Abby Renshaw #1

Ghost of Bliss Bayou

Rate this book
For sixteen-year old Abigail Renshaw, the terrifying nightmares are not the worst part. When apparitions start leaking out of the nightmares into her waking life—Well, that's a problem.

But Abby's dealt with hallucinations before, and she's nothing if not resilient. Following clues from the nightmares, she convinces her mother to let her visit Harmony Springs, the small town in Florida where Abby was born, and where her grandmother still lives.

There, Abby finds unexpected help from new friends: a compulsive teenage blogger named Molly Quick, and Molly's older brother Ray-Ray (a guy Abby really starts to like). The not-so-good news? Abby's apparitions might be real after all. And one of them wants to kill her.

I was first drawn to read this by the title; I thought oh good a spooky paranormal ghost story. But I was wrong, it is much more than just a paranormal spooky story. It does have some thrills and apparitions, but it is a coming of age story about a young girl a senior in high school Abigail (Abby) Renshaw coming to know herself, deal with her world, and find out what she wants in life. The story begins with this young girl having nightmare visions of ghosts and non-descript images in her bedroom, and when she decides to go visit her grandmother in Harmony Springs FL they tell her they will see her down there. What a creepy beginning. But as the story continues, we the readers along with Abby learn a lot more what is really going on and has been going on for decades in Bliss Bayou. One of my favorite passages is where Abby meets and talks with Kevin, a retired anthropology professor who explains that in our culture: "Science has brought tremendous benefits and power. But I've studied other cultures- so-called primitive cultures- and I can tell you that their magic is also valid. And magic brings those people power and benefits too, ones we've lost....Well,take you for example, around age twelve you started to manifest the talent of a shaman, and it was treated with drugs and therapy to suppress your talent. In another culture, your gift would have been recognized. You would have been trained to cultivate your talent and use it for the good of the community. That would have proved a benefit to you and to others." What Kevin says is true, and Abby learns so did I, it opened my eyes to see things from an entirely new perspective. I really enjoyed this book, and recommend it to the reading community. And I look forward to reading more from Massa!

This is a great YA paranormal/dark fantasy novel about a sixteen year old girl and her "hallucinations".

Turns out, the ghostly figures she sees are much more than simple hallucinations. When she decides to go to a small Florida town to stay with her grandmother for a few weeks, she's introduced to magic, spells, and an evil presence which wants to possess her.

This novel does a fantastic job at setting up the characters and situation while keeping the creepy stuff going on at the forefront of the narrative. There's a lot of confusion for our protagonist at first because she can't decide what's real or not. But as the story progresses we're going to see an evil side to this town with a dark spirit hell bent on coming into our world.

While there's certainly death and frightening situations here, it's not overly gory or bloody. Younger readers will absolutely love these characters and story, yet adults will also get a nice creepy kick as well.

If you like ghostly tales or dark fantasy I highly recommend this novel.

Wow! I couldn't put this book down. I'm usually pretty intrigued by ghost stories and hauntings but this novel was everything you could ask for in a paranormal book and then some. Part coming of age/young adult, part ghost story, part haunting and old history, and part suspense thriller; this little gem of a story will suck you in from the moment you start reading.

Abby is not your typical teenage girl. She's struggling with issues like paranoia, nightmares, hallucinations, fear, and uncertainty along with all of the usual teenage angst that plagues this age range. Having said that, she is far from normal and doesn't fit the mold which results in a lot of curiosity, self-doubt, and soul searching moments. This is part of her charm. Abby is far from perfect but it's all those little things that add up and make her an interesting and deep character. Throughout the course of the book she's constantly tested. Her growth from beginning to end is believable and I love that although she has a romantic interest, this book is focused on her story and not on teen romance. Well done to the author.

Secondary characters like her Granma, Molly, Ray-Ray, Violet, and more are crafted with care and add to the story line. The connections to Abby strengthen her journey and it's because of these relationships that she is able to confront true evil in the end. A wonderful story with lots of rich detail, believable and fun characters, and a slow intense build that keeps you turning the pages. The magical aspects were unique and interesting, unlike anything I've read before. I was fascinated by the circle and it's rituals, significance, and impact on Abby's life. Definitely a fun read.

Highly recommended. 5 enthusiastic stars!

