Things in The Sisters are heating up, and Madison Reynolds is in the hot seat. When a local woman dies in a most unconventional way, In a Pinch takes on the quirky case and once again, Maddy finds herself in the middle of a would-be murder investigation. Even with the help of her grandmother and best friend Genny, this case may be too hot to handle. As summer scorches its way across Texas, drama as thick as the August humidity rolls through the twin towns of Juliet and Naomi. Granny Bert reveals a secret that rocks Maddy’s foundation. A celebrity designer joins the renovation crew at the Big House, bringing twice the chaos and twice the fans. Madison’s estranged mother-in-law convinces the twins to spend the summer with her in Dallas. As if all of that isn’t enough to wreak havoc in Madison’s life, Barry Redmond continues to propagate his ridiculous grudge against her. Things really start smoking when Cutter’s grandfather, rodeo legend Sticker Pierce, returns to The Sisters and tries to rekindle a romance with old flame Belle, aka Granny Bert. And Maddy’s latest brush with death prompts Brash to finally make his move. With renovations almost complete and the love of a good man behind her, Maddy is ready to tell the world: I’m home again, and starting over.
Best-selling indie and hybrid author Becki Willis loves crafting stories with believable characters in believable situations. Many of her stories stem from her own personal experiences. (No worries; she's never actually murdered anyone).
When she’s not plotting danger and adventure for her imaginary friends, Becki enjoys reading, spending time with her family, unraveling a good mystery (real or imagined), dark chocolate, and a good cup of coffee.
A professed history geek, Becki often weaves pieces of the past into her novels. Family is a central theme in her stories and in her life. She and her husband enjoy traveling but believe coming home to their Texas ranch is the best part of any trip.
Becki has won numerous awards—including two Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Awards, InD’Tale’s coveted RONE, and been named Finalist for two Claymore Awards—but feels the real compliments come from her readers. Drop in for an e-visit anytime at beckiwillis.ccp@gmail.com, or www.beckiwillis.com.
In Home Again, Becki Willis once again brings us an outstanding view of small town Texas with a side order of murder and reality television. I was expected the focus to continue to be on the renovation of the Big House but the work and the show were mostly in the background. However, I was not the least bit disappointed in this book; in fact, I loved it. Maddy continues to wear two hat as she works reorganizing a lawyer's office after the death of his secretary and then takes on a case to prove that the woman did not drink herself to death. Maddy's relationship with Brash continues quite happily and the whole town is watching Gen and Cutter to see if those two will ever admit there is something special between them. While one part of the mystery seems pretty obvious, most of it is quite complex. I sure didn't figure it all out.
i loved the story, i have read all of the books and enjoyed them. i was given an advance copy but this is an honest review of the book. if you have read any others you have to read this one. Cutter's grandfather comes to town and you get to meet some of Cutter's other family members. Maddy gets in more trouble but of course Brash is right there to help. Grandma Bert sees her first love and Genny helps Maddy and needs to be rescued also. if you love romance stories with a little mystery and some laughs you have to read the book. looking forward to the next story
This 4th book in the series keeps you on the edge of your seat with the suspenseful action. The murder being investigated was done in a new and unusual way. And the threats to Maddie and her family, friends, and helpers were truly scary. The murderer was not the one I expected. Can't wait to start #5.
Home Again: Starting Over is the fourth book in The Sisters Texas Series, and it continues the overall story starring Madison (Maddy) Reynolds in her hometown of Juliet, Texas, sister city to Naomi, Texas, which is right across the railroad tracks. You won't be disappointed if you decide to grab the first three books in the series before diving into book 4. These books could technically stand alone, but you will definitely want to get acquainted with all the characters and their backstories and the unique history of these sister cities. The author has definitely put a lot of thought and work into building this little Texas world, rife with budding romances, rivalries, new beginnings, ongoing feuds, an old mansion full of secrets, and a bit of murder and mayhem to keep things interesting.
In this fourth book, Home Again: Starting Over, destructive fires are on the agenda, but that isn't all that is heating up and causing confusion in these two cities. Oh no, some sweet romances are shifting into high gear, and it's about time, too. The main characters are fully developed and enjoyable, with a lot of hilarity coming from Maddy's Granny Bert, a lot of shouting matches between a few minor characters, and a whole lot of family dynamics between Maddy and her twins, Bethani and Blake.
