Halven Rising #2

Fates Entwined

Rate this book
They can never be together. The notion is laughable. Humans are inferior, a scourge on the Fae and on the magic passed down to them by angels millennia ago. And if Keen finds himself drawn to the tiny human female, he keeps it to himself. He won't add to the half-breed problem that threatens his people's existence.

Reese can't stand Keen. He criticizes her clothing, won't answer a straight question, and is too handsome for her peace of mind.

Her entire life, people have pegged Reese for a shallow, ditzy blond. She won't accept the stereotype from the large, arrogant Fae too. But after Keen saves her life, she begins to question what truly lies beneath his stoic demeanor.

Forced together, Keen and Reese fight to survive among enemies, and Keen makes choices Reese couldn't have predicted. She glimpses a side of him that is protective and dangerously seductive.

But Keen refuses to acknowledge their connection.

Until he's faced with the decision to betray his people, or lose Reese forever.

I loved Reese Fisher and Keen Albercht.

At the end of Fates Divided, Elena Rosales’s best friend, Reese, had been taken to the faerie realm, particularly Tirnan. Elena would do whatever it took to protect her best friend, but with the precarious situation that Old and New Kingdom were left in at the end of book one, her bodyguard, Keen, was put on the job. Thus began an interesting journey of fate, free will, and learning who the true enemy was.

I liked the relationship that Keen and Reese had playing in the background of book one. They had chemistry, even if they had convinced themselves that they hated each other, which was not the case. They were so attracted to each other, in fact, that the only way they knew how to fight it was with jabs and insults. Needless to say, I had to know how their story ended, or began. I wanted them to end up together, but they were both such strong personalities, I didn’t know if it would be possible.

This book did not disappoint in answering all of the questions that I had about Keen and Reese. Their romance was a slow burn, unlike Elena and Derek’s. Their relationship was almost too fast for my liking in Fates Divided, and Reese wasn’t going to let that happen. She and Elena were complete opposites. While Elena was also strong, Reese was strong for a different reason. Elena was strong because she had lived a love-filled life but one that she had to face without parents. Reese, however, had both parents but not enough love. She had put up a façade of how she really was and only a few saw past it. I liked the feisty roommate and thought she added a lot to this series.

Keen was a bigot and slight misogynist; however, almost all of his was centered around the culture that he had grown up in. The fae looked at men and women in a centuries old fashion, as in women needed protecting, and it was men’s job to do it. It’s just how it had always been, and he couldn’t understand Reese. While I rolled my eyes or snorted at his way of thinking, it strengthened his character. I loved him, in fact, because of how much that old way of thinking translated into a need to protect Reese.

The war and way of the fae confused me a bit. I wasn’t sure how some of the treaties and promises worked. It tied all together in the end, but at the beginning it didn’t make much sense about why it was the way it had to be. Nevertheless, Barnard has created a new version of the fae, taking the old and blending it with her version of things.

If you’re a fan of faeries, fantasy, and magic, this is the perfect series to check out. It incorporates modern science, ways of thinking, and strong female leads with magic, chivalry, and male leads that will make you swoon.

-Solid follow-up to Fates Divided. I had very much enjoyed Fates Divided because of the core romance of Derek and Elena, and interesting world of Tirnan, where the Fae (children of the angels) live. Ms. Barnard and expanded on this world, while giving good, angsty romance and action. I really enjoyed my time getting to know Keen and Reese and seeing what’s next for all the Halven. In the interest of staying spoiler-free, I won’t go into too much detail about the plot but it’s well paced with a good mix of action and romance and it had me happy to dive into my time in Tirnan.

-Worldbuilding continues to impress me. This is a series (with a standalone romance at the heart of each book) regarding the conflict between the New and Old Kingdoms in Tirnan and the Halven (half-human/half-Fae children) who are coming into power and disrupting the order of things. The worldbuilding continues to expand, and there are several more reveals about the relationships between the Fae themselves, as well as their angelic ancestors, that gave good depth to the overarching storyline and has me invested in the outcome of this tale.

