My casting for Jamie... just add tats ;)
I absolutely loved this book!! Beautiful writing, beautiful story, beautiful message. (4.5 stars)
I was hooked from the first page. The writing just drew me in and made me desperate to keep turning the pages. As an avid reader of romance novels, I found it especially interesting to see how strongly I was drawn in even before any hint of the love story was introduced. Like the actual backdrop of the story alone was enough to keep me riveted and I found myself curious to find out more about RJ Lawson.
But I'm getting ahead of myself here. The story is about a young journalist, Kate, who is granted an exclusive interview with a wealthy, mysterious, and reclusive tech genius turned winemaker, RJ Lawson. Being at particularly low point in her life at this time, she jumps at the chance to discover what sent this rich and brilliant man completely off the radar... "Imagine if Bill Gates or Steve Jobs had disappeared at the peak of their power. It's a huge story" ... and she heads off to the Napa Valley to meet with him at his award-winning vineyards.
What she doesn't expect is to be swept off her feet by one of the workers at the vineyard, Jamie, who took it upon himself to be her tour guide. But when Jamie mysteriously disappeared towards the end of her stay, it left her reeling and questioning everything... until a revelation hit her that made all the puzzle pieces fall into place.
I felt like I was transported away to the Napa Valley as I read. I could practically taste the wine, and feel the wind on my face, it felt like I was right there. I was swept away in the romance, intrigued by the mystery, and caught up in the whole story.
This story actually had a very strong "movie-quality" to it. The descriptions were so rich that I could vividly picture each scene taking place in my head just as though I were watching it on the big screen. To be honest, I think it would translate fantastically into a movie but that's a whole other topic.
Jamie made me fall in love! I swooned from the moment I met him. He was a bit of a jack-of-all-trades and a true renaissance man. Gorgeous, tattooed, hardworking, skilled, multitalented, and loved by everyone who surrounded him, but also hiding a mysterious past. He was sweet, kind, loving and adventurous. One part good boy and the other part bad boy, with an old soul... the perfect contradiction.
"He's sweet and sensitive, but confident and sexy as hell -- and smart, too. I don't know what the hell he's doing out here picking grapes."
We're told the whole story from Kate's POV and really got to see how far she came. She was lonely and insecure in the beginning and clearly wanted more out of life and over the course of the book we got to see her not only learn to have more faith in herself but also learn to trust enough to put her heart out on the line and fall in love. I liked that she was flawed and quirky and would sometimes blurt out her honest thoughts before her brain caught up with it all -- it just made her feel more real.
I absolutely loved watching Jamie woo Kate... their flirting, teasing, dating, and all brought a smile to my face in page after page of heart melting happiness. It was beautiful to watch them fall in love.
I will say that I had a slight frustration with Kate though in one part of the book (which thankfully didnt last too long). It's regarding the twist (which I won't spoil here)... I figured the twist out early on and while it didn't bother me that it took her longer to figure it out, I did wish she'd have reacted differently once she figured things out. Especially with Jamie being just so heart wrenchingly perfect, it was definitely frustrating for a little while at first but the more I read, the more I understood her reaction. I think in all honestly that it's possible that a lot of people would have reacted that way. Needless to say, my heart still absolutely ached for Jamie -- like OMG. "Night, angel." (*sob*) -- but at the same time, having read the entire book, I understand the significance of this part of the story and realize how important it was in helping Kate understand the true value of love in a person's life.
"Love is a thing that you can't take out of you. Once it's there, it doesn't go away, no matter what. Love can morph into hate and resentment, but it will always be there, buried under the bad feelings."
Even apart from the gorgeous romance, this book was filled with countless little heart warming moments -- Dylan borrowing her apartment (you'll smile when you read that part!), her betta fish named Anchovy (omg, I don't know why but I loved that so much!!), the letter from Bob (what an amazing person), and so many more moments that brought a smile to my face. This story was about so much more than just falling in love.... it was about learning to trust in each other and rely on each other when you're in love.
"What started out as a journey of one girl who kept herself hidden in the darkness became the story of two souls connected and growing together in the light."
Oh, and even though this was a complete standalone novel, there was a gorgeous little shout out to the characters from Sweet Thing that should give fans of that book a little *heart clench* moment ;)
There is a certain 'magic' or 'spark' or whatever you want to call it that really makes a book come to life as you read it. As a reader, I'm on a constant search for that special spark and I absolutely found it here.
Nowhere But Here was a unique and beautifully written love story. I laughed, I swooned, I wiped happy tears away, and I fell in love. This book warmed my heart and left me with the most wonderful feeling. I highly recommend it for all fans of romance!