5/5 Stars

The Ghosts of Bliss Bayou is a paranormal fantasy about a girl who learns to use magic, while saving her grandmother's town from corrupt forces that are trying do destroy it. Abby has to overcome significant difficulties to defeat her enemies, including internal demons (fears, anxiety, etc), and yet remain focussed on the bigger picture (choosing universities, environmental issues and family obligations). Even though I found her progress a little too fast (I'm not fond of “special” characters or “chosen ones”), she is a likeable and complex character.

The book is a quick read and an exciting adventure. It seems a little rushed at times, especially Abby's advancement once she starts her training. Otherwise, it is richly detailed and deals with complex themes (growing up, environmental problems, urban development, etc). I liked the strong cast of female characters, and how the young people worked together to solve their problems.

Summary: Recommended to everyone, especially teens, who like fantasy and mysteries.

When Abby has nightmares about drowning and sees a shadowy man everywhere she looks, she thinks she's going crazy again. Drawn to her grandmother's house in a tiny town in Florida, she hopes to find the answers she's looking for. She soon finds herself mixed up in magical events, where she is the key to fighting the evil entity that is plaguing the town. Even though she has doubts about her abilities, she is determined to save those she loves.
You'll come to love the characters, such as Abby's granma and Molly, who quickly becomes her best friend. Light-hearted in places, tense and scary in others, full of ghosts and legends, spells and secrets, the reader becomes gripped by this YA paranormal fantasy that will keep you enthralled to the end.

I felt completely out of my comfort zone when starting this book, I rarely decide to read a Young Adult fantasy novel. It only took me a few pages to get lost in the story, finding myself at ease with the writing style and the lovable characters. From start to finish, the story was easy to follow and a joy to read.

The story itself is a mix of magical beauty, which is explained perfectly and an element of realistic mystery. Without being far-fetched with the element of magic, Jack Massa has written a unique story that gripped me from the very beginning until the very end.

Abigail has terrible nightmares of drowning. When she goes to stay with her Gran in Harmony Springs she discovers the Renshaw curse and things go from bad to worse. A lovely story that captivated me from page one to the fantastic ending. Filled with magic, fantasy, adventure, mystery, romance and spiritualism. Excellent and strong characters that I felt drawn to and loved reading about them. Excellent descriptions that painted a picture with words. Highly recommend to fans of the above. I was given this book for free and asked to review it. I give my honest review. This was a light, easy read. Fast-paced and loaded with action; never a dull moment. I would have liked for the book to slow down here and there and give the characters time to grow, and the reader time to connect with them. All-in-all I am impressed with the book and enjoyed reading it. It was fun, full of adventure, some interesting twists and I ADORED the ending!

Ghosts of Bliss Bayou – Accurately named teen novel for those who like the paranormal. Abby Renshaw struggles with her mental health. Her nightmares have encroached upon her waking life. Is she a freak of nature, or is her therapist, Dr. Mark right? Can she face her demons and find peace or are the ghosts of Bliss Bayou real?

Abby is a wonderful heroine, who is dealing with a whole lot for a girl her age. I liked the realness of her character that was created by giving her quirks and self-doubt. She handles some pretty frightening things with more bravery than I would have. She has a beautiful character arc and relationships with several several secondary characters ranging from family and friends to romantic interests. There were a lot of layers as she looked for answers about her 'hallucinations' and how they might related to her history. Could they be related to the developers? Could they be related to magic? Are they ghosts? You'll have to read to find out. Most of the story takes place in Florida, where I grew up and it was cool that I recognized several of the places mentioned. I really was surprised by the depth of this YA tale. It's told in a fast paced, engaging style that will hold your attention from start to finish.

For me, the best kind of book is one that draws me in and wraps me up with wonder, keeps me turning the pages, and finally, leaves me wholly satisfied with the ending. This is exactly one of those stories. First and foremost, I love that an environmental aspect was woven into the plot, along with ghosts, ghouls, and magic. Second, I appreciate a YA story that doesn't involve and revolve around 'insta-love'. The protagonist, Abby has a mystery to solve and she's all about taking care of business. I loved everything about this story - it's well written with a unique plot. A big thumbs up for anyone that enjoys YA spookiness. *I borrowed this book via Kindle Unlimited*

For Abigail Renshaw, the nightmares begin when she’s 12 years old. Coupled with the voices in her head as well as the vivid hallucinations, it isn’t long before she has a breakdown. With the help of medication and therapy, Abigail begins to think that the hallucinations are a thing of the past. But were they hallucinations?

