The riveting and heartwarming conclusion to the acclaimed series.
“That is how you wrap up a series. (This) was eloquent and beautiful and heartbreaking and fabulous.”
Gordon Finchley knows he’s toast when he crashes his firefighting helicopter into a wildland forest fire. Newly-arrived Ripley Vaughan almost negates his near-miraculous survival when she barely misses slicing him in two with her massive Erickson Aircrane helicopter during rescue.
In deepest irony, a wildfire sweeps over their base camp on Ripley’s first full day. It should be getting better—yet it’s getting worse. Before long, she’s on the far side of the Pacific and losing the battle against both the fire and Gordon’s effect on her heart.
In this riveting wrap-up to the Firehawks series, the entire Mount Hood Aviation heli-attack squad needs all their skills to not get burned by the ultimate wild fire.

USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestseller M. L. “Matt” Buchman started writing on a flight south from Japan to ride his bicycle across the Australian Outback. Just part of a solo around-the-world trip that ultimately launched his writing career.
From the very beginning, his powerful female heroines insisted on putting character first, then a great adventure. He’s since written over 60 action-adventure thrillers and military romantic suspense novels. And just for the fun of it: 100 short stories, and a fast-growing pile of read-by-author audiobooks.
Booklist says: 3x “Top 10 of the Year.” PW says: “Tom Clancy fans open to a strong female lead will clamor for more.” His fans say: “I want more now…of everything.” That his characters are even more insistent than his fans is a hoot. As a 30-year project manager with a geophysics degree who has designed and built houses, flown and jumped out of planes, and solo-sailed a 50’ ketch, he is awed by what is possible. Fav quote: Deep inside her, for the first time ever, she knew there was a perfectly safe, perfectly clear space. A space where Gordon's love would always reside.
M. L. Buchman did it again. Every book I read of his just makes me want to stay in the world and keeping reading. I first found this series almost ten years ago and while it took me forever to finish it, I’ve fallen in love with this world. I’m going to miss MHA, but this just means I’m going to have to do lots of rereads. Looks like I’m going to have to start a new series so I can follow Emily and Mark to Henderson Ranch!
This has a lot of danger, suspense and romance.Tells what it's like to fight a forest fires and how much dangerous it is.How the retired military pilots help out out fires with their helicopters and planes the dump tons of water and fire resident that helps the firefighters on the ground.
Sorry to see this series end. I hope there are other series with Mark and Emily. Night Stalkers was definiteLy the best series. I had trouble liking Riley in the beginning. She was such a jerk to wonderful Gordan. Was gladto see they finally worked it out
This is a favorite author of mine. He balances authentic, technical, often heart-stopping, action, with wonderful characters, full of emotion and meant-to-be romance. I did get tired of Ripley in this story; too much mental gnashing - where did she learn not to trust men, etc - even in the final 2-3 chapters.
Spoiler alert - don't read the back cover. It tells you this book "wraps-up" the series. But as always this mixture of fire-fighting and covert military ops is riveting.
I wonder why I never finished this series. As usual, I loved this one. It is a fitting wrap to the larger Firehawks series. I tend to like M.L. Buchman at the longer length, so this one was good.
This is a wonderful book. I definitely recommend this book to anyone. Ripley was sent to Mount Hood Aviation to fight fires. She had some relationship issues in the past. Her and Gordon's first meeting was shocking to both of them. There was a misunderstanding between them. Fighting fires helped bring them together this is a wonderful read.
Once you've read one of this series it's hard not to want the next one. An action story with problems and solutions by people you know from their own stories. I do hope this series will continue for a while more.
Likable characters, interesting plot and nice continuity with the rest of the series. Very satisfying addition to the series. Wish it were not the last one!
Buchman knows how to leverage details to keep the tension rippling. When MHA travels overseas to fight not only a fire but also foreign enemy combatants, the stakes are doubled. The sexual tension keeps pace with the hair-raising physical adventures the heroic couple face. Buchman's WILD FIRE is wild ride of adrenaline and love.