Oh the romance! I fell in love with Renee Carlino’s writing when reading Sweet Thing. As much as I enjoyed her debut novel, I feel that this book is even better. The writing is wonderful and fluid, and the story of Jamie and Kate is just beautiful.
Kate is a young journalist. She lives alone in Chicago. She has no family, and only a few close friends. She keeps to herself and lives her life with the mantra I’m all I’ve got. She’s okay with that.
Kate has been in a funk at work. Her boss gives her a big break- a story that could make her career. An exclusive interview with the elusive RJ Lawason. A genius and millionaire who owns a successful vineyard in Napa. Kate’s trip starts a little rocky when she crashes into Jamie, an employee at the vineyard. Jamie is attractive, but that’s not it. There is something about him that she is drawn to. Jamie is insistent on being Kate’s friend. He’s taken by her from the start.
Jamie and Kate’s world wind of a relationship was fast. A few days together. Only a few days of falling for one another. It seems fast, but the progression of their relationship felt natural to me. Usually insta-love seems a unrealistic to me, but for some reason I didn’t feel that way about Jamie and Kate. Seeing Kate grow and change in those days was inspiring.
Things weren’t always easy for this couple, there was some angst, but it wasn’t on overload. Even though I found it very predictable, I liked the twist. I knew it was coming early on, but it worked.
One of the main things I loved so much about this story is the two main characters. My biggest problem with Carlino’s debut novel was the heroine. She grew on me by the end, but frustrated me most of the book. Kate wasn’t perfect, but she was very likable. I loved watching her grow and take a chance on love. That’s a big deal for someone like her.
Now to Jamie. Mr. Perfect. This man has the biggest heart. I can’t think of one thing I didn’t love about him. He was sweet, kind, swoony, giving and with the tattoo’s and all, it gave him a little bit of an edge. I loved the romantic side of him, the poetic side. Like I said, there wasn’t much I didn’t love about this man. I adored Jamie.
Not only did I fall in love with the main characters, but there were some fabulous secondary characters as well. I adored Dylan and Bob. Jerry and Beth were great, along with most of the vineyard staff.
This is a story that will make you fall in love with falling in love. I love a good romance, that happy feeling you get in your heart when you finish a book that has that kind of special beauty. I felt that way about this book. It made my heart happy. The way Renee writes makes you feel like you’re a part of the story. It’s so descriptive. For anyone wanting to read a beautiful romance, give this book a go!!!

She’s not getting any time with RJ and the time she did get didn’t go well. At least she’s got Jamie there. He’s sweet, kind and has a warm personality. It’s only been a short time, but she’s starting to fall. And it’s scary.

I am really sad while writing this review. I feel like someone cut one of my wings or stole my favorite toy. Rating Renee Carlino’s book only not quite full three stars, breaks my heart.
If you follow my reviews, you probably know what makes me tingle all over and go crazy for a book. I’m easy girl to please, usually. I need a sweet, toe curling romance with nice, but realistic, not annoying characters, some steam and most of the time I have a winner. Last year, Renee Carlino wrote absolutely off the charts splendid read. Sweet Thing was definitely right up my alley. I expected to be as enthralled by Nowhere But Here. Unfortunately, despite it being decent book, I was not swept away. I could not connect with main characters as much as I did with Will and Mia and that left me down. Guessing major twist while being only 10% into the story didn’t help at all. And having insta love thrown to the mix was the last nail to the coffin.

The story started promising. Kate is a journalist working in one of Chicago’s magazines. She always wrote boring articles about stupid and not very important things, like lipstick or wine. She definitely wanted to spread her wings and write something more creative. One day she gets that chance, though. Her editor asked her to interview R. J Lawson. That man is a genius and millionaire, he was also not doing any interviews for years . He’s philanthropic recluse that bought a winery and now his wine is winning many awards and is very popular. Writing a piece about him is Kate chance to finally be ‘real’ journalist.
When Kate is in Napa Valley she meets Jamie – one of R.J’s employees and quickly falls victim to the intense chemistry between them.
Wine, sex and romance in sunny California? Sounds great, right? That’s what I thought when I was impatiently waiting for Nowhere But Here to come out. Regrettably, it sounded better than it was in reality.
I tried to analyze what exactly, in my opinion, went wrong. What made Nowhere But Her ‘not quite there’ novel for me. And I came up with a long list.
Firstly, I’ve guessed the entire plot after reading about 10% of the book. I was like ‘No, it can’t be! It’s too obvious!’ but the clues where popping up everywhere, so I started to get bored.
Secondly, insta – love. This was the most disappointing and heartbreaking for me. After Sweet Thing where romance was slowly building up and everything felt so realistic, I’ve got… insta – love! I thought I was going to cry in frustration. It was like ‘wham – I see you, you’re hot– bam – we know each other 2 days but we have sex – thank you ma’am – we love each other !! YAY! And I thought Renee Carlino is a master in perfect love built up…
Next, was the fact that I didn’t love Jamie and Kate as a couple. They were so boring together! No spark, no banter, no real connection. Nothing that made them original. Will and Mia had music, Jamie and Kate? I am not sure what.
What’s more, Kate spent in Napa Valley about four days! It was a short span of time and it left me wanting more.
On the other hand, the writing was great. Renee is amazing storyteller and it shows. The way she pictured winery was wonderful. I could almost taste the wine myself. And don’t let me start on how picturesque was the scenery! I wish I could be there myself.
Summing up, Nowhere But Here didn’t sit well with me. I guess, it’s one of those stories that just couldn’t grab my attention… or maybe it just me that did not get the ‘feel’ of it. However, I still adore Renee Carlino and will read her next books with hope of getting the same bewitching story as Sweet Thing. I also strongly believe that most of the other readers will appreciate Jamie’s and Kate tale more than me, so if you loved Carlino’s work, don’t give up!