-Angsty romance. What I love is that even with an overarching storyline, this book stands on its own due to the romance, and there is definitely a feeling of resolution that has me content and yet wanting to see what couple is next and what will ultimately happen to Tirnan. There’s angst, but it doesn’t cross into overwrought territory. Reese and Keen have legitimate reasons as to why they shouldn’t be together, and they face some serious obstacles to their romance. It has a fairy tale quality to it, and even some sacrifices and by the end, I felt that they’d earned their HEA.

-Well balanced between action and romance. One of my quibbles with the first book was that certain key things happened off-page and there was a feeling of isolation at times. I think Fates Entwined really stepped up in the action department and gave a good balance between both (there’s even a secondary romance). While still contained, there are new locations introduced and action sequences that brought home the fact that there are some serious stakes involved and there is genuine danger and death.

-Slightly repetitive inner monologuing and continuity issues. My quibble with this one was in the midst of the angst, there was a bit of repetition in those inner monologues. Not glaring, but definitely noticeable. Also, there’s a moment towards the very end that didn’t make a lick of sense due to the amount of time Reese spent in Tirnan after being kidnapped that left me scratching my head a bit, but eh, doesn’t matter I still loved Reese and Keen together.

The Bottom Line 4 stars
I really enjoyed my time in Tirnan with Reese and Keen and I look forward to the next one. I’d definitely recommend for fans of fantasy romance.

I read quite a bit of fantasy, and I read quite a bit of PNR. This series has a little bit of both. While they could be written differently, to me, they are one in the same sometimes. That’s exactly what the author gives us.
We are in the Fae world, and I must admit I didn’t read book one. I accidently started book two, but that didn’t really matter because the author did a splendid job catching the reader up to what had happened previously in book one.
I did feel the storyline was a little of the same when it comes to lands of the Fae versus the real world stuff. Not a new feeling regarding world building. It’s hard to take a mythical world that I have read so many times and paint it as your own. I did enjoy the story as a whole, though. The dialogue was witty, and I felt the characters were adamant in their conviction. In all, I would say I would read the next book following this one.

4 stars.

4-1/2 stars. Fates Entwined picks up where Fates Divided left off, only this time we get Elena's roommate, Reese's, point of view along with Keen's, Elena's fae body guard. There is more angst this time around, which is my not so secret passion. The whole forbidden love thing is a favorite of mine and it works really well here. When Reese is kidnapped at a frat party and taken into the fae realm, Keen lives up to his promise to Elena to find her and bring her back. The problem is, the evil fae queen is using her as a bargaining chip. With the war of the fae worlds about to erupt, there's more action this time around, and Reese is a little spitfire caught in the midst of it all.

Plot
The main plot is really the battle between the old and new world faes with the romance as a strong subplot rather than the main plot. However the romance drives Keen's and Reese's actions for much of the story. The pacing is well-done, and I never got bored. I loved the way the author teased us throughout with the whole "will they or won't they" trope.

Characters
We get both Reese's and Keen's points of view, but Reese is the narrator for well more than half. She's spunky, smart, and brave, but she also experiences growth throughout the story. It was fun watching her evolve from the opening pages through the nail-biting ending. Keen has his own character arc and his is more full than Reese's as he's forced to acknowledge his Halven bigotry in order to get what he wants -- Reese.

World Building
Once again, Jules Barnard delivers an imaginative world in vivid detail. Everything from the landscape and castle to the clothing is richly detailed. The rules of the fae world are as intricate as many of Reese's formal gowns.

Top Five Things I Enjoyed About Fates Entwined
1. Reese. She's so awesome. I love her attitude, her strength and courage. Really everything about her! She was my favorite character in Fates Divided, so I was thrilled to read her point of view.

