Growing up in Valentine, Texas, can make anyone believe in happily ever after. But newly declared recovering romantic Rachael Henderson has decided that love stinks. After having not one but two grooms ditch her at the altar, she announces her disenchantment in an uncharacteristic act of rebellion. She feels liberated...until she's arrested by Sheriff Brody Carlton.
Once upon a time, being hauled against the taut, rippling body of her first crush would have had Rachael planning the wedding of the year. Now it spurs her to created Romanceaholics Anonymous, a twelve-step program for love addicts. Soon all of Valentine is divided as die-hard romantics clash with antilove cynics. But when Rachael starts fantasizing about a lust-filled affair with Brody, she goes against everything the program stands for. Should she protect her fragile heart...or find a way to have her wedding cake and eat it too?
Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.
She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.
Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.
She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.

I'm currently making my way through the Wedding Veil Wishes series and am absolutely loving it so far! Even though I am reading it out of order whoops.
So, what's this book about? Valentine, Texas follows Rachel a jilted bride who has, once again, been left at the alter. In a crime of passion, Rachel vandalizes a romance-themed billboard in her home town: Valentine, Texas.
After he gets her down, Brody, Valentine's sheriff, has to take Rachel to jail. But he, like the kind man he is, decides to let her come stay at his house rather than the jail cell.
After being released with some community service, Rachel swears off all romance and even starts Romancaholics Anonymous but she can't help but notice that not-to-subtle feelings for Brody brewing in her heart.
This book is cruel in that it makes you think that you're about to get a kiss scene or the characters sharing their feelings but then as quickly as it came, that inkling goes away.
This book was frustrating in the best way. I became attached to the characters very quickly but because it was such a strong will-they-or-won't-they story all the way until the end, I simply couldn't put this book down.
I also loved how ridiculous this book was. It wasn't afraid to color outside the lines when it comes to romance and humor.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Although it wasn't my favorite in the series, it was still great!

This book great. I love how the characters fought between romance and true love and that there was several going on. Great story line. I read it in one day, couldn’t put it down.
OK. My period of good behavior is over. I can't help spouting off my opinions on this one ...
I know others really enjoyed this book, but it didn't gel with me for several reasons.
The book opens with Rachael Henderson jilted at the altar for the 2nd time. Still wearing her wedding dress, she drives like a mad woman to her hometown of Valentine, Texas to exact her revenge. (Valentine is one of those make-believe theme towns that capitalizes on romance, hearts and happily ever after.) Rachael is arrested by Sheriff Brody Carlton as she is hanging from the town mascot - a pair of large red lips - angrily painting them solid black.
Cutesy opening scene. Definitely a little over-the-top. Slightly funny if you can suspend reality and simply enjoy the storyline. But things went downhill from there with the plethora of subplots and characters and townspeople that were introduced. For me, it overshadowed the romance and seemed silly.
My geek button was triggered with the courtroom scene, lame legal arguments and dirty politics that take place. Definitely caused a half dozen or so eyerolls from me.
And then there is Rachael herself. Watching her struggle to overcome her romantic tendencies and start up a "romanceaholics" group was fun, but she still read like a self-centered twit to me. Her poor little me, feel sorry for me attitude and non-stop sniveling really bugged the heck out of me. She was a clinger who was trying not to act like a clinger. This girl didn't need another relationship. She needed serious therapy. Pronto.
But I did like Sheriff Brody. Kudos to this author for taking a chance and writing about an amputee hero! Who wouldn't like a man who sat by his dying friend's side in the World Trade Center during 9/11? And then he survived the Iraq war even though he lost his leg and his wife abandoned him. To top it all off, this almost-too-good-to-be-true hero moves his wild child sister and her daughter, Maisy, into his house and supports them. If Brody hadn't committed the sin of comparing Rachael to his ex-wife (several times), he would have been one of my all-time favorite heroes. (I also hated that his looks were compared to Matthew Fox at the beginning of the book. That sort of kills the image thing for me.)
I personally like to read stories that are a little more grounded in reality and have a LOT more dialogue. This one didn't work for me, but it might work for someone else who is looking for a light, fluffy read. Not to say that I didn't like this author's writing style - she has a sense of humor and I just might seek out her newer novels in the far-off future.