What an ever lovin' cheese fest!
Meet Kate. She seems a little unbalanced.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You look like you might be in shock,” he said. I started to sway"
“My knees buckled. I braced myself against the railing outside of the building.”
“Right at that moment my knees buckled..."
“...my knees buckled, and I started to collapse.”
"My knees wobbled."
This woman needs to see a doctor about that bum knee!
“When he let go, I stumbled to the side, not completely in control of my body.”
It's a wonder she didn't crap herself!
Then there was the spectacular cheese.
“When I was with Jamie I forgot about everything else. Just the word “kiss” coming out of his mouth could freeze time.”
Meet Jamie. I suspect he dresses in drag and goes by the name Mary Sue.
“I’m taking you to GLIDE. It’s a homeless shelter that I volunteer at.”
“I stumbled just before I got to the truck.”
Oopsies! Good thing Jamie's around now to help our somewhat disabled heroine. Don't worry, he's got Diabetes, so she gets to rescue him right back with granola bars and hypodermic needles!
“I stumbled but quickly regained my balance.”
Way to go Kate! Good for you.

2.5 stars!!! Grrrr!!! The first half of this book was super cute. But the second half of this book was a hot mess. It felt like the author wrote in extra scenes to prolong the book and they were not necessary, at all.

I've read a lot of erotica recently and you know what they're my fav alongside Alpha, dominating men that ooze sex I need sex in my reads but then sometimes you just need a break from that and you just need a sweet delicious read and this is most certainly just that, this book is just beautiful, it's a romance love story and a romance story on life and learning to experience life, to enjoy life.
So what's it about?
Kate is working as a reporter in Chicago, she's bored with writing about lipsticks and mundane mind numbing pieces that she has no enjoyment out of, she's there though because she needs to pay her bills and she just plainly needs to exist, this is until her boss and friend send her to do an article on the famous reclusive RJ. RJ Lawson is a genius but Kate is sent to find the dirt on him, to find something good, to bring something special back and to find some spark in her that she's lost recently. So off she goes to the Napa Valley to enjoy the wine and to find some spark, unfortunately RJ Lawson is not friendly and unwilling to go into any detail whatsoever about himself or the Valley or anything concerning his career, where he's come from Nothing. This leaves Kate in a predicament as she's got to deliver an article in a weeks time, and she's panicking.
Jamie is a Jack-of-all-trades, he knows he know on the wine and the romance of the Napa Valley, he comes to the rescue, he gives Katy the opportunity to enjoy the romance of the Valley.
What I will say here, is although this is how Jamie and Katy learn to more and more about each other, I enjoyed the romance of Katy learning how to live, to find her spark and for Jamie to take Katy back to basics.
Katy hasn't had the best life, her mum died when she 8 years of age and she never had a father that she knew of anyway, so was brought up by Rose her mums closest friend, Rose brought her up well and was loved by her but then she has died recently too, she now is feeling alone, she doesn't have many friends and no-one really that she can depend on therefore being close to Jamie is opening up her heart and alongside that is giving her the opportunity to live and to breathe.
BREATHING, WALKING, LIVING, LOVING
This story is gradual and although it grabbed me and I found myself pulled into their story, Jamie is the kind of hero that's kind hearted, friendly, loving, he's loving Katy and teaching her how to feel loved.
This story made me enjoy simple things like holding hands and first kisses
But as time goes on and Katy starts to enjoy what Jamie is giving, Jamie has a few hidden secrets, so will they survive them? will their romance last longer than one week?
This is my first Renee Carlino book and it didn't disappoint, I loved how simple it flowed, how I imagined being in Napa Valley and I will be definitely grabbing sweet thing soon as it's been on my TBR list for a while.

This story is gradual and although it grabbed me and I found myself pulled into their story, Jamie is the kind of hero that's kind hearted, friendly, loving, he's loving Katy and teaching her how to feel loved.
This story made me enjoy simple things like holding hands and first kisses
But as time goes on and Katy starts to enjoy what Jamie is giving, Jamie has a few hidden secrets, so will they survive them? will their romance last longer than one week?
This is my first Renee Carlino book and it didn't disappoint, I loved how simple it flowed, how I imagined being in Napa Valley and I will be definitely grabbing sweet thing soon as it's been on my TBR list for a while.

Kate lost everyone in her life and she feels lonely. To top that, she also recently lost her boyfriend and her sparkle, considering that she can’t even write something good anymore. Worried about her, her editor chief and friend gives her a change with a great article that everyone wants to read: What is the real life of the completely secretive man, ex-computer genius and now billionaire wine-maker, R. J. Lawson? He keeps his life a completely mystery, so this is a one-time opportunity for Kate.
When she arrives in Napa she soon realizes one thing: Lawson is a recluse asshole, but his handyman for everything, Jamie, is quite good. And in a week, everything changes for them both.
But Jamie has a secret past and those secrets could jeopardize everything between them. (Other than the fact they life far from the other, but you get what I’m saying.)
So when Kate find out that there’s more to the man she is falling for, that what he tells her, could she give trust in him again?
Jamie is decided to keep her and fight for her, but how much can you fight for someone, when you know that you’ll break her trust?
Rating: 4,5 Stars.
Storyline: This was a heartwarming love story that will leave you with butterflies in your stomach and smile on your face. Renée really have done it again! ;)
It was slightly predicable, I mean, the “big mystery” was easy to figure out almost from the beginning, but it didn’t really made a difference on the quality of the story.
Writing Style: First person, female POV. Addictive, emotional and sweet. The reason why I’m not giving it five stars? There was moments there the pace was so slow it were almost boring and a lot of moments were it was just TOO cheesy. But in overall, a pretty great story.
Character Development: Kate was nice, sometimes annoying as hell with her insecurities and indecision, but other than that she was likeable. Jamie was pretty sweet and excruciatingly romantic, sometimes a little over the top. But it was sexy, loyal with a big heart and did I say sexy? Oh yes, I did.
The supportive characters were good, the things that happened towards the end seemed a little forced and rushed but other than that I have no complains. And I loved to see a little bit of Mia and Will in there!

