What happens when a free-spirited young advertising rep gets handed the job of a lifetime—for an attractive entrepreneur she’s very interested in? Can she meet his demands for an eye-catching advertising campaign while avoiding personal entanglement? And what’s she to do about solving everyone else’s problems while her world is in chaos?Inexperienced ad rep Greta Goodwin dreams of making a name for herself in the cutthroat world of advertising—a dream that may be difficult to achieve, given that no one takes her seriously due to her penchant for eccentric clothing. However, when choice client Simon Wright—who also happens to be drop-dead gorgeous—is unsatisfied with snooty Mae Egan’s proposed elitist ad campaign for his casual British-style teahouse, Greta’s agency is given one final chance to make amends…and Greta is tapped for the job.
This cover is beyond accurate to this story, and is so cute. I love every detail!!!
Greta the main character is full of spunk and sass. Her inner monologues that she has are very entertaining and I feel like really real, as people we often think a lot of things without voicing them.
The Greta at the beginning of the novel is very hard working and driven, but doesn't really see her self worth. This is very evident with her 'relationship' with Brandon. He is a complete and total douche.
Simon is literally my favourite part of this whole entire novel. However, there were two moments I was not too sure about him. The first is when he first meets Greta and just walks away with basically a scowl on his face. And the other is when a situation arises with the advertisement for the Wright Tea company and he is pretty rude to her over the phone and disconnects. However, in spite of all of that, I feel like his character has depth, realness (which is evident with him having real emotions when his company is in jeopardy), and definitely grows throughout this novel as does Greta.
Greta realizes that being herself is the best in any situation. She doesn't have to try and be someone she is not. However, Greta also seems a bit immature as well to some degree. Her expectations towards Simon seem a bit unrealistic at times, but is also at the same time totally understandable when you fall in love with someone.
My most favourite part of this novel was Greta and her mom's relationship after Abigail goes on the cruise. They seem so close and more like friends, and even Greta comments on that. I wondered while reading this scene, if my mom was still alive would our relationship have evolved to that level? Would we be that close or closer oo discuss our lives this way and with such openness? I can only hope that we would have been like that, being able to call on one-another at any time and really be there for each other.
While this novel was fun at times, silly, entertaining, sometimes far fetched and sometimes a little too real...I think the main theme of always being true to yourself, your morals, and beliefs are really what everyone should be aspiring too everyday. This novel is uplifting in a sense to know that we all struggle, but we all are out in the world trying to be the best and most authentic versions of ourselves. I would definitely want to see where this next installment takes the characters.
Thank you to the author and illustrator for sending me this book. I was sent this in exchange for an honest review.
This is a quick, light read (I mean this in a good way) that I suspect will find appeal with readers who really enjoy rom-coms. It bugged me that the main character is a bit naive and not a very empowering female figure, but I tend to be pretty picky with my romance reads. That being said, the story is cute and charming.
If romance is a genre you read frequently you may enjoy this.