It's not the first time that Rachael Henderson has been left at the altar but this time, she had enough and blame her hometown of Valentine, Texas, romance capital of the USA.
Brody Carlton has been unlucky in love too. His wife left him and then he had to deal with losing a leg in Iraq, helping his wayward sister with her daughter and now his new job as sheriff.
When the mayor of Valentine calls him to deal with a delinquent vandalizing the billboard's town, Brody can't believe his eyes. Is that really the girl-next-door who had a crush on him when they were kids? Well, no matter what, he still got to do his job but maybe her night in "jail" will not be like she expected. Lusting after your prisoner is certainly not in the book's rules but it's not the only trouble her presence in town will bring because Rachael doesn't want to be Miss Romantic anymore and what better way to remind herself not to fall in love than to create Romanceaholics for people like her.
While the book had, at time, an OTT vibe, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this romance! Brody was a touching and yummy hero and Rachael was a bit neurotic but in a funny way. Some choice of words sounded strange and the second and even third romance could have been better but at the same time, it was part of the charm of this book. I would recommend it to fans of Rachel Gibson and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
I found "Addicted to Love" by Lori Wilde to be a fun and humorous story. In a way, it was an anti-romance romance. If that confuses you, read on!
Rachael grew up in Valentine, Texas where everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING in town glorifies the idea of romance. From the huge bride mascot at the entrance to town to parking meters shaped like hearts, Valentine's whole economy is built on the tourism trade of love. But when Rachael is dumped at the altar for a second time AND her Dad lets spill that he and her mom are getting divorced, Rachael becomes just a bit disillusioned. So she sets out to change her outlook and actions regarding love and romance.
Brody can't quite believe what he's seeing. There's a woman in a bride's dress defacing the town mascot! Since Brody's the Sheriff, and the Mayor is irate, Brody doesn't have much choice but to arrest the culprit. He always thought Rachael was cute and they were childhood buddies until he moved away, but there's something different about her now. Maybe it's the fact that she's all grown up...and really HOT. But Brody has his own demons to fight regarding love and self-image.
What makes this story so funny is Rachael's thoughts and actions to try and 'break herself' of her romantic tendencies...and Brody's reactions to Rachael. Throw in the wounded hero thing Brody has going and he becomes a man to dream of, with handcuffs!! Wilde is hit and miss for me, but I did enjoy this book. My only disappointment was with the lack of focus on Brody and Rachael. There was the whole deal with her Mom and Dad, a town divided by Rachael's thoughts and actions, and even a little political scheming, dirty politics, and strange bedfellows to boot. Maybe that was just too much for me to deal with while trying to understand Rachael and Brody.
"Addicted to Love" is the third book by Lori Wilde in a series about a wedding veil with magical properties to grant the owner their heart's desire. I've read all of them so far and each seems to 'miss' for me...just a little, but enough to impact my enjoyment. I need to add that this book is NC-17 solely because of one love scene involving oral sex. The rest of the book is fairly tame.
Overall I enjoyed this story and I always enjoyed picking it up and reading a chapter or two. I thought Rachael was an excellent character - someone who loved romance but without becoming a stereotype. Brody was the epitome of a great hero as he was sexy and strong while also being vulnerable along with it - perfect!
My main problem with the story was the fact that it seemed to plod along. There was no great urgency and no huge story to tell. Many chapters started with 'weeks had passed' which made the pace of the story quite slow. There was also a few back stories going on alongside Rachael and Brody's story and I for one would have preferred to focus on the main love story.
Having said all that, I did really enjoy this book. It's not wildly exciting but it's a fun, sweet and romantic story that is a good addition to the previous books in the series. 4 stars.
Rachael Henderson is running from the torment of being stood up at the alter. She is running to Valentine, Texas, her home town. While defacing a billboard, she is reconnect with Brody Carlton, the town sheriff and her first crush. That is where all of her trouble starts. She is always falling for the "meet cute" guy. The one who comes in to save the day but Rachael will have none of it. She forms a local chapter of Romanceaholics so that this does not happen to someone else. The group expands and so do the problems revolving around love and Valentine Texas.