Talk about romantic! This is one of the most romantic reads I’ve read this year.
I loved the side characters: Jerry; Kate's boss, he was a little crazy, but a good man and desperate to see Kate 'get her spark back'. Her next door neighbour Dylan was a lovely addition too.
The hero, Jamie was boyish and adorable, he liked to 'live-in-the-moment'. I loved the scenes where he took Kate on an adventure at the wondrous winery.
The heroine, Kate was awesome! She slowly grew through the book, I loved her by the end. She's ballsy if pushed, she loves the little things in life, she's passionate and funny. At the same time she's haunted, troubled and pessimistic. Kate really made the book what it was, I even loved her downward spiral. I enjoyed her more than I did Jamie.
I deducted half a star because i felt the end was a *bit much*.
The romance is only set over a few days in the first half, but it's slow build. It's a sweet romance without the corny, there's lots of funny; I giggled quite a bit, it's not very erotic, it is about fate and death and love.

I thought this book was so so so sweet! And I’ve been wanting to read a romance so it was a perfect pick right now for me.
I absolutely loved the character Jamie, and then the plot twist OMG! Truthfully, there were a few moments when my jaw dropped.
After the last big thing to happen though, there was still like 50 pages left and nothing important or interesting really happened in them so that was upsetting.
Also, there is lots of sex🙈🙈
I thought this book was so so so sweet! And I’ve been wanting to read a romance so it was a perfect pick right now for me.

I had difficulties connecting with the characters, I was told the H would be an "Alpha" but was confronted a Beta, and the h was a bit annoying and oblivious to everything around her... There was also a bit of mysticism that I found annoying and though of it as an easy and convenient way to connect the 2 MCs...

With the stunt he pulled heroine’s career would have ended beyond repair, she’d have been blacklisted as a journalist for no fault of her own. And NO, HE didn’t do anything to fix that.
Heroine had a good relationship with her boss, who realised what happened, so they didn’t fire her. She was no longer doing the actual writing stuff anymore as a punishment. Hero’s reputation was reinstated by an “apology” article.
No grand gestures, no telling the world, even the editorial world what he did. He said he’ll fix it. He didn’t.
Calling the editor 500 times to make sure h is ok or not, from a trauma YOU have put her in, is not fixing it. Calling her non stop every night, is NOT fixing it. That’s borderline stalking and harassing.
To be perfectly honest, he never understood the measure of his fuckery and betrayal. IRL it WOULD HAVE DESTROYED HER CAREER, HER LIVELIHOOD!
And then the little thing about h’s mum’s resentment towards her dad. How they didn’t understand why she was so resentful whereas her mum’s ex fiancé pretty much spelled it out. The guy, who fathered her children, who claimed she was the love of his life, who begged her to marry him before she dumped him, EASILY, easily moved on to another woman. It didn’t even take him full 9 months because she looked out for him before the baby was born. He was settled. She never wanted to unsettle him. You want me to want her to believe in love of commitment or promises after that? Or have faith in men???? Heroine didn’t understand THIS? And hero, whose parents are epitome of love that when one died the other was almost living dead couldn’t recognise the betrayal?
No, I don’t find this book doing anything for me other than raising my blood pressure, so I’ll just let this one go too.

There is nothing like a good contemporary romance….and PEZ!

No one can argue that books trend. We've seen the vampire movement, the tie me up and spank me movement, and of course the bad boy player doing a complete 180, landing safely between the legs of a virgin movement. I could go on...and on, but I won't. My point is, trends sometimes hurt originality. Let's sprinkle a little bit of this best seller with a little bit of that best seller, and BOOM….instant success, right? Sorry, it doesn't work like that.
Nowhere but Here reminds me of what a good contemporary romance use to be. It was good. It was honest. It was devoid of mainstream hooks and shiny trends. It didn't try to be anything other than what it was, and I loved that! This book truly stood on its own.
In the beginning, the relationship pacing was tough to swallow, but in order to make the plot work I understand that things had to happen over the span of only a few days, but I needed more development, more tension, and a little less awkwardness. When Jamie first kissed Kate (on the cheek), I was like, "Huh? That was awkward, and Huh?."
I have to applaud Renee Carlino's attempt to do the best she could with such a small time frame, but it hurt the emotion that could have been established by a developed relationship. Pacing was definitely that significant factor keeping a really good novel from being a really great novel!
I also figured out "the secret" from the very beginning, but I don't believe the author really intended it to be a secret from the reader. I truly feel we were suppose to know, and the anticipation of it being revealed was its intent. Not shock, anticipation.
The second half did an outstanding job trying to overshadow my earlier reservations. Jamie's fear of losing Kate. Kate almost being lost. The intensity. The drama. In the second half, the expedited relationship was halted, which then allowed it to be developed in a way that I wish could have been possible in the beginning. I found a renewed love for this book that I didn't even realize I had. I was forced to go back and reread what I was indifferent about and saw things in a new light. I needed the emotion that the second half provided.
Was it perfect, no. But it was, without a doubt, a beautifully written contemporary romance novel. It's what I remember a good contemporary novel to be before everyone started to see how far they could push the line. I found romance, love, originality. I found something unique and creative. Despite its good moments, its bad moments, and everything in between, it was a good read.