2. Keen. Still love him just as much as I did in the first book, and maybe more now that I've been inside his head.

3. Fae politics. Come on, what's not to love about that?

4. The action. I loved all the battles in this installment.

5. The angst. The best kind of romance.

Bottom Line
My favorite book in the series so far. I can't wait to read the next one!

Find this review and more on my blog The Rest Is Still Unwritten!

Fates Entwined is the second novel in Jules Barnard’s Halven Rising series and is a wonderfully told story of excitement, adventure and heart-stopping romance that will thrill from beginning until end!

Reese Fisher had no idea Fae existed until her best friend Elena discovered she was Halven, the result of a Fae having a child with a human. Now Reese finds herself thrust into the dangerous world of Fae, kidnapped by an evil leader hoping to use Reese’s connection to her friend as leverage. Imprisoned, Reese is shocked to discover the person who comes to rescue her is Keen, the arrogant, blond haired Fae who criticized everything about Reese, infuriates her like no other and who sets her blood on fire. Keen Albrecht is a Fae warrior who agrees with the sentiment that humans are inferior….so why does the tiny, mouthy Reese get under his skin no matter what he does? He knows a relationship with one of her kind would never be tolerated, but for Keen, Reese is never far from his mind. That’s probably why he agrees to rescue her, before quickly finding himself pledging his loyalty to an unjust Queen in order to keep Reese safe. They can never be together, but with Reese and Keen unable to deny the chemistry that burns between them, will they find a way to be together, or will duty and preconceived notions keep them apart forever?

Having previously really enjoyed the first book in this series, I was delighted to discover Fates Entwined was as good as its predecessor, if not better! Unfolding through main characters Reese and Keen’s varying POV, Fates Entwined had it all; action, excitement, romance, danger and some seriously sizzling chemistry between the two main characters. There wasn’t an aspect of this story I wasn’t happy with—the romance between Reese and Keen was perfect, I adored the additional characters Barnard introduced including Illa and Ulric who were just too cute, and I thought the developments to the storyline were excellent and highly entertaining; good world building.

Ever since we were first introduced to Reese and Keen in Fates Divided, I have been eagerly anticipating the moment we would see them feature in their own tale and explore the delectable connection that seemed to simmer between them from the moment they met. Throughout Fates Entwined, author Jules Barnard fantastically explored their relationship and satisfies my curiosity.

Reese was a likable heroine to follow and I loved her fire, tenacity and personality. I liked she knew who she was and didn’t apologize or let Keen tell her what to do. Reese had spunk as well as a good balance between personal strength and vulnerability. While Keen on the other hand, was all stoic warrior and fierce defender with a smidgen of cheek and arrogance that I quite liked. They really worked well together and complimented each other as characters.

Jules Barnard wrote an addictive romance between Reese and Keen that has fire, sizzle and sensational chemistry. They’ve always had electricity together, even as they fought and bickered initially in the first book, so Fates Entwined simply highlights that chemistry they’ve always shared and lets us see them fall in love. There’s an unmistakable aura of forbidden and a will-they-won’t-they feel, especially on Keen’s end as he fights to convince himself he doesn’t want Reese, even as his every thought and action is in contradiction. It was delightful to watch unfold and highly entertaining.

Sensationally paced with the perfect blend of romance mixed with action, fight scenes and wonderful dialogue, Fates Entwined is an excellent sequel and leaves me highly excited to read the third, and I believe, final novel when it’s released!

Reese Fisher wasn’t going to stay at home on her eighteenth birthday. Instead of celebrating at a fraternity party, she finds herself imprisoned in a New Kingdom dungeon surrounded by Fae.

They claim that she’s a Halven of royal blood and that she’s now a pawn in the struggle for control of both the New and Old Kingdoms. And the one Fae that can insure her safety is none other than her roommate’s arrogant bodyguard – Keen.