Despite the title, Book 4 does not focus too much on the reality show "Home Again: Starting Over" that dominates Book 3; however, the reconstruction crew is still hard at work turning the century-old Big House into a livable oasis for Maddy and her teenage twins, and the cameras are still rolling for the show's weekly episodes. But if you pay attention, the book's title is quite appropriate in terms of other aspects of the overall story.
Becki Willis certainly knows how to make the reader feel right at home in The Sisters and shows brilliant talent for creating such a unique setting and populating it with so many quirky characters. The descriptions of the food at Genesis (Genny) Baker's restaurant will have you wishing you could pop in and settle into a booth with an apple turnover or maybe a plate of her signature Gennydoodle cookies and a large glass of sweet tea. Pure Texas bliss, right there! Especially if Cutter Montgomery happens to be there too, with all his Texas charm.
But back to the cozy mystery at hand. While not as fast-paced and intricate as the first three books, Home Again: Starting Over has no shortage of mysterious happenings for Maddy to investigate and unravel as she continues her self-employment at In a Pinch Professional Services. Now she is trying to figure out the connection between several fires and some shady insurance deals, and she is investigating the baffling and truly undignified death of poor Gloria Jeffers. As the fires continue, tempers flare, and the overall mystery refuses to unravel, Maddy, Granny Bert, and Genny land in some dangerous situations.
While the murder mystery blazes on, the blossoming romantic relationships are stealing the show. Maddy and Brash are finally becoming bold enough to hold hands in public, and Genny and Cutter are still hemming and hawing around, which makes their relationship slow yet oh so sweet. But it is a third relationship that springs up later in the book that will steal your breath and your heart. I sure hope there will be more to come with this prickly romance because it is quite enchanting.
Becki Willis shows her expertise in creating characters that you actually want to meet and hang out with at a fish fry along a Texas river, gazing at the stars and toasting the future.
Chicken Scratch #1 - This is my first book by this author and I was greatly surprised at how well written, well thought out and laced with humor and intrigue; this little gem is packed. The area is near and dear to my heart since I was born in the area. The people, while not as easily identifiable as in a Jeff Abbott novel, are locals I know. The Texas speak is just as if Ms. Willis and I were at the Creamery (TAMU) sharing milk shakes and local gossip. The kinks and knots in the plot made it hard to put down the book, even to get a tea refill. You can't help but like the characters and root for them. The story, filled with life stories, is actually pretty substantial, not fluff, and Ms. W is an entertaining storyteller. 5*
When The Stars Fall #2 - This book is better than Chicken Scratch (#1), which is a good book, too. A lot of suspense, along with developing romances amongst several characters, keeps the reader immersed in this substantial story. Like the first book, the baddie is easily figured out, but the story is well worth reading. There are too many of the well rounded, well developed characters to shout out separately, but they're all interesting, funny, sincere and just plain folk. The Big House becomes a prominent character and helps the family with a huge change to their lives, maybe. Not a cliffhanger, but there's a tease about the future of Big and Madison. 5*
Stipulations and Complications #3 - This is a heavy, suspense filled book full of dark secrets and mysteries with the past and the present colliding and the darkness is felt by all involved. Yet, there's plenty of good and love along with the humor. This intriguing, substantial read is hard to put down with its interesting storylines and well thought out characters. This book is on the level with DeMille, Follette, Grisham and Ludlum. 5*
Home Again: Starting Over #4 - Amen Sister to that comment about Texans and wannabes! This series must be read in order; they keep getting better and better. I love the fact that what happens in the earlier books are just slightly mentioned, instead of being retold. All the characters keep growing and their past and secrets coming to light as the books go on. Multiple storylines in this book and the twists and surprises just keep the reader glued to the pages. I've chain read the first four books and don't have the next two available to me. But I'm diving into book seven, the newly released The Lilac Code. 5*
