Libby Emerson lost her mother when she was only seven. After graduation from high school, she moved east from Montana, started a family, and married a young lawyer. On the surface she was very happy, but was deeply homesick for the wilds of her home in the Big Sky country. Libby was only 32 when her husband is killed in a freak accident. She and her 10 year old son decide to return to Montana planning to reopen the family resort which has been abandoned ever since the death of her father. The cash settlement, from a wrongful death suite, keeps Libby financially secure. However, the property has been closed for many years, and Libby discovers deplorable conditions and possibly more work than she has bargained for when she returns. She finds that her young son is a strong and willing ally in their family venture. Libby befriends an eligible deputy sheriff who slips inevitably deeper and deeper into her life. When the disastrous fire season of 2000 looms, Libby and her young son set into motion plans to survive this catastrophe. Libby’s future begins to seem secure, especially if she survives the firestorm, and if Deputy Taylor’s ideas and overt plans are carried to fulfillment.