Keen grabbed her trembling hand, twisting it this way and that. “The signs: shaking, which happens when Halven come into their powers; surviving for days under extreme circumstances no human could have survived.” His bright gaze lifted to hers. “I sense it now.” He stared past her. “I try not to sense anything around you, but if I pay attention— I sense it. The energy level you give off… different from before. You are Halven.” A hint of fear touched his voice.

Keen Albrecht is sent to find the missing Reese and discovers her half alive in the Fae realm. To save her life, he’s forced to swear loyalty to the evil Portia.

Keeping Reese safe is all that matters to him and his feelings for her now go far beyond anything that he ever expected. As a battle between the Kingdoms grows ever closer, he will do anything to ensure her survival – even pledge to marry another.

They may all come out of this victorious, but the biggest casualty will be his heart.

He understood it now— her effect on him. She’d taken hold of his heart from the moment she talked back to him, and he would never be the same. But if there was one thing his kind did for those they loved, it was protect them. If that was all he could do for Reese, it would have to be enough.

Lately, I have developed a weakness for exceptional paranormal romance and Fates Entwined totally fit the bill! Not only does it have a healthy dose of the required magic and adventure, it also packs enough sexual tension and angst to seduce any hardcore romance reader.

Jules’ complex characters and her fast paced storyline literally held me spellbound from beginning to end – and now I secretly want to be a Halven myself…

It is always fun to watch two characters who seemingly cannot stand each other fall victim to love. It is classic and a storyline that will never get old. Reese and Keen are as opposite as they can possibly be, or so it would seem. When these two first meet in the first book of the series, their disgust of one another is both harsh and comical. It is obvious something is brewing below the surface and we finally get the whole picture in Fates Entwined.

This story takes us back into the Fae world that Reese and Elena have been thrust into. This time, Reese is caught in the crosshairs of a political scheme and has no idea what is happening. This book is both fun and teasing with a hint of danger. Reese is a strong headed and capable young woman who is determined to make her own way. That stubbornness gets her into trouble and makes her situation all the more entertaining. The romance between Reese and Keen is brilliant. They both fight it until there is nothing to be done about it. It is a story of a stoic Fae who is confused by his feelings but determined to do whatever is necessary to protect Reese. What starts as obligation becomes a dangerous game of love and loyalty, one that could go so very wrong or so very right.

I love the world Barnard has created. There is always something new to learn in this otherworldly realm. There is history and new realities to explore. I love how Reese crashes into that world and takes it by storm, both causing havoc in the schemes of the Queen and Keen's heart. We see a lot of Derek and Elena, which is always something I enjoy. There is a fight of good verse evil and the sacrifices that need to be made are not always the easiest to endure. I am excited for what happens next in the series and dying to know what is going to happen!

This review was originally posted on Cocktails and Books

The minute Reese and Keen met each other, I knew theirs was going to be a story that rocked Keen's world.

Keen and Reese were like oil and water. They bickered, argued and fought a hot attraction to each other, all while they had to fight her kidnappers and the new Fae squabble going on.

Fae politics aside, Keen had to deal with his own prejudices against human and what that meant when it came to Reese. He hid behind the guise of protector her, but it was more protecting himself and his belief system. He didn't want to think he could be wrong, which led to more confusion and hurt feelings on Reese's part.

With the Fae world in continued upheaval, Reese learns more about her true family. Like Elena, she had to come to an understanding about what she had been lead to believe and what reality was. It wasn't always easy, but in the end Reese ended up with her unconventional family that loved her no matter what.

Another great entry in this series. I look forward to seeing where things will go next.

( I received this book free form the author in exchange for my honest review )

My my my, for a minute there I though this book would be a retelling of the first book but form Reese's POV. So glade that minute passed in a hurry.

I love this series, it is simply amazing.

The writing was outstanding, this plot is on point and never lots. The romance is clean, as in, I wasn’t annoyed with it but wanted more of it that and, the instal-love didn’t even bother me because I was so enthralled with the story and the characters. In this case it actually helped with the two block heads we have as leads. I call them that because of the straight up denial they were in.