Audiobook Review
What did you like best about this story?
Life has a way of knocking you down and then stripping away nearly every ounce of your self-confidence, strength, and joy. I enjoyed the process of Kate gradually getting her mojo back despite her weariness.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Jamie. He is a genuinely nice and humble man who enjoys working hard and appreciates the little things in life. Jamie is also good with his hands (in the wine fields and in bed—just sayin’). I love his persistence in pursuing Kate.
Is this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. This isn’t a book that swept me away to the point that I was fully engrossed and couldn’t stop listening. I happily and easily reconnected with the characters when I was able to continue listening to the audio, though.
Have you listened to any of Amy Landon’s other performances before? What about her performance did you like or dislike?
This was the first audiobook I’ve listened to that was narrated by Amy Landon. I have to say that I enjoyed the way she voiced Jamie—with lots of feeling and without sounding like a male cartoon character. Her portrayal of each side character, in fact, is distinctive and believable.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Amy Landon?
Definitely.

The plot is fairly predictable, but the strong relationships between all the characters make up for it. If I could change one thing about the story it would be to immerse the reader in the more sensory aspects of Napa Valley. I had a clear vision of being a guest at the inn, but I wanted to feel intoxicated by the sites, textures, tastes, and smells of the winery itself.

This is a great romance! Love, laughter, drama, and great friends....I truly enjoyed this book.
The characters have great personality and the story was interesting and easily drew me in.

Oh, this?
This has been me for the entire book.
I just couldn’t stop crying. Happy tears, sad tears, angry tears, all kinds of tears. I don’t know why. I think I have a problem. Maybe I need to go see my Optometrist. Yo, Carlino, this is your goddamn fault. I’ll send you the bill.
I really loved this book. And I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I will. This book is even better than Sweet Thing, and that's saying something.
I can honestly say that Carlino’s writing is brilliant and mean it with all my heart. She doesn’t create beautiful characters with blah eyes, blah hair, rippling muscles.

She doesn’t make perfect characters is what I’m trying to say. She makes lovable characters who are witty, quirky and have weird habits. If Jamie looked like an ugly chimpanzee, I would still love him. Because he was adorable. I mean his heart was adorable. Am I making sense?
And now I'm beating myself up because I read it so fast. I wish I read more slowly, savored it. But I couldn't. I was like a goddamn machine.
I don't even know how I managed to read through all the freaking tears. It was like a waterfall. I was reading everything Jamie said a million times. I was laughing my ass off at Kate. She was so hilarious. I loved everyone in this book. There wasn't a slutty ex trying to steal Jamie away or a stalker jealous ex trying to beat Kate up.
No.
And Carlino didn't go around describing everyone as beautiful, perfect and nice with kind eyes, yada yada yada. Everyone in this book had a thing that made them who they were. Sometimes when I read books with a lot of secondary characters, I get really confused because everyone is described as gorgeous, beautiful, perfect, etc.
This story, in my opinion, was about a woman who lost the only family she'd ever known. She was alone, lonely. She wanted to come home to someone, for someone to come home to her.
I'm not gonna do a summary or review it. These are just my thoughts on this book. I loved it. I lived it. I felt like I was right there with Kate, cheering her on, laughing with her, crying with her.
And now, I feel like I lost my best friend. I can't gush enough about this book. I wish I had it in paperback so I could smell it and love it and sleep with it.

As I sit here writing this short review I'm asking myself why it took me so long to get around to reading this book. This book melted my heart and put faith back into the possibility of true love again. I loved both the hero and the heroine and the secondary characters played an important role in the story also. Though it didn't take long for Jamie and Kate to fall in love is felt like they knew each other all their lives. You didn't get that insta-love feeling even though it only took them 4 days to fall in love. It felt like a true love from beyond. Like they were soulmates bound to be together no matter what. They had a bond from the very beginning.
This is by far the best true love story that I've read in 2016. Though the twist was somewhat predictable early on, the anticipation of finding out if your suspicions were correct was so rewarding. The connection level between the hero & the heroine was genuine. This is the kind of book that you can read over and over again and not get tired of it. This has little to no angst which I liked. Sometimes you just need a good fluffy read that makes you all tingly all the way down to your toes.