Events take a frightening turn for the now 16 year old Abigail, when apparitions from her nightmares begin to seep out into her waking life. One particular malicious ghost, whom Abby refers to as Ghost Woman, seems hellbent on harming her. Following the clues from her nightmares, Abby convinces her mother to allow her to visit her grandmother in Harmony Springs, Florida. The vindictive Ghost Woman of her dreams ominously tells Abby that they will meet again at the Springs.

Upon her arrival in Bliss Bayou, Abby’s visions intensify. The Ghost Woman, true to her word, has followed her. While jogging, Abby almost drowns at the hands of the malevolent Shadow Man, a dark entity who seems to be stalking her. One ghost, however, is attempting to reach out and help Abby. Who is she?

With the help of her new friend, Molly Quick, Abby discovers that the town’s Founders, dating back from 1882, were in fact spiritualists who dabbled in the occult. An ancestor of Abby’s by the name of Annie Renshaw and her two friends conjured a powerful spirit who turns out to be none other than Shadow Man. Annie supposedly went insane and put a curse on her descendants before drowning herself in Bliss Springs. But is that what really happened?

When Abby finally confides in her grandma about her dreams as well as her near drowning experience, she learns that her psychic visions are real and that her ancestors have been plagued by a curse for over a century. The only way for her to combat the spirits intent on harming her is to become an initiate of the Circle of Harmony in which her Grandmother seems to be one of three members along with Violet and Kevin. Abby finally learns the answers to the questions she has been seeking. She’s a psychic with the gifts of a natural shaman that allow her to see visions, walk in other worlds and communicate with spirits. Realising that she has a big role to play in combating the forces that are threatening their town, Abby must try to figure out a way to stop the Shadow Man and protect the town as well as those she loves. But how?

This book was my first introduction to the author and did not disappoint. I found it engaging, fast paced with some genuinely creepy moments at times. The plot was intriguing, part ghost story and part coming of age. The strength of the book rests in the character development and the world of history steeped in magic that the author has managed to create rather convincingly I might add.

Abby starts off as a frightened, insecure girl who is out of her depth. By the end of the book, however, she is ready to face the evil head on at the risk to her own life if necessary. Abby’s friendship with the irrepressible Molly as well her budding friendship with the charming Ray Ray was entertaining to read. However, it was Abby’s interactions with the tragic Annie Renshaw that left a lasting impression on me. There were some wonderful poignant moments between her and Abby particularly towards the end that left a lump in my throat.

I seldom read a book where the ending leaves me feeling one hundred percent satisfied so I commend the author for writing it the way he did. I’m looking forward to seeing what else he has in store for Abby and her friends.

A captivating story about a young teenage girl who is pestered by the paranormal and has to learn how to cultivate her skills. Jack Massa presents us with not just another paranormal ghost story, but with a coming of age young adult novel with depth and excellent character development.

The Story

Abigail Renshaw is a sixteen year old when her mother remarries and wants to travel Europe for her honeymoon trip. Left with a choice, Abby decides to stay with her grandmother in Florida. An excellent opportunity, for she has been having nightmares for a long while now, and all nightmares point towards her grandmother's town.

Talents

Haunted by nightmares, hallucinations and other strange visions, Abby has been struggling with her mental health, as is explained at the beginning of the book. She has been visiting a therapist for a while and struggles with the sightings she experiences. After all, there isn't anyone who will listen to her and believe her. She has to deal with all this hardship alone.

Abby is already at an age when life is difficult and boys and girls explore their identity. Guided by hormones and often powerful emotions, they feel as if they are all alone - because who could possibly understand their experiences and feelings? I feared for a moment, at the start of the tale, that this would be a very loaded story. Abby suffers from anxiety, nightmares, hallucinations, is unpopular, people don't seem to understand her, she can't talk about her experiences to her mother, it is all a clutter of heavy disappointing experiences and depressing emotions. But fortunately, that is just the background Jack sketches in a few pages right at the start of the tale, and the story quickly deviates from the focus on Abby's unhappiness and shifts towards her talents.

The town her grandmother lives in seems to be in trouble, and in the pages to come, Jack dives deeper into the characters, their motivation and their interaction, making the story realistic without losing the pace. Instead of a simpel paranormal tale, the story drifts towards a proper coming of age tale with supernatural elements. Abby has to discover that her curses might actually be gifts. Her experiences cause for her self-doubt to wane and she discovers who she is along the way.

