“It’s over...forever...and you will never see me again!”
Fleeing New York, the east coast, and anything that reminds him of the ashes of his marriage to Andrew, millionaire Jeremiah runs out of gas on a rural road in southern Minnesota. While contemplating his fate, he’s greeted by someone else down on his luck, an abandoned samoyed who greets him with a wet tongue and cold nose.
“I took over the pet shop from my dad, and ever since everyone just calls me Pet Shop Charlie.”
Charlie is headed back to town after dropping off a Siamese cat to his owners as part of his volunteer work for the emergency clinic. After pulling over to ask if Jeremiah needs help, Charlie gives them both temporary shelter.
“In the end, the city mouse and the country mouse really didn’t get along.”
The chemistry between Charlie and Jeremiah is unmistakable, but will their personal differences and a jealous ex be enough to keep them apart?
Pet Shop Charlie is a 30,000 word romance novella with a happily ever after.
Grant C. Holland is an author of gay romance. He lives in the upper Midwest enjoying friends, family, great food, and putting stories with happy endings into writing.
While I did enjoy the story between Jeremiah and Charlie, I felt that the story concentrated on too many other things besides the developing relationship between the two. There wasn't closure on Jeremiah's past relationship and while there was a promise of forever, the story seemed to have an abrupt ending. I would love to read more about Jeremiah and Charlie.
Unless I missed something, which I could have since I skimmed the last part of the book, Jeremiah was still married to that... to Andrew. Why didn't he see a lawyer immediately? And didn't he have a prenup? If I had that much money, I would have.
Were his parents so uncaring they didn't notice their son had left town without telling anyone where he was going?
When Jeremiah moved to the apartment, how was it no one heard Andrew pitching a hissy fit?
For that matter, how come no one was on the street to hear/see Andrew beat the living daylights out of Jeremiah? Yes, it was night, but really?
Also, for a millionaire, Jeremiah didn't seem to have much in the way of gumption. Why did he let Andrew walk all over him? Wasn't he a child of privilege?
In addition, we never got to know much about Rollins. Was his sole purpose for Jeremiah and Charlie to meet cute?
Finally, why was the vet, who didn't live in Eagle's Glen, always coming to Charlie's shop? Charlie was awfully quick to go to her clinic without being told something was wrong.
As I said, so many questions, so few answers. ::sigh::

Grant C. Holland's Pet Shop Charlie is very sweet. There are some quick moving bits too lol, but I enjoyed all the rural Minnesota "niceness". Brought back some nice memories I have of the lovely folks there.
A charming story, it could of had a little more depth but this being the authors first book I think he did a really good job and wrote a wonderfully sweet story. Jeremiah was really adorable although being from NYC he seemed a bit sheltered and naive. Charlie was perfect, sweet and caring. I just loved Rollins and Gordan, Rollins seemed like this angel that just appeared from nowhere oo bring Jeremiah and Charlie together. I look forward to reading more from this author iin the future. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This was a great debut novel for Grant Holland. The storyline is strong and the characters are well developed. Jeremiah is a gay billionaire who has decided to leave his husband of 6 mos to get away from the cheating and abuse. He sets off in his car and travels west from NYC. On his trip he runs out of gas and meets Charlie in a small town in Minnesota. Charlie owns a pet shop and their are definite sparks between them. At the same time Jeremiah has come across a beautiful white dog that befriends him. Charlie has offered to give Jeremiah a place to stay and the three become very close. Charlie wants him to stay, but Jeremiah decides to get his own apartment. Charlie does not want to lose Jeremiah. But then Jeremiah's husband shows up to take him home. A confrontation ensues. The next night Jeremiah's husband assaults both him and his dog putting him in the hospital and the dog in surgery as the animal hospital!! Charlie knows he will never give Jeremiah up... this is their story!!! An amazing love in a small town and a wish come true. Loved this story!! Great job for a first book! ❤️
This is the first time I have read a book by this author and was very pleasantly surprised at how well the book was written. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this wonderful, entertaining book. What you will find in this book is: a millionaire and artist running away from his husband (Jeremiah Collins), a good looking man and owner of a pet shop (Charlie Hopkins), his veterinarian friend (Marrisa), a serial cheater and abusive husband (Andrew), drama, suspense, betrayal, leaving, breakdown, a stray dog, help from a stranger, talking, verbal banter, a guest room offer, phone calls, explanations, understanding, talking, messages, agitation, e-mails, threats, attractions, a apartment, friends advice, a bitter ex-husband to be, attacked, injuries, a injured dog, good news, a surprise, emotional feelings, lust, love and mild erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well thought out and written, the pace is steady and not rushed. The characters have needs and desires according to their personality. I would recommend this book to people who like to read a M/M romance with a HEA.
I like Grant Holland's stuff--it's uncomplicated by outlandish twists, and the Midwestern characters are basically true to their stereotypical images. In this one, Charlie (left on the cover) is the star and rich New Yorker Jeremiah is the complication.
Charlie, who has been hurt in love before, is smitten and Jeremiah, who is escaping what seems to be a mildly abusive marriage, is cautious but also somewhat smitten. What both share in common is an adoration of Rollins, the Samoyed who inexplicably helps bring them together--and whose origins are not fully explained, apparently, until the third in the series, which I have not read yet.
I didn't particularly care for Jeremiah--he is a bit spoiled and sometimes too stupid when it comes to trusting and planning. Charlie, on the other hand, is a jewel, and he carries the book and puts it in your arms for cuddling.
PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!! To my ratings (for all people, who wonder, why I say a 3*-book is a good book and should be readed): 5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like Liberty from Seth King or Save the kids series from EM Leya) 4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books) 3* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! 2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartly, but it was ok) 1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (maybe too many mistakes, not a nice plot, or unlogical story, so a NO-GO)
Sweet and simple I would have easily rated it higher if it had had a bit more to it. Like what happened with Andrew or Jeremiah closing up his life in NYC?

