Getting the Down

Rate this book
JAKE

I’m the best damn quarterback in the league. Bar none. On and off the field, men want to be me, and women want to be with me.

But she doesn’t care about football. All she knows is I’ve been chosen as the public face of the foundation she works for. Which means I’ll be spending a lot of time staring at that tight little a** and plump, sassy mouth. And I intend to make that time very worth my while.

She’s in charge of cleaning up my image. But I can tell by the way her cheeks flush and her breath hitches when she looks at me: underneath that prim and proper exterior, sexy little Rinn Blake is all kinds of ready to get down and dirty with me.

RINN

I’ve worked my a** off for years to get where I am. And I’m not about to let cocky, full-of-himself Jake Ryland screw it up for me.

Even though every time he looks my way -- eyes raking down my body like he owns it – I feel like I’m going to burst into flames. It makes me want to risk everything to feel his heat.

My career depends on keeping Jake on the straight and narrow, and keeping my brain in the driver’s seat. But Jake Ryland makes me want to lose control. Even if letting go ends up destroying everything I’ve ever worked for.

Getting the Down is a full-length, standalone novel with no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a heart-melting HEA. Special bonus novel THROTTLE included for a limited time!

This book is intended for readers 18 and older due to steamy situations and explicit language.

USA Today bestselling author of alpha males, feisty females, and smoking hot romance.

Small town girl in the big city. Incurable romantic. Hopeless optimist in a realist's body.

Owned by two cats.

A sucker for a bad boy with a soft center.

Hmm, where should I start? Maybe with the positive side of the book? The main plot about the charity and h’s honorable job as a director of a non-profit charitable organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threating medical condition was praiseworthy. My heart broke for the sick children , and I wished .
I highly appreciated that the author raised the topic of a non-profit charity!

As to the romance or rather a lack of it… well, it was just horrible – IMO!
I loved the h till approx. 25% - she was strong and cool. I loved how she put H in his place; their first encounter was epic – bravo, girl! I only liked her after she “gave up” and came together with H and I had no sympathy for her after some events.
My main struggle in this book was how a strong warm-hearted honorable woman fell for a piece-of-sh*t-hero and became kind of “blind”. Because the H was just worst-hero-ever – IMO! I didn’t like him at all! Not a bit!

My triggers and why I almost quit the book:

Redeeming The Player is a stand-alone contemporary sports romance.

Football player Jake’s reputation as a womaniser and all around bad boy needs a serious make-over after a recent event which the media was drawn to.

In an attempt to turn his reputation around he’s told by his team managers that he must spend time with children’s charity Make-A-Wish which helps terminally ill children. He must work alongside Miranda who just so happens to be someone who recently turned him down in a nightclub.

Sparks fly in the form of romance between Jake and Miranda, but Jake also struggles with his new role as it brings up memories of his own childhood which he tried to forget.

This was an okay read, but not a memorable one, it just didn’t engage me as much as I had hoped that it would.

This was a good one! I loved seeing how our MMC went through stages of being a complete womanizer and how he dealt with his issues by partying and picking fights to becoming the man who could keep a girl like Rinn. I enjoyed seeing their interactions with other characters and how Jake connected with the sick children. We didn't get much of his team besides the coach and a couple of douchebag players (kind of wondering if those are his real friends, and if so why and where are the good gius and friends?), so I'm not sure how motivated I am to read the next book, but I will probably give it a go because I enjoyed the writing and storytelling. I really enjoy the standalone that are still interconnected with character relationships, so I hope that this series maybe turns into that? There were quite a few punctuation errors throughout that should have been caught, but otherwise, I enjoyed the book!

Sweet, with heart wrenching moments

I definitely enjoyed reading this story. You have Jake Ryland who can't seem to get his life together and is always causing up a storm in the papers. When he went to far, after being rejected. (Oh yes! Can you imagine a pro football player getting rejected?)
Miranda flat out rejects him and it causes him to spiral into this self pity roll.
His behavior also seems from a past event that causes the loss of his brother, that he blames himself for. 'insert pulling of heartstrings' 💔
He is set to be the face of Give-A-Wish Foundation. He's is not all that excited about it tell, in walks Miranda.

Miranda just wants to sulk after her recent breakup with her cheating ex. Her Best friend drags her out to a club. Reluctantly she goes. Miranda is instantly attracted to Jake. That is until he opened his mouth. (Oh and what a Naughty mouthy Jake has) 😉

You get a few heartbreaking moments in this book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 stars!!!

I did NOT expect to love this book so much! I'm not much of one for sports romance, but Daphne Loveling is one of my all-time favorite authors, so I decided to give her book a chance. And she did NOT disappoint!

Our Hero is a star NFL quarterback who's cocky, self-assured, a womanizer, and just freaking hot. Our heroine is a spunky woman with fire blazing in her soul. Pair these two together for his image makeover, and you've got some seriously explosive chemistry!

This book was EVERYTHING. I felt so connected to the characters, and I could picture each scene in my head as if I were watching a movie. And the fact that the Hero had tattoos? YES PLEASE.

Daphne Loveling hit it out of the park with this one. I'm in LOVE!

Method: ebook

Rating: 3/5 stars

H rating: 3.5/5 - Jake

h rating: 4/5 - Marinda

Drama: 3/5

Thoughts: He seemed a bit of a child with his wild reaction to pain/hurt, but overall I think he was an interesting character, not terrible, she was cool. The sad parts were unexpected but gave the story a bit more. Good read!

Main character was a man child.

I was so excited when I first chose this book to read and then I started reading and I couldn't stop cringing. The concept of the book was promising but the male lead just being immature, an ass and unaccountable for his actions was a turnoff. A pity the story line of sick and dying kids was used to redeem his character. I was going to give one star but felt charitable. The female lead chose to accept less than anyone should so I guess the redeeming characteristic was she lowered her standards.

Good

This was a good book. Nothing too crazy or exciting to be honest. Which is a shame because the writing itself was SO GOOD. The story just didn't do it for me or hold my attention much. I did manage to finish it. I will say this is a great book if you want to read something fast that you don't want to get emotionally involved in. I will attempt another book by Daphne Loveling as I did love the style of her writing and the amount of detail that she puts into the story..

Sweet storyline

As a change of pace to my usual reads, I loved this book.

Thd characters were well written, and the story was well developed.

I enjoyed the fact that she was so strong and steered the relationship, while he did what he could to keep up.

The angst was great, and helped move the story along.

Great read

This was a great read! Marinda and Jake were perfect for one another and the tenderness of how they dealt with the children was so touching. Emotions were raw and heartfelt! I loved the storyline and really enjoyed it. A few grammatical errors but a great read!

Sport romance

Wow. I'm not a sport fan but this was a really fantastic book. All the hot, hunky man you can handle. And a lady that's no pushover
I loved the kind heart our hero displayed to the kids. Keep on writing miss Loveling. I'll keep on buying

Another great read. Enjoy reading the journey of Jake and Miranda. I read out of order. I read the second and third books in the series. Each book is a standalone. They both have issues from their past. Wanted a bit more drama but still an enjoyable read.

Good story

Marina and Jake were good together. She works for a nonprofit that grants wishes to terminally ill children. For that reason, parts of the story were sad. Nothing amazing here, but a good quick read.

Solid story, but quick ending

I liked the plot, but it resolved too quickly. Most of the characters are not well developed. Not as good as most of her books, but worth a read.

It was a ✨spicy✨ one FOR SURE! I thought it was good, a little cliche but the storyline was great! I don’t know how to feel about it going back and forth on perspectives every other chapter.