Writing

Jack keeps up a nice swift pace, not lingering too long on details but not leaving them out either. There are ghosts, legends and magic, but at the same time the story does not lose 'credibility'. In other words, it feels as if the story could take place in our world, and it is therefore easier to identify with the main character. One of the reasons it has a realistic enough feel to it are the relationships described: the interaction between the main character and family and friends. Abby interacts with people of all ages and in a natural way, not forcibly written. Jack has managed to present us a story that is a perfect example of a young adult tale, and any YA lover would enjoy.

-I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ghosts of Bliss Bayou, by Jack Massa, is a southern gothic novel about knowing where you belong, no matter how horrific the past.

After a particularly disturbing nightmare, Abby Renshaw decides to see her grandmother, who lives in Harmony Springs. When she first arrives, her grandmother’s neighbors are attacked by a monstrous figure that can only be described as “The Devil.” As Abby learns more about the paranormal events surrounding the town, she uncovers a family legacy that threatens to destroy her. But even so, she must use these secrets to defend herself against a dark entity, one that threatens to destroy everything she loves.

I liked the relationship between Abby, her grandmother, and Violet. Her grandmother and Violet were like mentors to Abby, trying to show her the wonders of their world, as well as the dangers. I especially liked the passion Violet displays for magic. Still, despite this, there was also a deep-seated tragedy nestled beneath the surface. Annie Renshaw, after all, was just one of the victims behind the careless use of magic. But though history threatened to repeat itself, Abby still managed to pull through with the help of her family, showing the timeless values that can slay even the darkest of evils.

As you may or may not know, I am completely in love with gothic novels. The dark, decadent settings of the town, as well as the ghosts and even the “development project”, illustrate the enchanting realism that’s so prominent in its fall from grace. To be honest, it was like reading through a forgotten fairytale, and how, despite trying to fight for justice, the characters can end up falling on the wrong side of morality, and thus distorting the true realities of the world.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The coherent bonds of the characters, as well as the wonderful themes in the book, meticulously illustrate the beauty of the demented Gothic genre. Massa weaves a romantic tale about finding your place in the world, and learning just how far people will go to save their family. Thus, I would give this book a rating of a 4.0 out of 5 stars, and would recommend it to those who enjoy Tennessee Williams, and the southern gothic genre in general.

Life for seventeen-year-old Abby Renshaw has not been easy. Her father died when she was young, her mom moved her from Florida to New Jersey away from her Granma, and she started having vivid dreams and visions. Of course she was treated by a psychiatrist for those in New Jersey, but they have started to return only now Abby feels compelled to return to Florida to visit her Granma on Bliss Bayou. While there Abby has more visions, only this time she learns more about her family history and the history of Bliss Bayou as a magical place, and is introduced to Violet who practices magic and is able to help Abby understand the visions and not run from them. Ghosts of Bliss Bayou by author Jack Massa tells the story of the Renshaw family and the practice of practical magic that existed in the area. The truth of the family history has been buried in lies by those greedy for power, and it becomes Abby's job to uncover the truth and set things right.

Author Jack Massa has created a wonderful little world that is historic and steeped in tradition and magic, but not your wand waving kind of magic, the more practical magic of a naturalist, listening to the elements of the world and being in tune with them. Ghosts of Bliss Bayou falls into the paranormal genre for the appearance of a number of ghosts who help lead Abby to the truth, as well as the use of the practical magic. It is just as much a coming of age story as Abby finds her way in the world and what she wants to do and who she really is. This is a well written and engaging book that is great for young adults, teens and adults alike. Although at times the visions get a bit confusing, it you just press on reading, it all becomes clear. This is a very clean book, no language or sex, so I recommend it for any reader.

Ghosts mixing in a detective story but not the way you expect

I loved this book! The main plot is about Abby finding the reason behind her often visions and sightings of ghosts, and it comes with a secondary plot which is very well inspired from a contemporary issue of our world, yes, the real world! While the secondary plot gives heaviness to the story, the main one kept me captivated. The writing style kept me engaged in the story, so not even for a moment did I find it boring. No superfluous, tangled descriptions, heavy world-building or complicated sentences.

Another good thing about this book is that, although it's mostly about ghosts, you won't stumble upon religious elements, making it a perfect read for anyone, regardless of their religion. What I found to be the best part of it it's the strong plot which surprised me with an unexpected twist (don't try to guess it because you definitely won't be able to predict it. It took me by surprise and made me love this book!).

It does have some romance but it's not at all centered on it. Romance comes as that much-needed spice which makes a story feel complete and also fit to all ages.

