Wagons West #22

New Mexico!

Rate this book
No marshal's badge or sheriff's posse had yet brought law to the sun-drenched adobes of the great American Southwest. White settlers, Indians and Mexicans trembled in fear under the azure sky of old Albuquerque, as they prayed to God that the cruel renegades called the comancheros would spare their women, their homes and their lives. But outside this thriving city the comancheros were gathering...as the time neared when all would feel the terror of the desperadoes' lust for cruelty and gold.

NEW MEXICO! The hostile desert and hidden arroyos offered cover to a roving band of killers. No soldiers could catch them; no settlers resist them. So upon the broad shoulders of Toby Holt, son of the West's greatest trailblazer Whip Hold, would be laid a desperate burden--to travel into this no-man's-land and infiltrate the deadly gang. And as Toby left behind his beloved Alexandra, perhaps forever, his friend Henry Blake would wrench himself from a Baroness' arms to thwart a deadly plot abroad. But no one faced more peril than the brave young woman photographer whose indomitable American spirit fueled her courage to survive captivity among the fiercest savages...as Toby Holt raised his rifle to fire in the name of justice in this land of blood and honor--NEW MEXICO!

Outstanding! This might be one of the best, if not the best, of the series thus far. It hit all the right notes. Continued existing story lines without being too cliche while wrapping up some existing ones. One does get the sense that the entire series is wrapping up ( there are only two books left)

this was one of the best in the series in my opinion. lots of action, and the suspense was laid out better than other times where you have too much insight from other characters.

things that are tea: Andy getting Lydia pregnant, and completely forgetting his son back in the US. Ted agonizing over Marjorie, and dying (even though i actually liked him—and everyone i hate seems invincible). Henry wanting help from his family (for an appendectomy for Gisela) when he betrayed everyone by having an affair?? lemme guess—she’ll die and Cindy will be like “oh, Heinrich!” 😐

on the cover is Toby (with his comanchero blood oath red bandana) + Juanita (probs)

I am determined to finish this 25 book series and I am almost done. All of the books, including this one, are well written. They are great stories. Romance, adventure, suspense, they are everything I could ask for in a book. I feel at times I am riding along on this journey across America.

My only gripe about this book, is that so much of it takes place outside of America (Germany, France, Mexico).

This book seemed to involve a lot of people and certainly jumped back and forth. Perhaps that's a result of a growing family and network of friends.

I really do think there was an author switch because we now have female friendships again in heavy rotation. Women actually talking to each and being there for each other.

Two stars because Cindy's friend loses her husband in the exact same tableau description that Cindy does (I swear you just have to change the names, and it is the same). Also, Edward's wife Tommie who was major character for two books is killed off page, allowing Edward to travel again. Kale's political plot is also totally forgotten and disregarded, sadly.

I also didn't like the fact that Cindy is not allowed to have new romance unlike say Toby who proposed to a woman days after his wife died. But because I read this series before, I know the author is saving her for Henry, but still it pisses me off. Men in this series never pine. It's the women only.

This novel was really 5 or 6 stories going on at the same time all over the world with dozens of characters. it was a page turner BUT I will not remember a thing about it tomorrow morning. It was pleasant to read and it held my attention but rather shallow characters and very simple dialog . If I had read the first 21 books in this series, perhaps I could have given it a 4 star rating. But I do not intend to go back and read those first 21 books..

I love New Mexico and this was a great read.. Even though I may find mistakes or wrong facts.. I won't nit pick because its still awesome! I just wish it was longer!! Lol New Mexico is an amazingly beautiful state and a 300 page book doesn't give it justice lol but still great!!
