The first six weeks of witch college has been emotionally draining and physically exhausting for Mercy Habernackle. She’s had to adjust to a new environment and to a new group of friends, she’s solved several murders, saved her roommate from an abduction, found out she had a brother, AND her mother came to town. All she wants is a break.
When her roommate suggests the Witch Squad take flying lessons as a way to unwind, Mercy is happy to cut loose. But when strange things start happening to her mother and a member of her flying class is found dead, Mercy and her friends must figure out who is behind all the darkness that seems to be haunting their lives.
Not only will the Witch Squad unearth long hidden secrets, but they’ll also put their friendship to the test along the way – can they come out stronger on the other side? Find out in Witch Degrees of Separation, Book 3 in The Witch Squad Cozy Mystery Series. The mystery in this book is a standalone, but the character storylines and relationships between characters are a continuation from Books 1 & 2 and it is recommended that you start reading with Book 1.
“Witch Degrees of Separation” is the third of seven “Witch Squad Cozy Mystery” books, and has just been released on audible.com. The series is not lesfic, but is narrated so wonderfully by Lisa Cordileone that I’m completely hooked.
Book three picks up right after book two, and naturally there’s a mysterious death in the first 20% of the book. MC Mercy is exasperated, and exclaims “Can’t we just have a break? I mean seriously. It’s been one corpse after the next since I came to town.” Of course, the rest of the Witch Squad, and several of their other friends are enlisted to help solve the mystery, along with a second mystery - who or what is tormenting Mercy’s mother, Linda?
Despite being 19yo-21yo, the characters continue to behave like they’re all 14-16, but now that I expect that, I was able to just enjoy the silly adventure ride. I highly recommend this as an audiobook, because it’s the narrator’s terrific voices that really makes this book fun.
By book three, we now know most of the Witch Squad, and the voices fit each personality perfectly! Mercy is the main MC, and she is the impulsive one, quick to “solve” any mystery by pointing blame. Alba is the serious one from Jersey, often insulting anyone around her, including her friends. Jax is goodhearted and desperate to be a witch; her high-pitched silly voice really grew on me for her character. Sweets the match maker is also good-hearted, and works to prevent conflict between characters. Holly, the buxom boy-chaser, is invaluable at solving mysteries with her visions.
Despite there being a death, the mysteries are treated as lightly as the romances, and there are no steamy scenes or even fade-to-black activity. This is a fun, silly, YA book that I enjoyed because of the fun narration. 4*
3.5 stars I like following the witch squad and the shenanigans that come their way. I was kept in suspense, but I just don't feel like this particular book in the series was as intriguing as the first 2. I still had a lot of fun reading it and am enjoying getting to know Linda and Reign as characters. The murder they were trying to solve did close itself up, but the drama around everything was more consuming than the murder itself. Even though it was still a fun read I think everything got sidetracked a little. I'm thinking it's paving the way for what may happen further in the series.
I was hoping that in this book Sorceress stone would change and her motherly instincts would kick in. I'm very disappointed to see she didn't. Their is something wrong with the stones and you really feel for Jax. This was another mystery that the girls solve. This one was closer to home. Another great fun mystery. Lots happens and you wonder how the girls even get to class or have time to learn anything new.
This may be my least favorite in the series that I have read, I am just starting book 6. However I still enjoyed the book but thought Mercy was a bit over the top in this one. Still a fast, easy & great read and the missteps (my opinion only) did not stop me from picking up the next (loved it and #5) immediately on completion.
I enjoyed this book and think it is another great instalment to the witch squad series. What makes it so magical and fun is the group of girls and the trouble they get up to. The book contains everything that makes a story great like able characters, a good mystery, a little romance, family drama, talking pets and of course flying lessons and to top it all off fun with magic spells. Off to start the next book to find out the author has in store for them next. The witch squad sign up for flying lessons as a way to bond over something other than murder. The sky's the limit until the fun comes crashing down. Mercy and her friends find a dead body. The body belongs to one of the boys who was also taking flying lesson. Did he fall off his broom? Or was he pushed from the roof? With her brother opening up his new business and strange things going on with her mother the last thing Mercy wants is to get caught up in another investigation. Especially when she thinks the killer could be her brothers father. The man who might just be the one causing her mother problems just by being in the same town as her. Curses work in strange ways and with the accidents getting more serious Mercy might just have to find a way to keep them apart or break the curse. Learning to fly might just be easier than catching a killer? I like the narrator and hope she continues with the rest of the series because I don't think I can imagine a better narrator to Mercy and her friends to life.
The five girls are still in their witch squad and the newest problem they face relates to familiar relationships. It seems Mercy's mother was formerly a lover of one of the teachers who they come to suspect is behind the possible murder of one of the male students.
