pages (135 thru 281) again accumulated many examples of past events (often catastrophic ones for the working and middle classes, most of them before 2016 -the book was published in 2016-, some of them having made the news either in the UK or in the US) and the solutions were sort of buried amongst the text, only recognizable because of the use of the conditional tense (would/should/could) which made them hypothetical propositions.
For its defense, this part is definitely Holistic, in as much as not a single aspect of economic and political life has been set aside. It is an “all-inclusive package.” I am still not quite sure why the author who is visibly on top of his subject would accept as the truth, the 2014 accolade from a US-based Washington Fund in 2014 naming the UK’s NHS the “world’s best healthcare system” or is that British humor? With only 61% of Brits approving of NHS delivery (as per the book), and for having dealt with both the NHS in the UK, the pre-ACA and the ACA in the US, the Soviet healthcare system, and the French system, I would vote for the French healthcare system hands down. The WHO has given the #1 place to France for overall efficiency while the UK only ranks at #18… In the same way, the author’s enthusiasm for the all- electric Tesla model S, at almost $75,000 seems unreasonable and certainly out of range for the working-class and the middle- class. That example is, again, either some British humor, or the unveiling of a center-left person with a wallet leaning towards the right. Any environmental policy should exclude items that will widen the gap between the upper class and the rest of us. Air Travel may appear as the most polluting means of transportation, but maybe the making of the components to assemble the Tesla pollute as much.
I very much enjoyed the arguments in chapters 5.10 to 5.20; and I thought that the author’s analysis in chapters 5.15 (Demographics and Immigration), 5. 17 (The Criminal Justice System), and 5.18 (especially the part about the Arts, the values of the Liberal Elites versus those of the working classes and the clash that results in the raise of the right) was showing in-depth knowledge of the social woes of Western democracies at large and not solely the UK and the US. The author has brilliantly laid out the arguments and counterarguments, especially in the chapter about Demographics and Immigration, as well as some suggestions for solutions. My only “reality check” here would be that his idea of giving visas and citizenships to overseas students rather than to low-skilled workers is not a guarantee of integration. 9/11 first and then other examples of terrorism, including in the UK, have shown that highly educated immigrants or of 2nd or 3rd generation can also fall prey to the inflamed discourse of a fanatic cleric.
In brief, the author writes for the “initiated” in Economy first and foremost, not for the ordinary citizen, even vaguely interested in economy. But his more sociological chapters are an easy read, (and a much more interesting one for me)
I appreciated that he dedicated this book to his late dad, “who wouldn’t have agreed with half of this.” And the artwork for the cover is very much eye-catching and beautiful. If only the formatting inside had followed…
The Holistic Manifesto is one kind of book I read this month. I am glad I did read it. The author has written the book in a very different manner which makes us to understand socio economic and political challenges of the countries globally, highlighting the political differences and divisions that changed the world. It is the perfect balance of economics, politics with evidences. The author wrote a balanced set of policies aiming at inequality which would improve productivity and GDP of the country. If you are into politics and would want to improve your knowledge about economy of different nations, this book is just the best read.

It's a rarity that a book can tackle a topic incorporating all angles including the historical, the political and the socio-economic. The Holistic Manifesto does this and more, guiding the reader through the complexities of inequality and the solutions needed. Pragmatic and a thorough grounding in economic policy, the book demands focus and the rewards reaped are innumerable. A must-read for anyone interested in the reality of managing unequal systems and the sacrifices it would take.
I rarely read modern books about politics and finance I usually prefer articles but man this was a masterpiece!
I had some difficulties in the beginning because of the language, some expressions and the amount of knowledge that I felt the need to comprehend. As someone who’s not very familiar with economics but is into politics I think that this book is a great introduction.
This book definitely did raise a lot of curiosity and questions in me and I can’t wait to read more about this subject.
The Holistic Manifesto is quite literally a complete manifesto in support of left-leaning economic policies. The book starts by defining and summarizing terms and history in various democratic economies, what worked vs. what didn't work. From there, the author goes on to define what inequality is, how it came to be, along with some various ways we can reduce it. I found the book very informative. It might be a tad difficult to read if you don't have any background on the subject, and at times, the book can read like a college textbook. Still, I commend the author for taking so many broad topics and connecting them to the issue of inequality and social injustice. This should be required reading for all centrist, common-sense political leaders.