This book was such a mixed bag. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. Sometimes I wanted to slap the author and sometimes I wanted to high five her.
The twist? It was ENTIRELY predictable to me. I just KNEW from the moment they met what was coming. I feel like the author could have veiled that better. It took away from the story.
It took me a very long time to connect with the heroine. Kate is the opposite of a Mary Sue. She was so incredibly different from me. She reacted to things the complete opposite way. The contrast was so severe that I kept having to remind myself that it was okay for her to like things that I would hate. For example, Jamie is VERY clingy. He actually feeds her at a restaurant. If a man did that to me, I would be extremely turned off. So I had to keep reminding myself that it was okay for Kate to like that he did that. She was turned off when he confronted a man in a bar who touched her inappropriately. She says, "what do I say? That was so weird and possessive." I would have had opposite reactions to that so it was hard to not scoff while reading this. I had to keep reminding myself that she isn't me and is allowed to like and dislike different things.
Parts of this were revoltingly histrionic. I'll let these examples (and gifs) speak for themselves (disclaimer: I am not a sentimental person. My husband and I do not make sappy proclamations to each other on a daily basis and I am not generally a fan of Nicolas Sparks novels. So take from this what you will.):
I was willing to spend the last moments of my life doing what I was doing with Jamie because it made me feel like I had a purpose. I felt more aware of the humanity in others, something I had lost sight of since Rose’s death. Serving food to the homeless truly made me feel like I was connecting more deeply with others. It was one of the most authentic and satisfying feelings I’d had in a long time. I thought about Jamie comparing love to food, and now I was comparing charity to life through food.
Katy, I want to kiss you like that every second of the day, even in my sleep.
I don’t know what I’ll do if I fall in love with him.” “If you fall, let him catch you.” And then he hung up.
I only laughed ONCE when reading this novel. Once. This is a problem for me. I like a little humor sprinkled in. There wasn't a lot here:
“There’s salsa, plus I’m a vegetarian. Actually, I’m a pescetarian, but that’s just semantics.” Then I smiled really wide. “You know what? Fuck it! Let’s go get a hot dog.”
Towards the end of this, even though everything did get tied up in a pretty little () bow, there were two times when I wanted to high five this author.
I am so sick of these possessive men who want to OWN their women. I think Carlino did a good job of allowing the hero to "claim" the heroine without being an outright controlling douche:
“Am I? I’m just looking at you, at what’s mine.”
“Listen, sailor, you don’t own me. I’m not yours.”
“You’re right, I don’t own you.” He bent, still hovering, but his mouth came close to my ear. “I never want to own you, but you are mine. You’re mine to love as long as you’ll let me.”
And then at the very end there's this gem:
This is what I would really say: “Leave your life. Leave everyone you love, every care, every stress, every commitment. Live alone. Understand what it feels like to know that if you go into cardiac arrest, choke on a piece of hot dog, or get electrocuted, no one will find you. You’ll rot. No one will mourn you. Imagine this feeling haunting your thoughts for the rest of your life. You’ll wither and vanish, and some stranger will take care of your things and your burial, and you may not even get a placard. Imagine that, live it, and let yourself believe that you should be alone, and then go back to the people who love you.” That is what I would preach. That is the challenge I would present. Gratitude is the quality of being thankful and the readiness to show appreciation in return. On my journey, I learned what it felt like to live. To live is to be grateful.
So yeah, this book had a couple of good moments, but overall it was just kinda...

Too much! Oh the cheese and the cliches...
I'm a sucker for romance, hence all the romance novels I read, but this one was a huge miss for me. I know I'm in the minority here but I didn't get it.
It starts off decently but quickly turns into a bunch of nonsense. She breaks up with the guy shes dated for 2 years and moves on THE NEXT DAY with the a guy she meets the day before. Then, after being with this new guy for only 2 days, she starts thinking about moving and starting a life with him, but then on day 4, it all goes up in flames and shes left devastated and grieving over someone she was only with for 4 days...never mind the guy she dated for 2 years...
Nothing about this one clicked for me and I just could not get into this was and was so glad when it was over. Although I must confess, Jaime is a catch, his character totally rocked and was lovable, I just didn't understand why her? There wasn't anything special about her personality or anything that stood out about her besides her looks. I suppose that's good enough for some, I just needed a little something more. Everything was so frivolous and then she would add these deep meaningful lines that didn't fit, the whole thing felt forced to me. This one was a bust.

A perfect, heartfelt romance.
Nowhere But Here is a love story filled with goodness and heart, sexiness and sweetness. It left me grinning widely and feeling warmly.
I loved so many things about this novel. It felt like a true romance. The kind that sweeps you off your feet and leaves your heart full and happy. I’ve been reading too many books where the characters are so deeply flawed and impossibly broken that it felt refreshing to immerse myself in a story where the characters were simply falling in love. Yes, their past had not been hearts and rainbows, but their story truly centered around the romance. The love. The fateful encounter that would change the course of their lives. I devoured the book in one sitting and it left me grinning widely and feeling a wonderful sense of fullness at the story’s full-circle end.
Kate Corbin has been feeling a little lost lately. Shaken by a recent death, she leans on her boyfriend to fill the gaping sense of loss inside. Nonetheless, every time she needs him even in the smallest way, he seems to be so absorbed by his own life that there’s simply no room for her. Kate, however, clings to him because he’s someone in her life that hasn’t left her. That claims to love her. She’s floating through life looking to fill that hole inside, looking for inspiration, for something more to spark life once again. Her writing is suffering too. So when her boss gives her an assignment that can change everything around, she hops on a plane to Napa Valley in hopes of scoring the interview of a lifetime with a reclusive genius-turned-vintner, and just maybe, something more to set her on the right path.
But as with all good intentions, her stay in Napa begins with a crash. Literally. She plows her rental car into a pickup driven by a beautiful man, a worker, at the winery. And then, her interview with R.J. Lawson goes horribly wrong. He turns out to be a complete ass. On the plus side, the estate is breathtaking… every detail re-engineered to be sustainable, enjoyable and unforgettable. She experiences the innovative allure of the winery next to Jamie, the man whom she surreptitiously crashed into. Jamie turns out to be this amazing person… hardworking, deep, smart and entirely unsettling. Every look and every gaze they exchange is charged with an unexpected chemistry. But with a boyfriend at home, she’s determined to behave. Yet his words and actions show the kind of caring she hasn’t seen in a long time. The kind that begins to fill that hole inside.
When Kate’s boyfriend dumps her over the phone, however, suddenly her time at the vineyard… her time with Jamie, is full of possibilities. She’s scared to take the leap… to surrender to what she’s grown to feel so quickly… to be once again tossed aside by somebody else. Surrounded by beauty, wine, food and Jamie, she gives in to the experience that feels so intrinsically right.
Jamie is a man with a huge heart, who works hard, who cares deeply. He’s so taken by Kate and so quickly, the thought of losing her seems unbearable. And when they both give in to their feelings, everything in his life shines brightly next to this direct, witty, beautiful woman…
… until everything comes crashing down one night. And in a snap, Kate is back to a life that now seems emptier than ever, while Jamie is nowhere to be found. Everything unravels as secrets are exposed and a different kind of heartache consumes.
This story really evoked so many emotions in just the right balance. There was romance and hope and angst and sadness. I absolutely loved the setting that gave way to so many memorable experiences for these characters. Renee Carlino gives us a full-circle kind of novel that is already one of my favorites of the year. Bookended by a wonderful epilogue that had me smiling so so big, this was just a book that delivered in all the ways that count. I highly recommend you grab this book for it’s refreshingly romantic story line.