This book is a perfect match for it’s predecessor, fast, fun, full of action and a race once again to save it all. I’m hoping there's more books about this world, because I want more.

I highly recommend this book, this series, it’s the insta-love done right.

Happy Reading

I loved Reese Fisher and Keen Albercht.

At the end of Fates Divided, Elena Rosales’s best friend, Reese, had been taken to the faerie realm, particularly Tirnan. Elena would do whatever it took to protect her best friend, but with the precarious situation that Old and New Kingdom were left in at the end of book one, her bodyguard, Keen, was put on the job. Thus began an interesting journey of fate, free will, and learning who the true enemy was.

“An honorable sacrifice for the greater good of the Fae realms”

Keen & Reese’s story is no less interesting or magical than Book #1 FATES DIVIDED, where they were introduced as two beings who seemed to be at spitting odds despite their undeniable and obvious attraction to each other. Reese Fisher’s roommate and bestie Elena was assigned a Viking-looking Fae bodyguard named Keen Albrecht - a total prig of a guy; self-centered, arrogant, prejudices, and chauvinistic for starters, always ready with negative comments on her choice of attire and activities. But when Reece finds herself taken captive to the Fae realm of Tirnan, Reese was thankful for his intervention and getting her released from her three-day-long miserable existence under observation in a New Kingdom dungeon, to be used as a pawn in the already-brewing Fae business.

Keen has been fighting what he has felt deep down ever since laying eyes on this tiny, little human. Now a nobleman-turned-Fae-warrior, specifically an Emain guard on Earth at the college Elena and Reese attend, Keen had long ago given up all rights as heir in line to the throne to the Old Kingdom. Representing the last of his family line, as the reputed strongest soldier in any of the realms, he simply cannot allow himself to give in to any dalliances with humans or Halven, no matter how much he wished to during his sworn servitude to the New Kingdom. But when difficult choices are forced upon him, with the very lives of Fae in all kingdoms still very much at stake as well as those of the part-human newcomers, Keen discovers he is quite willing to do what it takes to keep Reese safe, because this little firecracker not only turns out to be much, much more than she seemed at first, she somehow has become more important to him than he cares to admit, especially to himself.

This story brings even more rich detail to the Fae realms, introducing complexities (and new characters) I look forward to getting unraveled in the next adventure(s) to come!

I have an addiction. Give me a good first book of a new series and I have a hard time not turning right to whatever books follow that have been published. That’s exactly what happened with Fates Divided and Fates Entwined, the first two books of Jules Barnard’s Halven Rising series. In a way that is a positive review in and of itself, as this series wouldn’t have been so addictive if it was t so so gooood. This series is indeed “filled with magic, forbidden love, and danger” as promised in its publisher’s blurb, to which I’d add romance, magic and action. Both Elena and Derek’s tale and Reese and Keen’s story are great and a total pleasure to follow along to well written plots, sharing what looks to be a string story arc and filled with great supporting characters and superb world-building. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the books definitely deserve it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each of these book is most definitely one to read, and they are both easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

That book is dumb and empty. The main character is so Mary Sue, the love/passion is so out of nowhere. There is no tension, only the queen is dangerous, be careful, that kind of stuff, but nothing really happens. They all are just doing some random things. The whole prisoner thing doesn’t make sense at all.
Apart from being Mary Sue, the main character is also constantly doing some stupid things, ending up almost dying, and male MC is always angry about that and they have sex. Although it was a mistake when they first did it, they do it again. Cliche is also here: I will be marrying your sister but our love will always be in our hearts.
All the story is just whining about not being able to be together, MC being dumb and stupidly proud not needing any help, but always accepting Keen’s help. And of course she is insanely beautiful and Keen can’t help but want her. Wait, wait, wait, doesn’t she hate him? It’s so messed up! The idea had some potential, but the delivery is the worst.

