PATRICE M FOSTER
BIOGRAPHY

Patrice Foster’s life reads like an adventure novel that might have been entitled, “Journey to Respect’. Born in Jamaica West Indies, she and her five siblings were abandoned when her mother fled to America to escape her abusive husband, who then later abandoned his children. Patrice and her siblings were placed in foster homes and subsequently shuffled from one uncaring and abusive family to the next. Entrusted to the care of an uncle, young Patrice became close with an American missionary in the hopes of communicating with her mother in America.
When Patrice was twelve, she and her siblings were finally reunited with their mother, but it was not the happy reunion of their dreams. Obligated to find other living arrangements, the situation eventually deteriorated until Patrice ran away to live with their father.
After finding herself locked out one day, Patrice became homeless and struggled to survive. Her life on the streets was a dangerous and discouraging time, yet despite her hopeless situation, she managed to finish school and moved to New Jersey where she entered an LPN program 1986. After graduating, she relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she furthered her career by becoming an RN in 1998. She continued her education by pursuing a BSN program at Immaculate University.
Through her personal evolution, Patrice continues to battle the demons of her youth and desire to feel worthy and respected by striving to heal a little each day. Aware of the poor treatment encountered by nurses, in 2000, she established her company, Respect Medical Services, through which she committed herself to improved the working conditions and compensation of medical personnel. Her belief was that nurses who were treated and compensated as professionals were better able to perform as compassionate caregivers, thereby creating an environment beneficial to the physical and emotional wellbeing of their patients.
Patrice's greatest sense of accomplishment was achieved by securing employment for others. Though she closed her business in 2004, she continues to work as a nurse, as well as traveling the path to healing and self-discovery.

Angela and Jessica are friends but Angela’s father doesn’t want them to be because Jessica is African American and Angela is white. Jessica’s father doesn’t want them to be friends because Angela’s father is racist. Angela’s father is abusive to his mother and to Angela and Angela turns to drugs and cutting in order to deal with the abusive situation at home. Jessica knows that the pills Angela takes aren’t for her migraines and that the cuts on her wrist weren’t an accident. Jessica decides to help Angela despite their parents and to help her change.

Tainted by Hate is book #3 in the series and is a book that focuses on friendship and racism. If your teen is struggling to handle racism or you simply want to help them understand an issue that’s all too common in today’s world, Tainted by Hate is a wonderful way to begin a conversation with them.

Tainted by Hate is a novella and Book 3 in the T.D. book series written by Patrice M. Foster. While the novella is described as a story about friendship, this is only peripheral to the real issue, teenage depression and isolation.

On the outside, Angela Forrester is a typical sophomore in high school and is the eldest of five children to a cowering, stay-at-home mother and an abusive father with die-hard prejudices. Her father’s very vocal prejudices have put an abrupt and embarrassing end to her relationship with Jessica Morrison, whose family moved to Angela’s neighborhood some time ago. Too bad, really, because Angela could desperately use a friend to confide in. Her father’s taken to leaving his family for almost a week at a time and it’s common knowledge to Angela that her father has other children and other women in his life. With her mother becoming more angry and depressed over her husband’s unapologetic philandering, escalating violence and increasing absences, and Angela being forced to care for her younger siblings while her mother sobs on the shoulders of a sister, she turns to pills and weed to get high and take the edge off her otherwise miserable life. Slowly, things begin to spiral out of control until a fateful day in the park where Angela sees her old friend, Jessica…

Foster does a good job getting her readers into the head of the conflicted Angela. We are able to empathize with Angela’s isolation and despair and her love-hate relationship with her father. All in all, the story is good but the back-cover synopsis is far from compelling. The grammatical mistakes must be corrected and the synopsis retooled and given a more personal bent if it is to attract readers. It’s important to keep in mind that the story is what compels the reader but it’s the cover and synopsis that attract the reader and then reels them in.