Meanwhile, her mother is involved in opening a bed-and-breakfast type of place but strange things seem to be happening to her. The girls suspect she's been cursed. They also find out about a binding spell caused by her grandmother.
So now they not only have to deal with school itself but they need to find out what is going on and a way to protect their mother, even if it involves sneaking into the boy's dorm to do some searching there.
Jax still has no powers and we learn about Alba's past. Mercy's relationship with Hugh still continues. The ultimate question, though, is whether or not they can stop whoever is trying to hurt her mother.
X I wanted to like the story but I just couldn’t get into it, so the belt off about the plot and I just didn’t feel like there is a lot of development and the characters or the progression of the plot overall. It just felt very forced, nothing was really that important, the magic use was awesome as always, and the characters are sweet and they’re on Waze. But I just don’t really have much of attachment to some of the supporting characters and I’m just kind a bored of the plot as it is at the moment I am curious to see what the following books will have, but this one and the third book Are definitely misses for me.
Things are finally getting to normal for the witch squad and their learning to ride broomstick but alas is not to be. Ronnie a boy from the wizards school is found dead and the witch squad is on the case.
Add to that Linda is being played pranks on and we find out who Reigh father is and it's not somEone we expect. Add to that he's still in love with mercy mother.
This is Book 3 in the fantastic Witch Squad series of books by a very talented author M Z Andrews! This one again had everything that you need to escape inside your head for a few hours. The characters are developing superbly and the plot doesn't disappoint. These books make you want to keep listening/reading. You know you are in for a treat! Thank you!! This book was given to me for free at my request and I have provided this voluntary review.
I'm not a fan of werewolves and zombies, so finding this series was great. Straight witch. It's enjoyable to get to know Mercy and her Witch Squad, her mom and brother, and the other characters in this story. I will happily read the entire series! Thanks M.Z.!
This series is a fun, easy read. The camaraderie of the Witch Squad is a joy to see. These girls are good friends, but with real conflicts at times. It isnt all sugar and light. The newest adventures they get into involve a mystery, some magic, and possibly a murder!! I will continue to read these stories, they are like candy for my brain.
Wow; loved the book #2 was a great lead into this 3rd book. The girls in collage is awesome, making friends with the local law authorities. Helping solve cases. The holiday was a great way to end this book and lead into the next book. It will be exciting to finish the whole set of these books.
Another excellent visit with the Witches at Witch college! There was a lot of danger and intrigue.Who is terrorizing Mercys mom?Who killed the boy on the broom? Why is Sorcerer Stone so darn mean? Lisa Cordileone was a terrific narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I swear these books are hilarious and have enough twists in them to give you whiplash. Every time I think I have it figured out BAM I've got whiplash again. Definitely recommend them.
So many misplaced your and you're that I had to knock off a star. Also, less helpful focus to figure things out on mg own in advance until only a few pages before. Just okay.
A Witch Squad was a delightful series. I have always enjoyed the paranormal type books. This is most likely rated as a Young adult novel but I am young at heart. Lol
I love this book!!! I have read1&2 and this one was my favorite!!! So far, I plan on reading all of them. You should too!!! If you like humor, a bit of romance and a lot of crazy mysteries wrapped into one you will love the witch squad!!!
This third book in The Witch Squad series introduces Reign's father into the mix. It also delves into Jax's relationship with her mother. Overall a good read. Well orchestrated and thought out characters!
This is another winner. I just love her characters in this series of books. They are funny and great. I can't wait to read the next book. I highly recommend all her books. Diana Romano
This book was full of surprises. The characters were interesting and very believeable as the charactors they were being. Details were interesting. I enjoyed all the different actions going on. A lot of different people in the book but you never lost track of who they were.
Fun young paranormal read....lots of twists throughout the series. Lots of character development as well. Plenty of angles to maintain interest and find a character to identify with.
I struggled with this one. First 2in the series weren't a problem. In this one I think these young ladies actually acted less mature than in previous. The main character seriously needs anger management lessons. Not sure if I'll continue the series.
Halloween is nearly here, Mercy's mom is staying in town to help Reign reopen the old "bed and bar" as a restaurant with rooms to rent. What could go wrong? Plenty!
The Witch Squad gets involved in another murder, gets in more trouble at school and zMercy’s mom and brother get to live in Aspen Falls. Easy reading. Onto book 4
i really enjoyed this book. not as suspenseful as the first two when came to the murders, but we got more witch squad moments and got to learn more about the school so i call this a win! however, i think i’m officially all witched out.
Mom and long lost brother move to town and start remodeling to change the bar into a cafe. Things keep going wrong and it's either a curse or sabatoge. The witch squad investigate. While everyone seems to be falling in love.