Reese is hardcore. She’s confident, bold, a fighter, and not afraid to speak her mind. She challenges and gives back and much as she gets. She’ll never let anyone force her to do something she doesn’t want to. Her bravery is intense. She is clever and happy with herself despite her past hurts. Reese has sass for days. Her dialogue is funny, emotionally charged, and she’s a master at those fighting words.

Keen is set in his ways. He has biased views of Halven and solid ideas about a woman’s place, but Reese throws him off-center. From the minute he meets her, she changes his world and he opens his eyes past his prejudice. Keen is sexy, flirty, and completely commanding. He brings the heat and together with Reese, it’s explosive.

Reese nearly died when she was imprisoned in the New Kingdom dungeon, but when Keen finds her he will save her life. It doesn't take long for Reese to realize that she is a pawn in a power struggle between kingdoms. Keen will do anything to protect the beautiful young Halven that he has come to love. He will soon find out that Reese is determined to fight for the rightful ruler of the New Kingdom. Reese is head over heels in love with Keen, but she won't stand by and let others fight when she is perfectly capable of helping.
Wonderfully fascinating and unique characters, all willing to fight in order to protect their people and loved ones. Wow, magic betrayal, suspenseful, with lots of action and a happily ever after, I loved this book, and can't wait to find out what happens next!

I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this book.

BOOK 2 immediately takes off where book 1 ended. This is from Reese's point of view. Reese was Elena's roommate in the human world. She was kidnapped by the big bad in book 1. Reese goes through a series of life changing revelations from parentage to being more a part of Elena's world than she anticipated. A battle for power ensues, Elena loses someone close to her as quickly as she found them. The love story is a slow burn, will they wont they, from different world and views kinda thing... They clearly love each other but there's another that he's promised to. Royalty and their arranged marriages, no one wants to go through with it, they each love someone else but accept the pairing due to political reasons and threats. Just when you think we have a happy ending... plot twist! Cliffhanger. Geez what an ending... gotta get my hands on the next book.

Keen and Reese’s story picks up where the last story ended and is just as action-packed as the first. Keen will do anything possible to save Reese, even if it means pledging himself to the evil queen and promising to marry Reese’s halfsister. These two have been fighting their feelings from the very beginning and now that they’ve discovered she’s a halven, she’s in even more trouble than she would have been as a human and he’s determined to make sure she is safe. Watching these two fight their feelings is heartbreaking, but when he finally gives in to his feelings, it’s fiery! I cannot wait to see what happens next with these mysterious fae that have shown up. I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Thanks for an ARC to read and review with my honest opinion. The cover is real cute but the blurb and the finale on the last book made me want to continue the series.

This is Reese and Keens book....much better chemistry between these two. Both show each other that they will go the distance for the other even if it drives them crazy. Keen is an alpha and possessive Fae, bent on protecting Reese from herself. Locked into a battle of wills with the Fae Queen Portia, he services himself to the Queen to protect Reese and ends up getting himself engaged to Reese's sister.

What did I like? The alpha vs Miss I'll do what I want played up nice. The reading this time was much quicker since we have got the gist of the storyline down from the previous book, so read them in order.

Would I buy this book? Yup, this book not only caught my eye but love the alpha male thing Keen has going on. So if you've read book one and didn't really care for it...book two is worthy.

Thoughts for the author? Bring me the final book... the Dark Fae in the end was a surprise and I liked it. You gave me enough that I would read part three without hesitation. Four stars of entertainment!

I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I am really enjoying this series. Journeying into the Fae realm, falling in love and finding out your father is really a Fae nobleman. Throw in some superpowers and some epic battles and you just scratch the surface of what is happening in this story.

The characters in this story are so well written, they seem as familiar as my own neighbours. (Maybe taller.) Each story makes them feel more real. The Fae realm, to me, has a real "Game of Thrones" feel to it. Right down to the Ice.

