It's hard to find the correct edition on GR. For anyone who wants to know, we are using the tenth edition for my social psychology class, and it is the etext version. I marvel at how I have gotten used to using etexts over the past year. I should add that it was through necessity, as Columbia College Missouri converted to using etexts for majority of their online classes.

(I've read a newer edition, not sure which though, just to keep that in mind.)

Great intro into Social Psychology! I've read it out of interest, not because I had to (okay, to be fair, the topic is related to my work) and although it took me a while to read, I really enjoyed it to the end. Like with every science book you can't take everything at face value. Not all studies mentioned and cited are well done and perfectly convincing, but all in all it gives a very good overview about the field of social psychology, its beginnings and its status quo.
The reason why I give five stars is, before all, because I truly believe that knowledge in social psychology is an absolute must and that this book does give all the necessary information in an informative and entertaining way!
Knowing about social psychology teaches us about ourselves, about how we behave, or how others might use our instinctive behavioural patterns to manipulate us into doing or believing something they want us to do or believe (commercials, political statements, etc.). But also, experiments like the Stanford Prison Experiment or Milgram are incredibly important to know if we want a chance of preventing those situations in real life. And these things happen in real life all the time and are the reason for many tragedies happening.
So I definitely recommend to read this book, because it just makes you that much more aware of the big situational influence on people's behaviour and what to do about it.

I finished my social psych course with an 8! That is of course thanks to my professor and my own studying skills, but this book didn't make it harder than it could have.

For a textbook, this was worthy of a 4 star rating. This textbook is comprehensible and even funny at times. It was a very pleasant book to study from, the page layout is very clear, with lots of margin space to take notes in. The key terms stood out and had a separate definition in the margin, which was the best because I'm so done with paging back to the glossary to look up what it means. The theme of the chapters were clear and the text actually stuck to it, which was nice.

One thing is that my professor had to disclaim that some of the studies in the book do not hold up, and they were not fixed in the 10th edition yet. Of course textbooks lag behind scientific discovery but keep in mind that not everything is foolproof if you were to read this without academic guidance.

It is a really good textbook for the students of the psychology and I really do recommend it, but just couldn't give it grade 5 because of following reasons.
There is a chapter where Lance Armstrong is shown as an example of dedication and mental strength but the problem is, there is missing a big factory in that equation, that is the use of illegal substances.
Because the book is written giving us examples of social behaviors it casts a shadow on every other example given in the book, what if they are wrong (or missing huge part) their as well.
A second major problem is their own opinions, for example when discussing problems of minorities and a majority for almost ever problem answer is a minority is oppressed by a majority, barely any mention that sometimes minorities exclude majorites from there groups.
In the end, a book that is worth its time just not everything is as it seems, but that is kinda a whole point of the psychology, do not assume easily.

This books stands out among other psychology textbooks that I have read so far. I get the feelingthat the authors have made serious attempts to make it "student friendly"; tailored towards younger students who have just left high school. The text makes attempts to joke sometimes and addresses the reader directly. There's also plenty of pictures to break up the text and the book makes use of graphical charts to summarize processes. Quite good. I'd even say that the text is written in a "compelling way." It doesn't get boring, and you want to read more. Maybe a little childish at times, but a great textbook in total.

Very clearly written and served me well as the textbook accompanying my 2nd year social psyc course. Some info was out of date and has been called into question as a result of the replication crisis but it is possible I didn’t have the very most recent edition.

Fascinating book about human behavior. Social Psychology by Elliot Aronson, Timothy D. Wilson, Robin M. is a textbook that offers detailed research of the human nature. More specifically: why we do the things that we do. Even though the date might be a bit overwhelming at times, the authors did a hell of a job of explaining such complicated subject so simply. Well deserved 5 out of 5 stars. Read full review: https://corehustle.com/social-psychol...

Had to read this for my social psychology class - my exam's coming up.
I kind of love and hate this book at the same time. Like it's really interesting at times and there are fascinating historical cases to illustrate certain theories or phenomenons. So there's definitely a link to real life and that's obviously amazing. It's even emotional at times (I don't even get how a study book can be emotional other than it depressing you cause it's so much you need to study - yet somehow it is). But then it's so annoying and ridiculous at times with all these fake examples. And I mean ~so annoying~.

3 ⭐️ the only reason it gets more than two stars is because I did find learning about social psychology very interesting. However, I wasn’t necessarily the biggest fan of the layout of this text. It felt like they were trying to group information too much when they clearly could’ve added more subheadings and organize the information better. I did really enjoy that the examples for different theories and concepts were modern references, whether to pop culture or simply up to date with today’s world.

I read this book over the course of a semester for my Social Psychology class and I felt that it was quite informative and added a lot to my learning experience. Over all, what I learned from this class and this book will stay with me long after my final exams are over and I know I'll use this new knowledge when approaching many different situations in my everyday life.

Read this book cover-to-cover as part of my social psych class. It's an accessible volume and exactly what is is designed to be, a cursory overview of a topic that has many, many diverse lines of inquiry. You'll need to do a whole LOT MORE reading, research, thinking, experimenting, etc. to feel totally grounded in the topic but this is a good starting point.

Probably the best textbook I've read in a while. Written in a way that is easy to follow, very clear and logical structure, plenty of examples, a few jokes here and there, there's a little quiz at the end of each chapter as well as a good summary which was helpful when you need to review quickly.
Genuinely enjoyed reading it! Would recommend to anyone who is studying Social Psychology.

Maybe I just don't get on well with social psychology books? I read one last year (Meyers) and this one was not much better. This one reminded me of my cyberpsychology class's social section than the other book.

Hands down, this was the most useful textbook in my many years of college. I have used it in every subsequent professional role. It is exemplary in terms of its ability to engage the reader and make meaningful depth simple and consumable. I wish I had a copy for each of my kids.