The Lilac Code #7 - Trouble even finds them outside of Texas! I missed the two books before this one, but it was still an interesting read. I was disappointed with the ending - the gun in her hand was forgotten. But the pages were full of intrigue and suspense, and the characters were intense. Again, there were multiple stories occurring, along with the main story. Current events were featured, which isn't surprising with all that's happened in Texas and other U.S. locations in the past year alone. While not a cliffhanger, there's definitely more books in the future. I chain read five books in three days and never once was bored with this series. 5*
Home Again: Starting Over: The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series Book 4 is by Becki Willis. Arson is a terrible thing and the resulting fire can burn millions of dollars worth of land, barns, houses, and stores before you know it. Luckily there is insurance which helps pay for the damage, unless it doesn’t pay or isn’t enough. Lives can be lost or changed by fires. Why would someone start a fire that would change someone’s life so quickly? Maddy Reynolds was excited to be getting so many jobs, even if some were boring. Luckily Derron was there to help her out. Now Genny, her best friend, told her that Carson Elliot wanted to see her. Carson was the new dance instructor in town. He was gorgeous and had loads of money. Why would he want to see her? Carson wanted to hire her to clear his friend’s name. Gloria Jeffers had just died with alcohol poisoning. The problem he saw with that was she didn’t drink! How did the alcohol get into her system? Little did Maddy know that trying to follow Gloria’s trail on arsons that had occurred in the past would lead to an attack on her life. Meanwhile, the love between Maddy and Sheriff de Cordova is put on hold because Maddy’s daughter objects. Cutter and Genny seem to be coming closer together and Granny Bert has a secret that will come to light.
A lot happens. Genny and Cutter have eased into the deep of something neither was aware of. Granny Bert spills a few secrets about her wild and reckless youth. The twins are back from visiting the judgmental grandparents, Maddy and Brash solidify groundwork clarifying the direction of their relationship and the big house is almost done!
What! A mysterious death in The Sisters, Tx puts Madison Reynolds and her budding temp service (In A Pinch) in the right place at the right time. As Maddy revamps the deceased’s work at a law firm, the woman’s ‘friend’ protests the autopsy results and asks Maddy to investigate as Maddy’s threatened by a target of a previous investigation. Rating: 4.25stars
The characters in this are so all encompassing, Maddie is the prime example of a stressed out Texas mom that is doing everything and I do mean everything that is legal to make ends meet and pay the bills to support her almost 16 yo twins. Granny Bert, is the personality of this series as much as I want to be someone else, she is a hoot and a half! Genny may have the pulse on the cooking but Granny B has the pulse on the community. Brash and Cutter have their work cut out for them keeping the ladies safe and oh my will the danger be eyebrow raising, again! The world building is incredible and the situations are heart pounding. I am so glad I found this series.
Strange deaths, unusual fires, corrupt business people and an extreme home reveal all add to the intriguing activities happening around The Sisters. The series is heating up as Madison discovers a file and tries to understand the relevance of the contents. Once again she places herself in danger, this time taking her closest friends with her. The teenagers must learn that love and attraction have no upper age limits. The Sisters continues to slowly reveal their secrets. Romance comes along for the ride as cold cases are solved and the future is becoming possible. I anxiously await the next book and Genny's story.
This is the 4th in the Sisters, (cities in) Texas series- and I really enjoy the mystery story and the main characters- Maddy and Genny. They have been friends for years- and their family and friends and the townspeople create a warm, funny, trying and inviting atmosphere as the stories progress. . The town is full of really off the wall characters and the author writes both with familiarity of the small town situation, and lots of humor, mystery, strange occurences and some romance of the lives and the folks in the Sisters. This should be rated a 3.5. I continue to read each one as I really want to know what happens next.
Gin and Maddy get involved in mysterious fires from five years prior.
Maddy is a temp for a law office's secretary, Gloria, who has died under mysterious circumstances. Maddy is trying to decipher the former secretary's filing system. She has five files on a folder which don't appear to be related. Maddy is hired by the secretary's closest friend, Carson, to discover how she died because he refuses to believe his friend died of alcohol poisoning. Before the mystery is solved, Maddy, Gen, and Grandma Bertie almost meet their maker at the hands of a deranged murderer.