It's the first book I read that is written from first POV using the present tense from beginning to end. And it wasn't like some online opinions were saying. It wasn't annoying; it had that feel-with-the-character effect.

The only spoiler I can give is that the last chapters are full of suspense and the ending is 100% satisfactory, at least that's how it was for me. I give five stars wholeheartedly and recommend it to teenagers and people in their early twenties, as it's a very entertaining story!

I offered to review this audiobook because I am such an an avid reader but also almost exclusively audio due to my schedule. Because of this, and the fact that a bad narrator can destroy a great series, I can be very critical of narrators. Especially when books have a single narrator required to speak with different voices for multiple characters. Most cannot do it without having some errors where they use the wrong 'voice' for the wrong character. Alicia Foreman does a great job in narrating this book! It was a very enjoyable listen and I didn't have any issues distinguishing between characters.

As to the story, I am not one to give a lot of specific story details since I feel you should read the story for that, and Ghosts of Bliss Bayou will not disappoint! While this book can stand alone and doesn't end with a cliffhanger, I am very excited to know that I can continue the series to see what happens next in this seemingly sleepy town, which isn't really so sleepy after all. This is book 1 in a paranormal mystery series and I for one am hooked. The book includes interesting characters, lots of twists and turns in the main story, and several good underlying stories within that will make you want to keep listening until the story is over.

I liked this book right from the start. I love a good ghost story and this one was great! I read the first half in 3 days and the last half in one sitting, I just couldn't stop!

Very good character development. I loved Abby. She was a very brave and tough young lady. If I kept having nightmares, having hallucinations, and seeing ghosts - I think I would be freaking out. But she held it together. Not only that but she did some research as to why this was happening to her. What she finds is even more incredible. Abby is thrown into a world of ghosts, magic, curses, and secrets involving her own family.

This is a well crafted story with a lot of action to keep your interest (a lot of ghost and magic action) and enough heartfelt moments to keep it real. Abby is a young heroine with heart and spunk. You are guaranteed to fall in love with her.

Great book for teens and adults. I am wondering what this author has in store for us next. I'm sold!

I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from the author - Thank You!

Abbie Renshaw has suffered nightmares for years, but lately, those nightmares have turned to night terrors and even some of the visions are haunting her in the daytime. Thinking that the nightmares are a side effect of her anxiety that she suffers, it is not until she pays her grandmother a visit in a town called Harmony Springs in Florida that she learns the visions are really part of a curse. It is only through learning a series of secret magic rituals that Abbie might discover how to lift the curse.

The story was very new agey and I found it hard to stay interested in the beginning. As The Ghosts of Bliss Bayou progressed, it became a bit more interesting and there was some suspense toward the end. This is not really a horror novel, more a coming of age story that involves magic and the occult.

This book really took me back to the days when I read L.J. Smith's "The Secret Circle" and even seemed a bit like a lighter Charlaine Harris story. I'm probably just a little too old for the writing style aimed at a younger audience, but I did enjoy this supernatural coming-of-age tale. If I was in high school, this would definitely be a favorite.

My only complaint would be the audiobook narrator. Overall, her voice was perfect for the story, but at times she narrated like an uninterested student who was asked to read aloud in class. Very flat and speaking so fast that I had to check that I hadn't turned the speed up. She was excellent when it came to giving characters their own voice and accent. Those parts were always engaging.

This paranormal book is a very interesting read.It follows Abigail and how her nightmares and waking life are quite disturbing to her. As she learns to use her gift. This story has some very good details within it and goes as at a good pace. It goes at a fast-ish pace, but you can still get to know what is going on, which I enjoyed. I don't mind a fast pace book long as I know what is going on.

Narrator reads in a nice voice and helps give voice to each character. She does seem to read a bit fast in certain areas which makes it harder to follow those sections in the book.

All in all it was a good book to read, just a bit rushed for those who don't enjoy it. Though I would say to give it a chance anyways cause it still gives lots of info.

Positively mesmerizing!

