Rachel is ordinary. Average. Utterly unremarkable ... until her best friend shoots her on her 16th birthday and a stranger brings her from death’s doorstep with an infusion of his own DNA.

Then everything gets weird.

She heals impossibly fast. She sees places and creatures that couldn’t exist. She senses the thoughts and emotions of others. When she seeks an explanation from her new friend, Tyler, he persuades her that she has been chosen to lead him and three other DNA-infused teens in protecting the world.

Defending humanity against pitiless, inter-dimensional creatures bent on invading the world and destroying its inhabitants is a daunting task. Can Rachel learn to trust her team and believe in herself? Can she draw on the strength of the one who saved her?

Infusion is one of these great books that you can't put down. For me it was like come on Rachel remember what exactly happened that night you were shot. While in the hospital she starts having what she thought we're dreams but are another reality. Everyone keeps asking her why her best friend would shoot her?

But then Rachel starts noticing a difference in her, she senses what people are feeling when she touches them. Brushing it off as a I already know people feel sad about what has happened.
But then she goes to school and meets Tyler a guy everyone says is weird.
Rachel wants to know why he's even talking with her.
Tyler then starts asking her questions about the night she was shot and says are you already healing quicker then normal? That's when Tyler introduces her to other things, and others like them.
This book has some twist and you find yourself thinking wow I want more.
A very quick read as well so you are for sure thinking I need book # 2 please.

Infusion was a great, quick read- different then anything else I had read before. Rachel was changed, into something other on her birthday. She not only had to figure out WHY who she thought was her friend, shot her, but why she was changed as well. And if she could trust Tyler, who is convinced she could save the world leading four other teens against an army. I enjoyed this book devouring it, wanting to know how Rachel was going to react, and how was going to handle such an impossible task thrown her way!

I give this 4⭐ out of 5 ⭐. It was an awesome read. I sometimes had problems with the characters name (my mom is also named Rachel, so sometimes my mom came to mind, haha), and I was kind of hoping for a little more of a relationship to transpire, but understand why it didn’t.

Except
If I’d known I was going to die on my sixteenth birthday, I probably would’ve spent a little time on my makeup that morning. As it was, I lay in the field, cold, and all I could think was that I hadn’t even bothered to run a brush through my hair before I left. I mean, at the very least, I could’ve worn earrings. It started to rain, softly at first, and I felt my teeth chattering. No, not felt. Heard. I heard something else, too. Jared sobbing. Loudly. It was funny—I’d known him all my life, and I’d never heard him cry before. Would he be crying so desperately if he hadn’t been the one who shot me?
My Review I really thought the book was very strange but it was a fun and interesting book. Rachel I thought was an interesting character and what a change of life she had after she was shot by her friend. I also enjoyed her new friend Tyler and thought he was very interesting as well. I thought they were cute together. I really thought it's interesting how Rachel got the powers and why they were needed. The bad things that Tyler, Rachel, and company had to fight where very interesting. There are betrayals that take place in the book. I loved that the book didn't end in a cliffhanger but leaves room for other books to come. I asked to take part in the book tour and my opinions are my own. I would definitely recommend this book and I would read more book's by this author. Rachel was out watching the stars with her best friend Jared when the next thing she knows she has been shot and knows she is dying. When a strange man appears and puts his hand on her, she is certain that she was struck by lightening and passes out. Next thing she knows she is in the hospital with gaps in her memory as to what really happened that night. But something is not right, Rachel appears to be healing faster than expected and she is having strange visions she doesn't understand. Rachel has no idea what is going on and pretending everything is normal does not seem to be an option.

Is it bad to say that this was like a modern, better acted, more engaging version of the Power Rangers? When I got the end of the book, that was the first thought that I had about the book. There story brought a bunch of mismatched kids who had nothing in common together, there were strange new super powers, awesome dangerous gadgets, a mysterious man who may or may not be an alien, scary monster like creatures who want to destroy mankind and another dimension (world?) that can be traveled to through portals. Umm, yes please! This was nothing like I anticipated when I first started reading and I mean that in a good way. Alyssa was able to create engaging characters, an interesting plot and the best kind of pacing that kept the reader engaged right until the last word.

Rachel is the main character, who like the reader has zero idea as to what is going on, but slowly the story starts to come together as she is given pieces to the strange she now lives right along with the reader. We get to figure out the plot and craziness right along with Rachel. Can I just say how impressive I found her to be with how mellow she was with her worldly changes, she just rolled with it. Hmm, new healing powers and visions? Yep, ok. Another dimension with evil monsters? sure, no biggie. Must be Tuesday! Her no-nonsense approach to life made the decision for her to be leader perfect. For the side characters, the other teens (or pre-teen!) who made up her super-team were unique and distinct voices, making them mesh into a solid unit without taking away from the strength of character that was Rachel.

I love that this is a standalone story in a world of series. The entire story was able to be wrapped up in a single book with no cliff hangers and I appreciate that completely. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good series, but it was nice that this is a complete story unto itself. This was a fun fast adventure that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an engaging supernatural adventure regardless of age. This was my first book by Alyssa and it won't be my last.

I received this title in return for my honest review. Visit my blog at https://smadasbooksmack.blogspot.com/ for more book review.