I am very excited to read book 3. Halven Rising, Halven Rule!

What an awesome addition to the Halven Rising Series!! I loved Reese and Keen as well as several others. The story continues on through Reese and Keen from where Reese wakes up after being taken. Reese is a strong willed spark plug that isn't afraid to tell anyone what she thinks which is awesome. Keen on the other hand is an over protective warrior fighting his affection towards Reese. Sparks fly when they are in the same room. Many obstacles will need to be over come before thoughts of togetherness can even be considered!

I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.

Reese has always been headstrong and determined to do what she wants. Keen has always taken his duty as a Fae guard seriously. He is not supposed to want her, but his heart has other plans. Will Keen be able to protect Reese before it is to late? Will Reese be able to finally learn the truth of her ancestry?

Loved the heat between these two. I loved how strong Reese was and while learning everything she thought was the truth was a lie, she could have crumbled, but she just used it to make herself stronger. I loved how dedicated Keen was to keeping her safe and how he was willing to risk everything. Great read and cannot wait for the next book in the series!

First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review. .

I no sooner finished the first book & I got wrapped up in this one, & I couldn't put it down. This story is a continuation of book one but with more to it. It still has Elena & Derek in it and all the evil fae, but the story is more about Elena’s BF, Reese, & Keen. Just when all seems right, the end pulls you in for the next story. I can't wait to read the next book, so Ms. Jules hurry & finish writing it please. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

Absolutely fantastic read and loved it. I feel this one was much better then the first book. In the first book we put our toes in the water a little bit the second book we just kind of Dive Right In. The author did right in this book thank god it wasn't another 14 hour book. I have to say I did skip about 2 hours but like I thought what the first book I was able to Recaps at the end. But much much better I will love to see what comes in the 3 books.

The narration really brought this book to life, adding more depth and emotion!

Ahhh... malicious manipulation. How I loathe it!

Keen is a horses backside and doesn't understand the emotional axe he wields as he interacts with Reese. Reese is... I am not sure if she is just snotty or if she is just dancing "daddy issues" non-stop. Well, they both have "issues" and they became likable. The half-sibling stuff had me curious as I was unsure at the sincerity of the connections. I wonder if we will see more of this growing relationship with Reese's bio-family or if they will become peripheral in the next book.

This story was my first exposure to this author via an audiobook. I enjoyed the world she built for us with different Fae kingdoms, including a community on earth. There was a good couple of twists in there, which were unexpected and well done. This book kept me on my toes, it had a good tempo to it and it leads into the next book very well.
I was invested in each of the characters, enjoyed the variety and the types of powers they had. I don't usually read fantasy so this was a nice, easy lead into the world of Fae for me. I will definitely read more in the series.

I received an advance review copy of this book and had already gotten tonknow the characters from the first book. I have to say that I enjoyed this one even more than the first- the characters felt much more believable and well developed, and he main character Reese is the kind of girl who can’t be held back. I’m very interested in reading the next one as I have high hopes it will be even better! 4.5 stars!

I love how he, with all his brutal male, is so protective of her and I wish had a little bit more POV of his feelings earlier in the book, my heart was about to explode I really thought he was going through with the whole ceremony... but like how things turn out I only don't like that she say no to the proposal... and how she was in the pill if she has been locked up? That's the only thing that bothered me.

I was intrigued to read Reese and Keen’s story after reading Fates Divided. They were both such interesting side characters from the first book and Jules Barnard didn’t disappoint!! Just like the first, it’s fast paced and full of action, totally keeping my interest. Can’t wait for what’s in store for the next book in the series.

Wow! This book is just incredible. It's got strong characters, with their own voices. It's got a detailed plot that keeps readers on their toes. It has a world so complete that you feel like a part of it as you read. and a romance that keeps you begging for more. I just gobbled up books 1 and 2, now I'm not patiently waiting for book 3.
