Individual Readers You can read the book straight through and let each contributor surprise you with his or her thought-provoking insights; use the accompanying free downloadable "Reader's Guide" to find specific stories; or look up stories on topics that are relevant to your situation. After reading each story, you have the option of using the Discussion Guide as part of a personal study: read and meditate on the questions, then journal your responses.
Book Clubs A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a great choice for book clubs. With 51 pieces by 37 authors from across Canada, this anthology has such a diverse group of contributors that everyone in your book club is bound to find something enjoyable. Also, the pieces are short, so you can easily talk about a number of them in one evening. If you're the leader, you can use the "Reader's Guide" to choose the stories that will be particularly appropriate for your group, and then turn to the Discussion Guide for in-depth questions. Each piece has a number of questions, so you can choose the ones you prefer to use.
Small Groups Whichever kind of small group you lead--a discussion group, adult class, men's or women's group, or a support group for people facing issues such as illness or bereavement--you'll find material that will interest and benefit the members of your group. If you're a group leader, you can use the "Reader's Guide" to choose the stories that will be relevant to your group, and then turn to the Discussion Guide for in-depth questions. Many stories and questions include Scripture references.
Speakers If you're a speaker, pastor, or teacher, the stories in A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider can provide wonderful material for a talk, sermon, devotional, or group discussion. Note in particular that the "Reader's Guide" includes an estimated time for reading each piece aloud. A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a delightful arrangement of short stories, poems and other writings that will encourage and speak to each individual reader. The accompanying discussion guide is a fantastic tool that can be easily used by individual readers as well as by groups of any size. I thoroughly enjoyed the honest and upfront non-fiction stories as well as the creative and inspiring fictional stories. This is a book that I would purchase for friends and family alike. There were so many great stories that to pick just one as a favorite would be hard to do. However, I really enjoyed Active Surrender by Brian C. Austin. As an example of the quality writing within this book, this particular story spoke of perseverance and faith. Chrysalis: Life in the Making by Ruth Smith Meyer was so beautifully done and it brought tears to my eyes. This book is a marvelous read and highly recommended. I received A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider and the accompany discussion guide from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book contains 51 Poems, Fiction and Non Fiction stories written by different men and women, and in the back of the book there is a guide to who wrote what. I liked this as it helped me understand each of the stories and poems just a little bit better. A Discussion Guide for readers, book clubs, small groups and speakers came with the book. Each article has several pages of thought provoking questions that will guide you to more in depth study. A Reader’s Guide brochure also accompanied the books. I really liked the Non Fiction stories, they could make you laugh and cry, be happy or sad, and several other emotions. The book reminds me of ‘Chicken Soup’ books and I would recommend it to everyone. I received this book from bookfun in exchange for an honest review.
This is the same review as for the book, combined them together.
