Inspired by the author's fortieth birthday celebration where she committed to forty days of intentional kindness, this book shares the ripple effect that changed an entire community. In less than a year, more than 20,000 separate acts of kindness took place as others embraced the endeavour. A Case for Kindness equips you to have that same impact on the lives of your own neighbors, family, and friends. In this book, you will find forty kindness practices that easily fit the margins of your day-to-day interactions. It is a forty-day journey that will have a lasting impact on the lives of others, while enriching your own life in the process.
This book has to be one of the best books I have ever read in my lifetime. And it’s beauty is in the simplicity. Our greatest command is to love God and love our neighbors, but too often, we fail to take the initiative and be intentional. This book gives many, many ideas for how to be kind and ways to show love to others and encourages intentionality. It is thoughtful, and it reminds us that our greatest calling is to love with the love of Christ, that the compassion and kindness as fruits of the Holy Spirit will have the greatest impact in our world.
While this book is filled with plenty of inspiring stories and ideas for volunteering/showing kindness (especially for the younger folks in our lives), it felt like an extremely long listicle. I just couldn't get into it. I even like the audiobook narrator, and at about 25% I simply didn't want to listen anymore.
There are resources like this one that take 5-15 minutes to read as opposed to hours. Just Google it.
A book filled with so many cute ideas to be kind or show kindness! I love how she described the changing of her kids lives and the excitement it created to show kindness. I am excited to try more of this with my kids. We need more kindness in this world!
I found the book to be brimming with gospel-speak to an awkward degree, sufficient to alienate non-Christian readers like myself. Nonetheless, I managed to extract some heartwarming ideas on fostering kindness.
What are you seeking? Lisa Barrickman's new book will certainly help you find it. There is a reason this book has come out this year and it is clear- we all need some kindness in our lives but more importantly we need to share out gifts and talents with the world and see how the seeds of kindness spread. Lisa's book is so easy to pick up and put down whenever you have a minute in your day. She shows us how maybe even just one minute can change a life and have a ripple effect on the world. Lisa makes it easy to remember to be kind by sharing so many easy and creative ways to do this. She has resources abundantly sprinkled throughout the book and quotes to inspire you and your family going forward. Thanks Lisa for bringing your time and talents to us.
This book is a great way to find ideas for you or your family or group to help others and spread love and kindness. I really think the author does a great job showing a variety of ideas, but so many of them (almost t all) involve buying or giving money. Not every family or person has money to give away, so I do feel like she is excluding a group of people who can't throw gift cards, money for coffee, meals, triple tips, money for parking meters to others, etc..... But, overall a book that inspires me to want to do more!
This book was a life changer for me. I have always liked doing little things for people but author Lisa Barrickman really brings up great points I have never thought of. I am going to try her 40 day challenge with my office and see how it goes. So happy for all of the practical examples and instructions in the appendix. This book has challenged me to be a better person and to look for opportunities I can practice daily.
A sweet reminder of our call to love and care for ourselves, our loved ones, and complete strangers through the power of the Holy Spirit within us. Lisa also provides a plethora of ideas to begin our own practice of kindness to bless the world starting with the smallest of gestures and working your way up to big acts of love.
I finally finished this! The pattern of each chapter is a little repetitive, but the message and intent are great! I have truly incorporated more kindness into my life as I have read it. I have shared it with others and can’t wait to get more children involved with kindness!
I loved this book! It made me happy and hopeful and empowered - like I could make a difference in someone's life with the simplest act of kindness. Love the whole idea of it!
A gift from a friend, I probably would never have found this book, written by a woman who lives nearby in West Chester, PA. Wonderfully full of loving ideas, I will share it with family and friends.
I choose to read this book as one of my 2018 summer reading playlist challenge and am very glad I did. This book is very well-written and I don't mean because of "grammar." 😉 I mean in that special way that some people have the amazing gift to share through their words a journey you not read about but felt You were included in the Journey as self-discovery, short-lived, and even more Kindness for and With OTHERS was lived. Very Inspiring with many ideas to put into affect in Your Own Lives and communities. An excellent pick for any KindHeart out there or any Heart wanting to give and receive more Kindness along their path.
Reading Lisa Barrickman's "A Case for Kindness" is like inhaling a deep breath of cool fresh air after leaving a toxic environment. As a teacher of literature for many decades, I have obviously read extensively. I can honestly say that the inspiring message is delivered in an easy to read, interesting and effective manner. This read is like an entertaining formula of simple but amazing steps one can take to bring moments of joy to anyone who can use a smile. Indeed, the reader cannot help but smile too. This is a narrated program to really spread the joy of kindness and cherish the inner peace one feels from doing so. This is something needed in the world today. I wish it could be required reading. Worldwide. Humanity would benefit from the experience and smile. Congratulations to Lisa Barrickman for writing this absolutely amazing and unique book. Read it!