This was an excellent story, short, not too sweet and just a little steamy. The dynamic of main characters works in a totally contradictory sort of way and keeps you locked into the story. Read it, you'll like it!
Jeremiah is a gay billionaire who just caught his husband of five months cheating on him. Sick of the violence and verbal abuse, he gets in his car and takes off. Somewhere in Minnesota, his car runs out off gas and he is stranded. While waiting for someone to drive by, Jeremiah is surprised by the appearance of a lost dog. Soon after the gog shows up, Charlie drives by and rescues them. Charlie is a gay pet store own who also helps out with animal emergencies. Since he lives in a small town, his love life is non-existant. He is happy to help Jeremiah and the lost dog amd even lets them use his spare room when there are no available rooms in town. Charlie is instantly attracted to Jeremiah but he is afraid that He will quickly get tired of life in a small town and leave. Jeremiah is enjoying small town life and wants a relationship with Charlie It is hard to convince Charlie to give him a chancebut right after their first encounter, Jeremiah's husband bursts in demanding that Jeremiah come home. This is a sweet romance and I just love Charlie and Jeremiah. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and this is my review.

Pet Shop Charlie by Grant C. Holland When I started reading this book I didn't know if I would like it, but as I kept reading I really enjoyed it. Jeremiah is a rich New Yorker running away from his abusive spouse. His car broke down near a small town in Minnesota. While waiting for help he meets a beautiful white dog and a veterinarian named, Charlie. They hit it off and a love story begins. I really enjoyed this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This read was as adorable as the puppy on the cover. I felt like I got a true feeling of Eagles Glen and what it would be like to live in such a town (which I wouldn't mind spending some time in). Loved the characters of Jeremiah and Charlie as well as the precious dog Rollins. The book is only 91 pages long, so it would certainly be a perfect read on a lazy afternoon.
I enjoyed this sweet story of how small town pet store owner Charlie and broken millionaire Jeremiah meet and fall in love. This author was new to me, but I look forward to reading more by Mr. Holland. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Tender love story about a rich New York artist who has a car mishap during a road trip and was rescued by a dog and his future soulmate, the well loved pet shop owner, Charlie.
Jeremiah leaves his New York life for a little peace and finds himself getting more than what he was looking for. This was a cute novella with lots of surprises in the mix. Good read!
This is a great book. Especially as it's his first. It is both well written and scripted. The protagonists are wonderfully genuine. Can't wait for more.