I absolutely LOVED this book. Rachael's character was sweet, witty, classy, confused and in love with love. All she ever wanted was to fall in love and when she reconnects with Brody Carlton, her first crush, she begins to do exactly what she is trying not to, to fall in love. Brody's character was a strong, determined, patient, honorable and loyal man. Ahhhh, I am falling in love with him all over again. He was once divorced and knows what it feels like to be on the receiving end of unrequited love. Rachael is the woman he has been looking for all his life and he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her. The bond between these two was amazing. It all started with a friendship that never died. Addicted to Love was a three S, sweet, sassy and sexy. Lori Wilde did an amazing job writing this story and I will most definitely be reading the other books in the series. This was an amazing read! I highly recommend Addicted to Love to anyone who loves romance and humor with a touch of suspense thrown in.
Rachael has been rejected at the altar twice and believes the romance theme of her town has led her to have unrealistic expectations about love and romance, so she desecrates the town's symbol and is arrested by the sheriff.
The premise is weak, and Rachael was too one-dimensional, too one-sided in her views. I kept wanting to slap her. She came off as flaky and annoying. The town came off as a cartoonish joke. I could feel for Brody, he was a better rounded character and interesting, but it wasn't enough to pull up the weak plot and bad characterization of Rachael. The book didn't hold my interest and I gave up on it before the end, not caring how it all came off.
Also, there are two major sub-plots I kept skipping over, since the characterizations there were more on par with Rachael, in terms of how well they were - or this case were not - developed. The story of Rachael's parents could have been interesting, but some of it was too far fetched. If Michael really wanted Selina back, why not tell Vivian to bugger off? And his heart attack and their resolution at the hospital was too convenient.

I noped the f out from something that would have been good when the creepy man corners the woman running against him in the mayoral race STEALS the pepper spray the woman was going to use on him and the the woman gets a "oohh i've never felt this way before." and you know that this going to be a Thing and a big side plot.
I just....I'm not doing that. I'm not reading about a sexual predator and the woman who falls in love with him after she tries to pepper spray him while he threatens her
4.5 stars. book 3 in the Wedding Veil Wishes series The book starts out with a wedding dressed petite blonde defacing the town's billboard painting the lips black in her hometown of Valentine, Texas. She is rescued by Sheriff Brody Carlton, a war veteran with a motorized leg replacing the one he lost in Iraq. The mayor of the town wants to press charges. His family and generations before have always been in charge of the town and he is currently running for re-election. His closest opponent is Giada Vito, an Italian who loves her new adopted town. They have a volatile relationship whenever they are near each other. Rachael Henderson was raised in Valentine and was stood up at the alter on her wedding day by a handsome football player who choose the play for the Chicago team instead of completing his marriage vows. Also on that day, Rachael learns her parents are getting a divorce after 27 years of marriage. She is upset and thinks her life is based on lies and romantic notions that are unrealistic. She has to spend a lot of time with the sheriff who happens to be her first crush since they were neighbors until his family moved when he was 12. Community service is part of her sentence. A big town tradition of a fishing tournament forces many unlikely couples to be partners with the help a the town's judge and sheriff. Romance is in the air.
Poor Valentine, Texas. The town has a reputation for true love but one former resident back once more wants to change that. Rachael has come back to Valentine with her hopes for happiness once again crushed by a man she has fallen in love with. Being left at the alter and her parents divorcing have left Rachael bitter and vindictive - at least toward the advertising board situated on the mayor's land. Brody, one of Rachael's former boyfriends, now sheriff has to arrest Rachael because the mayor wants to press vandalism charges. Brody has feelings for Rachael but he's a veteran amputee and doesn't think he's whole anymore. Rachael starts an addition to love therapy group, there's an election for mayor coming up and the mayor wants to create an amusement park based on love and Rachael's father is trying to win back his wife. There's a lot happening and there are some surprises instore.
This was a cute romantic story about a young lady who had been raised on romance in Valentine, Texas to the point that she fell in love with everyone she met. After being left on the alter twice, Rachel Henderson realized that romance and love were two different things. Her hometown was a mecca for romance and she was here to stop it. Unfortunately her first step was the paint the big red lips on the welcoming sign into Valentine - Black - the Sheriff got involved and had to arrest her.