Boy a lot happens in small the Sisters town. Friends and jealous people that can’t get over there hatred. Old loves and new ones. Makes for an interesting town. Maddy and Genny are old friends that always seem to get into life threatening adventures.Brash and Cutter to the rescue. Granny Bert finds an old love that wants to get reacquainted but is she open to this mans suggestions. Granny is a fireball in her 80’s. Love that old lady. Love this series of books it’s quick easy reading. Jo
This is my favorite book in The Sisters, Texas series by Becki Willis. Once again, the reader is reintroduced to many of the main characters in the previous books and gets to see how their lives are progressing. There is more of Granny Bert in this book, and her character is usually hilarious. There is also more emphasis on the developing relationship between Cutter and Genesis. There are lots of characters who seem to have motives for committing the murder Maddy is trying to solve. The writing flows smoothly so the reader can read quickly. This has been a good series so far!!
This series keeps one guessing Mandy seems to find trouble. The relationships that are built are blossoming and the house is almost done makes you wonder what mystery will pop up and if Genesis and Cutter will hook up and goodness we can’t forget Granny Bert. Granny Bert is a hoot right by herself. She’s one of my favorite characters rightly it’s hard to pick one. This series flows and the characters are well developed so I would recommend this series it’s a good summer read.
I just can't get enough of The Sisters, Texas books. I'm having to pace myself so I don't read them all at once! Great characters, engaging stories, good suspense, and a subtle dab of romance - the kind that has you on the edge of your seat cheering for the couples! Becki Willis, I know this isn't your only series, but PLEASE keep this series going! ;)
The quality storytelling continues in The Sisters series. The characters continue to steal my heart and the bad guys can sure cause some heart stopping excitement. Some new characters are introduced that I look forward to seeing developed. Can't wait to see how life is going for Maddy, Brash, Cutter, Genny and the rest of the family and friends of The Sisters.
This is the fourth edition of Life with the Reynolds -- Bethany, Blake, and Madison. The Big House is almost finished (they got a super-deal to renovate the stately mansion at no cost to the Reynolds family if the TV producers could make it into a one-season reality show). Because this is a multi-storied series, there are characters that move in and out of the series.
The mystery involved in this story is quite different. I read mysteries all the time, but I didn't see this one coming.
Another good mystery from Ms. Willis. I have noticed a bit of a flaw, the bad guys are a bit stupid. If they'd leave well enough alone, I'm not sure they'd get caught. But then again, if they were that smart they probably wouldn't do it in the first place... and we wouldn't have such fun books.
2 more to read before Christmas! Hope you enjoy them.
There is a great talent in being able to write from multiple points of view, in knowing your characters so well that you can switch between them at will and still absolutely nail their motivations and emotions. The way Becki Willis manages to slide from character to character without missing a beat is nothing short of masterful.
I like the mysteries Ms. Willis has penned so far. I get to the point where Maddie is in danger and I think I can't read anymore. What if she dies? OK I know there are a few more books. Looking forward to weddings. At least 2 and hopefully 3. The characters are wonderfully lovable. I am enjoying this series immensely.
This next mystery has an arsonist who twice almost kills Maddy and best friend Genny. The house is almost finished and life with cameras is almost over. Things heat up between Maddy and Brash, and Genny and Cutter. Even Granny Bert has an old flame come back into her life.
I guess there is more crazy in small Texas towns. But there are more wonderful characters, too. This latest entry has a whole lot of both. The mysteries are incredible. The families seem to be interconnected (be careful who you fall in love with). Be careful who you talk about, too.
Madison once again is hired to prove that Dorothy Jeffries was not an alcoholic. What she forgets to consider is if Mrs. Jeffries was not an alcoholic, how did she die?
This book is just as great as the first three is this series. The story is fast paced and never dull. As with each of the other three books....I never wanted to have an end. I can't wait for the next book!
Good enough. I keep reading the series. I can't say I like all the mistakes but, they seem to come with e-books. I guess it's called progress these days. As I get older it does get more difficult to get to the Library to check out real, paper books which are better edited.
House is almost finished. Small town death in a strange way has all talking. Mandy takes a case to see what happened to her. And discovers a huge mess! I like these books as they are a bit of mystery and love mixed. I like the characters too.
This book was so. good and the story is so well done. You just have to keep reading and get to the next book in the series. The action and suspense is outstanding.Thank you Becky Willis you are a awesome author. Please read this series you won't be sorry.
A 9 live, but hw many lives does Maddy have? seeing more of the twins and Granny Bert. The remodel and the reality TV show are almost ready to wrap p. Don't miss this book. Each book is getting better.