I read romance books. Obviously. Some speak to me a bit louder than others. This one not only spoke to me, but reminded me that love does exist. Nowhere but Here was put in my hands at just the right time and I'm so glad I got to experience Kate and Jamie's story.
The setting in Napa Valley, was gorgeous. Having been there, I could visualize what Kate likely saw. It's romantic, naturally beautiful and can quite simple take your breath away. Add in a sweet, sexy man...gold. Like Kate, I fell for Jamie, but what really made the story was the way Jamie fell for Kate. Sure, they had issues and certainly some truly terrifying circumstances to overcome, but Jamie loved Kate with all he had.
I could sit here and recap the story, but the thing is that the story just consumed me and all I know is how I felt during and after reading it. I felt hopeful. I even had that butterfly feeling in the belly that you get when read something truly beautiful. It also reminded me that we aren't alone in this life, even when we feel that we are. Kate and Jamie both learned a lot about themselves from their relationship and it made them stronger individually and together.
Overall, I really loved this story. It was beautifully written and I could clearly picture the scenes while reading. I love that. It makes the story come alive. I would like to mention that I loved the tie in with Will and Mia. It was only for a brief moment, but I loved it!
Would I recommend this one? I most definitely would. Romantics of the world, you will want this on your kindle come release day!

I just couldn't get into this one. Romantic setting. Likeable characters. Predictable story line. Very sweet. But... a little bland, maybe.
The hero was perhaps a little too eager... a little too "swoony". One day after the main couple's meeting they're already on a boat, sailing into the horizon and sharing heartbeats. Beautiful? Yes. A little too much too soon? For me, definitely.
Recommend it to those who truly love sweet, swept up in the moment romances and those who like men who call you "cutie" and "beautiful" in casual conversation, talk the way a woman would (as opposed to the way guys do) and who sign off their notes/letters with: "Kisses, Jamie".

I was scrolling my Kindle last night and spontaneously decided to read this one. Picking a book at random worked for me once this year, so I hoped it would work for me again; and I can safely say that this one did not disappoint! I'm on a little bit of a Renee Carlino kick so far this year, and have got another two of her books lined up for the next couple of months. With the way her books are going for me at the moment, I can't wait!
This story pulled me in right from the first page - I picked it up before bed for a bit of light reading, but didn't stop reading until I was 47% of the way through because I just kept telling myself "just one more chapter", but then it would get even more interesting and I would have to continue. I was invested with the characters right from the off; their personalities were intricately woven and plotted and they had a substantial amount of character development throughout which added a lot of depth. The characters weren't two dimensional or predictable. They didn't seem to fit into the "typical ya/na trope" category. She gave them both individuality with features that we don't often see in ya/na literature. I found the exploration of type one diabetes to be extremely interesting, and I think she definitely highlighted something that is very rarely explored in this particular genre of literature. I think she handled it brilliantly, too, and didn't use it as a plot device but made it seem like it fit into his life. To me, the characters felt like real people and that truly does add a lot to the story in that I felt that the characters were complex enough to carry the plot forward.
In terms of the plot, I can honestly say that this was extremely unique to me - it was interesting to get the perspective of someone on a journalistic endeavour, trying to get a scoop on someone that had gone off the radar completely. It was inspiring and interesting to read about her processes as a journalistic author, and how she found comfort in her writing (and often how she found it strenuous). Renee explored the comforting aspect of writing, but also the fact of how much you can portray through a written piece. The romantic element written within it is also extremely charming, witty, heartbreaking, but also hilarious. I love the aspect of it being set on a vineyard (parent trap vibes, am I right?!), which offered a unique setting for such a beautiful romance to take place. The setting doesn't feel stodgy or forced at all, and it seems to fit with the characters which fill the story. Having it being set on a vineyard is brilliant, but it also focuses relatively strongly on vineyard life itself - from the way a vineyard operates to the type of grapes that are harvested. It's a thoroughly intriguing balance between the romance and life on a vineyard and it definitely kept the story moving at a delightfully quick pace, and kept me thoroughly enthralled.
The plot is brilliantly woven and flows excellently, the pieces of which fit together seamlessly to create a story which evokes all sorts of emotion and she doesn't stray from taking the reader through the emotional ringer, which is something I really appreciate and desire in a novel because that's what wins my heart and sucks me into the story. The emotional spectrum that I felt throughout reading this book speaks for itself in terms of the books power and prominence - she got me so invested in the characters and their stories that I felt every single emotion that they went through, and it demonstrates just how artful she is in writing her characters.
A big portion of what made this book a five star rating for me was the family aspect. Family is a massive pivotal point in the plot and really adds a massive chunk of depth to the overall story. We are introduced to the importance of family, the strength of a family's influence on you, and why to always keep them close to you. It discusses the idea that sometimes, family isn't always the ones that you are related to by blood - but by the people who look after your heart and make you happy, whether it be romantically or platonic. It's a very interesting angle to take whilst writing a novel and it was refreshing to read a family dynamic that was away from the "norm", so to speak.
The character development throughout this is also extremely brilliant - Kate starts off as someone who relies on Just Bob on the L train to encourage her and to give her some much needed inspiration, but she ends the novel being powerful, intense and finding a lot of faith in herself. She never was a damsel in distress, mind you, stocking a lot of power in herself - we as readers can see it, but she just needed a little bit of encouragement to see it herself.
This also delved really interestingly into the world of journalism and it was written about really well, with Kate wanting to break out of the world of writing about lipsticks in order to delve into something more meaningful for her.
Filled with spice, steam, drama, excitement, love and laughs - this book is utterly charming and I would wholeheartedly recommend it!