Sheriff Brody Carlton had lived next door to Rachel when they were younger before his family moved away and she was always on his mind but now he had to stop her activities before the whole town turned on each other. When Rachel started Romanceahnolics Anonymous, the town was split between romance and reality. Cute story.
Lori Wilde's book Valentine, Texas is an entertaining and great read! This book is about Rachael Henderson and Sheriff Brody Carlton. Rachael has lost all interest in Romance and no wonder! She was stood up at the alter two different times! Unfortunaately, she lives in a town that promotes romance! Very upset; Rachael desecrats the town's billboard! She gets caught and gets arrested by Sheriff Brody Carlton. In retaliation, Rachael starts a club called Romance Aunonymous. This club is for people who are disillusioned by romance. This creates chaos in the town and makes for an enjoyable story!
I needed some lighter reading and figured I'd give it a try.
Granted I didn't realize that this was a part of a series and I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but I didn't find this book particularly romantic or "exciting".
While the town of Valentine sounds charming and the opening meet-cute is pretty sweet, there wasn't much more to the story. I didn't feel much chemistry between the main characters and the plot about the parents seemed like it was going to pan out differently but still ended deus ex machina so overall it wasn't particularly my cup of tea.
I picked this up right before Valentine’s Day. It isn’t a Valentine-themed rom-com, it’s just set in Valentine, TX. There is a Valentine, TX. It just isn’t exactly like the setting of this book. Anyway, this is not a Valentine’s Day rom-com, but it does have some Valentine’s themes/scenes in it. Otherwise, how was the book? Everything you would expect. It is a slow-burn story that has an addiction component. But it isn’t an addiction you’ve heard of before. Nope, this addiction adds humor to the story. Overall, this is a fun story.
This was an enjoyable read, although pretty sad that none of the characters, except for Brody, seemed to have any clue about what a healthy, loving relationship consists of. (Brody had some struggles, but everyone else seemed clueless—pretty sad statement.) I really liked Brody’s character—he was the best thing about the book and Daniel Thomas May does an excellent job narrating! And how utterly refreshing that Lori Wilde can use correct grammar and has a great vocabulary!
I read the 2008 paperback edition of this book. It was a great addition to the Wedding Veil Wishes series. Rachel and Brody had each been burned and now had committment issues. You will have to read it to find out if they are able to work through this and get their happily ever after. I loved every minute of this book.
I really enjoyed the push and pull of this book. I loved the real ness of it too. Specially their love scene in the cabin where they don’t mesh initially. It’s real and I appreciated that. Most books make it perfect instantly and with the whole concept of this book, I thought that was a perfect play.
Its good to read a good story from one of my favorite authors. She described emotion s and feelings neo well. The plot was developer for 3 separate couples band gave them resolution that were satisfying. Brody and Rachael got a real chance at finding great love. Selina and Michael got a chance AR love. Kelvin and Ghana got a chance at first love.
fast fun read. dynamic characters that will jump off the pages at you. romance is slowly built making it more believable than most romances. It still has a happily ever after ending for not only the main characters but pretty much the whole town.
Valentine, Texas promotes it's town for tourism. Rachel gets stood up at the altar for the second time. She blames it on the town and it's foolish romance notions. The situations she gets herself into will make you laugh out loud. I loved it from the start.
1st book with this author. What a fun, entertaining story! Lots of interesting characters. Way to go, Rachael, for overcoming humiliating heartbreak & letting your rebel spring forth! This was such an enjoyable story, will definitely look for more by this author.
Lori Wilde is a new author to me and this book sounded interesting. I really enjoyed the story of Rachel and Brody and the people of Valentine, Texas. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Romancaholics.....I think I need to sign up. Brody might make it difficult for anyone to put to sleep any romantic notions. What a great guy. Even the Mayor surprised me in this story!
This is a story of a bride who lost her faith in love. The sheriff of Valentine, Texas will make her believe in second chances. A lot more sex to the story than was necessary, but the story was okay.