This book is such a delightful read. As a mature reader, I do not tend to gravitate towards YA stories as a rule but this particular tale is so much more than a YA coming-of-age paranormal mystery. Yes, the main character Abigail Renshaw is only 16 years old and does exhibit both the insecurities and the brashness that comes with youth, but she is also surprisingly complex and immediately relatable and likeable. She is at that wondrous time in her life when the era of high school is coming to a close and the future holds so many possibilities. She takes the opportunity to visit her grandmother in Florida while her mother and stepfather go on a European honeymoon trip and what awaits her there changes the course of her life in ways she could not have imagined. This story has at its heart an intriguing small town mystery centered around the conflict between some of the local citizenry determined to preserve the historical integrity of their community and the avarice of a group of land developers hoping to score a quick fortune. As title suggests, some of the players in this war of wills are, in fact, residents of the town which have long since passed. What unfolds is a truly mesmerizing tale full of unexpected surprises that held my attention from the first page to the last. A beautifully described locale full of rich history, engaging characters, and a fast-paced highly imaginative storyline combine to make this story utterly captivating and I would happily recommend it to readers of all ages.

I was gifted a copy of this book, for which I thank the author, but I am sharing my honest and unbiased review on a completely voluntary basis.

GRIPPING SUPERNATURAL EXPERIENCE
As a threatening thunderstorm was approaching, I found a great book to read – this one!

The ominous undercurrent in GHOST OF BLISS BAYOU entails a battle between good and evil where supernatural beings (including goddesses, gods, and ghosts) work through and with human beings (including good and not-so-good people, real magicians, and cops).

This incredible book unexpectedly elicited tender memories for me. After milking her small herd of Jersey cows, my grandma and I would visit on her porch swing. I remember one evening, while we were softly swinging, Grandma telling me that she lost the love of her life (my grandpa) when my dad was nine years old. She told me how Grandpa had died within days after contracting pneumonia - from inhaling smoke rescuing a neighbor’s chickens from a burning chicken coop.

I certainly did appreciate, and want to share, what Jack wrote on page 232, “But remember this: surrender does not mean abandoning the struggle against evil. To oppose evil and bring good into the world is always our duty. What surrender does mean is making peace with the outcome of your struggle, whatever it be, peace with the knowledge that you may fail.”

I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series!

The story:
Abby Renshaw is not a normal seventeen-year-old girl. She suffers from hallucinations wherein she sees ghosts, a malady she attributes to the “Renshaw curse”, a curse that caused her father to take his own life. When her mother secures a high-paying job in London, Abby decides to visit her paternal grandmother in the sleepy town of Harmony Springs, Florida. There, she discovers so much more about her ancestors, the “curse”, and herself, as she is forced to confront a dark, spectral being – which she dubs Shadow Man – that has designs on her and those she loves.

I really enjoyed this book.

The main character, Abbey, is haunted by nightmares that cause her go back to her ancestral home. She thinks she is losing her mind and is seeing hallucinations of monsters. Once she is back, the visions start to get worse. Abbey gains friends and allies that help her realise that she is not crazy and has been chosen to stop the evil that has been plauging her family line for generations.

The author has done a great job with the world building and character development. The story was face paced and you didn't really get to stop and smell the roses with the characters but that was okay.
I read this in a day :D Very easy to read.

I would recommend it.

It’s been a long time since I read a ghost story that captivated me from the start, but this book had it all: ghosts, magic, and a snarky main character. When Abby starts to have visions, she has the feeling the bayou by her granma’s place is important. Seizing on opportunity, she goes to visit and finds out that she’s right. Something is weird in the small town, something linked to the bayou and Abby is the key to fixing it all.

I loved just about every aspect of this book. The characters were three-dimensional, the setting was nicely described, and the story was written in a way that it had no dull moments. I will definitely continue reading the series to see what other adventures are in store for Abby.

It's all there...Ghosts, intrigue, paranoia, paranormal, magic...even a little murder and a dash of comic relief Very well written, and an easy read. Obviously, I don't have to say it, but I will...I LOVED this book! The character development was awesome. The plot had a few twists, but none that were "out of left field." It all made perfect sense. I don't know which character I liked the most, but I DO know who I ended up hating. Unfortunately, I can't say who that is, because it may give away an important part of the plot. So, I guess you're going to have to read it for yourself, which I wholeheartedly recommend that you do! Bravo, Mr. Massa!

It’s fair to say I ate this book up like a chocolate cake and trust me I love cake. It had all the right ingredients. I love how effortlessly the story flowed from the beginning to the end and how I wanted to keep reading. There’s a bit of time stopping magic in the story and for a moment, it seemed time stood still as I devoured the pages.
Just a note, this story contains quite a lot of Tarot card reading. The only thing I felt would have improved the story even more was a little more description of the characters appearance and surroundings, just to give us that physical attachment readers enjoy.
A great story for YA readers and one I thoroughly enjoyed!