To me, the characters felt like real people and that truly does add a lot to the story in that I felt that the characters were complex enough to carry the plot forward.
In terms of the plot, I can honestly say that this was extremely unique to me - it was interesting to get the perspective of someone on a journalistic endeavour, trying to get a scoop on someone that had gone off the radar completely. It was inspiring and interesting to read about her processes as a journalistic author, and how she found comfort in her writing (and often how she found it strenuous). Renee explored the comforting aspect of writing, but also the fact of how much you can portray through a written piece. The romantic element written within it is also extremely charming, witty, heartbreaking, but also hilarious. I love the aspect of it being set on a vineyard (parent trap vibes, am I right?!), which offered a unique setting for such a beautiful romance to take place. The setting doesn't feel stodgy or forced at all, and it seems to fit with the characters which fill the story. Having it being set on a vineyard is brilliant, but it also focuses relatively strongly on vineyard life itself - from the way a vineyard operates to the type of grapes that are harvested. It's a thoroughly intriguing balance between the romance and life on a vineyard and it definitely kept the story moving at a delightfully quick pace, and kept me thoroughly enthralled.
The plot is brilliantly woven and flows excellently, the pieces of which fit together seamlessly to create a story which evokes all sorts of emotion and she doesn't stray from taking the reader through the emotional ringer, which is something I really appreciate and desire in a novel because that's what wins my heart and sucks me into the story. The emotional spectrum that I felt throughout reading this book speaks for itself in terms of the books power and prominence - she got me so invested in the characters and their stories that I felt every single emotion that they went through, and it demonstrates just how artful she is in writing her characters.
A big portion of what made this book a five star rating for me was the family aspect. Family is a massive pivotal point in the plot and really adds a massive chunk of depth to the overall story. We are introduced to the importance of family, the strength of a family's influence on you, and why to always keep them close to you. It discusses the idea that sometimes, family isn't always the ones that you are related to by blood - but by the people who look after your heart and make you happy, whether it be romantically or platonic. It's a very interesting angle to take whilst writing a novel and it was refreshing to read a family dynamic that was away from the "norm", so to speak.
The character development throughout this is also extremely brilliant - Kate starts off as someone who relies on Just Bob on the L train to encourage her and to give her some much needed inspiration, but she ends the novel being powerful, intense and finding a lot of faith in herself. She never was a damsel in distress, mind you, stocking a lot of power in herself - we as readers can see it, but she just needed a little bit of encouragement to see it herself.
This also delved really interestingly into the world of journalism and it was written about really well, with Kate wanting to break out of the world of writing about lipsticks in order to delve into something more meaningful for her.
Filled with spice, steam, drama, excitement, love and laughs - this book is utterly charming and I would wholeheartedly recommend it!

Very sweet and lovely story...
A story about young journalist sent to Napa Valley to do a interview with a rich vintner ...
After not so pleasant encounter with the owner, she turns to Jamie, a man who showed her the beauty of vineyards and making the wines ... but also he showed her what true love is and that everybody needs someone to love and be loved in return ...
This is a story mostly for all the romantic souls ...

What a heartwarming book
The Plot:
Kate is a writer and a reporter in Chicago, she was sent to interview R.J Lawson who is the famous computer engineer and the owner of the winery in Napa, San-Francisco. Kate met someone in Napa whom works for Lawson, their relationship got intense and they fell for each other. But something happened and messed up all the sweet things between them.
My Opinion
After reading many fantasy books, my mind needed to rest and my heart wanted a fluffy, cute, sexy, romantic contemporary story, so I chose this one, and it didn't disappoint me at all.
It was such an inspiring, exhilarating, sweet story, It gave me butterflies in my stomach, melted my heart, and delighted my soul. Even though I expected the ending and the plot twist but I loved it.
This stirring work confused my emotions, they didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or get angry. It exploded all my feelings and gave me a huge appetite to read all Renee Carlino writings, not forgetting, of course, it inflamed my mind and flickered it with many ideas to write about.
